    I see a ton of cars that fail to yield to you. It must be nerve-racking. Keep up the great work Chief.

    Chief, would love to see some helmet cam footage someday. I recommend FireCam they’re pricy but they can withstand heat, water and they’re compact unlike a GoPro

    Booster line? Is that what Y'all call a hose reel line? If so, out west, we call them hard lines.

      @POV-Fire-Response  5 месяцев назад +1

      Correct, It is usually only 100 foot and a 1 and 1/2 inch in size rubber hose that we use for small fires.

    Hi chief, been following you for a bit now and was wondering how big your jurisdiction is. I only ask because it seams you drove for miles on most your calls

      Our District covers 69 square miles. We have automatic aid with surrounding districts that I respond to as well. I live outside the district so the travel times are longer for me.

      I started my professional career back in 1980 and ended up retiring out of a FD metro of ~250 square miles. All these years later I still volunteer just to scratch the itch, the county we cover is almost 4,000 square miles. Yesterday we had a bad multi-vehicle MVA down the mountain on the highway on the west slope, nearly 60 miles one way. But thats not even the longest, there are several small towns along the north slope where it's about about a 100 mile drive on pavement. We have remote stations all around the mountain but getting people to volunteer is difficult, but even the ones who do often work/live remote.

      @@virgilhilts3924 Wow that is a lot. Our county itself is 1,070.square miles. That will include Cities with some paid fire departments bur most are volunteer. Your right on getting people to volunteer is hard. I feel most just want the t-shirt and firefighter title without doing the work and schooling it takes to be a fire fighter.

      Bingo!
      Of course I'm old enough that the status symbol when I started my career was a Motorola Pageboy...LOL
      After I retired then joined the VFD about a decade ago the big status symbol was how many lights from Gall's you could mount to your POV. They lacked organization & leadership, since I had so many decades as a military and metro firefighter I was quickly asked throw my hat in the ring and was ultimately voted in to run the circus, one of the first things I did was take away automatic POV-C3 privileges, that cleaned house immediately. Only long standing members with actual ratings were allowed, and even then they had to go through and pass the State Police EVOC school. Better to have only a few quality members than a large clown show. Since then we have built a pretty solid crew.
      We do not have a single career FD in our county, only a few towns and villages with very small VFD's. We also cover a few Indian reservations and two of which do have full time paid EMT's, otherwise we are on our own.
      Did you catch my "Red Solo Cup" reference?
