Anette had the voice of my Nightwish. Anette’s voice made Nightwish more accessible to the listeners who found the operatics too much, me included. DPP and Imaginerum are my two favourite albums and the only ones I listen too, and as far as I know still Nightwishes most listened too.
How nice to find this comment. I I’ve been a Nightwish fan for a grand total of two months. I’ve listened to quite a lot, and so far, I actually prefer the operatic with Tarja put up against the metal. But listening to the three styles, I can definitely see the benefits and be appreciative of each one. I’m just now deep diving into Annette’s albums, and it’s always great to get a different perspective.
I may get drummed out of the Nightwish Army for this, but I discovered the band and became a fan with Anette’s first album with the band. When Floor came on board my enthusiasm for the band grew. With all the debate about their 3 awesome singers we can’t lose sight of Toumas’s genius song writing and the world class talent of all the members of the band. So sit back, if it’s Nightwish the song will be great no matter who is singing.
About the drummer, who seems to go to battle according to you: In 2019 Nightwish announced the official leave of founding drummer Jukka Nevalainen. Although he's taken time off for chronic insomnia since 2014, the original percussionist for the Finnish symphonic metal band will continue "to take care of the band's businesses in the background" once he steps down completely from the drum throne. In 2014, Nevalainen first made clear that he wouldn't contribute to Nightwish's 8th album and subsequent tours due to health issues, making the following year's Endless Forms Most Beautiful the group's first effort without him. The musician has finalized that decision and ceremoniously introduced the band's new drummer, who has been performing with Nightwish as a live member since that initial announcement. "It has now been five years since his difficult decision, due to severe insomnia, to step aside from the Vehicle of Spirit of Nightwish," Nevalainen said. "This included the previous studio album and the tours which followed. … He decided not to push his luck by returning to the band. His dear pal Kai Hahto took his place as a full-time member." Hahto previously performed with acts such as Rotten Sound, Swallow the Sun and Wintersun.
Yes, I have since shooting this Reaction some time ago discovered this information and I appreciate you sharing this. I have a great respect for both drummers. I can't imagine how frustrating it was for Jukka.
Some people can be a bit precious about the singers. It's a great song. This is a great version. Floor does a great live version. Vive la difference. It's a win win. What's not to like about that?
Those two boys carrying the angel is taken straight from the classic painting "Haavoittunut enkeli" ("Wounded Angel") considered a national treasure by Hugo Simberg. He is a Finnish painter. The painting is from 1903. It can be seen in Ateneum in Helsinki. Ateneum is the number one art museum in Finland.
Annette while not my personal favorite, she still made a spot for herself. I think she did a good job on a lot of the songs. the other two songs she excels on is "Slow Love Slow" and "Bye, Bye Beautiful"
You can't compare any of the three Nightwish singers, ultimately; they are all completely unique in their style from each other. As far as the songs specifically written for Annette, I prefer the Annette versions personally. Perhaps that is because that is how I first heard them, and nostalgia is a powerful thing, but either way, she hits her own songs well enough. In any case, the Annette era is a part of the Nightwish evolution; if you're a true fan, you will appreciate all three eras of the band.
When I first heard Nightwish,it was Dark Passion Play and I was on my way to a renfest,to say I was blown away is an understatement 🤘 fast forward a couple years I traveled to Fla to see Nightwish and Annette left and it was Floors sixth show. Absolutely revived and reignited my love for live music and I have traveled the whole US and several other countries just for concerts🤘💜🤘 Annette has a special place for me for sure 🤘
In answer to your question, & only being a fairly recent Nightwish fan, realistically, Taja, Anette & Floor have all been very successful with NW's progressive Albums ! Tuomas saw all their individual strength & styles, & wrote appropriate music to suit each lady. So each new Album was very well received, even with each lead singer change ! You would not be dissappointed with any of their Albums, & that certainly shows how great Tuomas is at composing & how professional each member of the band is at their talents !
