This is amazing! If I may be so bold, one suggestion. It would be really atmospheric if after the alien murder horn sounds, the birds and ambient animal noises go silent. Like even the wildlife is like "aww hell no" and hides. I know this is a work in progress so maybe you already thought of that. Anyways this looks incredible.
Yes, this and absolute silence when it’s snowing. Imagine it goes from just the gentle patter of snowfall to insanely loud alien horn or military movement
it'd be sick if, before the horn sounds or the laser hits, the plants and trees in the area or in the targeted attack area would bend, sucked inwards towards the tripod as if it was creating a vacuum before releasing the horn or the attack. That way you have an indicator as to when an attack is coming, it helps sell the power of the tripod even more, and it helps the world feel more dynamic. Combined with the birds flying away it would be super atmospheric
I love how many different ways the military tries to attack the tripods. These random events are honestly one of my favorite features at the moment, I feel like it’s going to add so much uniqueness to each run as well as being visually stunning/sounding badass. This game just keeps looking better.
that's possibly one of the most terrifying things about the concept, that the player is right in the middle of the military throwing everything it has against the tripods, but nothing has any effect. the aircraft and artillery effects are incredibly well done. at 10:18 the sound of the jet hauling ass over the area was appropriately loud and sudden
@@wysoft I agree, that part of the film always hit me the hardest. Seeing that everything the military was throwing at the Tripods had no effect whatsoever. Glad it’s being faithfully included in game, I’m assuming that nuke probably didn’t even take out the Tripods in it’s blast radius… truly a terrifying alien force.
It's been, what, 18 years? And the sound of those horns, and those duster guns spooling up STILL gives me visceral, unconscious fear deep down in the guts. You've captured the atmosphere really well, I think you're really onto something here, keep it going!
Its primal fear. You just know those things mean instent death if your lucky. If they harvest you its a horrible agonysing death getting blended up & conpressed then sprayed out into the atmosphere.

I pray this game is never abandoned, and never rushed. Yeah we’re as excited as can freakin be, but it’s worth the wait. This game reminds me of Subnautica weirdly enough, simply because of the high appeal it has before it’s even been released, early access or not. I hope this dev team won’t be afraid to allow deviations from the original movie/lore and truly make it their own game. I’m not here ‘just’ because it resembles the movie. I’m here because this looks like an incredible game with a crazy fun concept of survival, not just against the world, but against an enemy killer. I’m here because this looks like it’ll someday be an experience unlike any other, one worth waiting and paying for. I hope they get plenty of financial support for something like this. I can imagine something like this would get TONS of attention from televised ads. Anyways, I’m very excited for this piece of art to someday be released.
¿Wthl with the guy who confused the soundtrack with the sound effects? hahaha, getting back to the topic... THE SOUNDS BRO!!!, In this game they are super well done, practically when you play and hear those tripod trumpets in the middle of the night it's as if You would have seen the movie the first time friend, those fighters flying over with their characteristic jet engines and attacking the tripods give you a very hopeful and terrifying war atmosphere, !!I want to play it now omfg!!!
If 7 year old me saw this game I would have lost my marbles, it's the game we've all been waiting for and it looks stunning, thank you Raf for making my childhood dreams come true.
You can feel every drop of love deposited in this project. Lots of encouragement with the development and thank you very much for making the many fans of this War of the Worlds adaptation happy!
Stuff like War of the Worlds never hit me hard until I read the Three Body Problem series. Not only is hostile alien contact possible, it’s a near certainty.
I grew up not really too concerned about the war of the worlds, at least until I had a random nightmare one night lmao I truly didn't know how spooked I was until many years later.
*The nuclear scene was truly breathtaking, and I'm thrilled by the improvements you've made. If you can capture the same level of grandeur and intensity in the explosions, I would absolutely love it. Your enhancements have again been fantastic!*
This game is really going to be crazy, each time the atmosphere is very impressive knowing that at the beginning it didn't start with much, it's going to be one of the best independent games. I'm so happy that War of the Worlds 2005 is getting finally the recognition it deserves, this movie is just an awesome masterpiece. I would like to see Spielberg see all these unexpected fans of his work which was once misunderstood... AWESOME JOB.
Couldn't agree more, the Spielberg movie had so many unforgettably iconic scenes and Raf has done such a beautiful job capturing them. I showed this game to my mates and we're 100% getting on it when it comes out
It’ll never be released. They haven’t even asked for permission from the copyright holder to use the WotW franchise or material. If they try to release, they’ll get sued to high heaven. Looks like a patreon / pump and dump scam to me. Once they get enough money from their viewers, they’ll disappear 😔
War of the worlds from 2005. Literally my favorite movie of my childhood. The feeling you get seeing and hearing those tripods was something truly amazing. Seeing you guys replicate this is so amazing I can't even put it into words... I look forward to seeing more on this!!!
I imagine if some big team can create a game based on a book, early 20th century, weapons and aestetics of this times, no crappy shields on tripods and armour only. That could be brutal. The movie itself is mediocore, especially the idea of alien giant machines that were hidden not so deep into the ground, and was not uncovered.
