As an Argentine myself I would say that the Falkland/Malvinas werent an important reason to decide who to vote, the current goverment party try to make it like that bcos it was easier to sell Milei as a "bad person" with that. All this election was about the economy. Yet if you voted thinking in the islands your option were voting for the same party that has rule during 16 of the last 20 years and have done nothing to try to take the islands back rather than just cry and say the island are ours and pretending Britain would pay any attention to us. Milei was the first politicion to propose something different about the island, the "Hong Kong style devolution". As I said many people would have vote for Milei anyway just for the economy part but about the islands from the Argentine point of view, unless youre hyperpatriotic and think that the Hongkong-style deal is treason, Milei was also seen as a good option.

I don't think Chile is worst than before, we have controlled inflation pretty well, we are kind of a constitucional stagnation but nothing that can destroy our country. Our leaders always have to lean to the center or moderate anyways because that is how chilean politics works. Security has been a big problem recently with the uncontrolled immigration, president Piñera shout out to all venezuelans to come and now our police (Carabineros) says crime rates are less, but committed crimes are worst and more violent. I think a fact many British ignore regarding the falkland islands is that Argentina at one point had more dominion over those islands than over the patagonia. From their perspective, _they_ got invaded in 1833 when the British came back. I don’t fully understand what you mean. But the thing in Argentina, is that the state has a lot of influence in EVERYTHING that goes on over here. For example, prices are controlled by the government, just like in a communist regime. The government decides how much petrol/gas must cost, how much the public transport fairs cost, they decide the price of milk, meat, even how much shoes and clothing should cost. But it’s not like the government is the one who sells all of these things. They enforce it onto the private sector, onto companies and businesses. In order to do this, they make deals and heavily subsidize everything. The problem is the country is broke, and we have no money to afford all of that. That leads to the government being late in their payments, and also while we have over 10% of monthly inflation, they don’t fix the prices, they remain the same and make businesses lose money. Public companies are all inefficient and are losing money. The government spends literal MILLIONS of DOLLARS in public television and radio, they pay astronomical wages to the employees who barely work a couple of hours per week, and it’s not like we, the citizens, get quality entertainment and content in return, they suck. Every senator and deputy (congress people) get to have chauffeurs, free buffets, they each get dozens of assistants and advisers (who are all paid high salaries). We have whole ministries that literally do nothing for the common good. When we say we want “less government” we mean we want to cut down all of these things. We want the government to interfere less with our lives and allow us to make our own decisions, set our own prices, pay less tax. Most of us who voted for Milei are not against the state per se, we would all love to have free quality education, free quality healthcare, and all of the things people have in Europe, but they simply don’t work in Argentina. Everything is so corrupt, so incompetent. We have the most taxes out of every country, yet we barely see the returns on our lives. We are all forced to send our children to private school, we have to pay for private healthcare, we can’t count on the government on anything, not even for security, we also need to pay for that ourselves.

Afaik the Argentinian economy is in a difficult situation most of the time. I just think in order to change anything, one would have to start at a deeper level, which is the economy itself. Politics might exacerbate things, but how much of these arrangement are a function of the way how the Argentinian economy is structured? I will certainly not pretend I know enough about this matter to decide, but the things I've heard about the solutions Milei proposes seem like they come from a rather unreasonable place. After all, most people aren’t libertarian either. Not to that extent at least. His most “crazy” proposal was probably closing the central bank, and even that was a figure of speech. But even that, dollarizing the country, is an idea that has been floating around for decades. It has been seriously discussed many times by politicians, journalists, economists, and there were those who supported it and those who didn’t. We had a similar sort of thing in the 90s, our currency was pegged to the USD 1 to 1, so there’s even some experience of what it is like (it’s still a quite different thing though, pegging is not the same as adopting an other currency). I'd like to give Milei a chance -- most of the things he's saying are actually the things Argentina (and really, the US or UK) need. My fear for them is that entrenched interests won't let him enact the things he's saying. I mean, the main reason West Germany was so successful postwar is that the occupying powers said "turn off our propping up their economy" and by the time anybody got around to trying to reverse it, it was a done deal. "Get rid of the central bank" just means that they're going to solve their inflation problem by strapping themselves to a bigger economy. They'll probably adopt the dollar, but arguments could be made for the Euro or Yuan. The reason that could be a good thing for them is similar to one of the arguments for a gold standard: It limits the government's ability to borrow beyond their ability to repay.
Us argentinians are pretty happy with our newest president! It's given us hope of potential economic betterment. The right-wing and left-wing, as seen by first worlders, don't have the same meaning over here. The main thing we're worried about is being able to survive and have a currency that's actually worth something, and Milei was the only option that promised to focus on that. It'll take years before we're back on track though (and that's implying our divided congress works in the interest of the nation and not political interest).

