This shows and further demonstrates why people like Bernie and AOC are popular. And until the DNC starts not playing both sides (campaigning with establishment republicans like Liz Cheney) they need to understand that progressive policies are popular. Healthcare, end citizens united united, etc… they’ve played the bonds to their corporations too long.

To me, the clear answer would have been funding for regional news organizations through a trust that operates on its capital gains only and never needs to touch it's capital, but since these are based in obviously the most expensive areas in the US, that further hurts their ability to operate outside of the click-bait economy

That said, I saw AOC going through a bunch of her followers' responses (as @Supamav1 referenced), and while the outsider theme was mentioned, there was a variety of reasons people gave, so there isn't a simple, single reason that explains it.

Well that’s strange, Trump was campaigning with RFK and Tulsi Gabbard for months. Standing on stage with them and acknowledging his admiration for them and their ideas and services to this country. so why should it have been some shock to people who voted for Trump that he would appoint Tulsi Gabbard to some position in the government or RFK to health and human services. That had been discussed openly enough that I knew that was possible he was going to be given. I’m sorry AOC is given way too much credit here for so called being introspective. This is just more cope, which is what I always expect from Democrats after they lose an especially unhinged idiots like joy Reid. Swallow it, chew on it , whatever you get to deal with it. Trump had been talking about nasty part of this mass influx of illegal immigrants for the entire campaign. AOC is just delusional on this point. People voted for Trump are not baffled by this and maybe one or two people that AOC claims to have spoken to about this who act like they’re surprised just unaware and that’s too bad. Trump didn’t lose by one or two votes. He won by millions of votes, so guess what it doesn’t matter that some people who voted for him are mad or disappointed that he’s talking about following through on his promises

If they were willing to embrace even a smidge of populist rhetoric and populist economic policies, they would have sunk Trump and the Republican party long ago, to be forgotten to the ages. It DOES depend on how you present yourself, certainly...and people like Trump understand how to do that in the modern age. People like AOC caught on pretty fast when they ran for office.

For what it’s worth, as an Australian who was exposed to the election external to the country one major reason Democrats lost was poor marketing. No attempt to engage with popular podcasts, use of sterile and traditional celebrity ad endorsed campaigns. By not engaging with modern (not saying they are factual by any means) entertainment mediums like joe rogan, Democrats signaled to the majority that they didn’t care about the working and minority class. Traditional media (right, centre or left) in Australia used these 2-3 hour podcasts to insert sound bites good and bad into daily news reports. You cant buy that level of organic market saturation. Bernie Sanders knew that years ago. It was 20mins of trump for every 5 minutes of democrats all all news mediums in Aus. Sincerely , best of luck with the next election.
