New drinking game: drink every time Mike says "Guys" 😂
That’s a new one! Happy drinking!
@@MikeSeuss it did make me twitch a bit after a while each time I heard that word !! But I persevered as the content was so good 😊
OMG, I would have been on the floor in the first 2 minutes!😂
It’s about 8 guys/minute
@@gielfrederic That's what she said...
I am a new owner (6 weeks) there was about 14 tips I didn't know about, thanks Mike for putting this video together.
Welcome!
How do you like it so far?? Still waiting for mine…
@@Fleurde321 Since buying my 3, I bought a Y six months ago, love both of them so now I am down to 1 ICE vehicle. BTW I have been to the gas station twice in the past 12 months once to fill up the gas to sell one of my ICE cars and 1 other time when I was vacationing in Florida. I think you will love it and you probably will wonder why you didn't buy one sooner, have fun!
2nd that. I'm a week in and living every drive, whether i drive or my tesla does 😮
I consider myself a very knowledgeable owner with my Tesla. No joke I learned 4 things out of this. Thanks so much for this video. You did an amazing job covering and explaining the information. Thanks!!!
Glad I could help! Part 2 coming soon!
Same!
I’ve had my model 3 for 2 years now. I clicked on the video thinking to myself “Yeah I likely will know 19 of these but hopefully one of them is new”.
Mate.
Literally 12 of them I never knew about and were very helpful. Thank you so much for humbling me
No problem, i also have a part two with 20 more!
For going home, another quick function I use is just pressing the right button on the steering wheel and saying, “go home”. Works really well. I also use that function to verbally give addresses.
Nice
...or just "home" will do it.
8:14 One thing to note about the parking brake. If you're driving down the street, hitting that button does nothing (car is smart enough to not go into park while you're driving). However, if you hold down that button, the car WILL engage the parking brake which will stop you suddenly. A few years ago I lost my Model S to Sudden Unintended Acceleration and when we bought the X my wife wanted to know how to stop the car in case that ever happened again. That's when we were told about the "hold the park button" feature. We actually tested it in a parking lot (only while creeping forward) before we bought the X.
Nice! thanks for this.
Yeah, I accidentally stumbled upon this while driving and was imagining that my breaks wouldn't work then it hit me to try park brake, but that did only warning that it is not available while driving. So I hold it a bit and then it started to brake, so I released it and it released itself, so you have to hold it to continuously brake.
Mike, I’ve had my Tesla for about 6 weeks and have watched a lot of videos. The following were all NEWS to me. Charge port, lower auto pilot, navigate home fast and phone widget. Thanks very much!
No problem, make sure to go watch part two which has 20 more tips!
Thanks for the tips. I knew the most of them but did learn something new.
If you step on the brake while doing a reset, as you mentioned, it will do a “hard reset”. It’s more “low level” than the soft one 😀
Thanks for sharing
Just an FYI; The parking brake is always automatically applied when in Park. The red icon indicator only is shown when placing in park manually, despite always being engaged while in park. This is useful if you want to apply the brake when not in park. This is noted in the manual.
Thanks for this info!
Parking mode doesn't matter if car is in "crepe" mode when u parked facing downhill. It will roll a little downhill as soon as you take it off the brakes. Please mention in your videos to change from that "crepe" mode when on slopes. Thank you!
Once you open car door, it goes from hold to park with red P displaying.
@@ericajet10 Yes! But when you put it back on drive or reverse when facing downhill, the car is slowly rolling forward & can potentially hit the car in front of you. It freaked me out so much, that I had to wait till the car in front of me left.
@@freethinkeralways"Crepe"? What does wrinkled fabric have to do with a drivimg mode?
I’ve had my Model Y for 2 years now and didn’t know about half of the features you covered. Well done! Thank You.
No problem!
How about the famous RTFM ?
I’m watching this video and I don’t even have a Tesla
You will!
@@MikeSeuss I’m not even old enough to drive but thx for the inspiration lol
Lol😂😂😂😂😂
Excellent! So many useful things I did not know! We’ve had our Y 2 years. The headlights quick trick, the “slide” for temperature and volume, sharing address from phone to Tesla, the charge port release strap!! Holy cow!! Live sentry and talking through cars speakers. Fun. Now I can really freak people out. 😂Thank you!