You've been voting in socialists for the last couple of decades, and just recently, started constantly swinging the pendulum between left and right. Of course, nothing is going to happen. One party or person does something, another erases and tries to correct it, the government just becomes a Looney Tunes circus. This is one of the signs of economic stagnation, a stark contrast to the high economic growth seen during Pinochet's term. Decades of wrongs cannot be fixed by only four years. The same could be said here in the Philippines, but instead with a literal century of wrongs, while people cope that four years is enough to fix all of it. The current state of government and the presidency is useless, and gives all the more reason to just cut it or abolish it entirely, in favour of a new model. Generational and communal reform is needed to shape a nation, not bigger government.

Venezuelan here 🇻🇪. Let me tell you my opinion about the Essequibo Dispute. There are strong arguments, proofs and historical reasons to consider that territory as ours. We all Venezuelans, no matter the political affiliation or ideology have had always considered the Essequibo as part of Venezuela so there’s no way the referendum would end up with a “no”, but TBH is unnecessary. I don’t want a war either, that’s horrible and even worse if it’s the dictatorial government to address the problem, especially because they are doing so as a scapegoat for the continued crisis the country is still facing and also for blackmailing people for it: if you don’t vote I get rid of the social programs, if you disagree with the referendum or any military intervention you will be considered as a traitor to the country. There should be other ways and especially other moments and circumstances to solve the dispute, but now it’s totally ridiculous, we need to fix our main territory first before thinking on taking more land. Look at Japan, The Netherlands or Switzerland, they are small and without resources compared to Venezuela and they are still very well developed countries. I will not vote this weekend.

People say this because at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century they had something like the 6th or 7th highest gdp per capita (out of less than 50 countries), but that's because a few aristocratic families held lots of wealth from agricultural exports, and they had a comparatively small population. It's just a statistical bias. Your average farmer and or worker didn't see any of that wealth. They were as poor and uneducated as the rest of Latin America. People say this because there is this myth that Argentina was a liberal paradise before the 1930s, when they had the first democratic elected president, and specially before the rise to power of Juan Domingo Perón during the 1940s. According to these people, like the ones who supported Milei and Milei himself, he was a far left dictator who put "too much government" and drove the country to misery, even though his government was arguibly the peak of argentinian prosperity. So no, Argentina was never rich, nor did they ever have a far left government. This is something people say to stop any form of social justice in Argentina. I'd recommend BadEmpanada video about this topic. He is explains all of this very well.

As a Venezuelan I'm just going to say that the Esequibo Territory has been in dispute since many decades ago and most venezuelans consider it part of the territory, the problem comes from 200 years ago when Venezuela became an independent state and the British kind of arbitrarily drew the line between Venezuela and their territory taking more space than what they previously had, the Venezuela government back then agreed, many decades later another government said no, that's ours and since then, well, there's been this ongoing and somewhat pacific dispute. In my personal opinion Venezuela is currently facing many more urgent issues that require more attention than "taking back" all that piece of land.
But it's not Venezuela. The esequibo population are Guyanese and they speak English, and they want to remain part of Guyana. Venezuela is a bully and they're trying to take over Guyana without consent. All they want is oil.

