    Many you asked for this video! So here you go! We did a VERY similar video just like this one, about the TIE-Defender. It's causing a fair amount of headaches in pro-play. And Star Wars Squadrons developers have acknowledged it too. So we discuss all of that in the TIE-Defender version of this video, here: ruclips.net/video/3knydIvQ1vw/видео.html

    In order for the B wing to be viable at higher tiers, it must have fighter escort. One or two interceptors to run interference. That and you have to take more care to time your approach, to utilize the Corvette for some cover.
    If you look at the Tie Defender as the hardest ship to pilot individually, you can view the B Wing as the ship that requires the most support from other players. The most advanced from a team play perspective.

    You know, we talk about the B-Wing's hit points like it's super durable but in reality it's really not. 1,600 hull is only 50 more than a stock TIE fighter and those measly 400 shields are less than the (current) A-Wing's 500. Hell, the stock Y-Wing's compliment of an even 1,200 hull and shields already beats out the B-Wing before we even take into account overcharging shields.
    The B-Wing as it stands is a glass cannon, which could be a fine role for it, unfortunately it's literally hamstrung by it's horrendous flight stats. To be clear I really do like the B-Wing's boost and drift abilities, it makes the ship very different to fly than any other and I don't want to fundamentally change that but it needs to meet a middle ground between it's defensive and flight stats if anyone is going to be able to use it at higher levels of play.
    My suggestions for it would be to buff it's shields to at least 600 and double it's acceleration to 100 (which is still the lowest default acceleration in the game), then a sprinkling of maneuverability, somewhere between 55 and 65 (65 would still be the lowest default maneuverability in the game). With these changes the B-Wing would be less of a sitting duck when not actively boosting and drifting and would let it more effectively bring it's offense to bear.
    I'd also like to see tweaks to the gyro/aux , it's movement could stand to be faster. Additionally I'd like it to change to be a toggle or at least for there to be an option for a toggle of the rotation. Holding down the button for the rotation makes it hard to do anything but fly in a relatively straight line while using the gyro feature which more or less negates any evasion benefits of the gyro.

    If you've made a ship unplayable at anything but a beginner level, you need to rebalance the ship. Especially because the Y-wing is basically useless as anything but an AI farmer already. Right now, the X-wing is essentially the do-all Republic fighter unless you're in an A-wing on player killing duty. And with the A-wing getting nerfed again, I expect X-wing usage to go up even more. I get that the X-wing is supposed to be a jack of all trades, but it shouldn't make everything but the U-wing obsolete at their intended role.
    A major buff to B-wing shields could turn this thing into a cap-killing tank that could still be countered if teams started running dedicated ion builds. Also, while I agree that the maneuverability should be bad, the acceleration bleed after drifting feels way too high for the massive engines on the B-wing. My understanding was that the B-wing was basically an interstellar drag racer. Never a dogfighter, but very fast in straight lines to get in, get off a devastating torpedo volley on a capital vessel, and get back out again.

    They could make it so that in tower configuration Yaw is faster and in blade configuration Pitch is faster. 1. it would make the gyro more useful. 2. It would make sense from a physics point of view. 3 it would just look cool to see the B-wing quickly rotate and pirouette along its wing axis. And would give an advantage to people who can master the gyro and to enemies that can read the B-wings movements

    • @cmw12
      @cmw12 3 года назад +1

      I have commented about this same idea. With the B-Wing, is there really pitch and yaw? Just say that yaw is ALWAYS faster, yaw being defined as a rotation around the axis of the main wing. Anyway, I totally agree. Might be tricky to code though and not worth it for Motive. Bombs and hit boxes are one thing, but a gradient of maneuverability based the angle between the axis of rotation and the main wing axis?

