Look up a bias tape maker, they have them in like 25mm widths, you feed the strip through and "walk" your iron towards it, then pull it down the fabric more. It works great, and they're pretty cheap. It's just a little cone-ish thing that folds the ends in for you. Then you wouldnt have to cut the fabric strip in half and could just work your way down the whole strip
I really love your work. I discovered this trick, making your own labels, however, I use 22mm ribbon - works a treat. I do like the way you make your labels. I do not have a heat press. I use an iron. Thank you for sharing, Taylor.
I’ve done my labels myself for years, but I iron onto twill tape, so I don’t have to fold and iron the long edges. I only fold under the ends and sew on.
I haven't made my own labels ever (I used to have them printed for me), but mine were on a satin ribbon. Easy to just cut the length and sew the raw edges to the seams. This looked so easy I might want to try and make my own labels just for fun, and I'll try it on satin ribbon (no folding&ironing the edges). :)
This was my favorite video on this topic. Labels for our hand mades are very necessary, but the choices are not very good. This was a well done walk through on your process and it was interesting to see how you incorporated your heat press into the plan! Thanks so much!!!

How do you get the labels set up in word? I have the transfer paper but I just don't know where to begin with the labels, I've tried a few times with no luck at all
Can try using a table and making the borders invisible. Print on normal paper and hold up to light to check placement before using expensive transfer paper.
Have a try on your text editor (such as Word, OpenOffice, Pages or even Google Docs). Some of them have tutorials/ready made patterns how to make business cards etc. so maybe they will be useful. Or another handy tool is Canva.com. It is very easy to use. You can make a picture of your label design and then save it to your computer and open your text editor and just copy & paste the picture as many times as your page can contain, be remindful of the seam and trimming allowances needed. BE CAREFUL TO MIRROR THE PAGE BEFORE PRINTINg (or you will have you words backwards on the canvas). Print your design on the ironing paper and iron it on your fabric.
I tried this !! and love it BUT.... each time I tried it I get a clear sheet like almost as its glue on the design .... no matter how long or hot I use the iron.. Is this normal ? I dont see any clear shinny thing on yours. I use AVERY for lights
Yes! Need to wash on cold and depending on the paper it lasts for a very long time without fading. I used to make t shirts and they never faded when I wore them 🥰
