Excellent review! Covers pretty much everything you'd need to know in a really engaging way. Love your honest, down to earth presentation style. I bought the Neewer 80cm slider a few months ago, but the wireless remote control system was so intermittent and unreliable that it was no real use on time pressured shoots where gear just has to work perfectly all of the time. Sent it back and based on this video I'll definitely be buying the GVM 80QD!!

Hi Josh. I’m so pleased you found this helpful. Definitely worth picking one of these up if you will use it. It’s helped me so much. Thank YOU for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Mint review, thanks. A previous review mentioned an issue with the belt causing a slight knock in the footage - caused by a kink in the belt itself where it sits against the motor pulleys during storage for a period of time. If that makes sense. He said he took it off and poured boiling water on it and let it sit for 15 minutes and the kink eased off and the knock didn't happen again. Thought i'd mention it for anyone who's bought or is going to buy the slider.
Sam Holland yes it was really interesting to see how many useful features this had and your examples showed the GVMs multiple features off, making it very impressive.
I have to test that slider, looked so expensive with the carbon fiber railes but its not. Really good Video/review, they should pay you for that Bro Keep on going!

@@SamHolland it is just easier to use ie no app just plug and playing although you can do loads more like panning tilting etc with the Edelkrone if you just want to use a slider then this is perfect
That is interesting. I know what you mean about apps. They can be overly complex sometimes. I suppose the options are there though. Thanks again bro 🙏🏻
I just ordered one of these. I am going to use it for one-person pieces to camera in my bedroom studio, as a second camera, initially, but I think almost any indie film should use a second camera on a motorized slider while shooting the main footage. Remember to also use a clapperboard to help you can sync sound with your auxiliary camera. I think the key to using a budget motorized slider is to use a lightweight camera. I have a Canon HRF 800 camcorder that shoots 1080p and doesn't weigh much more than the battery that powers it, and it was about $250 new. I know that such a light camera will not strain the motor, cause excessive wear of the traction belt or cause excessive noise. I suspect many complaints about budget motorized sliders are from people who demand too much from a piece of kit that costs less than a telephoto lens.
I have this exact same slider. Sooooo good for the price, or any price. Solidly built, sturdy, quiet, lots of features including time-lapse. If you're looking to get a slider, this is the one to get.
Hi Sean! I know the feeling! After a while I got used to it but I find the motorised slider is so much easier. Thanks for watching. Hope you’re well 🙏🏻
Remember to weight down your tripod (and/or lighting support) legs if it is the least tippy. I use sandbags from a pair of wrist weight belts that are never used. Each bag is just 1 pound and three of them will weight down a tripod plenty. Cheap and easy solution.

Fantastic video mate! Like you I've been looking for an affordable motorised slider for my channel for awhile now and stumbled upon your video. Will definitely consider this.. Thanks!
@@SamHolland you're very welcome! I actually just found out it's a little hard to get it here in Singapore and some of the online sellers don't ship here :( I'll be moving to Canada either end of this Yr to early next Yr so I'll try again once I'm there!
Great thoughts and review thanks!! Have you heard of the new if guess- iFootage slider ? You mention both GVM and Neewer, them seem much the same, but which would you prefer as a beginner shooting b-roll and interviews (or one self 🤣)
Just bought this. Building a new channel and this review was super helpful. Can't wait to get this. Question, what tripod head are you using. I looked all over for a large head like that. I'm talking about the one underneath your slider, holding it.
Hi Joe. Sorry for my super late reply. I don't always get notifications! The exact tripod heads are in the description below but I'm using manfrotto for both. Thanks for watching.
Hi Bryant. I posted a “my studio tour” on RUclips where I talk about the backdrop. But it’s basically a paper roll backdrop. Super cool. Thank you for watching. Let me know if you have any other questions 🎥
Hey. Thanks so much 🙏🏻 yes I was but now I use this - ruclips.net/video/JACn-_kGHDs/видео.html Let me know what you think to the comparisons. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Hi. The one I use is in the description. Honestly for any slider you’ll need either a heavy tripod with a larger head and wide legs, OR use two tripods, one either side. You can get support arms now too.
I appreciate the video, but some more examples would have been nice. The important question is how stable/smooth it is, and I couldn't really tell that by your video. Think I'm gonna buy one though.
The creative in me would say “give it a go!” 🤩 but I also have a duty to say be careful not to break any expensive stuff. Make sure it’s all safe 👌🏻 and let me know what happens 🎥
Nice. I notice you are using an SLR Cam. I have a camcorder. Canon Legria G25. The Legria is heavier than an SLR camera. Will the G25 still work in the slide, please.