    Id like to see its stats across the board except for hull health be increased slightly as well as an increased number of countermeasures when using the gyroscope. Id also like to see ships actually become disabled due to being hit by the bwing and a faster charge rate for its laser cannons.
    In cannon the bwing is a capital ship destroyer and the rebels replacement for the ywings because of its heavy fire power, and shielding with the capability to fight in a dogfight. At the moment it really only fits the fire power part of the picture

    Probably because many players don't really know how to use it. It's super fun to fly, and if you have drifting down you can spin really fast to compensate for the slow turn rate. It functions best if treated like a long range mobile turret. Try it with mines, unstable engine, and either rockets or gyro. It does best in cluttered maps, where you can trick tails into eating mines. In open maps like Yavin IV your best bet is to hang back, use emergency shield, chaingun turret, and rockets with the gyro, and see them before they see you.

    It can be effective on defence in an area like the Zavian Abyss. The tube-like arena means the enemy squadron have further to travel to your capital ship and they don’t really have any flanking options, so you’re set up for a joust which you should always win.
    I might see how it copes in the clouds there and on Yavin too - if HP loss is absolute, then it would be an effective way to get close to the enemy ships without being detected.

    after putting some serious thought into, I think that the high damage output of the b-wing with the rotary cannon + barrage rockets, and the tendency of some players to focus on the mission in the stage of the game, b-wings excel at cruiser defense. a pair of b-wings to handle heavy hitters coming in close and a pair of a-wings dealing with ties using long range weapons and hit and run tactics on your capital and you should be able to directly engage the enemy squadron. hosing down a few tie bombers and/or defenders (and maybe a raider) while your a-wings are chasing off fighters, a team should be able to turn the balance around without over focusing on AI farming.
    I think the range of the b-wing's engagement will always be limited by its lack of speed. without support it's always going to be vulnerable to being picked off by enemy squadrons on offense and the closer it gets to their spawn/repair points and turrets the more that's going to come out.

    The B-wing is a bit of a mixed bag., It strives in, specifically, bomb attack runs having a larger ammo capacity and being able to easily adjust it's strike angle, however bombs aren't very viable. It has all the components for torpedo bombing but has really bad stats for it. It then has a lot of things that would make it an excellent gunship but with no extra range and is almost always under a costly maneuverability penalty.
    What it needs is way to make bombs better and make it be able to point it's fire better. Other than that just giving 400 more shields will help a lot. Also if capital ship shield damage would just count just partially to your score the ion bombs could be viable.

      Except it's inability to fly in more than a straight line for half the time.
      Makes it just as bad against Capital ships as it does fighters.
      The AI on the capital ships is programmed to heavily target players who come at them in a straight line.
      So if you survive a bombing run in this thing.
      You're doing so with something like 25% Hull integrity taking capital ship fire from behind and a fighter is probably lining up on you too.
      It is a rare thing indeed to witness a B wing pull off more than one bombing run.

      No. What we were expecting was what was described for nearly 20 years after Return of the Jedi: A heavily armed and armored fighter/bomber that was designed by Admiral Ackbar himself to be able to deal massive damage to capital ships. It was effectively a mini-gunship.

    I wish they added an agile hull component that just made menerverability better and left the acceleration bad and removed like 30 percent of the hull. I think that would be a fair trade off that would make the b wing better to play with but you need to play smarter.

  • @SangTheCryptek
    @SangTheCryptek 3 года назад

    This would never happen but I feel like a drastic rework of the B-wing would be to flip its stats. Make it incredibly fast in a straight line, to make it the definitive glass cannon in the game. Up its maneuverability a bit, but prioritizing speed and acceleration. Also change what ordnances are available to it and the Y-wing. Now you have a choice between the slow tanky Y-wing bomber, or the superfast B-wing bomber.

    Anyone else feel like the Rebels have underpowered ships? What I mean is the Nebulon B Frigates and MC75 Profundity aren't really Warships. The Nebulons were more of a medical ship and the MC75 was introduced more towards the start of the Rebellion ( if chronologically correct). If this is the New Republic then they should have New Republic era ships, like the Corona class frigate or the MC 75 Barracuda for the frigate and a MC 90 or MC80b Remonda Capital ships. Those were intended for battle and a lot stronger than what they got now. Thats just my personal opinion though.

When you have such powerful following munitions and a huge and slow-turning target, the result is... Boom!

