    Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    I've seen people put a strip of carbon fibre cut in a long tape to wrap around the rod, then they put resin tape on to mask where they want nothing and to keep the resin sticking to the shrink wrap, and then they use clear shrink tube over it... after the resin is set with a UV light , the wrap is pulled off.

    That's the first time I've ever seen someone use a flame to shrink down shrink tube.

    I really love this. I used to build my own tench and barbel rods using quality blanks and Fuji rings. However I have to say that rod whipping colours don't catch you any more fish. The real skill here is rod blank action and ring spacings.

    Very good video... I'm particularly interested in your power wrapping machine set-up. Is it like a sewing machine motor with the foot pedal? I have one here but is far too fast, 10000 rpm. Have since gone to a real cheap set up which works very well but unfortunately the chucks are definitely not what you would call good quality... Have built the whole set up at home as my retirement hobby... Any information you could post about your motor and pulley set up would be great... Cheers Karl K from New Zealand...

    Hey Aaron - one quick question: does adding those decorative red wraps between the feet of the guides add any stiffness to the blank? I have a blank where I'd like to add some stiffness if possible to the mid-section, so my idea was to do something similar for those mid-section zone B guides.

      Matt Tuers thanks for your question buddy. Quite the contrary actually, if it makes any difference at all to a rod, it will only make it softer :)

    • @mtuers
      @mtuers 4 года назад

      @@aaroninsley4650 Is that just because of the added epoxy and thread weight on the rod that it can becomes slightly softer?

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 4 года назад

      Matt Tuers yes the additional weight and flat spots. It would depend on the rod and user if it’s noticeable.

    What is the purpose of all that shrink tube. Is it a Europe thing? Or a saltwater rod thing?

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 3 года назад

      These rods are typically 25mm plus at the butt, so shrink tube is just an alternative to duplon or cork for example, which would obviously raise the profile, which is already significant. The reel position can vary a lot too, even for the same angler at any given time, so a none fixed solution and the ability to slide the position up and down the rod, is really the only practical solution, this obviously wouldn't be possible with fixed grip components. The rods are also in a rest or sat on rocks for periods of time, so the shrink offers as some protection :)

    Why is it you don't do under wraps under the guide feet? That is an area that receives all the stress I would think that you would wrap that and then wrap over top with the guide wrap. You put all that work to put in a center wrap under the middle of the guide but nothing where it counts

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 3 года назад +1

      Under wraps for these particular rods would offer little to no practical purpose, in this case it serves as cosmetic only, which is what you will find for most rods built for purpose here in the UK. I have built a lot of bigger game rods for UK fishing and internationally, in these cases i do full under and multi wraps because as you suggest, it is absolutely necessary!

    11:20 to 18:00 minutes - what is the purpose of this under wrapping if it doesn't go completely under the feet, protecting the blank from coming into contact with the metal?

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 5 лет назад

      Matt Tuers, As under wrapping on these particular type of rods isn’t necessary for the reason you suggest, the underwrap in this instance is for cosmetics. I also build a lot of heavy game boat rods, with these rods I will always underwrap the entire length of the guide 👍

      I just finished assembling my 13' surf rod for fishing North Carolina... including under wrappings beneath the guide feet (recommended by the manufacturer). On the beaches here, catching a 20 - 50 lb. hard-fighting fish can be a regular occurrence so I agreed that full under wrapping was a good idea. You?

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 5 лет назад

      Matt Tuers lol yes I think in your case that is definitely appropriate. Unfortunately we don’t see fish like that from the shore here

    Is that stripper guide upside down?

    • @aaroninsley4650
      @aaroninsley4650 4 года назад

      vectorponder the butt guide is indeed on the top of the rod. Here in the uk, multiplier reels are typically used for this particular style of fishing, these rods have been built for that purpose hence its position :)