Pluses: -Destruction. It really adds to tension and fear, if your hideout can be just destroyed and wooden toilet stops being indestructible fotress -All the graphical and atmospheric improvements -Random events, amry strikes etc -Even improved tripod mode -Those ceepy sounds during probing Minuses: -Lack of emotions in NPC line, even when they witnessed human horrors beyond pineapple-strawberry pizza and tripod is right next to them, they are calm af and talking like they are describing what they will be eating for lunch. -The flashlight. I think that using it should make you detectable faaaar easier to make you even afraid to use it when tripods are nearby. This flashlight is extremely bright, to the point where it can illuminate tripod few dozen metres away at least, its more like spotlight. Turning it on in the middle of darkness or even house would be like shouting 'Hey im there yarr out-of-terran bloody rapscallions!" meanwhile guy is directly flashing it at tripod and its not even reacting. It also betrayes your positions for other humans. -Npcs are like dolls that agree for anything you do, whatever its rummaging through all their belongings like in good ole rpg or standing right in front of approaching tripod without even trying to run away
Yeah the npc interactions felt very inhuman. The first npc shown told the player to get out then immediately went to calm small talk about the alien invasion.
When something that unnatural and destructive is in the environment there would be no insect or bird sounds, all the wildlife would instantly vacate. Overall this looks fantastic !!
good point for large animals like birds but i feel like insects would be fine. i dont think a grasshopper will understand what is happening let alone know where the threats are haha. plus the tripods are so fast im sure birds would still be surprised by them time to time
@@bbaron1When predators enter an environment even the insects stop chirping, happens when any large predator comes around and would certainly happen in this situation. Its like a chain reaction, even if the animal or insect doesn’t notice the predator it will notice other creatures going silent and in turn will stop making sound or completely vacate the area just incase, doesn’t matter whether the animal is a threat to insects or not, you’re better safe than sorry in the wild.
I hope that when this game will be released its gonna get the attention that it deserves. I'm really optimistic that this game could be the next subnautica where you have a big open world, a great narrative and atmosphere, some cool scripted scene and a constant threat beyond everything.
@@justins.6569that is perfectly fine. there is no need to rush it. this looks good enough for an early access title now, but at the same time releasing to early access could hurt the games chances of becoming a major key player to the gaming industry. if they wait yeah thats alot of people that they risk losing interest, but at the same time those who stay and get a much better and more finished/polished product are likely to spread word of the game and many MANY more people are likely to hope on board with it. its like a catch 22 really. do they release to early access sooner and risk a potentially buggy unpolished image of their game to be in everyones mind? or do they stay the course and risk losing only a few dozen players but keep a more loyal and dedicated fanbase? either way the game looks amazing and the full version is going to be damn near perfect if THIS is what they have now.
imagine if the random nuke event could happen anywhere on the map not just the out-of-bounds section.. lol having to restart your game because you confused the warning sirens for tripods approaching town for the 5th time only to be vaporized by your own military xD
Not only that yet if that scene was within realistic circumstances: you would be blinded-even if you were not looking in the direction of the explosion due to the immense instantaneous change in light from a night-time detonation. Was also joking about if the nuke detonated over your town lol-what a quick way to restart a long game. 4 days survived and you gotta restart because the detonation was ontop of you@@FranciumBoron
Just showed this to my mom who has been a _huge_ WotW fan for decades and she had the biggest grin on her face and outright cheered when I showed her she could play as the tripod lol. You've got fans of all ages ready and waiting!
I think it's ridiculous that we have the ability to play as the aggressors. That is completely at odds with not only the original H.G. Wells novel but also both the movie adaptations (1950s and 2000s) and the radio program done by Orson Wells.
I'm not usually one that likes to watch games develop, but this project has been a joy so far to watch. It has changed so much since I first discovered it. I'm excited to see the end product! Good work!
0:55 - 2:10 - It immediately reminded me of the first scene from the movie... Even today I still get chills!!! That horn and sound of lasers heating up...
as soon as I saw that random bright light I was like, "there is no way that he added a nuke to this.". *shows nuke* "HOLY SH*T HE DID ADD A NUKE"... this game is absolutely amazing. keep up the amazing work!!!!
So cool! This movie was EXTREMELY impressionable on me as a kid. I'm 26 now and sometimes still have alien invasion nightmares where I'm hiding from these things. You really managed to capture that feeling so well. I also noticed you're planning for it to work in VR, which should be extra fun :).
LOl! I am an old man and use to have nightmares about Godzilla trying to fry me. Worse yet, I was the one responsible for his attacks- he was sent to kill me. I can still see myself hiding in a network of storm drains- and Godzilla's breath pouring in from an open manhole cover- he knows I am there! I felt awful because I knew millions were dying and if I just gave myself up, he would return to the sea. My nightmare was twice as bad then. Existential threat, followed by extreme guilt, lol. I feel with you all, but different monsters for different generations I guess. I had this recurring nightmare into my mid 20's!