Totally agree with you summation of Tuomas But now with Floor he has all the vocal weapons at his disposal No more concerns can she or cant she. Now hes free to write as he feels realizing all he has to do is show Floor the words and melody and shes got it on any level needed No questions No regrets You can see it in in his face when they are on stage togethe.r He writes now for NIghtwish not for the singer. I truly believe Nightwish is now whole and hopefully will remain so for a long time
I like Anette’s Nightwish albums. In fact, her second album with Nightwish, Imaginarum, is the favourite album for quite a few people. I mostly prefer the Floor era and the way she does the older songs, that also includes Anette’s songs, but there is some great stuff on Anette’s albums Dark Passion Play and Imaginarum indeed. I mostly prefer Anette studio work, not so much her live performances with Nightwish. Anette mostly just didn’t fit with most of the older Nightwish songs and she often had to sing at a pitch that wasn’t comfortable for her. However, like I said, I like her studio work. I recommend checking out Meadows of Heaven, my favourite Anette song and one of my most favourite Nightwish songs in general. That song also has a sound you have not really heard from Nightwish yet, so that should be interesting. I think Anette is great in the band, The Dark Element, that she is in right now as well.
Positive Crunch Then I recommend checking out their song called My Sweet Mystery. I recommend checking out the studio version, or official music video if there is one, first and see if you like it. If you do, I, and maybe also some other people, can recommend some more songs by them.
This is my first time hearing Anette sing with Nightwish, also. Infact, first time hearing Nightwish. But, not my first time hearing Anette. I have listened (many times) both Dark Element albums. Along with Anette's solo album, SHINE.
If you take Ghost love Score, which is one of the most watched Nightwish songs - it is the Floor version that does this one popular, and get people hook, stunned and addicted. As goes for Dead Boy's Poem - and everything else, where Floor has taken the song, and made ir her own version. All three singers have different singing styles and techniques - and also different ways of expressing the song. In my opinion, it is here Floor is so much stronger than the others - hell, she is stronger than anyone else - just look at Beste Zangers!!. The way Floor is able to interpret and express songs are unique, mayby because she has endless many voice colors and techniques plus power and her whole body working - she multi dimension shows the emotions in songs - like very very few others. Another pinpoint are when Nightwish are recording songs - Floor is much quicker than the other two have ever been, hitting the right feeling in the songs. She has caught Tuomas's meaning or mindset from the start, and it it something about being on the same page or/and chemistry. I don't know exactly what, but Floor are able to catch the soul and emotions of the songs - and express it better - much quicker. Therefore she is the perfect match. There are different documentaries about this, like the making of Endless forms most Beautiful - where Tuomas and the others addresses this. It's 2 hours well spent 👍
I've been a fan since 04. I love all 3 singers. All for different reasons. Tarja had the balls to follow Tuomas dreams. Annette brought a different sound and the band picked her unanimously. An had the guts to try to replace Tarja. Floor can do it all. An is perfect for Nightwish. This is my favourite song of the Annette era.
You know Nightwish has a full length feature film, Imaginearum, weird Tim Burton vibe, kind of gets lost because they released it just as Annette left the band on not so good terms 🤘
this was my first taste of NW. Annette gets a lot of grief for things that had nothing to do with her talent and abilities: how Tarja left, the fact that her vocal style and voice were radically different from Tarja's, getting pregnant right before their world tour, then leaving the band the way she did. they auditioned several singers before choosing Annette. Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum were outstanding albums, and she did extremely well on both. personally, i prefer Annette's voice to Tarja's. Tarja's all opera all the time style is something i'm not a huge fan of. "Nemo", originally sung by Tarja, was their "biggest hit", reaching higher on most charts than any of their previous singles, or any since. as far as their best selling album, that i don't know. i've attempted to look it up, but, their music is so loved in so many different countries, it's hard to pin down which album sold the most in which country.
I liked Annette era because you got to hear Nightwish on the radio. Loving all of them equally, Marco the most. Your son would love Annette's Scaretale 😉
It's important to consider that DPP and Storytime were concieved and written by Tuomas to fit exactly Annette's pitch and style. It's what he always does.
If you want to check out some more great Dutch symphonic metal bands there is the ‘holy trinity ‘....Nightwish (of course) , then Epica and Within Temptation. You can even put Delain in that mix. They all feature amazing female singers who are unique and simply out of this world. I would suggest checking out Within Temptation ..Angels (official video) If you already know that song then try Epica ...Design Your Universe (live version). So much amazing music to discover with these bands.
