Perhaps the best that we can hope for in Haiti is that these gangs end up being a bottom-up government, providing some measure of protection to the population within the areas they control. Look up the "stationary bandit" theory of the history of governments, for example. And compare the Mafia as an example of a kinda-sorta benevolent gang. Are any of the gangs in Haiti positive forces? Probably not. But the doesn't mean that they couldn't be.
Some of them literally eat people and dance with no longer alive bodies in elaborate voodoo rituals. So its more mad max or Fallout universe rather than some benevolent balancing force.

I’m not Haitian but know several Haitians, and the way to pronounce Haiti is “Hey-tee” and Haitian is “Hey-shen”
Yeah that's the English pronunciation.
It’s a running joke on this channel, Toycat always says “Hi-tee” although he knows the correct pronunciation. There are a few others, with Greenland he says “Green-land” instead of “Green-lund”, for Abkhazia he says “Ab-skay-zia” instead of “Ab-kah-zia”, for Heligoland he says “Hel-jee-o-land” instead of “Hel-ee-go-land” and I’m likely forgetting a few. I believe most of these were from when he first started the channel as a teenager and genuinely didn’t know how to pronounce them, but since then it’s become a running joke.
Can we just have a discussion about how the previous government of Hati failed their citizens by stealing everything that wasn't nailed down? If you went through a quater of what these people have you wouldn't be too jazzed about the current PM either.
Its so odd because when I consider the history of the new world; imperialism and colonization and such, it's hard for me to see any current regime as the "rightful government"when so many were born of violent revolutions or conquered by foreign interest. To me it feels like a lot of countries in the new world are ruled by former "gangs"(my home country of U.S.A included) . Like, at what point do they stop being seen as gangs, rebels, terrorists, and begin being called a militia? Is it numbers? Level of organization? Or is it just a matter of time and perspective?