@@ZombieGrandpa as we speak, I had a dream about these things last night 😂, only this time I was at an amusement park as they began invading earth. I once lucid dreamed that a probe was looking for me and I was hiding. It found me and I woke up. Actually thought it was real for a second. I’m 22 and I first saw this movie when I was 10… honestly feel like there’s something wrong with me 😂
Lol, nothing wrong with you. Tell me, are you a younger sibling? I honestly think the meaning behind my dream was about how my Goliath of a brother would beat me up. Nobody in the family seemed to be able to stop him.. He was sneaky about it and then would deny everything. I use to hide from him until mom came home. My dreams were rarely "cold sweat, wake up in the middle of the night," dreams and towards the end, I honestly knew they were a dream- and would make my own personal Godzilla movie out of it. I have some good news though, the dreams ended when I turned 25. So you are less than three years out. Maturity dismisses many things from childhood at 25. Usually just the bad ones. I still love Kaiju films. There is nothing like some of the old ones. Some of them suck- when they started making them for kids- blech. But before that, the craft that went into the camera angles, the sets, the poor ba$tard in that sweaty suit, lol. In the end, there is something endearing about a guy stomping around on a miniature set in a rubber suit. I can't tell you how many times I played Godzilla with my hotwheels. None of them would roll right because I kept stomping on them. I would even say, in a Japanese accent, "Oh no! It's GODZILLA!" before I stomped them. Wish the grandkids were closer- would love to play Godzilla and chase them around. Be that as it may, 25 is true adulthood and your dreams should stop then. Mine did. Go watch the original RODAN! This is a movie NOT made for kids! Very adult themes and frankly some frightening monsters. Try to watch it on a big screen. It was the first color Kaiju film from Toho and so they went all out. Amazing work with special effects- seriously. (Well some of them anyway.) And the "bug puppets" still creep me out- you will see what I mean. Finally, you need to watch the 1953 War of the Worlds. It is slow to start, but once the Martians fire the first shot- things move quick! In 1953 and on low definition TV, you can't see the wires, lol. So just ignore them. Still, it has some AMAZING special effects- for 1953!!! You would not be surprised to see them in a modern movie- it's that good. PS- Make sure and watch "Mars Attacks!" by Tim Burton. It's a spoof of just about every B movie from the 50's and 60's, lol.
You created something my dad would of loved to see as he brought me to the theater to watch the 2005 film when I was young, this was his favorite alien movie as it became my favorite as well. If he were still alive you definitely brought a smile on his face without a doubt. ❤
Very much looking forward to the final product. Everyone in the comments has been offering you folks suggestions on how to make the game better by adding this or that. As for me I have only one piece of advice: Bad voice actors are better than no voice actors. Use your own team to voice the characters if you must rather than using A.I. or Text To Speech to do the job. I was totally immersed until one of the characters started talking. It was obvious that I was listening to a machine with no life. A game like this will be all about the human struggle to survive in the face of overwhelming odds. We need to hear it, feel it from the in game characters if we're to believe it. Even if the voice acting is not the best, better that then the cold voice of a machine.
Hear hear. I didn't expect video games to go this route so quickly, but I've played two AAA games this year that clearly used AI voice acting, and it painfully showed. There is a complete loss of inflection, tone or just.... acting.
Early game development typically uses lower quality models/voice acting/textures to fill in gaps while more important mechanics and gameplay are worked on, this voice acting more than likely isn’t going to be in the final project? i could be wrong, idk
I'm loving everything about this update. I love the progress on the realism and color grading, the volumetric effects look great, the new snow weather looks incredible, and the flashing lights in the sky are haunting. I love how it illuminates the landscape and makes it feel like the war is happening all around you. The apache air attacks are really great. I love how high they are and how the combined sound of their rotors is almost overwhelming; it feels incredibly realistic. Seeing a huge squadron overhead trying to fight the tripods as the sky churns and flashes behind them is going to be an incredible sight in the game. I also love the addition of the nuke as a random event. I still think the tripods ought to be able to move a little faster, adding to the terror if you're spotted, but I understand if that might break the balance of the game. I just think with how slow they move, they can seem a little meandering and aimless as opposed to the cold and calculating aliens herding refugees into kill zones that we see in the film. These things brought humanity to its knees in a couple days, so they've gotta be capable of covering a ton of ground fast. Also, you gotta make more use of that music! Especially during the montage of the custom tripod at the end, that is a beautiful track that sounds like it's right out of the film. We need to really have some haunting ambient music like that playing; it feels like there's almost no music during gameplay except during specific moments of tension. Imagine that track at the end playing as you sneak from house to house in the dead of night as the sky flashes. It would be incredible. In my ideal version there ought to be some kind of music playing at almost every moment to add to the tension and mystery. You've got an amazing composer, so show off the work! Aside from that, all we need now is a new weather effect called "raining clothes and dust" and it'll be perfect.
The rising animation is getting better audio wise! You hear the tripod transition from a high pitched to whirring to a bassy low pitched growl as it manifests more energy, it's very intimidating.
18:36 there’s something deeply disturbing about that death sequence. A flash of light in the retinas, barely long enough to gasp as you register that your life is over, and that’s it. Burned to ashes. Nicely done 👏🏻
This is my first time seeing this game, and it looks absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere of a total war zone where no place is safe is amazing, and the aliens and sound design trigger my fear of giant things so hard. This is a masterpiece which truly shows how scary one of the original alien invasion stories really was.
