I thing the most important aspect in Spielberg's version that is true to the book is that War of The Worlds is a personal invasion story. There's no cut to watching the white house or golden gate bridge get blown up. Its the very personal story of a family trying to survive and that along with the absolutely to this day fucking amazing visual and sound design of the Tripods, it makes it a super unique alien movie.

The Tripods in the BBC on e weren’t too bad - I appreciate seeing a different take on the hardware, as long as the main story and themes remain intact. Unfortunately that’s where the BBC one got a bit spotty.
Why was H.G. Wells " War of the Worlds" so ahead of its time. When it was first written. Looking into the mind of another is allegedly impossible to do, but conceptualizing isn't impossible. We know that all books are created around exactly this. H.G. wanted to take us to a place that we'd never been before, and how to do so on a scale unimaginable. This is where great authors are in a league of their own. Equally film directors have this unique opportunity to bring to life science and fiction in harmony in order to reflect through creative imagery this world that we have never seen before. As a poet, creating a powerful piece of poetry is like being able to distill a whole book into a script of less than a few pages. The depth, the enormity, the gravity that every single word used is kept to the absolute minimum. The History of Mankind, if proliferated with "Wars" and I not just talking about those simple ones like the Battle of Hastings. Throughout the millennia's Earth has been both witness to and also centre staged a number of battles, that have been nothing short of mind blowing and between advanced civilizations far greater than our own even. Even before Oppenheimer created the Atomic Bomb, there were wars which used this and more sophisticated weapons to defeat their enemies. Perhaps this planet should have been called Mars after the God of war as that is all we do?
OK, so I bought this movie off Amazon (Disclaimer: I'm a HUGE WOTW fan, so I'm biased) and I have to say; all things considered, I enjoyed it. I went into watching it, understanding two things: 1) It's a low-budget film, because if it was a big-budget film, I'd have heard about it a long time ago, and ... 2) I don't see a single name on the bill that I recognize, so . . . I had low expectations. Considering #1 and 2 above, it ended being pretty well done. The acting works, and the FX quality runs from "That was OK" to "That looked way better than I'd have thought it would". The entire story is seen through the eyes of three young adults, and it's kind of a 'ground-level' viewpoint. More "Cloverfield" POV than "Godzilla". If you like Sci-fi and like H.G. Wells' story, this is a modern but reasonably faithful adaptation. For $6.99, I'd definitely recommend renting it. Me? I'm glad I bought it.

@@cj16423 There's a lot of action from citizens and military. It's war of the worlds.
Update: Just watched the first season and I gotta say I enjoyed it more the second time around. Idk if you've seen Black Mirror but there's this episode called "MetalHead" and the machines kind of remind me of the ones in the show
Just what we want to see, aliens being fought by a generation of humans who don't even know what gender they are....riveting story.
Cant wait for this to happen irl
Honestly i hope it does good if not then i still watch it
This movie is showing the war of the world's is really coming and already here.
well i can tell this wont beat 2005's version of war of the worlds
Nothing will surpass Spielberg’s version certainly not this shoe-string effort.
Especially since they screwed up the whole plotline from go,in the original the "aliens" were dormant underground for centuries
@@dinogirl1ableNo they weren't, their vehicles were..
Well, THIS might be crap......but I thought Spielbergs version was a hunk of crap, as well.
@rdevans4097 The Spielberg effort was utter [censord]
@@dinogirl1able The 2005 film is not the original and if anything, borrows elements from the 1953 film from George Pal, which at least had the decency to keep the martians landing in cylinders like the novel its based off.
The "machines" do look better than the War Of The Worlds (2005) tripods
Looks alright. Not sure I understand the dislikes ratio. It doesn't look /that/ bad.
Gee, yet another rehashed meh movie.
CGI visuals look weak, teenage characters feel annoying, not set in the original book setting, which actually would have been fairly original and interesting for once (especially for a alien invasion movie), sorry but just getting tired of everything has to be - "current gen". I'll give this a miss.
Asylum-level shennanigans, but good to see the excellent Sam Gittins from Howl.
when are they going to do a period correct version?
Happens more often than you’d think.
The book takes place in the 1890s. Why can't just one movie acknowledge that?
There's a low budget film, but that's about it.
This is a documentary, right?
I’m in! I’m down for anything over damn superheroes. Looks like a good time with popcorn and a giant Coke!
Same because while I love a good superhero movie, I don't want to be bombarded by them, you know? Anyway, I'm looking forward to this movie myself! 😁
They really spent all of the money on the disintegration effect
The book by H.G.Wells is interesting enough - exciting and suspenseful -;can’t they just produce a faithful adaptation set in 19th c., without updating and various fancy touches aimed at inclusivity, etc?
Yeah, I do wish someone would, properly.
for some reason the narrarator sounds like the narrarator for the war of the servers
You’re telling me this didn’t premier on the sci-fi network in 2010?
Which streaming service is this available on please? 🙂
OK so wait a second they made some in the 90s and then in the 2005s and 2023 how much are they making
Great Movie! This Movie is a combination of the 1953 and 2005 War of the Worlds Movies. The 2005 Version of the Movie did not explain clearly how the aliens were defeated whereas the 1953 version clearly explained how the aliens were defeated. This Movie did a very good job in how the aliens were defeated. I will need to check out the other War of the Worlds versions.
I mean the 2005 did explain how the aliens where defeated
lol
What is this a GenZ version? I was waiting for them to break out into a dance to, This is my fight song.
If people thinks it looks like crap, then don't watch it. Those of us who do want to watch it will do so and not care what others think.
