Why wouldn’t the French sail those ships to the US or Britain? They could have been vital in the protection of Allied convoys. This is just a question not criticism. I’m not aware of all the parameters in this event.
Because helping the allies like that would have mean war again with germany, and Vichy couldn't do that. The nazis didn't stole french ships, the british attacked them and sunk a few of them like the old battleship Bretagne. Most of the french fleet was sunk by the french when germany tried to stole them in 1942. Some ships like battleship Richelieu weren't at Toulon and joined the allies.
Some surface ships and submarines joined the british by themselves, it was mostly the crew's own decision, the british almost sunked them because they were technically "hostiles" because of the Vichy puppet state, fortunately the french vessels declared themselves "rogues" so that they wouldn't be assimilated with the original french fleet, it was a whole mess technically but one thing is for sure, Frenchmans never wanted their ships to be used against Britain, so by one way or another, they didn't let their ships to the germans
Wargaming, these videos are great, but your narrations still need work. They became the "ap-i-tome," really? (4:11 in video.) Maybe you meant "epitome"?
Lots of inaccuracies and styraight bullship. Example, not the only french surface ship conserved as museum as there is also at least Jeanne d'Arc. Second, it is not balanced design, as it seriously lacked anti-surface capabilities, long range anti-air missiles, for its price and size (because it was what it was, i.e. an ESCORT ship).
Jeanne d'Arc was scrapped. They did have Colbert but that too, was scrapped. They mean only current museum ship in France. Not the only one that has ever existed.
The Maillé-Brézé was not made as an anti-air warship, but as an anti-submarine ship, and as such, you can see she has a variable depth sonar on the stern. And believe me, the 100mm gun is very effective, more than the 76mm gun you can see on those modern french destroyers
@@lioneljonson1538 Me:"Second, it is not balanced design, as it seriously lacked anti-surface capabilities, " You:"And believe me, the 100mm gun is very effective, more than the 76mm gun you can see on those modern french destroyers" I see you have no clue. They are facing since early 70's enemy with comparable size with at least 4 typically 8 SSM. The gun in this scenario is irrelevant given lack of strong AA defenses. It would sink easily against OHperry on a long patrol, which in itself is almost impotent. It would sink against any missile from TU95 bear. The ship cannot operate fully autonomously even at short distances, which is adefinition of multipurpose balanced design frigate. I repeat, what you concluded but tried to misleadingly rebut, that it is not a balanced design. It is not. It is focused on escort/antisubmarine. So you seem to read, but do not understand. Balanced frigate design is a mix of AAW, ASuW, and ASW. AA point defenses of its era, typically high volume RIM/RAM21 or VLS seawolf, something up to 8Nm, more welcomed would be some some gatling or whatever with a barrel fully automatically guided, and a few missiles 40 to maybe 120nm, and a few torpedos or depth charges for shallow waters. In that respect, Swedish Stockholm is balanced design, while Visby is not. British type 21/22/23 is balanced frigate design (shifting gradually from more ASW to AAW). Maille-Breze is not a balanced frigate design. LaFayette is not balanced frigate design. German F123 is balanced frigate design. US Arleigh burke is balanced frigate design. Even OHPerry is more balanced, however it seriously lacks multiple harpoon launcher (only one at time) which in fact limits its potential against anything with AA defenses and gatling very considerably. The ship is vulnerable to anything carrying SS-N2 Styx since early 1960's so about 3 years after its introduction. So yes, its antisurface capabilities put it in THIRD league fighting. That is ESCORT. ESCORTS have weak ASuW. The hell, it has minimal AAW even compared to Brooke class built 2-3 years after it.
And technically speaking air-launched torps are already in the game. The rocket launched torpedoes featured here is not air-launched but ship-launched.

Torpedoes with a speed of 25 knots and a range of 5 kilometers? With post WW2 technology? That's frickin terrible! A Japanese Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo could do 52 knots - that's over twice as fast - and a maximum range of over 40 kilometers, that's over 8 times the range! And, this with a 610mm torp versus a 550 mm torp, gee I wonder which one would hit harder? And the Japanese had these babies back in 1933, and the French didn't have their torps until after 1945? Hell, I would rather ship out with American MK XIV torpedoes with magnetic detonators!
