I just love these types of games going back to X-Wing and Tie Fighter on PC and the Rogue Squadron series. Flying in VR and a hotas is a dream come true, and the challenge of playing against other humans keeps me coming back. I find myself thinking about fleet battles strategy a lot. I don't see myself getting bored of it for years.

I have 65 hours in and that's only in the story and dogfighting. The core gameplay is fantastic and that is what keeps me in it. I can play the A-wing in a dogfight 100 times and still be engaged when I pull off some badass drift double kill or lose 3 tails by flying through asteroids and dropping bombs as I go. After the match, I always ask myself what other maneuvers I can pull off and start another game.

I’d definitely say the purchase was worth it for me, but as someone who only plays casually with friends, there’s some real whiplash in the multiplayer experience. It seems either my friends and I get matched up with low level players and do really well or against incredibly high level players and get mopped up. Maybe that just speaks to the player base or EA’s matchmaking, but I find it rare to actually get a good, evenly balanced game in. The gameplay and immersion is good enough to keep me coming back but the day it’s just hardcore players left and I can’t get a kill in, that’ll be the day I give up Squadrons. I’m also hoping for a sequel with more longevity though!

If they added an expansion that was similar to Elite Dangerous, then I think it would satisfy both the casual and hardcore fanbase. I think it could work. You play as a freelance pilot, able to either join the imperial remnant, new republic, chiss ascendancy, or some of the major crime syndicates; Black Sun, Hutt cartel, Hapes consortium, etc. Since the outer rim is relatively undiscovered, that leaves exploration to the player to navigate new hyperspace routes. Planetary exploration can possibly be withheld at first, just so they can work on the galaxy mapping, and stuff. In E.D, they had like roles that the players could do, like mining, exploration, bounty hunting, military career, space trucking. I mean now that they have a flight model from squadrons and a fps/tps model from BF, they could combine the two and make that live service game EA has been wanting. For monetization, they could follow, SWTOR's cash shop for like housing or furniture, vanity items.

Game is definitely well worth the money, considering the ridiculously high prices of most games getting this top notch, replayability experience where it doesn't get mundane like an FPS. The market is saturated and gameplay in franchises is just copy paste nothing really new (some changes) but core gameplay is the same, you have to get the next title in the series to keep with the moving player base. I see this game having longevity as this has such a great skill ceiling and it's so fun playing against others with varying degrees of skill. The mechanics of the starfighters is superb, the fact the dev team studied and played the old X-Wing vs TIE Fighter really shows what a passion project this is and it's great to finally have a game like this that stands out from the crowded/saturated and stagnated market we have. Sure you may suck at first and get wrecked by other pilots but that's the fun of it, honing your piloting skills and pulling those maneuvers getting free from your tail then coming back with a vengeance. Don't get put off by thinking you're bad at it. Learning the strengths and weaknesses of each craft and how and when it's best to utilize power management and shielding/shunting sets the bar so high. Gameplay is phenomenal, I recently bought this as I purposefully waited for EA Play to be added to Gamepass, played the trial and now post op surgery can lay in bed recovering, playing endless hours of this having gladly spent money on this. I would pay more hell $30-40 is nothing compared to so called AAA $100+ for the "next COD/BF" I'll be playing this game for years, all it needs is EA to not fuck with it and let the devs continue to support this game with updates. No need for a sequel just let players choose if they want to purchase the clone wars era. Rant over - tldr: best fucking game ever!!!

Aside from content, which I would happily pay for, I think fleet battles should be more substantial. Let's say, in theory, there was a ticket system that was additive based upon the current numbers players get on kills for morale. Up until a predefined threshold of damage on either team's capital ship, the game plays out as it does now with it's phases. Upon reaching that threshold, from sheer desperation the warp drive starts spooling, and once said damage is reached, it "jumps" to another destination, in this case multiplayer map. I'm no expert on canon, but the opposing side would have to find per se, where in the hell the capital ship that fled, jumped to. This is where the ticket system comes in. Based on the numbers given, is how much the fleeing capital ship was repaired during the time it took to be found. This would give the losing team a chance to turn the match around, but not completely discourage the winning team therefore retaining the satisfaction of winning. This would all have to be streamlined somehow with a few extra lines of dialogue, to help distinguish from just loading into another match. In example, opposing team's capital ship jumps, show cutscene of your team jumping to warp (which already exists), switch to also existing first person jump scene from single player with some cheesy Akbar saying "We found them, AND it's a TRAP"! As I said, cheesy lol. Then proceed to sub light to whatever map the game decided, and it begins again with enemy capital in it's predefined state of repair. The more morale your team had in the tickets, the less it was repaired. Defending team's morale numbers would give some sort of defensive advantage like a respawned frigate maybe? Limiting to one jump per match would keep it from dragging on wherein defending team fights to the death, and pursuing team goes all or nothing with either faction's mentality supported by a few more simple lines of dialogue. The finer details of all the "what if's" makes my head hurt, so I'll stop here. Would definitely help reduce the redundancy of going back to main menu after every match also. Why Motive?