Haha, Enjoy!
Something you didn’t include is the live sentry mode is only enabled if you pay for premium connectivity. Does not work without it even if you’re on WiFi sadly 😢
Oh man, thanks for this comment, I should have disclosed this!
I have premium but I don’t have live mode!
I do not have this live sentry mode feature in the app anymore either! I even asked the Tesla technician and he didn’t know. Idk why they took it away, it was so helpful.
Great video, Mike! You may want to incorporate the ability to change or display things using Voice Command, wipers, lights, tire pressure, Navigate to, the list is expanding everyday and is quite useful.😅
Working on a video specifically for voice commands, stay tuned!
Voice command for lights? I tried variations of “turn on headlights” (because they don’t come on automatically with windshield wipers) to no avail.
Speaking of display settings: is there any way to adjust the font size for apps and menus on the screen?
Voice commands video is here! ruclips.net/video/UmWHcR1wpLQ/видео.html
I have owned my Tesla for 11 months and you showed me more in 20 minutes than Tesla did when I bought it! All new to me and all good!
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for part two!
Thanks for a super succinct, high value video. I knew about 50% of the tips, had forgotten others and learned a few great new ones. Some favs: 1 charging cord emergency release. 2. Large Tesla app icon that displays location and battery charge range. 3. Editing the four default settings at top of Tesla app. 4. The ability to adjust lights, temperature, volume etc via a touch/hold/drag motion.🚘
Make sure to check out part two!
It's about time someone makes a video with more than those 10 or so hidden features that everyone already knows. Great video!
Haha I’m happy to be that guy!
I learned some stuff and I have read the manual end to end! Particularly the charge emergency release toggle. On my 2022 Y it is slightly differently located, but I found it quite easily (now Mike has alerted me to its existence!)
I don’t see it in the Y
@@artharb2119 There is a hole under the horizontal trim immediately behind the tail light assembly. Feel around and when you find it reach in with your fingers and you can snag the fabric loop. There is no light or ventilation slots as shown in the video, just a trapezoidal hole, but roughly in the same place.
@@john_hind thank u I found it
Mike! I cannot thank you enough for some of these but for me, the Tesla Widget is king for me. So nice to unlock, open Frunk, ....... just by opening my phone and not swiping around and launching the Tesla app. Huge life improvement for me. I especially like that you narrate as you do without any extra (confusing when trying something for the first time) words or distractions. Awesome!
Glad you enjoyed! You’re welcome
My husband and I are psyched about this tip too!😊
Thanks Mike. There is also a way to get into service mode (only recommend for small fixes, always use Tesla service center).Go to controls & hold the Model 3 down & type in service, then follow prompts you desire. I only used this to check the health of my 12V battery.
Thanks for this
@@MikeSeuss 👍🏽 let me know how it goes.
Great video. Sending addresses was a new one for me. Also like the Tesla widget for the phone. Makes it easier to honk the horn when you're lost in a parking lot! I wonder how many owners don't know all the things you can do by voice. Like changing the climate settings, turning the seat heaters on and off, give navigation instructions, change the wiper speed, etc. Less distracting than trying to play with the screen while driving.
I will make a full video on voice commands soon! Stay tuned!
As promised, the voice commands video is out now! ruclips.net/video/UmWHcR1wpLQ/видео.html
Instead of poking the screen, which I try to avoid while driving, you can hold the autopilot(right) stalk down for a second while autopilot(or cruise control) is active to switch to the current speed limit.
It will also add or subtract the offset you have selected in the autopilot menu.
Nice one thanks for this!
Do be aware though, that your car won't immediately change to this speed. If there's a law enforcement officer, he likely will catch your current speed and not this set speed. You'd have to hit your brakes to slow down quick enough to avoid a ticket.
I just do a quick flick of the right scroll wheel downward.
@@Pehz63 This. No reaction is faster than hitting the brakes.
Great job.. I’m aware of a few of the tips, but its great to hear them again from you! On adjusting the height of your rear truck or hatch, you can open and then manually raise or lower to the desired height, then set it as you instructed. Great job!