@@stadtjer689I disagree, Iv seen more repetition in mainstream games.. My only critisism would be that more work needs putting into the npc's, their reactions turn a scary scene into a comically bland one because they lack any kind of normal emotions in these terrifying situations
@@stadtjer689 Repetitive doesn’t always mean bad, but I see what you mean. It is pre-alpha so still very early in development and I am sure there will be plenty more to come.
Some advice for the nuke. Can you make the shockwave wait longer based on nuke distance using realistic distance calculations or your best approximations of them? For example in the scene provided, i feel like the event would be silent with no shockwave for much longer, giving the player a chance to see the actual mushroom cloud in full as the bright light dies out, and then after a while of this the shockwave should hit them - maybe a good 10-20 seconds after the shockwave timing in this video. This is not only a more realistic representation of shockwave travel speed across dozens of miles, but also a more cinematically impactful scene because it gives the player time to feel anticipation before the payoff of the shockwave's arrival. For example the force of the explosion is carried in the visible pressure wave above the nuke cloud in the sky, so the shockwave should strike after that pressure wave has expanded towards the player, not before.
I think the designers want a big mushroom cloud. In which case make it a thermobaric weapon. Then you can land it impressively close without having to give physics the day off.
Yeah I made a similar post. If you're close enough that you hear the explosion almost right away then you are dead - and the game is over. I think delay would build suspense even though short attention spanned players might start complaining.
@@anonydun82fgoog35 The game can meet us halfway. If you have a thermobaric mushroom cloud, which apparently is orangier and more 'Michael Bey' than an actual nuke. Then have nearby people calling it a 'nuke' anyway, which I think the majority of people will. Then have bystanders panicking about radiation, which may trigger panick on the part of the player. It could be a very scary red herring, and maybe a soldier or doctor or someone in the know can later reveal dialogue that it wasnt a nuke, and if it was we wouldn't be having this conversation.
@@anonydun82fgoog35 That doesn't mean much. The flash should have resulted in instant blindness because of the facing of the character. But it didn't. This could either mean: 1. It was not a nuke. 2. The devs got nukes wrong. Humans don't perceive the double flash, either we perceive a prolonged bright and hot whiteness, or are instantly blinded.
The effect of the flashes in the sky, and the volumetric tripod spotlights, and nighttime in general looks AMAZING! The death effect is pretty close to what I hoped, too.. a flash of white light and you're gone. The tripod controller also looks phenomenal (at least, the camera part). And the music! WOW! Keep up the incredible work! It gets so much better every update, it's insane! Now for the things I hope are improved (and likely will.. work-in-progress and all) - Daytime is overblown inside and outside, but I'm taking it as a known issue since you spent 90% of the video in the nighttime. One part looks pretty darn good (19:04) but then looks bad again soon after (19:08) - Military attacks, wish the explosion effects were a little less showy? Faster, maybe conform to the shield. Also wish the jet sounds weren't so sudden (as in, only the ripping roar and no distant rumble) - Wish the tripod HUD felt more alien and incomprehensible, with gauges that don't look like or act like what we'd expect, and flashing status monitoring panels, that sort of thing. As a player, I would really like the sense of "wow, I'm piloting an alien tripod", and figuring out what all the meters do over time while playing would be part of the fun (and maybe the challenge) of tripod play. You can always include a list of controls in the menu, which people usually go to when they get stuck anyway, but it would introduce a more satisfying learning curve to the tripods.. and really let your mind go wild! - In the same vein as the above I wonder if the HUD could show more "technical" stuff.. the heat ray's energy levels, the heat ray cooldown, nutrient level & nutrient stockpile, et cetera. Maybe also a sort of interaction with friendly tripods.. for example, heads-up displays of alerts and alien language when they blare their horns for "assaulting prey", "assistance needed", "prey detected" and that sort of thing. You're invading this planet together after all!
with multiplayer it will be as unforgiving as DayZ standalone, just the NPC is a massive man eating tripod you cannot kill.... with a fetish for pyrotechnics.
This looks awesome. You even got the nuke right by having the light hit before the sound and shockwave. One problem if I may nitpick, is it's too close, very dangerously so. The nuclear "rule of thumb" 👍 when you stick your thumb out, if it's bigger than the mushroom cloud, you're a safe distance away, if the cloud is bigger than your thumb, you need to get away, really fast. It'd be a shame to work so hard to survive an alien invasion only to die of radiation sickness.
This project is so awesome you're even adding things that should have been in the movie. Imagine a scene where the family are just moving through countryside at night, or staying with some locals, and suddenly they see a nuke going off in the distance? Should have been in the movie, it would really have driven home just how desperate and F'd humanity was.
Nah that shouldn't have been in the movie. It's loosely based off H.G Wells book, which in the book, takes place in a time before motorized vehicles lol. Nukes would be going a bit too far.
@@Wolcott why?other than possibly being outright killed by the shockwave youre definitely not staying stock still when it hits. its not even that shaky either.