As an Argentine myself I would say that the Falkland/Malvinas werent an important reason to decide who to vote, the current goverment party try to make it like that bcos it was easier to sell Milei as a "bad person" with that. All this election was about the economy.
Yet if you voted thinking in the islands your option were voting for the same party that has rule during 16 of the last 20 years and have done nothing to try to take the islands back rather than just cry and say the island are ours and pretending Britain would pay any attention to us. Milei was the first politicion to propose something different about the island, the "Hong Kong style devolution". As I said many people would have vote for Milei anyway just for the economy part but about the islands from the Argentine point of view, unless youre hyperpatriotic and think that the Hongkong-style deal is treason, Milei was also seen as a good option.

I don’t fully understand what you mean. But the thing in Argentina, is that the state has a lot of influence in EVERYTHING that goes on over here. For example, prices are controlled by the government, just like in a communist regime. The government decides how much petrol/gas must cost, how much the public transport fairs cost, they decide the price of milk, meat, even how much shoes and clothing should cost. But it’s not like the government is the one who sells all of these things. They enforce it onto the private sector, onto companies and businesses. In order to do this, they make deals and heavily subsidize everything. The problem is the country is broke, and we have no money to afford all of that. That leads to the government being late in their payments, and also while we have over 10% of monthly inflation, they don’t fix the prices, they remain the same and make businesses lose money. Public companies are all inefficient and are losing money. The government spends literal MILLIONS of DOLLARS in public television and radio, they pay astronomical wages to the employees who barely work a couple of hours per week, and it’s not like we, the citizens, get quality entertainment and content in return, they suck.
Every senator and deputy (congress people) get to have chauffeurs, free buffets, they each get dozens of assistants and advisers (who are all paid high salaries). We have whole ministries that literally do nothing for the common good.
When we say we want “less government” we mean we want to cut down all of these things. We want the government to interfere less with our lives and allow us to make our own decisions, set our own prices, pay less tax. Most of us who voted for Milei are not against the state per se, we would all love to have free quality education, free quality healthcare, and all of the things people have in Europe, but they simply don’t work in Argentina. Everything is so corrupt, so incompetent. We have the most taxes out of every country, yet we barely see the returns on our lives. We are all forced to send our children to private school, we have to pay for private healthcare, we can’t count on the government on anything, not even for security, we also need to pay for that ourselves.

Afaik the Argentinian economy is in a difficult situation most of the time. I just think in order to change anything, one would have to start at a deeper level, which is the economy itself. Politics might exacerbate things, but how much of these arrangement are a function of the way how the Argentinian economy is structured? I will certainly not pretend I know enough about this matter to decide, but the things I've heard about the solutions Milei proposes seem like they come from a rather unreasonable place. His most “crazy” proposal was probably closing the central bank, and even that was a figure of speech. He isn’t actually closing it, he’s just taking away some of its capacities (supposedly the ability to print currency, which would thus make us adopt the USD. But even that, dollarizing the country, is an idea that has been floating around for decades. It has been seriously discussed many times by politicians, journalists, economists, and there were those who supported it and those who didn’t.
We had a similar sort of thing in the 90s, our currency was pegged to the USD 1 to 1, so there’s even some experience of what it is like (it’s still a quite different thing though, pegging is not the same as adopting an other currency).

I'd like to give Milei a chance -- most of the things he's saying are actually the things Argentina (and really, the US or UK) need. My fear for them is that entrenched interests won't let him enact the things he's saying. I mean, the main reason West Germany was so successful postwar is that the occupying powers said "turn off our propping up their economy" and by the time anybody got around to trying to reverse it, it was a done deal.
"Get rid of the central bank" just means that they're going to solve their inflation problem by strapping themselves to a bigger economy. They'll probably adopt the dollar, but arguments could be made for the Euro or Yuan. The reason that could be a good thing for them is similar to one of the arguments for a gold standard: It limits the government's ability to borrow beyond their ability to repay.
Us argentinians are pretty happy with our newest president! It's given us hope of potential economic betterment. The right-wing and left-wing, as seen by first worlders, don't have the same meaning over here. The main thing we're worried about is being able to survive and have a currency that's actually worth something, and Milei was the only option that promised to focus on that. It'll take years before we're back on track though (and that's implying our divided congress works in the interest of the nation and not political interest).