Yikes, I Forgot to mention that!
Thanks! That's what I came to the comments to ask about. Getting it to go back up if you stop it short. Thanks to both of you.
@@MikeSeuss The Model Y hatch opens up way higher than the Model 3. I'm only 5' feet tall and I have to really stretch on my tippy toes to shut this. When my hands are full, I've been opening the driver door and hitting the close button on the monitor. So, I'm very thankful for this super helpful tip!
Happy to help!
I knew most of them. The most useful ones, that I didn't know, were: the phone home screen widget, and the strap to unlock the charge port. 👍🏼 Some I already knew, but You reminded me to turn them ON were: Joe Mode and to set my Truck Height limit (to never take a chance of hitting the shelves in my garage if I back it in).
Glad I could help! Check out part two for 20 more features!
Love the trunk freeze feature. The first week I had my Y, I opened the trunk in an underground parking garage, and it hit a sprinkler pipe...immediate scratch on the tailgate. Wish I knew the trunk opened that far and that there was a way to stop it. Thx.
Also, I love the charge port emergency release feature. That might be a life saver.
Thanks for the tips!
Not a problem!
I feel Tesla should warn their customers for the default height and rear clearance distances of the Trunk during delivery, and how to set these upon parking it in the garage for the first time. I too had my trunk door scratched as it hit the raised garage door while open. It is a sad because my Acura RDX also parked in the same garage have lower heights and rear clearance for its trunk door, and I assumed wrongly that Tesla would as well.
Very cool features! The best one is the swipe up on autopilot.
That’s definitely a good one!
@@MikeSeuss - too bad it doesn't work everywhere. In Australia, they disabled that so you must wiggle the steering wheel to get the autopilot nag to go away.
@@ant_picard same in Germany. This cool function is disabled
@@ant_picard My issue is I have to move it soo hard it becomes disabled and I have to reset it. I drive from Texas to CA frequently, and this helps tremendously!
One thing about making changes in the car. Make sure you are in your personal profile mode if you want the changes to be effective each time you drive. I noticed in the video that you were in Easy Entry mode when you were demonstrating certain features. Unless you drive in Easy Entry mode, those changes will not take effect when you go to your personal profile.
Totally right
I’ve been watching a bunch of videos for the last couple hours as a new Tesla owner and this is the first one where I’m actually learning things lol
Awesome, there's also a part two with 20 more features!
What you are advising and the information that you are giving to us all is truly appreciated!!! Thank you so mich
You’re welcome!
Here are some hidden features I wish were there:
1. Synthetic 'drone view' of the car and its surrounds. Other manufacturers do this with far lesser cameras, so why not Tesla?
2. Forward looking flank view like the reversing camera view, but looking forward. Useful when maneuvering forward in tight spaces like parking or entering garage.
3. Interior view camera viewable from the app. Would be useful if you leave (older) kids or pets in the car.
4. Family keys without the ability to drive the car. Sync the kids phones so they can get in and out and work the entertainment and comfort systems, but cannot drive the car. (OK PIN to drive, but that is a pain for the legit drivers).
5. One-time Scheduled Departure. You can set a scheduled departure time so it tops off the charge and preconditions ready for that time. But you can only set this for every day or every weekday and have to remember to cancel it or it does it again next day.
6. A proper 'blended' driving mode. Like 'Hold' except it uses the friction brake if not enough force is available from regenerative braking. It should have a consistent acceleration/deceleration to peddle position mapping independent of battery charge state or slope of road.
7. Configurable 'distance tolerance' around speed limit changes for warnings. At the moment the limit changes instantaneously as the car passes the sign. Human drivers start to speed up when they see a sign increasing the limit but only start slowing down as they pass the sign reducing it.
8. An accelerator 'dead zone' around the current speed limit. This would be a less intrusive way to alert the driver to speed limit violations rather than a sounder.
These are all great, if you have Twitter tweet this to elon, he replys to lots of people and considers adding things to the tesla from feedback! You never know!