Floor can do it all. Pop, rock, opera, salsa, anything. She is phenomenal. Check out Floor Jansen Beste Zangers. It is a show that features all different professional singers (genre) and they sing each other's songs to each other. It is not a contest. The first night, Floor sang first. The others quickly knew to end the show with floor because she blew everyone out of the couch and was amazing. I started really listening to NW during The poet and the pendulum. Saw them in concert with Anette in Atlanta and really loved it... but IMO FLOOR is the best.
Oh believe me, for the two albums that were written for her, she was an ideal fit. The skill of the composer is to write music to suit the talent he has at his disposal.
Although in my opinion it would have been quite superior if Floor were there since the recording of those albums. Those two albums are awesome because are heavier specially DPP. Emppu's guitar work is very present in those. DPP sold like pancake.
Yeah! I agree. Tuomas is like tailor, he compose songs that suits his lead singer! It is Great talent! Songs that vere made for Tarja Are in most cases best song by her and Also songs that were made for Anette Are Great with her. Floor just is so vertisale that she can do both and more. But I personally liked all three and Tuomas is Great tailor indeed ;)
@@richardtomlin8704 Superior, quite factual, since at least some songs for DPP were already done even before Anette came on board. Theres no doubt that Floor would have made a flawless vocal work for those songs. Tuomas records the vocal line with the piano and then the singer gives her own personal touch to said melodic line. I bet Marko sang himself many of those songs before Anette jumped in so I think there was room for different vocal tones.
That doesn't intend to take away from Anette's work, songs like "Eva" "slow love slow" "meadows of heaven" are beautiful in her voice. Still in general, The repertoire of vocal nuances they could have incorporated with Floor's endless range, would have made, vocally, better albums. The only little downside to me in those albums is how similar Anette sounds in most songs, because musically some would say those albums are their best work.
Nice reaction! Annette was a decent studio singer, but not the best at live performing. Along with Everett AB, I think 'Meadow of Heavens' is my favorite song of hers. Again, studio or music video version. Not a live version.
Hey Tim, I hope you are still doing well. I never stopped following NW through the Annette years. The albums were good. The live performances are what really suffered. Annette had some very unfortunate luck on tour with her voice and her health. I never got to see NW live during the Tarja years. I was not able to see them live until they came to The Masquerade in Atlanta GA in 2007 on the Dark Passion Play tour. Then in May of 2008 they came back to the USA on the same tour and I was able to catch them at Headliners in Louisville KY. I was able to catch them again at The Masquerade in 2009. In September of 2012 I saw them at The Center Stage Theater in Atlanta GA. The energy of that show was way off IMO. It was a good show, it just was not and "Exciting" show. Shortly after that show Annette fell ill and Floor was called on to fill in for Annette...I was very disappointed that I was not able to see Floor on that tour. I guess my point is that it was Tuomas' music that kept me coming back for more. As long as the band does not go to completely "growl" vocals, I will be there until the end. Thank you for your reaction and take care my friend.
That is awesome! I can't wait to see them. I am healing by the day. Ready to get back at it. Luckily we had a ton a videos shot. Sheeeewww. This has been a rough 3 weeks
They are ALL good singers ! For me Tarja; is more operatic...Anette; is more Pop....Floor ; is the perfect bled of both plus more range and power. She is also a strong stage presence that fits just right. Watch the videos, with Floor it is high energy and smiles about what they are accomplishing musically. They kick ass and enjoy the hell out of it !
They have big songs in all eras, but the 2 albums that they did with Anette were actually very successful and contain many of their biggest hits. She was very good in studio, not so good live, she had trouble to sing the older songs. Most of her stuff was done better live by Floor. She completed their tour for the 2nd album with Anette, Imaginaerum, which contains great songs like Storytime, Ghost River, Song of Myself, I Want my Tears Back. Tarja era has of course many great songs as well, including Ghost Love Score. Only 2 albums from Floor era, one that just came out this April, but there are also great material there.
@@PositiveCrunch Your welcome! Forgot to mention, that the show Floor entered and completed was of course Wacken 2013. So you already know some songs from there.
u gotta watch nightwish - the islander (live at tampere). and again plz react to beast in black, “blind and frozen”, “from hell with love” and the singers cover of nightwish ghost love score. imma keep requesting it till u do it ^_^
Funny enough many of the most popular songs are from both of the albums featuring Anette. But that has more to do with the musical crafting in those albums than with Anette.
@@PositiveCrunch Another point, it might be the case that Floor albums have the lesser number of popular songs, but to be fair those are still very fresh and need time to sink in. Cheers!