Venezuelan here 🇻🇪. Let me tell you my opinion about the Essequibo Dispute. There are strong arguments, proofs and historical reasons to consider that territory as ours. We all Venezuelans, no matter the political affiliation or ideology have had always considered the Essequibo as part of Venezuela so there’s no way the referendum would end up with a “no”, but TBH is unnecessary. I don’t want a war either, that’s horrible and even worse if it’s the dictatorial government to address the problem, especially because they are doing so as a scapegoat for the continued crisis the country is still facing and also for blackmailing people for it: if you don’t vote I get rid of the social programs, if you disagree with the referendum or any military intervention you will be considered as a traitor to the country. There should be other ways and especially other moments and circumstances to solve the dispute, but now it’s totally ridiculous, we need to fix our main territory first before thinking on taking more land. Look at Japan, The Netherlands or Switzerland, they are small and without resources compared to Venezuela and they are still very well developed countries. I will not vote this weekend.

As a Venezuelan but also as someone that believes that territories and the people in them have more say than what external forces have I feel this is just a fucking travesty, we are not in the middle ages anymore, we can't go claming territory out of centuries old grudges. What happened in the past happened. This country is more than capable of functioning if we had a competent goverment, no resonable person should vote yes for such a blantant imperialistic desires.

People say this because at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century they had something like the 6th or 7th highest gdp per capita (out of less than 50 countries), but that's because a few aristocratic families held lots of wealth from agricultural exports, and they had a comparatively small population. It's just a statistical bias. Your average farmer and or worker didn't see any of that wealth. They were as poor and uneducated as the rest of Latin America.
People say this because there is this myth that Argentina was a liberal paradise before the 1930s, when they had the first democratic elected president, and specially before the rise to power of Juan Domingo Perón during the 1940s. According to these people, like the ones who supported Milei and Milei himself, he was a far left dictator who put "too much government" and drove the country to misery, even though his government was arguibly the peak of argentinian prosperity. So no, Argentina was never rich, nor did they ever have a far left government. This is something people say to stop any form of social justice in Argentina.

As a Venezuelan I'm just going to say that the Esequibo Territory has been in dispute since many decades ago and most venezuelans consider it part of the territory, the problem comes from 200 years ago when Venezuela became an independent state and the British kind of arbitrarily drew the line between Venezuela and their territory taking more space than what they previously had, the Venezuela government back then agreed, many decades later another government said no, that's ours and since then, well, there's been this ongoing and somewhat pacific dispute. In my personal opinion Venezuela is currently facing many more urgent issues that require more attention than "taking back" all that piece of land.
But it's not Venezuela. The esequibo population are Guyanese and they speak English, and they want to remain part of Guyana. Venezuela is a bully and they're trying to take over Guyana without consent. All they want is oil.

what's important to understand about Peru, is that no one knows anything. I know, I know, that sounds absurd, but hear me out. The politicians running for office, don't know what their policies mean. The people voting for them, don't know what their policies mean, the political pundits in TV will vote for a super right wing party in the first round of presidential voting, and then vote for a marxist party in the second round. Why? probably because they didn't like how some candidate ate a certain food or because the left wing guy farted and so now they vote for the right. Its actually quite amazing. You may think I'm joking I know. But there was actually a case of a presidential candidate who was second or third in the polls, politely declined some food that someone offered him on TV and the guy lost all of his voters and went to the bottom of the pack because of this. That was it, he didn't eat a snack someone offered him and his political career was literally over. They have asked marxist parties who is Karl Marx, and they have never heard of the guy. No one knows shit or understand anything, people hear left or right but they have no clue what any of that actually entails in a social or economic aspect. This is why you see such huge 'pendulum' swings. You hear European or American commentators bewildered at how fast the pendulum swung, mate, most people don't even know what a pendulum is. People vote or not for a candidate based on the most asinine things such as what clothes they wore, what food they ate, whether they tripped or not, if they use glasses or not.