@@zlotywest860 maybe but that's desperation for you. The US military and government would be DESPERATE for any way to bring them down. Remember: WW3 would start over less...an invasion of Chinese forces even a fraction of the size of the tripod "army".
I just want to tell you that you have single-handedly ignited nightmares of running from tripods while they hunt me down. I've never been happier to be scared out of my mind and I cannot wait for this to be playable publically. You've done such fantastic work dude ♥
Even after this many years that tripod sound still brings a thrill rush of chills! This is my childhood! I loved the movie so much I wore out the DVD as a kid. That and Top Gun. I'm so glad this project is slowly coming together. Each time I see it, it gets better and better. I'm so pumped to play it. I would love to volunteer to do any voice lines you may need!
The sound design is amazingly terrifying. The sequences of running through the dark to the sound of rays, explosions, and of course the foot steps of the tripod, really made me feel that tingling sensation in my back that screams "run". The lighting is fantastic as well, or in some cases the lack of it, being able to hear a giant fighting machine, and yet not being able to see it in the dark makes everything so much more terrifying. I like that it seems you will also be implementing an interaction system with NPCs, that acknowledges they are all just scared desperate survivors same as the PC, though i do think they need to be a bit more ironed out.
I hope they reach out to some of the people who did the voice acting in Greylock. There's a lot of independent talent in analog horror and that expertise would translate so nicely into this game
@@w1ndgeneral226It would be even funnier if stupid Rachel starts screaming like in the movie and the tripod suddenly comes to your house and catches you while your friend is dying of laughter on the other side of the street 😂😂😂.
During the initial start-up of the Tripod, I had an immediate flight response, just as your character (you) started running. I felt like I couldn't get far enough. I can't begin to describe the amount that I want this game! Can't wait to see the next updates.
One thing I would suggest is especially when the airstrikes hit, have a great thump of an explosion sound delayed by speed of sound to create an absolutely epic soundscape of the strike, seeing an explosion hit a walker and then hearing the sound a second later would be incredible
They do have this effect for alien weapons. If you are far away, you see the flash, then the sound a bit later based on how far away you are. Your point is s good one and maybe they can leverage the same code for bombs, missiles, etc.
There are some particular moments in this that I keep seeing which I really enjoy, and I’m not certain whether it’s on purpose or not. I like the little moments that show the imperfections of the aliens in the tripods. When the tripod first emerges you hear the engine spinning up for several moments, and then it’s followed by a long pause before the war horn sounds off. That pause makes me imagine a crew of aliens shuffling around and performing checks and balances in preparation of their mission. I feel like that’s important, too. The original story hinges greatly upon the Martian’s shortcomings, and it would be very different without them. Other examples are the times when the tripods appear to be searching for something, only to hesitantly give up and move on, and the times where they destroy things without apparent intention to do so, such as when they step on things or when a laser fires partially into a structure before sweeping through the one adjacent to it. I think those little imperfections in their mannerisms make them even more intimidating, since it shows that they can still cause catastrophic damage even when they don’t mean to. Looks great, can’t wait to see what’s next!
I’d also like to see how adding a filter as of being seen through an old video camera would affect the atmosphere. Obviously not as a permanent feature, I’d hate to see all that lighting and effects get covered up by film grain forever.
I'm in shock at how good this looks and especially how close it gets to the movie as far as the lighting and general aesthetics go. The sound effects and animations are also incredible. I have to say, having seen the basic animations and tripod walk cycles you uploaded years ago, I never in a million years thought it would have led to something like this. I thought, that looks neat, but it'll probably never be able to turn into a workable game, it'll just be another cool tripod animation test. Well damn, am I glad to have been proven dead wrong. This is the game I've been wanting since 2005. Keep up the amazing work! I can't wait to buy this when it releases.
Some dust and debris effects would really make the destruction seem very realistic, and having your player character raise a hand to cover their eyes when looking in the direction of a nuclear explosion would make the bomb seem more powerful, in a sense.
Wow, I didn't know about the game, YT suggested the video to me by chance... But wow, that's intense. It must be so cool to experience it interactively. Just how immersive it is, I get goosebumps just watching it. It looks great and I like the whole idea so much. I'll keep an eye on the game, you've gained a new fan. 🙂
3 minutes in & I'm already sold. It looks great, the sounds gives me goosebumps, the destruction is insane, I am certainly getting this when it's released. Take your time with it, art cannot be rushed.
I’m seriously blown away by every new update video. I was hoping there would be REAL destruction when the laser would come in contact with the buildings since I remember the laser basically just gliding through them before. I’m so impatient for games like this but when I see updates consistent and improving like this it reminds me why we let it cook. This is looking like it’s going to be an instant buy.
Me: Could you imagine if we had this game as a kid? Also Me: Even better, we got it when were 40! On a serious note. This game is already beyond expectation and can't wait to see what else you do with it. Fantastic job sir!
War of the worlds with Tom Cruise was one of my favorite movies as a kid - I've always wondered why there wasn't a game for it. This looks absolutely incredible! Nice work. You got a new subscriber and I'm looking forward to seeing more updates! Seriously, looks amazing!