    I don't really know if i can get into only play this type of style space sim, though all ships have a set max speed agility set ( which i like btw)
    I much rather see a B-wing perform like a X-wing, but its size is what makes it more vulnerable. (side is long vertical, back/front is long sleek, this is thing which already i see which is always same hitbox tactic in this game.)
    In what i understand of ships and there roll, the B-wing is a multi versatile medium fighter/bomber to replace the Y-wing.
    If you want it to be better in high tier map class , then you have to allow specifically for high tier maps a broader spectrum of skills as an advancement. No tweaking no nerfing, just edition and adjustments.

    I'll just leave a comment, as a former top-40 United States pilot and the former Squadron Leader of Firaxa Squadron, who made it to the top-8 of Aces Open.
    The B-Wing is in a nutshell: Crap and reliant on escorts to complete its goals, unlike even the Y-Wing. It had an extremely weak shield and next to no real high speed agility. Even after reworks, it was easy pickings for the meta's leading vessels at the time: The TIE Defender, which... could basically do every job better.
    The B-Wing could certainly boost a while, but it wasn't very good at the meta defining Boost Skipping, Gasping, and so on. It also wasn't really able to Dead Drift very well.
    Its rotary cannon was good and its gimmick Composite Ion beam actually won my team a match during Season 1 of Squadrons Competitive League (I still have the patch from Season 1!)
    Before the first patch for it, it was actually becoming pretty deadly, as it could fire its rockets twice as fast as any other vessel if you had gyros, but unfortunately that got patched out - in this moment it was almost a strictly better dogfighter than my multi-role ship of choice, the X-Wing.
    Some might remember the X-Wing I flew, a "Heavy Interceptor" loadout I flew, which definitely contributed to my callsign "Dodger" being validated, haha. The B-Wing nearly took me out of the X-Wing's cockpit but... It just didn't survive various updates. So yeah. I stayed in my X-Wing.
    The B-wing just wasn't ever very sufficient. We once saw one squadron use a twin B-Wing + resupply tactic to absolutely brutalize the frigates, but unfortunately it was never very useful in the capital phase. It sure as Hel can't do a Vander Sloop.
    NOTE: I JUST saw this video is over a year old. Oh well. Take a Squadrons Veteran's thoughts.

    The bonus effect of the Gyro doubling your bombs and halving your cooldowns is a great bonus, but useless if you can't get TO the fight alive or survive to use all those munitions. As it is, it feels like a suicide bomber, just get there however you can, drop as much as you can, and then die because you couldn't get out of range and regen any shields or health. I would rather the Gyro double your range than number of bombs so you don't have to fly into the gates of hell to fire a torpedo, or be just a bit farther from the target when you drop bombs so you can start to escape. The ONLY defensive option the B wing gets is the shield that protects you for 3 seconds, but if you use that, then there is zero reason to use the Gyro. It is a glass cannon with no survivability that 100% depends on team support to be effective if the enemy team knows how to target you.

    • @Sumguyinavan_

    I too love playing the B-Wing. It's just so unique among the other fighters, and doesn't even feel like a fighter, but an actual gunship.
    But a) it's not as tough as a quintessential gunship ought to be. Even with all that hull, it gets picked apart by faster more nimble ships easily.
    And b) I don't even play pvp competitively, but the AI aim bots have a field day from max range. So it's difficult.
    I used to wonder why not a single B Wing survived the Battle of Endor in RtJ. Now I know.

  • @alecsmall4409

    I dogfight often in the B-Wing, but my decision to use it almost exclusively depends on the map. It's useless on dense maps like Galitan or Nadiri, because it needs range to be effective and you're more likely to crash. I run it with reflec hull, because it's better in my experience to not be as targetable, as once you are in an enemy's sights, you're dead.
    On maps like Esseles and Fostar, it's ideal. It has enough cover to be viable, but lots of open space to make use of your 1k range on primary. I like to hang back, and target at range. In terms of secondaries, i run rockets and seeker mines. I know I'm going to die more in this ship, so there's no need to worry about ammo, the rockets are good for jousts and short range, the mines arr great for revenge kills. As soon as someone starts shooting me, I drop the mine and try and boost for the joust, often the enemy will fly into the mine as they are going too fast to avoid it. Shields are a no brainer in the B-Wing. You run the resonant shield, no decay and any power into the weapons generates overpower. That means you can leave full power in the engines almost the whole time to generate the boost you will be rinsing. General plan is to engage at range, line up shots on ships who don't even know you're coming, and win jousts by boosting to line up and rinsing with enhanced DPS. Dropping a mine as you line up the joust means that if you die, they probably will too.
    I'm not an amazing player, but using this, I can usually get a 2:1 ratio KD, and 7-8+ kills a match.