Great wishlist! I only want to have live am radio & keyknob to open trunk with one finger & without entering phones PW while holding bags with groceries in both hands.
Interior view camera is on the new software update under the pet/dog feature
So many helpful tips in this video. From the manual charge pot unlock to the Widget. I may need to watch this video again to remember everything. I also like the better theater option too… maaaaann. I’m excited to test the swipe gestures too. Thanks !
Haha have fun!
Right you are.
Damn, that AutoPilot dismiss is awesome. I hated grabbing the steering wheel since sometimes I would have to fight the wheel to get it to register, but it would cause me to turn into the next lane
Yup same here
Lots of good tips, but the one I'm most grateful for is how to release the charge port. I had already had a couple of scares when it didn't come out right away. Now I have a fail safe!
Glad it helped!
Great video. For emergencies or if the door open button doesn’t work, there’s a manual release to open doors. It’s located on that area forward of the window buttons where it curves downward in a smooth wedge, between the door and the door handle. Place your fingers to grip the wedge and pull up. Door will open. Tesla will display a message saying manually opening doors might confuse or damage window or door sensors so do this only when needed.
👍🏾👌🏾
It is an emergency door opener only, because it will destroy the rubberseal on the top of the window after a few uses! This is because the window don't go down an inch like it usually does when opening the door with the normal button.
Exactly! The Tesla is basically a commuter on wheels. What do you do if you have a problem with your computer? You reset it. Do what he showed you and it will fix most problems. BUT keep your foot off the brake pedal (that will do a hard reboot).
👍🏾👌🏾
Excellent advice. I have owned a Tesla for 4 years and there were 5 of your items that I did not know. One you did not mention is that you can quickly change the speed by spinning the right wheel up or down. The speed changes to the next even 5 mph. For example a spin down takes 71 to 75 down to 70 mph.
Thanks, will make sure to mention this in part two! Stay tuned there’s a lot of really good ones
Thanks for the info.
Two additions/corrections.
1) Holding 2 scroll wheels doesn't reboot the car, it just reboots the screen. To reboot the car, you need to press the brake pedal and hold the scroll wheels at the same time.
2) Holding the parking button does exactly the same thing as tapping it. Holding the button while already in park will just reapply the brakes, hence the sound you hear.
The only difference between holding and tapping is that the former puts the parking brake icon on your screen. Weird.
Thanks
Are you really sure about your no. 2)? Everybody I know, says exactly the same what Mike said about the parking break.
I heard from Tesla that holding the brake down with the scroll wheels doesn't do anything more then just the scroll wheels. Was a myth. I can never tell a difference so I just use the scroll wheels now like Tesla said.
🤔
Extremely thorough video. Took 2 months with the car to find some of these feature out. Learned some new tricks. Thanks for posting all these tips!
Glad it was helpful!
A true hidden feature is that you have 5 shortcut icons / quick controls in the app and not just 4. Would highly recommend not having the large size widget unless you want to accidentally open doors etc when swiping on your Home Screen. I got an alert that my trunk had been left open, sentry mode even showed trunk seeming to open on its own. Turns out it was an accidental press on the widget.
Yeah this is the best one ive found out after making this video, wish I knew this one beforehand!
Maybe put it on a second screen of your phone? Seems like it would still be faster than opening the app. I am going to try it so that I have a quicker access to opening the frunk for groceries.
Some people have added up to 8 shortcut icons. The best thing to do is rearrange them so you don't hit something that is critical accidentally.
@@sdelrosario1 goodness, how? I can't even get a fifth one added on my iphone 12 pro max. I've tried and tried.
@@trenacook228 There are videos on it. It is hard to get it. You have to go to the far right just enough to add them but not 'cancel' it. It is tricky.
Thank you for the great tips Mike!. Another useful tip is when in AP, and you need to adjust your "car following" distance, you can use the left scroll button left or right to adjust it. Pull to the left to increase this distance and to the right to reduce it. At higher speeds I found it more comfortable when I set this at the farthest settings and when traffic starts to slow down, I shorten this distance to minimize people cutting me off.
Great tip!
Thank you for a great video……. I have now subscribed and looking for future videos.