Sound design and the lighting from the tripods specifically is absolutely amazing. NPC designs and interactions need some attention, though, considering they'll probably be a pretty big part of the gameplay loop. It seems like a lot of the work went into playing as a Tripod, which looks like it feels great to play. If playing as a person during the invasion is going to be in the game, it should be polished and built on as much as possible. There's just my 2 cents on the game's development. It looks like a blast and I can't wait to see what will become of it!
This just appeared as a recommended vid and is the first I've seen of this game. It looks absolutely terrifying. I had no idea what I was about to watch so I had headphones on at a decent volume, the first tripod roar chilled my soul in a way I haven't experienced in awhile. I know it's edited highlights but the constant threat level and wanton destruction isn't like any game I've ever seen, and the world design is just gorgeous. The death ray, the plane crashes, the 'random event' nuke blast, I think I'd be in genuine fear for my life even knowing it's a game. Very impressed especially for pre-alpha footage.
This is insane. My first impressions awhile back was that it was too early to tell but its really shaping up to be something special particularly having other players hunt you down. Great ideas are poured into this. Keep up the great work.
I am slightly behind on the development history of this but to have seen it from here this looks like an absolute MUST play. I am genuinely shocked by the amount of detail added in not just the visuals but even the sound design, a lot of love has gone into this and as a fan of the 2005 movie I am grateful you guys have devoted so much time into this project. I absolutely love the night time in this with the flashes and explosions seen in the sky and the "walking sound" which is almost like their own theme song, it is so rhythmic. The rising up is chilling and the horn/ray guns charging sound is still as intimidating as I remember. Cant wait to see more, i will be following the news on this and hope to play soon..
I don't suppose the game will have an ingame codex, for like lore entries. Could really flesh out the aliens other than just being murderous, could unlock entries by seeing specific things like a harvest/ tripod squad marching, shields being impacted or by surviving a certain amount of time, reflecting what the main character has learned
Those 3 months of radio silence were a bit scary, but I see you've all wasted no time. This is simply amazing. There's clearly plenty of work to do yet, but seeing the new concepts get introduced is what's the most exciting part. You've expanded the military resistance, there's npcs (who can follow or be ordered around?) and the houses finally can come apart! The bones you're laying out are perfect, and with time it'll get fleshed out. (P.S. please try to find volunteers for voice lines in the future, or at the least someone for proofreading and listening to AI lines. Poor AI speech can harm immersion a lot.)
This is just some pre alpha footage, I’m sure they are trying to get as many concepts and gameplay mechanics done before they polish, and get voice actors, and let other people play. If it is text to speech bots doing the voices right now, then it’s just to speed up the production time.
I kinda regret putting my last comment here, because it seems like people are just gonna hate on the original commenter, but maybe they just dont really know how games are designed and the great graphics made them think it was almost done. Just giving you the benefit of the doubt because I dont know who you are.
I'm losing my mind this is so exciting to see this coming together more and more. I would like to place myself in any line to test game play out first 😂
Man every time you impress me with your updates. The probe cam is awesome. Lighting improvements add to the fear factor. Only thing that I’m not so sure on is the hud for the walkers. Seems a little too generic sci-fi. Doesn’t feel right for them. A lot of their tech has bluish lighting to them. So maybe the hud should be like that? The color of their probe lights and heat rays. Purpley blue green. And maybe some red/orange? Like the blood liquid that spills out at the end of the movie. Some filters maybe could help. They definitely help the probe cam feel right. Maybe circular field of view like the round lit porthole? On the front of the walkers. I assumed that’s were they look out of.
@@geemcspankinson Indeed. Many times brighter, even. It would literally fill the sky in white, you wouldn't even em be able to see for a second...Depending on the size and distance.
Looks incredible. I just hope the Dev's consider having the option of a LOT of players and tripods- if the game can handle it. Having 50-100 survivors being whittled down would be incredible.
(Deleted Previous Comment) Looked into it more and found there has been more talk about an expansive multiplayer experience. So never mind. As long as the server can handle player counts (probably best to go dedicated servers like an Arma or Minecraft) then I don't see why you couldn't do 50+ human players and say 5 aliens (slot based), but keep all the NPCs and stuff.
How am I only finding out abut this now? This looks and sounds INCREDIBLE. Massive props to everyone involved! I will be watching the development with anticipation!
Raf this is just absolutely incredible mate! War of the Worlds is one of my favourite films. The attention to detail along with the atmosphere is amazing. I’m so looking forward to playing this when it comes out!
Incredible power of the dev team.. Everytime a new video comes out it just feels like seeing a new game.. great work, this game gets even more scarier than before
I love that the premise of the game is surviving day to day. Sometimes the best games have simple objectives but actually pay attention to the atmosphere and feel they want players to experience.
I was holding my breath for that first minute waiting for the horn. That is AWESOME! Put such a big smile on my face. I feel like a tripod rising is one of those things where you can't help but watch even though it's probably going to kill you. Makes you feel like a deer in headlights.