Thank you Sam I have been looking at this unit and it does seem to be a well-designed pice for the money, how lonf do you think the battery would last on an interview set up?
Hey! 🤩 I haven’t tested the battery properly from full to zero but I’ve used it so much and it’s lasted for a few days for hours at a time. As I mentioned in the video, this is an older version so the batteries may be better now and also you can get other batteries so as long as you have spares you’ll be fine. It really is great 👌🏻 Thanks for watching
This is where those support arms would come in handy. I’ve got another slider video coming up that has a higher payload... you might wanna catch that one. Thanks for watching 🎥🙏🏻
Hey Sam! Thank you for the video! Did you have a chance to work / test 120cm slider? Does it makes sense to have a big one or 80cm is plenty for most of the cases?
Hey Kolya. I didn’t test the 120 but I used to have a manual 120 and I didn’t feel like I lost anything to be honest but it all depends what you need it for. Hope that helps. Thank YOU for watching 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Hi Sam I just purchased the slider on Amazon directly from your link in your RUclips video, but it has arrived and it’s the GT-60D and not the G80 QD that you describe in the video! Mine doesn’t look as fancy as yours and apparently you need to buy a shutter release cable as well to be able to use it, is this correct?
Thanks Luca! 🙏🏻 yeah still in my gear bag BUT I am in the middle of testing another right now so it might be worth staying tuned for that video. Still stand by this one though. Great for the price 💪🏻🎥 thanks for watching
Hey Sam if you just forget the cost factor, what is your opinion about this GVM slider if you have to compare it with the Edelkrone 23 inches or the long slider ? I need to know just about functionality and reliability in comparison. Can you please reply asap ?
Hi. Thanks for your question. While I can’t compare directly (I have never used the edelkrone sliders), I will say that I have never had any problems with my GVM slider and I’ve had it almost 2 years now. It’s really easy to use and it works every time. How often will you be using it? And will you be using it for paid work a lot?
@@SamHolland I do plan to use it for making Food and product videos. Also for assignments. Can't say the amount of work for now because of the Covid Lockdown . I think next year I will be using it very often. Which one is more solid and robust of the two ?
Great video! Thanks. Quick question. Do you know if the moves are pretty accurate when they repeat? Meaning, if you had it loop back and forth shooting a non-moving object like a still life and you laid the footage of different passes on top of other ones, do they line up perfectly?
Hi Kevin. Thank you 🙏🏻 yeh it’s pretty solid and even. I would also have a look at this ruclips.net/video/kFj41zTc1yc/видео.html Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@SamHolland Appreciate it! The Zeapon does look pretty cool. I'd love to have something that does a longer move-- more like 100 cm, but that seems to be hard to find. I'm particularly interested in shooting miniatures with multiple passes, where I can have different lights, fog, etc. during the multiple passes and then blend them in post. Similar to the work being done here: ruclips.net/video/XJUHbdE0Dmg/видео.html Thanks again!
This is exactly what im looking for!! Is it able to be plugged in for continuous power? or do you have to rely on charging the battery? (planning on this being fully stationary

New Sub! I enjoyed this review. Very helpful!
Hey. Great to have you here. I’m
Pleased it helped 🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHollandyou've had this for years. Is it still holding up good for you? Also, do you recommend using 2 tripods to keep more steady shots?
great review! Thanks!
Nailed it mate! Great video 👍👍 makes me want a slider, not got one... yet 🤔
🤩 more gear to add to the never ending list 😂🎥 Thanks for watching bro!
Fantastic video mate! Like you I've been looking for an affordable motorised slider for my channel for awhile now and stumbled upon your video. Will definitely consider this.. Thanks!
Oh btw I've subscribed.. you definitely deserve more subs! :)
Thank you 🙏🏻 let me know what you think if you get one 🤩🎥 thanks for watching
Thanks so much for subscribing. It’s good to have you here 🤩🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland you're very welcome! I actually just found out it's a little hard to get it here in Singapore and some of the online sellers don't ship here :(
I'll be moving to Canada either end of this Yr to early next Yr so I'll try again once I'm there!
That’s a shame. What about the Neewer version? They always do good stuff.
Hi Sam, can it have linear movement from start point to end point ?
Hi. Yes it can
Great thoughts and review thanks!!
Great video. Thank you very much.
Thanks Daniel 🙏🏻🎥
incredible review, subbed
Hey!!! Thank you 🤩🙏🏻🎥 I’m pleased you found it helpful
I love your background! Do you have a video where to talk about your background and tips for getting a similar type of background?