It's like you said, she's not a bad singer it just wasn't the right band for her. However, i do think this song "belongs " to Anette. I liked your reaction, keep it up!🤘🤘
i have been trying to listen to Anette some j ust can not seem to make it through any live videos she just was not suited but although a bit poppy and all head voice this isnt terrible
You can find brilliant versions of all 3 singers singing 'Sleeping' on YT. Anette came in and sang material not written for anybody but Tuomas' anger and pain. She sang the songs written for her wonderfully, her register just was not there at this point in her career for the demands of live performances of some songs. Now in her career she really gets it, like Tarja she is in the right place just like Floor is with the band. I would say the band arrived with Tarja singing although 'Dark Passion Play' and 'Imaginaerum' contains some of the major concert staples. 'EFMB' and 'HN' contain material that will stand the test of time IMO, I have been a fan since the first album and never wavered no matter who was singing.
I did stop following NW after the messy Tarja thing, and did not like Anette's style. That being said, just few months ago I noticed these reaction videos of NW and decided to check these out. And then I heard Floor for the first time. Glad I did, I'm back from reserves in active duty of NW army. NW sounds now even better with Floor than with Tarja, perfect match made in rock heaven.
Positive Crunch, yep. This is the list of songs played in Radio by Nightwish that are singles: -Sleeping Sun (Tarja era) -Wishmaster (Tarja) -Bless the Child (Tarja) -Ever Dream (Tarja) -Nemo (Tarja) -Wish I Had an Angel (Tarja) -Eva (Anette) -Amaranth (Anette) -Bye Bye Beautiful (Anette) -Storytime (Anette) -Elan (Floor) -Endless Forms Most Beautiful (Floor) -Noise (Floor) -How's the heart (Floor)
Annette is very good but not really Nightwish material. Tarja was great but Floor stole the show. It really didn't matter the singer Thoumas has written well for all of them and make the songs work well.
I do admit her voice doesn't quite fit the Nightwish sound but since I came so late to the party myself I guess I don't have quite the same bias against her as others do.
Anette’s version of poet and the Pendulum is so bad after hearing Floor’s version. Floor sings it with emotion and you can hear it. Especially in the paragraph where “how I hate what I have become” is sung. And Anette can’t sing those high notes.
I saw Anette live one time only, and it nearly turned me off of seeing Nightwish live. Like so many pop style singers, her voice is best suited for the studio. Her live performance was like nails on a chalkboard, sad to say. With that said, I actually prefer some of her studio performances on a couple of songs over Floor's live renditions of the same. 7 Days to the Wolves comes to mind. Meadows of Heaven. And Anette's Sahara is breathtaking. Still one of my all time Nightwish favorites. And her rather harsh, bright voice is well suited to it. I don't consider her time with Nightwish wasted at all.
Thank you. I think every link in the chain makes for an interesting History for the band and so it is all relevant. I'm New to them and learning, but respect all of the Members for sure.
The Tarja breakup was pretty bad. Many feared NW would stop playing. Then Annette.... The opposite of Tarja voice wise. Good album, fans halfway reconciled....then the Tour..... The old songs did'nt Work, the new songs did'nt Sound good live...
Anette had the voice of my Nightwish. Anette’s voice made Nightwish more accessible to the listeners who found the operatics too much, me included. DPP and Imaginerum are my two favourite albums and the only ones I listen too, and as far as I know still Nightwishes most listened too.

Anette's moments of shining:
Nightwish - Escapist
Nightwish - Turn Loose the Mermaids

Also Slow Love Slow

That doesn't intend to take away from Anette's work, songs like "Eva" "slow love slow" "meadows of heaven" are beautiful in her voice. Still in general, The repertoire of vocal
nuances they could have incorporated with Floor's endless range, would have made, vocally, better albums.
Meadows of Heaven is great indeed. What is Everett?
Eva also.
and Slow, Love, Slow.
Aegon The Dragon indeed.
Thank you
Hey Tim, I hope you are still doing well.
Annette is not a bad singer, her Album songs are good, but Floor & Tarja sounds live outstanding and she get's compared with
I agree Anette is a great singer. All 3 are.