Thank you from Scotland
Add about 1 car length for ever 10 MPH of speed for the best feel. 1 car length for 10 MPH, 2 for 20, 3 for 30, etc.
This “ Guy” would drive me insane if I had to listen to him for any period of time. Thanks ” Guys” .
@cameronizatt3293 thanks for watching as long as you did guy!
Very nice video, Mike!!
I've found at least 12 different ways to cancel the Autopilot warning on our 2017 MS.
The right scroll wheel UP you showed is one of them. A few of the others are: right scroll wheel DOWN or IN, left scroll wheel UP or DOWN or IN, cruise stalk UP or DOWN. 👍😉
Thanks!
Non of this works for me. Just changes the traget speed and volume.
I noticed you don't have pin to drive turned on, that's a must have for me. Great video! I've had mine 8 months and still learning new tricks, the Y is beyond amazing.
Good feature but Too much time for me! And I agree the MY is awesome
Literally takes me 3 secs to input a 4 digit code. Considering the few times I have accidentally left my phone in the car, it’s a worthwhile feature for security.
Good one!
Thanks for the vid! Something helpful for Tesla Service Center is toggling voice command and saying “Bug report” whenever something doesn’t work in your Tesla. It’ll let them search through the lines of code to find where your potential problem is to troubleshoot!
Great tip!
Also holding the car icon in the lower left corner will do a bug report. I have used it to report much phantom braking & misread speed limit signs.

Hi Mike. We just had our Model Y last June 26th. I’m fortunate to watch your video regarding 20 hidden Tesla features. Thank you so much and I learned a lot from them. I have a question. Can you schedule schedule to start charging at a certain battery percentage? For example, when it’s plugged in and it would only start to charge when it’s down to 20%. I appreciate it. Thanks!
Wow man good for you i got mines on 22 june 2023
Congrats on your new Model Y, and I’m thrilled to hear you found the video on hidden Tesla features helpful! 🎉🚗
Regarding your question about scheduling charging based on battery percentage: as of the last information available to me in January 2022, Tesla does allow scheduled charging but it’s based on time, not battery percentage.
Unfortunately, as of now, there isn't a feature that allows the vehicle to automatically begin charging when it hits a certain battery percentage. Once plugged in, the vehicle will charge until it reaches the set charge limit and will maintain that level as long as it’s plugged in.
Thanks for making this video. I'm picking up my new Model Y in a few days, and after driving a Prius for 14 years I'm feeling overwhelmed, but you give some super straightforward tips that help so much!
Congrats and I'm glad I could help! I have a lot of helpful videos for new Tesla owners, make sure to check em out!
@@MikeSeuss Thanks, I will!
While I knew about the majority of these feats, I didn't know about the "live sentry" capabilities. Very cool and informative vid!
😀
Live sentry mode requires premium connectivity
@@gamaned2904 Ah, and that's why I can't find the feature in my app. Drat.
How much does premium connectivity cost?

Thanks, Mike, and go CLT! Learned 5 new things after several years of owning. Helpful tips!
Right on! Check out part two for 20 more tips!
Very useful tips. I like the way that you just went right to the tip without a lot of fluff.
Thanks!
I didn't know it was possible to say guys 17,945 times in 20 minutes. Has to be a world record.
I Hope I get an award!
Thanks Mike, that widget suggestion sent me on a 20-minute reorganization and clean-up of my iPhone apps 😂
Haha
Awesome. I learned a lot. You can turn off the climate by just pressing on the scroll button which has Bluetooth audio
Great tip!
Another thing to add to the rebooting of the screen. You can still drive the car and reboot the screen at the same time! You will not hear things like the turn signals or any other sounds but the car is still working and is able to drive. I believe even things like autopilot will remain engaged as well.
That’s helpful to know, thanks!
I was driving along the highway in AP while the screen was rebooting and the car took a quick right turn into a rest stop and had a cigarette. Be safe out there!
I watch so much Tesla content and I’m halfway through the vid and already learned a couple new things. Not even a Tesla owner yet but it’s my dream car so hopefully soon! Thanks for the great content. Def subscribing 🙌
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Good luck achieving getting a Tesla. It is a great goal to have.
