The first 2 minutes did that to me. It was like a person's perspective of being on the hills, the scene when Ray and his family swim out of the bay, and just watch Tripod's disintegrating people

What honestly might make things creepier is if when something happened like a probe or an alien showed up, all the birds just... stopped. Like they do when there's a predator nearby. Just imagine you're in the woods and suddenly the birds go silent and then you see an alien out of the corner of your eye

Honestly that's my biggest gripe with the game at the moment. The crickets and nuisent birds going off in your ear 24/7.
I think they should also tone down the crowd sounds too, they sound repetitive and annoying everytime you see a tripod approach. I'd much prefer the thunderous boom of a tripod alerting you than a crowd of people.

i think if the aliens hadn't ever left the tripods, they totally couldve won against at least *most* of the world, considering they were pretty much untouchable until they started overstepping their boundaries and got the common cold
Maybe, but I'd say it was the aliens own biology which failed them. All of their fancy technology and they couldn't stop their own demise at the hands of simple microbes.
A "look over your shoulder" button would be quality of life and feel immersive. Being able to run forwards and hold a button to see slighly behind you but able to run while you peek would be more fluid and natural.

I always loved cowarding indoors while an unstoppable threat looms just outside. Makes me feel alive.
I like how the crickets and wildlife are still making noises during an alien assault but when I take one step outside my backyard all crickets and birds stop.
It would be cool if they only made noise when the tripods were X distance away - kinda like a proximity safety indicator but on a broad scale not close up.
@@crises7601maybe during the probe sequence they are muffled or stopped completely to add suspense the only audio you hear is the mechanical sounds of the probe and looming tripod above
Animals tend to go silent when a more dangerous animal is nearby. Seems they see you as the apex in the area.
He nerfed the aliens as well. Use to be far more intimidating.
When caseoh steps outside the house the tripods go quite and stop attacking and hide instead
It feels so satisfying to know that the player will be able to actually kill the Martians when they're outside of the Tripods, although you should probably make them a bit more reactive to being injured when attacked by the player and maybe other armed human NPCs such as the military and looters if they manage to encounter the alien pilots while hiding in nearby structures.
Like a flinching animation and maybe some blood decals with visible wound textures on the character models for the Martians shown in the video.
I also love how you can use artillery to fight them, but it's still useless.

I know this has probably been said several times but I cant help but love how fluent the movements of the tripods are. Every update the game just gets better and better and I really cant wait to play it.

@@entermusic93 It's hard to notice but the main way to tell is by the shape of the "hood". The larger tripods (hill scene) have a wider and larger hood with 5 lights, and the regular tripods (first attack scene) have 3 lights and a narrower hood. The game developers stayed truthful to these design principles which is awesome.
I appreciate the gameplay showing REAL camera (mouse) movement and not the slow ass cinematic joystick pan that we always see in E3 trailers

This looks amazing! The atmosphere is perfect. The fact that it is not just about running away from big things, but also having to survive down on the ground, hiding and scavenging.
It would be nice to see book-accurate aliens as well.
To this day the most insane movie-going experience I've ever seen, or heard of. Everyone was screaming in terror, and screaming in delight, we all felt a wave of "look at what movies can do!!!" Crash over us, now I can relive that joy/terror by playing this game.
Hearing the horns go off in theatres must have been crazy. Wish I were alive back then to witness it.
This is one of my most favorite movies to this day

The most endearing sound is the sound of machinery with it's constant calm pace.
I can't say how much I love the added delay with sounds. It adds so much more depth to the game.

one thing i love (i believe it's intentional), is the fact that sound seem to have a realistic speed. We hear the lasers a few moments after we see them being fired. It really helps putting the scale into perspective.
...Also, that means in some cases that hearing the laser means that you were not its target, which is insanely cool.
Just like the warthog in real life. lol, if you hear it cannons, it means you weren't the target.
Except the lasers are like 1 to 2 hundred metres away but there's a half second delay which is not realistic.
Raf's made a bigger and better game in 3 years than yandere dev has in almost a decade, just hope more RUclipsrs pick this game and it gets more popular, 100% deserves it, keep up the amazing work wotw team

I think for the crowds of people, the more the tripod lasers them, the quieter it gets, because it would make it that much more eerie.

You're all alone and trapped in a confined space, tripods are everywhere, there's chaos happening all around you, and people are dying right in front of you. And worst of all, there's no where to go.
The confided space is the safest place to be in tbh. I think the running out into the open space is a lot more scary because there's nothing to take cover under.

I've wanted something like this for the longest time, the elements in particular being an open world survival where things happen literally everywhere, meaning I want to hear/ see things at a great distance in relative safety. Background occurances that have nothing to do with the player make for incredibly atmospheric environments

That film was my childhood and it still feels like yesterday. Time is flying too fast brother
That movie was so maniac... They literally made giant terrifying machines with terrifying sounds. That's literally nightmare fuel. And i was liked it. And i still love that movie.
There was a long time when that movie got tons of hate online, mainly because of the annoying kids. And to be fair they were the worst part of the movie.
But aside from that, it’s a great film with so many iconic scenes. It feels like more people are starting to recognize that now.