Taja - Operatic,
Anette - Pop
Floor - Hold my wine
:P
Like Scott said:
Tarja - operatic
Annette - pop
Floor - hold my beer instead of wine
Lol.. I'm finding this to be true
I would tend to agree my friend
So much great information. Thank you
@@PositiveCrunch Your welcome! Forgot to mention, that the show Floor entered and completed was of course Wacken 2013. So you already know some songs from there.
u gotta watch nightwish - the islander (live at tampere). and again plz react to beast in black, “blind and frozen”, “from hell with love” and the singers cover of nightwish ghost love score. imma keep requesting it till u do it ^_^
Thanks Luc. I have Beast in Black coming. Hopefully I will get to start filming again this weekend and it will be the first one.
Funny enough many of the most popular songs are from both of the albums featuring Anette. But that has more to do with the musical crafting in those albums than with Anette.
Interesting
@@PositiveCrunch Another point, it might be the case that Floor albums have the lesser number of popular songs, but to be fair those are still very fresh and need time to sink in. Cheers!
Agreed, Floor doing Annette songs seem to be the most popular 🤘
It's like you said, she's not a bad singer it just wasn't the right band for her. However, i do think this song "belongs " to Anette.
I liked your reaction, keep it up!🤘🤘
Thank you
i have been trying to listen to Anette some j ust can not seem to make it through any live videos she just was not suited but although a bit poppy and all head voice this isnt terrible
I get it. The Recorded is imo Good, The live I have seen leaves me a bit let down. It just didn't fit Live. But She is a Talented singer.
Nice video
Thank you
Positive Crunch your very welcome
It is something to see a Band with so much Talent.
now listen to the live version with Floor😁
Will do! Thanks
🤘💜🤘
🤘
I did stop following NW after the messy Tarja thing, and did not like Anette's style. That being said, just few months ago I noticed these reaction videos of NW and decided to check these out. And then I heard Floor for the first time. Glad I did, I'm back from reserves in active duty of NW army. NW sounds now even better with Floor than with Tarja, perfect match made in rock heaven.
Glad you are back! and Glad we found them too
listen to the dark element album of the same name with anette
Thank you Alan
Never been a fan of Annette but I’m glad you’re giving her a fair shot. Meadows of Heaven is my favourite of hers.
All 3 deserves a listen
Stratovarius - Destiny
Thank you
The most viewed Nightwish track...
It's a good one
I'm all allergic to the word "hit song". They are mostly the radio driven singles that rarely are the best songs.
Indeed. You have to hit the deep tracks to find the band in any genre.
Positive Crunch, yep. This is the list of songs played in Radio by Nightwish that are singles:
-Sleeping Sun (Tarja era)
-Wishmaster (Tarja)
-Bless the Child (Tarja)
-Ever Dream (Tarja)
-Nemo (Tarja)
-Wish I Had an Angel (Tarja)
-Eva (Anette)
-Amaranth (Anette)
-Bye Bye Beautiful (Anette)
-Storytime (Anette)
-Elan (Floor)
-Endless Forms Most Beautiful (Floor)
-Noise (Floor)
-How's the heart (Floor)
Annette is very good but not really Nightwish material. Tarja was great but Floor stole the show. It really didn't matter the singer Thoumas has written well for all of them and make the songs work well.
I can totally understand all of that.
I do admit her voice doesn't quite fit the Nightwish sound but since I came so late to the party myself I guess I don't have quite the same bias against her as others do.
She's a great singer. Just a more pop element and not as much operatic movement.
Listen to Annette singing Poet and the Pendulum and Scaretale from Imaginearium album. Those are probably Annette's best ones.
Anette’s version of poet and the Pendulum is so bad after hearing Floor’s version. Floor sings it with emotion and you can hear it. Especially in the paragraph where “how I hate what I have become” is sung. And Anette can’t sing those high notes.
I will check it out
I saw Anette live one time only, and it nearly turned me off of seeing Nightwish live.
Thank you Jane
Annete 🤗 try : bye bye beautiful
Is that Solo or with Nightwish?
@@PositiveCrunch with nightwish
Nasal singing with to much tuning.
I understand why so many Nightwish fans hated/disliked her
Is not just that, her voice just didn't really fit in. A lot of songs were out of the set list because of it.
It's so different. I get it
You should make a comparison video where you compare the version of two different singers and choose the better version you like more.
Hehe, dude, you really want to watch the world burn.
Interesting idea.. Not sure I am ready for that yet. Lol
