Synopsis: Set-in present-day Europe, War of the Worlds is a multi-faceted series, based on the story by H.G. Wells. When astronomers detect a transmission from another galaxy, it is definitive proof of intelligent extra-terrestrial life. The world’s population waits for further contact with baited breath. They do not have to wait long. Within days, mankind is all but wiped out; just pockets of humanity are left in an eerily deserted world.
As alien ships appear in the sky, the survivors ask a burning question - who are these attackers and why are they hell-bent on our destruction? This is a story of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances - but they are more than just victims in a brutal war. For, as we will come to realize, the aliens’ savage attack on earth is not arbitrary: its seeds are being sown before our very eyes.

Honestly, the most negative thing I can say about this is that I can't see why they bothered to call it War of the Worlds. It was a decent series in it's own right so I don't know why they called it that.
I agree. I feel like it could've stood on its' own with its' own title rather than need to link into the whole War of the Worlds franchise.

season 3 being filmed around my home town of Bristol england
Really liked the first season, watching season 2 now and the story revolving so much around Emily ruins it. She’s not a great character and others don’t use logic when it comes to her. Every other character is more interesting than Emily and Sasha.
Yeah! Emily and Sacha have a strong psychic link, but Bill is the one to tell her she's pregnant??? Then Sacha kills Emily's Mum and she seems fine with it. Incredible!

I’ve watched the first two episodes of season 2 and it’s not really improved much. The 6 month time jump seems to be an attempt to hurry the story along.

Oh god why did I watch season 1, I see 1% sci-fi 99% drama, and to my amazement there is another series THE WAR OF THE WORLDS(BBC) which is more sci-fi.
Why would they associate themselves with the War of the Worlds franchise when they're going in a completely different direction?

Because of the title, I was expecting another take on the classic "War of the Worlds" but having watched Season 1 twice, why on earth they called it "War of the Worlds" is beyond us... It's good enough to take its own title, so many questions to be answered, and I don't know why but the fact it's really dark and bland and the fact it's more realistic than most end of the world TV series/movies it really has it going for it!

I liked the first season, but when the aliens took a human form in season 2 I'll kinda lost interest (that part was disappointing), just finished S02E03 tho, maybe it gets better.

Thought the whole thing was very good - surprised me. Probably the best of all of this type of war of worlds. The original was epic but the follow ups crap. This was the best 🎬

No. But also yes. Humans got tech and left to start a space colony or whatever. Got sick and came back to fix their genetic screw up and say hell with it, space and other planets suck and what's left of us wants to stay here now. Yawn.
Just finished the first season and the last two episodes ruined the season for me. Started off really well but they ruined the characters that much I'm not even sure about watching the second season
Emily and sacha's characters have got to be the two worst main characters ever.
I agree, its simply they're just unlikeable characters. Sacha is quite literally a psychopath and Emily just doesn't do anything, she just exists between scenes as a means of perspective for showing certain plot points. In the last two episodes literally all she does is slowly move around between sets following robo dogs. Going into this assuming it'd be a standalone season I was expecting to get answers as the episodes went on but in the end you're left with very little. Given that appears to be there MO I expect more of the same in the 2nd season, more questions and no answers.

End of season 2 was SPECTACULAR. No, there will NOT be season 3, for obvious reasons seen on the last episode. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the most realistic and adult series about an alien invasion I have ever seen.

I am on episode 2 of season 2, how did you deal with the jump between season 1 and 2? It left on such a good cliff hanger and then just dumps us 6 months later!

Just watched S2E01 and my biggest question is: why do the "aliens" speak perfect English?

I'm on S2e7 now so yeah, it all makes sense now.
Although it has no right to take the name from H G's amazing story, i really enjoyed the first season of this. Season 2 is good too 2 episodes in but I am so worried it is a slow burn version of the story my nephew wrote when he was at primary school about people from the future coming back to fight us because of what we did to the ozone layer. Please let me know if this is the way the story pans out so I can stop watching, because if it is It'd be the equivalent of taking 2 years to read a penguin book written by Greta Thunberg.

No, that was different and based on the original story .i think this one is the reboot of the 80s series
there were 2, the one you are referring to which apparently was not good at all and a 2nd show (this one) that is set in current times which is actually pretty good
The way they killed off ash is stupid I had high hopes but after that scene it is just a meh now like ash always had his gun but the one time he don't that was his result
This show is generally OK but they are 6 months in and still haven't bothered to visit an outward bound shop for decent clothing and footwear (preferably not high visibility). Nor have they secured decent weapons, but they do seem to be equipped with those infinite bullet magazines. I hate it when the kid is killing the guy and not even the other guy with him ever thinks to call out for help.
The first season was great though not for everyone. The second was super confusing and kind of underwhelming. What a shame.
100% disagree. Season 2 was spectacular and very very clever and plot-twisting.

This is a disregard of the theme of evolution as in the book, the Martians look exactly alien from ours despite being sapient because the environment on Mars is much more different than Earth, and in this show, the aliens look nothing alien to us, they were just hairless men. How can anyone like that show that disregarded Well's vision!?

I was a War of the Worlds superfan. Loved all the versions. This one the least, but it has great actors if a slightly weak and muddled storyline. I'm especially over the petulant teenagers thing. I'll watch it. But I am suddenly less interested now that the Pentagon has more or less confirmed that there's some stuff up there, we don't have a clue what it is, or how it works and the unsaid implication- we have literally no defense against it if it becomes hostile. That's no conspiracy theory. I'm seriously missing the tin-hat days.
It also might just be some millionaire's experimental toy that he's never bothered to go public with.
As a Navy veteran I can vouch for how government agencies HATE interacting with each other and don't tell each other jack diddle about what they're doing. It's just 'experimental' avionics technology. We can create aircraft that moves in exotic fashions but people would never survive in them. Hook up some programming or remote control it and you have these unexplained military reported UFO sightings.
I was listening to some podcast that said the government made a really smart choice when confirming there is stuff up there because they knew that if they some what confirmed it a lot of people would become uninterested and stop trying to figure out and see if the government is covering up stuff. So a lot of people basically did what the government wanted them to

Well not immediately, but the point is, it came out. And that would have been so much easier to cover up than everything else they are accused of hiding.

You are right, it is a good serious, I watched alot of it, but it isn't HG Wells war of the worlds book, not even close.
I wish the script would stop having the characters blandly say “I don’t know.” Seriously annoying lack of imagination and depth in the writing nor direction departments of this series. For heaven’s sake, they have one of the coolest subjects to explore … and all these dumb asses have people say is plead ignorance.
I couldn't get passed S02E04, then the series started to suck... so stopped watching. I think it was due to the aliens turning up in a human form that put the nail in the coffin.

First 2-3 episodes of season 1 suggested something interesting, possible to believe and non-trivial. Then it turned into a regular ridleyscott-ish ethereal mumbo-jumbo full of illogical and no-escape situations. Season 2 episode 1 retains this "high" level. Complete waste of time.
