I so love that they used the same actress for young Margaret who played her from SEASON ONE in the flash backs. She aged naturally as the show went on and she amazingly starts to look like Vanessa Kirby as she grows! What casting!
The young actress playing Elizabeth REALLY looks like she could be claire Foy's younger sibling. I don't know if its great casting, or the hair and makeup people can just work wonders, but whatver they did, it 's impressive.
Viola Prettejohn is the one who played teenage Elizabeth. She does look like Claire Foy in real life albeit with different hairstyle and eyebrows. But really, there wasn't much needed to make them look a lot more alike. At first I really thought it was Claire Foy CGI'ed younger.
Watching this clip and I can believe that young Princess Elizabeth would have blended in with the crowds quite easily as so many women were in uniform and with all the festivities no one would have noticed. What a heady time to be just part of the crowd....something that would not be available to her in 1952 when her father passed away and she became queen.
I agree! The producers could have given into the temptation to focus more on the William & Kate storyline, but QEII’s relationship with Margaret was the whole heart of the show. Margaret deserved this send off.
People were more lax about age gaps back then, if only they still were now. No one was hurt by their relationship yet people insist on being judgemental.
This event in real life I think was what inspired the Bel & Sarah movie A Royal Night Out eg The Crown isn't the only silver screen adaptation of it!!!
Could we have a CSI:The Crown Edition please? Because something tells me that it’s either great casting or just a coincidence that it’s Season 1 and 6 fused because of the canny resemblance between the actresses who played Princess Elizabeth before her ascension to the Throne as Queen Elizabeth II!
Margaret was only 14 at the time. Was it really such a good idea for her to go out like that? The QM wasn't the most aware mother was she? Leaving the one who's going to be Queen uneducated and letting her younger one behave as if 4 or more years older.
@@mollywinda8537 Actually no: it is a known fact the two princesses were allowed to go outside the palace to mingle with the crowds and to experience some of the celebrations.
They were escorted by Grenadier Guards officers at the real event and not unaccompanied… Elizabeth was their Colonel since 2 years earlier… Their cousins The Harewood’s was with them as well…
Perhaps you can ask your God for the empathy, imagination, and curiosity about history and the feelings of others that might help you understand. The people you see having a "hedonistic party" in the streets had endured six years of war and deprivation. They'd lost nearly half a million people to the war. The city they're in was bombed relentlessly for over 8 months during the Blitz, destroying two million homes and killing over 40,000 people. They'd been rationing almost every commodity, including gasoline, silk, rubber, meat, sugar, butter, eggs, and bread. Imagine what that does to 47 million people over a six-year period and you'll begin to forgive them for taking to the streets and havong a blowout party when it's over.

oh that’s so cool!!! i love when that happens
True

I thought the same thing! I was completely blown away.
And the girl playing Margret looks like a young Vanessa Kirby.. both great casting
I seriously thought it was Claire Foy CGId to look younger until I read this.
So true
Best casting ever. The younger version look exactly like older versions. Well done to the casting team!

Such a sad episode but the flashbacks to VE Day were so enjoyable and sweet.
If you want to see the long form version of this, there's a movie called "A Royal Night Out."
Thats a messy version they are partying like animal on that movie 🤣🤣 i lowkey wish that movie is historically accurate tho
I was an extra for a whole day in this less than 3mins or so of footage haha. Pity I can't make myself out in it, but it was incredible to be there!
That's awesome 😮 how many actor involved in this scene?
@@zinussan50 about 300 total, it was crazy busy
@@RGBeanie oh...300? I always thought the crowd is CGI. Glad to know that you are contributing to this TV series. 💯💯👍
@zinussan50 yeah it was still cgi. We had 300 of us all move and swap props etc to make a bigger crowd!
This episode was the best one this season!

Truly a beautiful episode.
It was a bit jarring to hear the "real" Winston Churchill instead of John Lithgow!
Of casting directors should ever get an awards category of their own, I strongly suggest Nina Gold. ...This casting is pure gold!
THAT Peter Townsend!? He's 16 years older than Margaret (who wasn't even 15 yet, on VE day)! 😱

How they found a young actress who looked exactly like Claire Foy's younger double is beyond me.
Can you post Lesley Manville's scenes? Or their last walk to the Palace?
yess thats what im looking for
Margaret in an interview said they were accompanied by their maternal uncle as well. I wonder why the crown writers didn't include him.
Well, let's just say both of you were at The Ritz, and let's not talk about it anymore
Stop letting me go now-leejee
Anyone know the background song at 0:39 when princess Margaret looking out the window ? Please tell me

The Last Great War
Until China, Iran and Russia become the new Axis that is
Hopefully forever.

This is likely completely fictional. I would not worry too much.

@@mollywinda8537The Queen herself said before it really happened. They were accompanied, of course.
The American brother defo smashed, the events/story has been obviously distorted
what episode is this?
Season 6 Episode 8
Did this actually happen in real life?
Instead of thanking God, a huge hedonistic party--I imagine a number of widows and maimed soldiers weren't partying.
god had nothing to do with it.

You can't imagine that people who lost so much during the war couldn't feel enough joy to celebrate it being over? 😂
God allows and wants people to celebrate
