I don't think Iran was trying to escalate, moreso just trying to save face and not being seen as weak in the region.

@@Lussimio escalation would be a disproportionate response, not missiles that Iran knows can be shot down by Israel and allies with a huge time between the warning and the actual missiles so they can prepare. If Iran did nothing, they would be seen as weak by their neighbors and their proxies. If Iran's response were escalating then they'd be pulled into a war that they're not entirely equipped to fight at the moment. They're trying to tread a fine line.

how you gonna say that iran attacking israel is a huge escalation when it was only a reaction to israel bombing their embassy, which is literally bombing iranian soil and is an act of war. the response wasn’t even a major one was only done to say ‘look we responded’. they know about israel’s defences and knew that most of the drones they sent would be shot down. i’m not a big fan of the iranian regime but you can’t just ignore when israel attacks them and then say it’s a major escalation when iran attacks them back

So now Israel has launched an attack on Iran, Iraq and Syria as is being said. That opens the possibility for all three of those to respond back. It is worth noting, Iran did notify everyone well in advance of the attack on Israel giving Israel all the time in the world to prepare for defence. What would an attack look like if they say nothing in advance?
They did that because their hundred-missile attack was made solely to gauge what Israel's anti-missile defense looks like.
i was hoping you'll also mention that there's a religion war in this area, maybe the causes are political, but people follow because of religious beliefes. whether it's jewish settlements, or war between extrimist muslims and more moderate ones.. i mean, this area has a heavy religious value as well

The conflicts in the region have existed for hundreds of years, and would still exist regardless of finding oil. Oil money _does_ allow some objectively really awful governments to afford lots of fancy high-tech weapons to prosecute their conflicts, and oil also forces nations outside the region to pay attention to said conflicts.

Dude... Prepare for shit to hit the fan. Firstly, it was not a "consulate building". This is Iranian propaganda BS. Who has consular buildings in the capital? People have embassies in the capital. The building hit was a building adjacent to the embassy that served no diplomatic function. None of the people killed are diplomats. Second, Iran would be the last country to complain about it, since they themselves had no qualms when violating other countries embassies security (including Britain's) on multiple occasions. Third, Syria is not just any "third country", it's a country that is technically at war with Israel. Fourth, the people hit were not some random dudes, they were people who engaged in planning and executing direct military operations against Israel from Syrian and Lebanese territory. So, the cry of "oh my G-d, they hit an embassy, this is so bad" is pure Iranian propaganda.

during the cold war, almost every powerful country in the middle east had a secular government at some point, and america, UK, france, israel still found reasons to invade, bomb, and overthrow their governments. in the opposite direction, western powers funded and armed islamic fundamentalists whenever they fought with socialists. so no, islam is not the only reason or even a primary one. look at the uncountable israeli massacres against palestinians, or the massacres perpetrated by christian fascists in lebanon for proof.
