You ever read the actual original book, in which there are hardly any aliens for good chunks of the story?
And that is what creates tension. Mystery creates tension. That is also what worked in Jurassic Park that you don't see the dinosaurs much...at first. It's the Goldilocks principle: not too little, not too much, just the right - or appropriate - amount.

As a War of the worlds series it fails
As a alien invasion series its absolutely brilliant and a must watch
With some deep holes. The alien race survives in world one but not world 2, time never altered in world one, only world 2, if they had succeeded in eliminating the aliens world one would be quite different going back in time. Multipole universes, multiple worlds. Lots of holes

Ending with aliens just dying because they got sick just doesn't do it for me. Would love to see more and maybe capture what goes on inside those pods as I felt that was a missed opportunity not having little bits like that in the film

This is a good show unless you're just big on special effects. The storylines are good and the acting too. It's suspenseful and has a surprising twist.

The show is pretty good. Very atmospheric. Just one criticism. The pacing is VERY slow. And I'm one who hates the Michael Bey action-from-the-opening-credits-to-the-end style. But this show moves SLOOOOW.

... I'm a sci- fi fan, but this series is really testing my patience. Every episode I'm hoping it gets better. But nah, same slow pace from the first episode until the last one in season one. I'm contemplating just giving up on watching season two. I get a feeling it will be just as slow. Like they're buying time and stretching it as long as they can.

And I for one hope it's better than the war of the worlds series that was shown on the BBC. That one absolutely sucked.

This is a French 'Canal+' production with some Fox subsidiary or something. First ep I just watched was absolute great. Hard to find on streaming sites but finally found it. Glad Fox is going to carry it, so I can maybe watch the rest of the eps in better HD lol not those crappy streaming sites

I hate tension, so I googled the aliens and the storyline. No more tension. I just saved many hours of my life so I can go and drink beer.

I have read a-lot of comments that the original war of the worlds was produced by tom cruise. That is incorrect. It has been replicated many times since the original cinematic film released in 1953.
The original was not tom cruise. The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells, written between 1895 and 1897, first serialised in 1897 by Pearson's Magazine in the UK and by Cosmopolitan magazine in the US. The novel's first appearance in hardcover was in 1898 from publisher William Heinemann of London.
This show is absolute proof you don't need a big Spielbergian budget and jaw-dropping special effects to create riveting sci-fi. I just completed season 1 of this, and I simply can't went to dive into season 2. Arguably it is a very distant adaptation from the source material, and it could easily have been given a different and original title in order to make it its own thing, but none of this is bad. The show, in my opinion, is compelling and not to be missed.

When you finally see the aliens, they are the least scary things imaginable. Rectangular box with for robotic legs which are noisy and slow.

I don't have any problem with robotic dogs or the lack of tripods my problem is the emotions the character have, depression and sadness. Not fear, not angry, not even anxiety.

This version of War of the Worlds, is from SBS Australia, and is in 10 episodes as far as I can find. Viewable online if you are in Australia, otherwise will have to wait to see if offered to the rest of the world.
I came across this by accident while looking for another of the same name. Pleased to say I stayed and enjoyed it.
I'm pretty sure that between the mass fires, mass shootings, volatile politics and spreading Corinavirus, Earth would be marked up as uninhabitable and quarantined from all alien life for being too hostile.

Finally a good translation of the Jeff Wayne's musical version. The tripods look a lot more like those on the cover then those in the Stephen Spielberg version. Also the story is more in that style. Absolutely brilliant.
There weren't any 'tri-pods' (fighting machines), just robot dogs.

Pulsars are a naturally occurring phenomenon that produce that kind of signal. The sound is obviously inspired by the discovery of them in the 70s dubbed LGM-1 for “little green men” in hopes it might be alien life. But it was just rotating stars now called Pulsars

Considering what happened to the aliens in all iterations of H. G. Wells classic story, would make this possible premise ironic, if not nonsensical.

When I first saw the “aliens”, this series very much reminded me of a spiritual spin off of the Black Mirror episode called Metalhead. Which I loved.
This series has been a sleeper hit for me, didn’t know what to expect but I really liked it overall

yeah, "war of the worlds" is really a misnomer in this show. very soon it becomes obvious that what they are dealing with aren't aliens. like, somewhere in the middle of the first episode. the only thing similar to war of the worlds is the initial attack, after which it becomes, literally, story about human stupidity. it's actually fun, cause everything they do is basically digging them deeper and deeper, and at some point you realize, we don't need aliens nor god's intervention, we will be the end of ourselves

A beautiful soap opera about the end of humanity, It reminds me of Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia in ways. For myself the slowness prolongs the anxiety brought by the Re-imagining of the methods the invaders use which hit me as simple, undramatic and terrifying.
It's a series not a movie so your expectations are not realistic. Hope you're kidding about "undramatic." This show has me at the edge of my seat. The writing and acting are top-notch.
I think it would have helped if a lot more people knew that cars were Faraday cages. Including the people in the writers' room.
Why is it in films or series like this end of the world scenario the one person who understands what's going on and maybe save civilization hasn't got time cause his or her son or daughter is 5 thousand miles away and maybe still alive even though everybody else is 100% dead. And they find them and ride off into the sunset together as the world falls apart..

Yes it is most probably super advanced human predessors from 100.000 bc flew to Ross 128 than turned around after they heard pop music played to them. As they are Kpop fans, they deceide to androidtise some Boston Dynamics Spot robots with organic stuff and kill off the humans ^^.

It's very good. I'm at episode 6 and so far have been riveted. Great tension and suspense. Very well shot. Doesn't dumb down the science. An usual assortment of characters. Great entertainment. I'm surprised this hasn't been promoted more tbh.

Was really hanging out for this and to be honest i was expecting a modern take on the H.G.Wells novel. Curious why it's called _war of the worlds_ , they could have titled it Boston Dynamics Vs. Europe and made more sense. I'm fine with drama but this is seriously missing something, i honestly do not care about any of the characters _at all._ Right now i'm 3 episodes in, someone needs to convince me it gets better because i pretty much done with it tbh.

Nothing actually happens and believe you me Im open to story pacing etc. but this is awful.. and you are right, I simply dont care about any of the charachters .... poorly written, such a pity.... big yawnfest.

On a side note, recently enjoyed a series called 'Black Summer' (netflix), similarly, while you're unable to see grand character arcs and get closely attached to individuals (due to how the series is structured), they compensate this with relentless pacing and as each of their situations unfolds, how they respond is demonstrated _(dare i say)_ as relatable? realistic? and in that way, i feel somehow more involved in the action. Not saying it's perfect. - That's just my 2 cents worth. and i'm personally sure to be ready and waiting for the following season. Stay well folks, Peace.

Absolutely LOVE War of the Worlds .... I mean the book, and the tv series from the 80's, NOT this atrocity!! This is perhaps the most boring alien invasion ever put to screen and after forcing myself to watch the entire first episode I couldn't face watching another.