I. LOVE. THE. NUKE! This is actually the most realistic nuclear detonation I have ever seen in a video game. As a physics nerd myself, I absolutely love it! Maybe you could also make some shock wave effects, like getting pushed to the ground or glass shattering. Would be really cool to see some firestorms in the distance as well.
Ever since the movie got released i dreamed about a game like what you are putting together. Plenty of times over the many years i decided to do it myself but never got far with it. To see someone build that which Ive only ever could dream of is such a wonderfully feeling. I'm super exited for this and cant wait to experience the love and hard work that went into this
I'm not someone who is easily frightened by games or movies. This is genuinely terrifying to watch and experience. It feels so personal and real. All of the ambient sounds and weather conditions make it seem way too real. Imma go have nightmares now. Lol
Oh man, VR and co-op survival with friends would be absolutely insane. VR would work so well for peaking around corners. Especially since it does such a good job of demonstrating scale. Could you imagine seeing a tripod walking toward you in vr.
The newly added building destruction is astonishing and the volumetric lighting is phenomenal. One thing I want to ask for though. Can I please see the Martians exiting their machines and searching a home with the player inside it? I already saw some of your videos showing the Martians entering peoples homes but can you show them again? I just would like to see how it looks with the new development! 😁
This looks promising! The Steven Spielberg's version of War Of The Worlds is just amazing, the Alien design is uniquely nightmarish! A survival horror game about this? I'm all in. It seems to me that you have ALOT of work to do but you're in the right direction! Only thing I would say is; don't rush it. Good luck m8!

@@FranciumBoron Yes! (:

This is amazing! If I may be so bold, one suggestion. It would be really atmospheric if after the alien murder horn sounds, the birds and ambient animal noises go silent. Like even the wildlife is like "aww hell no" and hides. I know this is a work in progress so maybe you already thought of that. Anyways this looks incredible.
An extra added detail to this should be having a visual effect of flocks of birds fleeing from nearby trees/forests
Yes, this and absolute silence when it’s snowing. Imagine it goes from just the gentle patter of snowfall to insanely loud alien horn or military movement
Ugh, that would be excellent and it would even be a terrifying atmosphere where the new leader of the food chain is already being proclaimed...
Alien murder horn? Why not it crying out "UUUUUUUULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"?
it'd be sick if, before the horn sounds or the laser hits, the plants and trees in the area or in the targeted attack area would bend, sucked inwards towards the tripod as if it was creating a vacuum before releasing the horn or the attack.

Some dust particle effects would go a long way in selling the destruction effect. This project has improved so much its wild

Underrated movie. The emergence of the tripods at the beginning was unreal. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie.
@@williampowell2104 not as good as the original recordings
I imagine if some big team can create a game based on a book, early 20th century, weapons and aestetics of this times, no crappy shields on tripods and armour only. That could be brutal.
The movie itself is mediocore, especially the idea of alien giant machines that were hidden not so deep into the ground, and was not uncovered.
Read the book. It's by H.G. Wells. That movie is just a really jank take on it, virtually no relation to the original story.
@@MrDoska Mediocre is a very generous way to describe it.
Pluses:
-Destruction. It really adds to tension and fear, if your hideout can be just destroyed and wooden toilet stops being indestructible fotress
-All the graphical and atmospheric improvements
-Random events, amry strikes etc
-Even improved tripod mode
-Those ceepy sounds during probing
Minuses:
-Lack of emotions in NPC line, even when they witnessed human horrors beyond pineapple-strawberry pizza and tripod is right next to them, they are calm af and talking like they are describing what they will be eating for lunch.
NPCs are robotlike probably as just a placeholder until the big important stuff is finished. Then there will be adjustments and optimisation I guess
@@bitter_revenant I hope so.

Most likely not a placeholder considering the voice lines are AI-generated.

If it will ever come out. Looks like we have to wait until 2027 with some luck

May he rest in peace
sorry for your loss, i just recently lost my father so i know the pain of losing a loved one. wishing you all the best.
There is a complete loss of inflection, tone or just.... acting.
This whole heartily
Early game development typically uses lower quality models/voice acting/textures to fill in gaps while more important mechanics and gameplay are worked on, this voice acting more than likely isn’t going to be in the final project? i could be wrong, idk
@@serkotsinsI remember in the leaked version of Duke Nukem Forever, the general had a TTS voice so I guess you are on to something.
This games looking great its been so cool seeing how its developed over time
I'm loving everything about this update.
3:00- Don’t give up hope. We can outrun whatever’s chasing… ZZAAAAAAAAPPPP!!!
the tripod really said "nuh uh"
18:36 there’s something deeply disturbing about that death sequence. A flash of light in the retinas, barely long enough to gasp as you register that your life is over, and that’s it. Burned to ashes. Nicely done 👏🏻
This is my first time seeing this game, and it looks absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere of a total war zone where no place is safe is amazing, and the aliens and sound design trigger my fear of giant things so hard. This is a masterpiece which truly shows how scary one of the original alien invasion stories really was.

