  • There has been a lot of misinformation about repairing Tesla tires and other EV tires with sound suppression foam. The good news is that like any other tire, sound suppression tires can be repaired. TECH developed a process for repairing sound suppression tires that adheres to the Tire Industry Association (TIA)’s guidelines for proper tire repair. What follows is an overview of the process.
    We have developed a simple acronym to remember the steps of our proper tire repair process.
    R: Remove the Tire From the Wheel.
    E: Evaluate the Injury
    P: Prepare the Injury
    A: Apply Vulcanizing Fluid (a.k.a. Cement)
    I: Install the Repair
    R: Return the Tire to Service

    I am Tech with 30yrs experience. Was curious how Tesla tires were repaired. I had to comment as this is one the clearest, comprehensive, concise videos I think I have ever watched. Kudos!

      This is a more involved process than the typical tire. But it is possible to repair and ultimately help you get the full life from your tires.

    Is it possible to plug a puncture on a tire with sound-deadening foam from the outside with TECH's permacure inserts during an emergency repair? Or will the foam lining get in the way?

    • @TECHTireRepairs
      @TECHTireRepairs  Месяц назад

      Great question!
      A temporary/emergency repair with a Permacure would still work on a sound suppression tire. When you probe the tire and/or when you apply the cement with the spiral tool, you will puncture the foam. This will give the necessary space for the Permacure to go through the tire. Even if the probe did not puncture the foam, you should still be able to install the Permacure without the foam preventing the repair from going completely through the tire. This would simply result in the installation tool puncturing the foam or the foam getting pulled away from the inner liner. Hope that helps!

    She forgot to add one of the most important “non-repairable conditions” which are “bad drivers”. When I was in charge of fleet tire repair, the worst thing for sidewall damage to truck tires were new drivers - 😂

      While understandable; that's beyond our skill set. We can only help once the tire has been damaged and deemed repairable.

    So for the tacky sound suppression foam, the UL6 just gets stitched to the glue from the foam after prep?

    • @TECHTireRepairs
      @TECHTireRepairs  Год назад +1

      That is correct... If the adhesive is tacky, then yes, the repair would be stitched directly to the adhesive. The tackiness of the adhesive will hold the repair in place. That type of adhesive can also be extremely difficult to remove in order to apply the repair to the inner liner.

    When do you use 739??

      You would use it to seal the edge of the repair once it was been properly stitched.

    I asked a tire shop how they patch Tesla tires with foam. They told me they take out the entire foam liner.

    • @TECHTireRepairs
      @TECHTireRepairs  3 месяца назад

      We recommend only removing the section of foam where the hole; as the foam will be getting placed back inside the tire. Seems like a lot of extra un-necessary work to remove all of it. Did they give a reason as to why they remove all of the foam?

    Sorry....you lost me when you continued to use the word 'injury' to reference 'damage' to the tire. It's unfortunate that there isn't a 'd' in 'Repair'.....but maybe you could have used a different acronym.