This game is pretty good I could see myself playing it for a long time however I do not own the game, I tried it with EA play from Xbox game pass. A good way to try the game is if you have Xbox game pass you get a 10 hour free trial of multiplayer which is really nice.

I'm just now getting in to it more, because I was focused on stuff in Fortnite and Save the World. I do feel like it needs private matches, ranked dogfight, and I hope it stays popular enough for them to think about a 2nd one with a more Game as a Service focus.

    1) I‘m happy with the purchase. Already got more value out of it than I expected, even if I stopped playing today.
    2) Having said that, I do grow weary. I don’t need new holograms & things dangling in my field of vision, I’d like more real content: Maps, Game Modes, ships, etc.
Good, we‘ll get two new ships and a map, so that‘ll keep me going for a while longer.

I was waiting for such a game with a single player experience for years. The X-Wing/TIE-Fighter/X-Wing-Alliance-series are really old (1993/1994/1999) but i still play them with a lot of passion. So i think the same will be for Squadrons with some players.

For me, I played it when it first released. I played several hours but became very frustrated with the controls on my Xbox controller. Before launch when I found out Squadrons supported a HOTAS controller I began trying to obtain one. Apparently, since Microsoft’s summer release of flight simulator they are very hard to come by. I am happy to say that after several months of nearly obsessive searching for one at a reasonable price point mine will be arriving tomorrow. I plan to spend many more hours playing squadrons with my Thrustmaster HOTAS one. I say all that to this point. Once more people in the market have the proper controller for the game that we might see an uptick in hours being played. But that is just my perspective.

At this point the cross play setting shouldn’t even be a setting in the game. Matchmaking is easier with cross play on versus turning it off, waiting for 10 minutes only to be met with an error message.

It was worth it for me, though I am hopeful they do decide to add something to the game that wouldn't take a ton of effort, like unlocking some campaign maps for multiplayer use, or a new mode. I don't feel like they're done balancing either, Support needs to be buffed somehow because they aren't really even worth having on your team IMO

I played it so far only for the Campaing in VR and that alone was worth the 40 Bucks. I played some Multiplayer in the beginning, but that was more pain than fun because of the unbalenced matchmaking(played a bunch of teamdeathmatches where we Lost nearly 30 to 0). i did not come back to the game because i want to play with a premate Squad, but none of my friends are playing. So maybe i come back to play the Campaign again because it is super awesome in VR or i am maybe coming back for the Mulityplayer.

Or maybe, with the approval of Lucasfilm, a old republic DLC (ok that's just wishful thinking, but it would be super cool).

It was definitely worth the purchase. In fact I bought PSVR specifically for this game snd I am very happy with it.
The combat is deep. Mastering all 8 ships and their different loadouts to do well in Fleet Battles is a lot of fun.
The single player campaign is pretty disappointing though. I've played through it twice, and there are a couple of decent missions. But it's pretty uninspired generally and the characters suck. I hate them all. I've had nightmares about them!
Overall, though, Star Wars Squadrons in VR with HOTAS is one of the most exciting gaming experiences available. It's worth getting into. I'll be playing it for months to come.

idk man, I love this game and I've definitely gotten my money's worth, but Ranked matches are unplayable right now. Half the time people leave on my team, and half the time people leave on the enemy team. Either way the match is always scored as normal. And even still it's common to be matched with players with 80hours+ in the same game with level 1-5 players.
I love the game, but only dogfight and FB vs AI are really any fun right now. I desperately want something to save this but I just don't see it happening with EA's attitude toward the game right now. My best hope is maybe they saw enough support for the game to get a Squadrons 2 sometime in the future with more content and eras.

Feeling is great, but.. I won all matches as Empire, half as New Republic (levels were even). If you don't play in squad and cannot use this advantage the balancing is really bad. When playing in Squad its indeed more balanced, but for casuals the DPS and speed of TIEs are much better than shields