It looks repetitive as hell. They will really need to somehow add more content if they want this game to be fun for more than 30 minutes
@@stadtjer689I disagree, Iv seen more repetition in mainstream games.. My only critisism would be that more work needs putting into the npc's, their reactions turn a scary scene into a comically bland one because they lack any kind of normal emotions in these terrifying situations

@@nerdytom6881 well it already doesn't look like a nuke because there was no double-flash. The double flash is the calling card of the nuclear blast.
@@anonydun82fgoog35 That doesn't mean much. The flash should have resulted in instant blindness because of the facing of the character. But it didn't.
This could either mean:
Now for the things I hope are improved (and likely will.. work-in-progress and all)
- Daytime is overblown inside and outside, but I'm taking it as a known issue since you spent 90% of the video in the nighttime. One part looks pretty darn good (19:04) but then looks bad again soon after (19:08)
- Military attacks, wish the explosion effects were a little less showy? Faster, maybe conform to the shield. Also wish the jet sounds weren't so sudden (as in, only the ripping roar and no distant rumble)
- Wish the tripod HUD felt more alien and incomprehensible, with gauges that don't look like or act like what we'd expect, and flashing status monitoring panels, that sort of thing.
If you guys make this multiplayer it will be one of the sickest experiences ever
there is multiplayer!
He already said this is going to have a multiplayer mode.
based on how the multiplayer mode looks it will be sick
@@MrGoji12345Not yet but it was said to be planned.
with multiplayer it will be as unforgiving as DayZ standalone, just the NPC is a massive man eating tripod you cannot kill.... with a fetish for pyrotechnics.
The nuke would get more civilians then the pods... not good for the movie but good for the game.
@@MasterPiffy It's loosely based off the book but almost directly based off the 2005 movie, which is set in the early 2000s.
I will always adore the delay between rising and horn, it just makes the tripod so much more menacing
I just want to tell you that you have single-handedly ignited nightmares of running from tripods while they hunt me down.
I've never been happier to be scared out of my mind and I cannot wait for this to be playable publically. You've done such fantastic work dude ♥
Knowing that those giants deploy little creatures to search buildings looking for you will add extra horror but this is terrifying.
Those probes are horrific, when you cant even hide
Those “little creatures” are the aliens that are piloting it.
Can you imagine this as a Survival Royal with the homies? This is absolutely amazing and terrifying!
hell yeahhh
It would be fun seeing a Tripod search the house across the street *that your friend is in.*
@@w1ndgeneral226And u are in another house with Rachel.
@@w1ndgeneral226It would be even funnier if stupid Rachel starts screaming like in the movie and the tripod suddenly comes to your house and catches you while your friend is dying of laughter on the other side of the street 😂😂😂.
Can you imagine, you're hidden inside and looking out the window watching your friend run for the house and the get nuked
The sounds, the movements, the atmospheric stuff, the sounds of the lasers. This is giving me some serious chills.
The fact that everything can be destroyed is game changing ❤
I don't think so actually
I’m seriously blown away by every new update video. I was hoping there would be REAL destruction when the laser would come in contact with the buildings since I remember the laser basically just gliding through them before. I’m so impatient for games like this but when I see updates consistent and improving like this it reminds me why we let it cook. This is looking like it’s going to be an instant buy.
This game just gets better every time a new video releases amazing job on making this game from the 2005 movie can’t wait!❤️🔥
Me: Could you imagine if we had this game as a kid?
Also Me: Even better, we got it when were 40!
On a serious note. This game is already beyond expectation and can't wait to see what else you do with it. Fantastic job sir!
Serious Half Life 2 : Episode 2 vibes
You have fulfilled my childhood dream by creating this game. I always loved this movie and the sound effects are insanely cool
not sure if u know this but the movie is free for a while on youtube the one with tom cruise btw

If they really go all in with this game, it’ll be one of the best horror games to ever exist.
Pretty sure it's just one person making it
Yeah… right.
This looks crazy good. You got an entire destructible world and fully functional tripods already. And that night lighting looks phenomenal.
I was sold on buying it just to play as a tripod
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. It fascinated and terrified me all at once. This game looks incredible. Can not wait to play it.
This is such an entitled comment
I would like to place myself in any line to test game play out first 😂
Tool.
The atmosphere makes me think of Alien: Isolation, in terms of immersion. I really appreciate good atmosphere, and this is looking quite good!
I agree. The developer should at VR to this. It would be so terrifying.
VR is such a small market right now its not really worth it@@Hervinbalfour

Looks incredible. I just hope the Dev's consider having the option of a LOT of players and tripods- if the game can handle it. Having 50-100 survivors being whittled down would be incredible.
You're almost asking for an whole new game in terms of coding/developing and budget, I'd love to see it too but i really doubt it.
@@kentreed2011 Even 20-30 people would be incredible. It depends, of course, on the size/scale of the map.
Similar to Arma or DCS handles large scale dynamics, but without the crazy amount of simulation data stream per aircraft.
@@chrisrobinson9899 Completely agree. It all depends if the server/engine can handle it, and if the map/resources are appropriately balanced.

It's insane how much this has improved over the last six months. The airplane crash and the nuke are incredible! Can't wait for the release. Bravo!
The fact that the war horns are affected and changed by the environment is amazing! Not just using the stock war horn on them is the cherry on top.
