You remember that time in the Bible where Jesus was asked to feed 5,000 people with simply 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, and he responded with, "You think I'm going to give all these entitled brats a handout? If they want food they should get off their lazy bums and get a job," and then he ate all of it himself?
This was spoken about 4 years ago. About the time I left my religion because I couldn’t be part of the hate and fear masquerading as love and peace, anymore. This is the first time I’ve heard this clip of AOC saying this. It’s the first time in more than 4 years that I’ve felt any connection to the part of myself that loved my faith, back when I still believed my religion.
Check out Paramahansa Yogananda. (See the Wisdom of Yogananda channel here on RUclips, its beautiful.) He teaches the real meaning of Christ's words and also of the Hindu God, Krisna. Yogananda says Christ's real teachings were that we are like him, and can do all that he can do. We are immortal beings made of light, love, and consciousness. But we forgot who we were and now we just see ourselves as helpless mortals. I turned away from the church at 15 (decades ago) but always kept jesus in my heart. I always wanted a way back to him that didn't include a Christianty. Yogananda gave me that. I hope you will give Yogananda a chance. He changed my life.
@@davkatjenn That would depend on your definition of religion. That said, I feel for your apparent and understandable frustration with how those who consider themselves as Christians while cherrypick scripture from the Bible to wrongly justify their bigotry, rascism, homophobia and antisemitism. It's not the religions that have gone wrong in the world. It is the church that is gone wrong in the world. What people don't understand is religion is not the samething as going to church. Church is a political system and religion is a belief system. They are 2 separate things
I just listened to an online mass And the priest said that the real meaning of it was to "protect the church from the state". Was not sure about it before, but I think it sounds wrong.
@@benkaiser2208 Right, and the prevalent message is the one that you posted. Which is the State cannot establish a religion. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" Meaning everyone has a freedom to worship under any belief they choose. Or not to worship at all. No one belief system or religion as you will has any more right than another. Or over those who don't have a belief system that they subscribe to. That's it, quite simple. It doesn't empower religion to be used to translate the US constitution, based on a specific religion because that would be the establishment of a religion. A direct violation of the first amendment. It simply means no one can tell you what religion you can choose.
That gave me chills, she is what our government needs. She cares about us. How do people have anything bad to say about her. She is truly for the people. What a blessing to have her on our side.
As an atheist and secular humanist, I have the same values as AOC when it comes to humanity. When I left Christianity behind as I discovered it was just more ancient mythology, I realized that my Christian background had taught me to judge and hate certain people for who they were and it was toxic. Freeing myself from that has allowed me to embrace all of humanity as valuable. Also, knowing that this is the one and only life I will ever have has made that life far more important and precious and extending that to everyone else is easy.

Indeed, without a common standard by which to measure things, there is no agreement. Now, to be fair, Steecie could be referring to the corrupt nature of the Sanhedrin to write laws, in the name of religion, that generally benefitted themselves. That would support AOC's argument. You can no longer say you are objectively wrong but rather I don't like your position but it's just as valid as mine. Assuming you mean replacement of religious beliefs with non religious ones, you also lose footing for intrinsic equality of value, dignity, and worth, and so will inevitably follow that path of every nation that's attempted to hold that position, especially when a personality like Trump gains control and has the authority and responsibility of Nietzsche's super man to define good and evil. Ours good these values of equality that rest on that foundation can be shared by others who don't necessarily follow it, but to think everyone will continue to is naive of history and human nature.

Evangelicals have always used the "Christian" card forever and it's some warped views honestly. The most important Christian values are about loving your neighbor and helping the needy. So policies like Social Security, having universal healthcare, supporting minorities, chartity etc. are actually very very Christian. It's actually MORE important as a Christian that you show kindness to those who are different, of lesser standing, poorer, or prosecuted than people of your equal.
Well said AOC! Also, it needs to be said that when there is talk of 'religious freedom' that it should not be only about Christianity. That is what most Christians mean when they say it. They discount any other religion and the people who believe other than they do. Not to mention those who do not subscribe to any religion. When they talk of 'religious freedom' , it is a very exclusive club.

it's because they're not actually afraid of being persecuted for their christianity. They know how ridiculous it sounds when they say that's happening, but it's all just pretense. As much as the bible does say love your neighbour as yourself (your neighbour being anybody) AND it says love your enemies, it does ALSO have exclusion. Those who DON'T believe in Christ WILL be EXCLUDED from heaven! The bible also tells us not to be equally yoked with unbelievers. That means we cannot mix with them. That's a form of exclusion too. And you have to exclude people who are a danger to you and your family and society at large. And you have to exclude people out of your personal life who hurt you. Exclusion isn't always a bad thing.
Matshadi what i would say is they aren’t excluded, it’s that there are conditions. When I think of love I think you must pray for your neighbour even your enemy, give them a drink if thirsty. Because that’s what Christ would do. We do have to remember that we aren’t fighting against flesh and blood and that we are to hate the sin and the spirit operating within that person and not the person. Some people we just won’t be able to reach and it’s best to remove ourselves from those people.
@@matshadi1999 the Bible doesn’t have exclusion. God doesn’t exclude. We’re made to love. Even if they don’t believe in God, we can at least give them the love we believe he gives us. As for those who are dangerous, I agree to try and separate from them for your own good