Hi Bryant. I posted a “my studio tour” on RUclips where I talk about the backdrop. But it’s basically a paper roll backdrop. Super cool. Thank you for watching. Let me know if you have any other questions 🎥
What do you think about the ease-out-ease-in during stops on auto loop?
Are you using the Rode Video Mic Pro to record this video? If so, the quality is surprisingly good.
Hey. Thanks so much 🙏🏻 yes I was but now I use this - ruclips.net/video/JACn-_kGHDs/видео.html
Let me know what you think to the comparisons. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Can I use my existing camera tripod, or does this require a specific tripod?
Hi. You can use your tripod as long as it can support the weight of your setup bath slider. Thanks for watching. 🤩🙏🏻🎥 hope this helps
Awesome,,, super help…. Thank You man 🤝💯👍
Thank YOU, Yanis. Glad this helped 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Hi i want to order one but i need a tripod what tripod do you use and what kind do hou recommend maybe one that you use and one on budget
Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind for my next videos 🙏🏻 much valued feedback. Thanks for watching 🎥
Outstanding, thank you!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Do you think it would be a bad idea to mount one of these upside down on a ceiling? Would it be possible to extend the control cable?
Thank you for your reply wishing you every success V
My pleasure 🙏🏻 Thank you for watching and commenting. All the best to you also 🎥
is the setup you have there too heavy for the slider? It looks like it tilted to your right 9:09
This is where those support arms would come in handy.
@@SamHolland thank you for the reply! It definitely helps!
Love your channel 🤘
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting. Always love the interaction on here so if you ever need anything just ask 🤩 thank you! 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland I wish RUclips would support gifs, I would sent a bowing gif 🙏
😂😂😂 what a legend!
Nice video, thanks. Does the slider come to a smooth stop or is is abrupt?
Hi. Thank you. It comes to a smooth stop 👌🏻
Great review, as usual. Love the down to earth style! What’s your opinion on the slider six months later? Still going strong or showing some quirks?
Thanks Luca! 🙏🏻 yeah still in my gear bag BUT I am in the middle of testing another right now so it might be worth staying tuned for that video. Still stand by this one though. Great for the price 💪🏻🎥 thanks for watching
@@SamHolland sam when can we expect this video? I'm in the market for a slider asap but am interested to hear what you have to say about the new one!
It will be in the next 2 weeks! 🤩🎥 but I still stand by the GVM 👌🏻
Which size do you think works the best for interviews? 80 or 120cm?
I suppose you have more options if you go for the longer one but I guess it comes down to space, storage and portability 😉👌🏻 hope that helps bro 🎥
Smashing review! Or maybe I should say smoth!
😂 thank you! 🙏🏻🎥
can you remove the poles and belt replace them with longer ones and have it work the same?
@@SamHolland Thank you for your prompt reply Sam.
Mine is pretty loud how about yours ?
It is a little noisy but I’ve used worse. These things will get better soon 👌🏻
I would also have a look at this ruclips.net/video/kFj41zTc1yc/видео.html
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@SamHolland Appreciate it! The Zeapon does look pretty cool. I'd love to have something that does a longer move-- more like 100 cm, but that seems to be hard to find. I'm particularly interested in shooting miniatures with multiple passes, where I can have different lights, fog, etc. during the multiple passes and then blend them in post. Similar to the work being done here: ruclips.net/video/XJUHbdE0Dmg/видео.html
Thanks again!
That looks and sounds complex but awesome! Way too technical for me to pull off 😜 let me know how it goes. Thanks again Kevin 🙏🏻🎥
17:45 I'm really not liking that shaking on the top, is there a way it can bi fixed? @Sam Holland
Gracias por su video
🙏🏻 De Nada
Can you tilt this on a tripod so it can go up and down almost?
You can. Just double check the weight payload of that function on the version you purchase. 👌🏻🎥
@@SamHolland Im lucky I got a Sony hehe you know those are small
Yeah! That is a bonus of having a Sony! 👌🏻🎥😜
Is there a specific tripod head(s)to attach it to?
Hi. Anything sturdy and strong will do 🙏🏻🎥 thanks for watching
Also does the QR plate have to be like 4.5 in or something for the slider
No. You can just mount it on any plate really. Within reason
Alright thanks
You’re welcome! 🙏🏻
Hey Sam, what's your name for the people that are returning to your channel?
Hi. It’s Sam Holland 🙏🏻
This is exactly what im looking for!! Is it able to be plugged in for continuous power? or do you have to rely on charging the battery? (planning on this being fully stationary
Hi. I believe it needs to be powered by battery. I can’t look right now because I’m away but I think the YC onion slider can be plugged in for continuous use. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥 hope it helps
