    Just ordered the Blackjack Tire Repair Kit after viewing your video. I had a screw in MY 20" tire after I performed a rotation and paid Grismer Tire $50 to fix it. Now I can do these on my own. Great video!

    I am impressed with your use of wheel stud guides. Im not a mechanic, but hearing grinding on the stud threads can not be ok.

    I’ve used a similar product/procedure for years. Never had a problem either. Thx.

    Thank you very much. A clear and informative how to. As a new Tesla owner - I am still getting used to the "there's no spare wheel".
    Will be getting a tyre repair kit today, and am now looking for my jack.
    Do you carry a a portable jack on trips? if so what do you recommend?

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  10 месяцев назад

      Good question! We don’t travel with a jack, but from a quick bit of research, most scissor jacks are rated for 3 tonnes, which isn’t really safe for a 3 or Y. You might want to check out modernspare.com, they carry a 4T version which when just lifting a corner of the car should be more than enough. You can also buy a ‘donut’ wheel from them, if you’re relly worried about getting a flat in the middle of nowhere.

    Hi Pete! Today’s video was extremely useful and I really appreciate you showing me the left handed way of straddling a tire! I have a cheap repair kit that I haven’t had to use yet, but I will look into yours instead. Do you keep the torque wrench in the car? I know that the torque spec is extremely high in Teslas.

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  2 года назад +1

      I don't, but probably should. The regular wrench is probably good enough for a road trip, hopefully will never need it...fixing a tire in a relatively cool garage is a lot easier than at the roadside!

    Question please. Would you attempt this plug if the puncture is towards the edge of the threads? I mean far end of the tyre threads

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  Год назад +1

      I think most shops will refuse to repair if the puncture is within an inch of either edge of the tire. Unless it's an emergency, I'd probably follow the same guidance, but if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, you gotta do what you gotta do! I've seen some crazy pics on the internet where many plugs had been used to close up a puncture; nothing you'd want to go racing on, but if it lets you limp home or to a tire shop, then so be it.

    When I bought my Tesla I laughed in the guy's face when he threw the "70% of cars in the junk yard never used their spare tire" and immediately made myself a spare with tools to change it.
    Until these cars connect via starlink, selling this car without a spare tire should be illegal. Seattle roads have so much crap, I get a flat from a nail at least every other year.

    Very useful. Just taken delivery of my Tesla. A few years ago I had a lot of punctures so every car since then I put Puncturesafe in the tyres. With foam inserts I couldn't get the Puncturesafe in and was wondering what I should do. I'm thinking of carrying a 'get you home' spare and after watching your video doing the repair myself. I've also ordered a similar jack and pucks. On the other hand I'm thinking why bother with a spare as with normal punctures just take a tyre inflator pump to get the pressure up so that I can get home. What do you think?

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  Год назад +1

      Yeah, that's pretty much what we do. If a puncture is bad enough to cause a fast deflation, then a repair kit probably won't fix it anyway, but all of many, many punctures in the Tesla's have been screws/nails that are slow. We travel with the repair kit, and DeWalt tire inflator in the car.

    Hi Pete. Great video.
    Just got a flat in my TM3P 20" and thinking of following your steps, BUT these kits are mostly sold for emergency or roadside repairs. What are your considerations for "spirited driving" or track use after a couple of these repairs? Kind regards, Michael.

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  Год назад +1

      Hi Michael. I'm not sure how many repairs I've made to our Tesla's since making this video, but it's several, and it's never caused any kind of issue. Track use might be something else, but if you have a Tesla, isn't every drive 'spirited' 😁

    Pete, I have a question: If I buy your mini pry bar, does that take the place of having the needle nosed pliers? Thank you so much, Mitchell

    • @AbstractOcean
      @AbstractOcean  2 года назад +1

      It might? The mini pry is always my go-to tool, but, a person can never have too many tools, so there’s plenty of pliers lying around too!

      @@AbstractOcean What is the overall length of your pry bar? The one that you selected from Amazon is 11” long and it is not as thin on the ends like yours to be able to get under those thin nail ends. I’ll keep it around my house anyway, but I would love one that is more like yours.