Some I discovered randomly but helpful stuff discovered emergency braking today.
If you’re driving and you press that same button it will engage the emergency brakes
👍🏾
I've had a tesla for 3 years and I had no idea about these. Thanks dude!
No problem! Make sure to watch part two for more!
Thanks bro! I just got it delivered, and I spent quite some time on the console exploring today. And yet, some of your tips were useful. And I appreciate that your video was also pretty concise.
Congrats!
Good video Mike, found a few I didn't know. Question: If you open your app it causes additional battery drain (important if you're on vacation and don't want to come home to a dead battery at the airport). Does having the widget basically have the same effect all the time? Is it like leaving the app up 24/7?
Yes unfortunately the Tesla widget will contribute to battery drain

Mike an excellent video simple and well presented. Everyday is a school day!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the content!
thank you for this video. Very useful for a young 81 year old that just a new tesla. Claire, from Montreal, canada
Welcome and congrats!
Thank you for this awesome video, I was so frustrated on how to open passenger door while I am sitting inside waiting for my husband to get it and all the other tips that you show on the video were great. The one thing we don’t like about the Tesla is the radio, it always takes a few minutes to connect to any radio station that we listen to.
Hopefully they fix that issue soon!
Great Video! Question: If you set your trunk to open to a lower height, how do you restore full opening?
Manually by pushing it up, then you can program it to stay at that height
New Tesla owner way down in New Zealand Mike - really great video thanks learning more about this great car every day

Hi Mike, actually loved some of these tips. Thanks!
Not sure if it's already been mentioned, 3225 comments like, so couldn't scroll through them all, but if you don't pay for Premium Connectivity, you lose "Remote Live Sentry Mode" as well as the Live Navigation stuff.
👍🏾
BROO AMAZING THANK YOU. GREAT VIDEO
You’re welcome glad you enjoyed it!
UPDATE TO TIP #1: PREMIUM CONNECTIVITY IS NEEDED FOR LIVE SENTRY MODE‼
Thanks Mike. *Great* list of helpful tips man! I had no idea!
Is it still needed if the Tesla is parked in our garage and connected to wifi? Our garage was broken into last year so having sentry mode in there would be pretty handy!
Exactly what I was about to ask. That’s the biggest bummer. I have free unlimited 5G data, and it’s sucks that I can’t just jam a SIM card in there.
Bump!
Nope! I just bought second hand Tesla model 3 dual motor, and i use hotspot on my old phone. Sentry is working, satellite image is working, traffic is working.
How did I feel about this video? First time I've ever tipped a creator. Great job!
Much appreciated!
Awesome tips Mike. The steering wheel remove and autopilot speed adjust awesome. Anyone know if you can set the volume differently to different seats?
You can adjust the volume throughout the car in the speaker settings. Hope this helps!
Great info! Thanks! These are the ones I will start using:
Sun Visor Extension
Navigate Home Fast
Tesla App Quick Controls (change icons)
Tesla Widget (larger)
Quick Light Settings
The others I knew about or was not interested in. I'm impressed by how many useful tips I learned from this video.
Great!
Or you can just hold down the right scroll wheel and say “go home” or “go to work”
Parking break is also available in the menu. It's funny how many of these hidden features are only hidden because people Didn't read the owners manual.
Yep, thats the thing NO one ever reads the manual!
Great Video Mike. I am a new Model 3 owner and is lucky to see your video now-itself.All valuable tips explained in very crisp and clear way.
Glad it was helpful!
Mike I have a Tesla S model and I had been complaining about not really knowing my vehicle like I want to and you helped out tremendously. Thanks & I look forward to more videos👍🏽
Great to hear!
I am currently not a Tesla owner, but hopefully that will change in the next couple of years :) the one main item that you did not mention in your video was that instead of manually going through these hidden features using the in cabin feature command screen, all you really would need to do is use the voice command option to perform most if not all of these hidden features, just a thought lol.
Makes sense thanks
Check out some more great commands! ruclips.net/video/UmWHcR1wpLQ/видео.html
Many wanna hide your plate. Just never know.
You're right, thank you