The blooms on the beams at night look WAY better.. all the post processing is just amazing. Speaking of which, the reverse AO/ global illumination bouncing at night on the interiors in the cracks and behind objects illuminates in a strange way.. but Im sure you realize this. Great work/.
The development of this game has been phenomenal, absolutely terrifying. Wouldn't be crazy if they Made "A Quiet Place" game after this project? it would be wild!

Imagine trying to hide in a building with maybe a few survivors and you see/hear that probe coming inside...That scene was terrifying in the movie and the game seems to be doing it justice. Creepy ass snake looking probe. Can't wait.

@@Guardian-of-Light137 Google can probably explain it better than I can but it was supposed to take place after the ferry scene and before the scene on the hill. It's basically them in this townhome Area where all the tripods that had just gone over by the ferry come walking by and I'm talking like 20 or 30. The trio is hiding behind a car and they see one of the tripods break off income towards where they are, it goes up to the row of townhomes and essentially busts out a crap ton of windows with its probe starts yanking people out and putting them into the holding cages
I’m sure you guys are already aware if it’s a glitch or if there’s a reason behind it that you’re aware of, but in the seconds leading up to 4:35 there are power cables coming from a pylon out of the window that suddenly takes a right angle turn with nothing influence the turn then - maybe a missing assert
I hope this doesn’t come across as some cockwomble wanting to shit on the game but it’s the opposite: I really want this to succeed but you know how reviewers are and will sh!t on a near perfect gaming experience if there’s even the smallest graphical error or a rock pigeon in a slightly different shade of rock pigeon colour.
The game looks incredible and I’m really looking forward to the release.

The game is almost complete! Now, the final touch would be, that there would be gigantic human groups like in the 2005 war of the worlds, like in the ship scene. Or many NPCs would be nearby when the tripod emerges from the ground.

It's darn so good and scary hearing people screaming in distance, and the npc also have a lot of dialogue, man im so into this game

Hey dev, if you see this, there was a good idea of making the crickets being kind of safety indicator, but i have a better idea.
Make so when the tripods are away, there is more wildlife, including the one that brings danger. When they are closer, but not too close, only the crickets are heard. And when they are REALLY close, even the crickets are gone. A subtle yet nice addition it will be.
Seeing it from the Alien's perspective was fucking savage boy. Absolutely a shit ton of work went into this once again. A MARVEL of programming, modelling skills.
Honestly all I think is missing is making the city feel less empty ( maybe some trash, garbage cans, etc ), the forest having a bit more shrubs but that's it really, and finally as others said is make wildlife quite down when the aliens are near just some more horror aspects really but other then that Amazing work on the game so far .
Yeah and the broken NPC AI and rendering.

When I watched this movie as a kid all I could think about right into my 20's is how kick-ass a game would be. Now at 27 there's one being developed, and it looks astounding. Amazing work.
I love how it gives you the option to greet someone while they're running from their lives.

The probes are terrifying. Its been implemented very well and I am impressed how it can navigate around complex geometry without clipping through stuff.
When those jets rolled in and that commercial plane came crashing right after was a cinematic masterpiece
The martians actually going out of their machines to meet you is actually quite scary. I still have a preference for their apparence in the book though, with their squid-like apparence
Honestly though, a tripod shape makes sense given the design of their ship. It's like an alien gundam or mech built after their own image.
@justinkautz7733 I get the point, but I disagree because it makes them "less alien" in a way. In the book they are described as roughly as "a head with 16 fingers" because they evolved using machines, meaning they only need a head to think and fingers to operate said machines.
Even the scene when the aliens go out of the tripod to chase the protagonist, they are still crawling around using machines mimicking hands, which they use to build themselves a base on the ground.

I like the new building destruction overhaul. It may look a bit cartoonish and less realistic, but it will be much better for performance. I , for one, would probably not notice the difference in the ensuing chaos anyway.
So a building breaking into pieces like legos is more realistic?
In the movie (if I remember correctly) the laser don't leave flames and blast building like wind on a card castle
But it's probably difficult to replicate in a game engine so the Metal Gear Rising cutting physic do the job
It's still in Pre-Alpha, I'm sure once we reach the beta and final optimization stages it will be significantly improved further both in looks and performance.
@@sinistersh0t2741 Its 3 years in production, it still looks extremely barebone, I dont believe it will ever leave alfa honestly.
The feel of the destruction does feel the same, just wanton chaos, knocking cars around without car. If everything evaporated or exploded into millions of pieces you’d have less to show for your efforts as an Alien. Also, as you said - chaos is a great distraction.
Apart from GTA VI, this is propably on the top of the list of games i really need. Keep up the good work, it's coming along very nicely!

It's getting more and more better then it's a masterpiece
I still think there should be a capability to hide from the probe and aliens in a wardrobe or something. Or maybe in cupboards. In the original wells book, the narrator hid from them in a pile of coal. There needs to be some "safe places" so that you can evade the aliens consistently without tipping them off. Perhaps a hold breath option to devrease detection when hiding but still make it possible to be found
It would fascinating if there were a game mode where you were the _only_ survivor on the map and the singular objective is to survive like 3 days without being killed. All the while the aliens have multiple tripods and are even willing to send out a small army of ground aliens.
I love the details of the leaves burning and disintegrating when the beams from the alien weapons hit them. Outstanding.

If this has a chance of being released console-side, it's likely going to be a long time down the line. The devs will have their hands full making sure the game works on PC as it is. Survival open world is a tough cookie to take care of, even when they're on top of things.
