- In this episode we look at examples of steering wheel 'notches' and one example in particular, the 'Dylan Ring' - a brushed aluminum ring that fits seamlessly onto any Porsche steering wheel, to provide the interior with a subtle and unique style upgrade. Let's check it out!
From the designer: "As a 991 owner and long term fan of Auto Amateur I wanted something a bit special to fit my steering wheel rather than nasty, cheap electric tape options. My 13 year old son, Dylan, came up with the idea of matching it to the same polished aluminium used on my Porsche Sports Steering wheel. With the help of a local metal worker we have created a small number cut from best quality, 1 mm gauge, polished aluminium. It is the perfect finishing touch to any Porsche interior."

Nice video length! We used to route the windshield cleaner line out the front of the car when we were kids. The High School parking lot was always fun that way.
That is an awesome idea! I am going to purchase one of those notches!
Thanks Beth! 🙌🙌
Looking forward to the Wireless Adapter for CarPlay. I have actually been researching those for my GMC.
How is the lag on the wireless csrplay adapter?
Great video James! And nice job Dylan!
Thanks bro
Brilliant I thought it was only me that used a bit of red M3 tape on my sport design wheel , lol 😂
Brilliant! 💖 I’m so doing this!
🙌♥️
Please don't do this!
Katie meet Nick, Nick meet Katie. Katie is insanely lovely and awesome and lovely and awesome. Nick is insane. **my matching making is complete**
@@AutoAmateur lol
@@NickMurray Why not?
Love all the videos! Keep up the great work. I see your subscribers growing steadily and that is great to see!

Dang what are the odds. I also need to change my trim plus was wondering what to do with my calipers as well haha. Definitely looking forward to those vids James!
Ha! Awesome!! 🥳🥳🥳
Wonder if it'll catch the light and blind you? ;) I'll wait for color match... and keep my white 3m tape for the time being! Good stuff though.
Phew, that was easier than I feared, thought you'd got to take the steering wheel off again 🔪😬😂
🤣🤣🤣👍
Hey James, funny you are doing an episode on 12 o’clock stripe this episode. I just got my hands on multiple colors of 1/2” pinstriping tape. Fits perfect, it’s been fun trying different colors. I do like the brushed aluminum look, never would’ve thought of that. Good job Dylan!
Cheers Scott and I’m sure Dylan appreciates your post! 🙌👍
Thanks Scott and I can assure you it looks beautiful
Love the aluminium notch. Dylan, maybe you could anodize them different colors too. Easy process, and then I could change the color depending on my mood.. James, you are starting to cost me money now. When I get back to the states I will have to buy the notch, plus the wireless adapter since my 991.2 only has the usb.;-)
Very nice suggestion, we were actually looking at anodising however wanted to keep it simple to match the polished aluminium sport steering wheel although there are definitely possibilities in the future
Why do you need the wireless adapter for Car Play? Doesn't your Joyauto unit have wireless Car Play?
It does. It’s not for me.
Did your steering wheel have the groove for the notch already? How do you make the groove? When are you going to get the carbon fiber steering wheel we discussed? It's the best carbon fiber upgrade I've made.
Normally there will be two little pieces of stitching at the top of the steering wheel however if not you can always measure it out and friction fit it onto the right place.
Thanks Dylan!
Regarding the Carplay USB Module. Which version on your site supports Mercedes. I only see models with Porsche and Audi compatibility?
Hey Mark! Sorry for the confusion. It’s one size fits all. The same device works for all cars.
I need to update my website.
Hmmm....well, Piccards wedding ring did not fit ?
Normally a fan of your videos and subtle modifications. Although, this is a no from me. "Sits perfectly flush" unless its not installed correctly in the video, it looks far from flush and looks like you will be catching it all the time. It also looks to be a lose fitting. Not sure about this one ....
Thanks Simon!! Not for everyone. Cheers!
How do us Englishers get hold of these....seems a little mad them being made in the UK, being shipped to the US and then shipped back to the UK. Maybe set up a UK/European outlet?
They’re shipped from the UK directly to you.
@@AutoAmateur might try an improvised version using a jubilee clamp 🤔🤣
@@jasonwalsh9211 you could definitely try that however you might find the buckle at the back annoying but good luck 🤞
How did I miss this video! Can you get your face closer to the camera next time??
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 😕
Dylan needs to go get a patent. lol
Haha thanks man