    • @brentphillips9965
      @brentphillips9965 2 года назад

      That's interesting, because I find Nadiri and Galitan to be great B-Wing maps in dogfight. It's easier to lose your tails because of the B-Wing's drift-spin, and with gyro you can bulk up on mines and drop them around corners of asteroids so your tails won't see them as easily.
      Plus thanks to the ion damage you can wipe out a fighter quickly with the chaingun if you sneak up on them and start revving it before they emerge from the other side of asteroids.

    • @Wedgekree
      @Wedgekree 3 года назад +2

      Yeah, the B-Wing was better than the Y-Wing in almost all aspects in the EU (well, depending on what source you read - the WEG books had it being slower and less maneuverable, the X-Wing games treated it as superior in all categories, the novels were somewhat mixed). The EU admittedly did treat it as the New Republic went on something they went to take as thier primary bomber and the main reason they kept Y-Wings in service in large numbers was simply how many of them there were and the inability to make B-Wings and train pilots for them in large enough numbers.

Too big, too slow, too lightly armored for how it works since it can't access stuff like an assault shield without giving up it's gimmick, and without the gyro gimmick doubling secondary ammunition and bumping ROF, the starfighter serves basically no point. At least the TIE Defender's gimmick in the game, the APS, is legitemately good and useful as all hell and in the right hands makes you borderline unkillable. There's not really anyway to make a B-Wing usable unless your opponents are just plain bad.

    Yeah, the B-Wing is the space equivalent of World of Warplanes’ Heavy Fighters & such.
    I know people are going to exclaim “but the P-38 is faster than the P-51”, but the P-51 can make sharper turns than the P-38.
    Because G. Lucas used WW2 dogfighting as his basis for starfighter combat, all starfighters must first get their initial stats from real world history & then apply it to space. Thus any ‘bomber’ that doesn’t drop bombs, focused more on forward facing ordinances, i.e. anti-capital ship (anti-bomber IRL), is actually a heavy fighter. The Y-Wing is more of a GAP (ground attack plane) because it can focus its ordnances to be projected downward & such.
    I trust that the Galactic Empire could have Axis equivalents & such…

    Idk what your talking about lol. I wreck in the BWing. Yeah she is slow, but using the jet engine helps. I have numerous times wiped out both frigates a single phase granted im playing with my squad and they are screening well.

    Perhaps there'd be better results if you didn't fly fly like a blinded starling in a dryer?
    I mean, sure...it's a big target, but even an A-wing would be fed it's teeth if flying only in straight lines or trying to collision-kill a Star Destroyer...

    Now I know why X-Wing series players had a hard time with the B-Wing expansion pack and why TIE Fighter players enjoyed shooting them down...

      The BoP B-wing was waaaay better in dogfights than the Squadrons one

      @@dreddnott Oh, a X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter player. Haven't seen any of you for a while.
      So, what makes you say this?

      @@michaelandreipalon359 Better maneuverability, speed, shields, and a normal missile/torpedo loadout. Only real downside that I recall is the giant hitbox

      @@dreddnott Ah, I can see that. Thanks, and seriously, I don't see much XWvs.TF players these days. X-Wing and TIE Fighter players, yes, but not that game.

    I personally love this ship! I found it hard to find my niche with my team but this ship was MADE for my playstyle 8c ) I'm a huge fan of Everspace and this one handles most like the ships in that game to me on controller.

      @´°` Gyro plus beam makes you much harder to hit when attacking capital ships. Plus if you stack mobility buffs while taking the rotary cannon, you can at least heavily deter fighters from attacking you 😎👍 Great for fleet battles 👌
