I love Lisbon, the food, people, everything about it. One of the most underrated cities that people pass by in favour of Barcelona and the like. Loved seeing the film, brought back happy memories and now I'm starving!! lol xxx
I'm from Portugal too! Miss so much my country! The sea food is so good... and the Pasteis de Nata are fenomenal!! Portugal has so great food! So much good things to offer!
Great to see you visiting my country! I like your channel even more now that I know you're searching for new foods and technics to improve your cooking! Continua!
I am so happy to know that you visited my beautiful country! Portugal is such an amazing place and it's gastronomy is incredibly rich. I hope you have enjoyed your trip!
Those custard tarts are seriously delicious!! I remember when I tried them while I was in Portugal. Mmm.. watching this video takes me back. Good memories~ Obrigado!
Another excellent video Donal. This one was timely too. I live in Toronto, according to the UN, the most cosmopolitan city in the world. We have over 300k Portuguese living here and one of the things they do really well is their custard tarts. I drooled watching them being made on your vlog, so am off, in a few minutes, to buy a half dozen. 😎🇨🇦🎉
I love those pasteis!!! It's a unique variety of a pastel de nata. they are delicious when warm and with a bit of cinnamon on top. sooooo goooooodddddd
Told you: these are delicious!!! Now you know how they are being made and where, but the recipe is (of course) a secret... other pasteis de nata are also very good, but the original dough is quite unique... Enjoy Lisbon!
As a Brazilian visiting Portugal had a special taste literally, not only because I could recognize something familiar to me everywhere but also because their food is unforgettable, the pastel de Belém is delicious, but I also would suggest the travesseiros de Sintra (Sintra's pillows).
Donal Skehan I recently stumbled upon your channel (via RUclips recommendation) and I must say I am so glad I did! I love how full of energy you are! You take time out to vlog in between your shoot :) Good luck with filming! :)
Dear Donal, i'm so happy you came to our beautiful country! But i just have to say, it's not a fish festival, it's called "Santos Populares". It's a party celebrating the saints! And you can eat, indeed, awesome grilled sardines! :D
wow this video is just wonderful! Great job! I love these custard tarts! Here in Brazil we have some great ones, founded by people who have worked at the Pasteis de Belèm in Lisbon...its called Cafe Matilde and it is the closest to this I have ever tasted! Don´t get me wrong nothing can top eating this in Lisbon! Lisbon is one of my favourite cities......been there 27 times and have gone to Pastéis de Belém every single time! mmmmmmm so good!
I'm I the only Portuguese person here that recognizes the food. I was there at that festival last year but this year I start college so I stayed. I was born in Texas and live there but one my parents is Portuguese so I lived in Lisbon for a good amount of my childhood also I go back often. You should visit Algarve it's the Southern area of Portugal and man is it paradise. Cheap food,Cheap Hotels, and great Service btw this is compared to the rest of Europe like Venice,Rome,London,Copenhagen and Paris(Speaking from personal experience not pulling the info from my ass). Also the prices are rising now that people notice the price and the service you get.
That fish festival was probably Santo António! It's a saint's day where there's a lot of partying and festivities around. You should have come to Porto for the São João! It was two days ago, there were sardines and little hammers as far as the eye could see :) I definitely encourage you to visit us next, it's a lovely city.
What a coincidence! I was in lisbon when you published this! I have also eaten the pasteis de belem, it was very nice especially with some cinnamon. I also went to the marked and ate cold glass noodles with salmon, delicious! So funny that you upload this exactly on the same time I was there!
Love this! I'm Portuguese (from Lisbon) living in Dublin for 8 years now. And oh man our pastries and food and wine oh it's all so good, miss it all the time p-s Those pasteis nata (de Belém) ARE without a doubt the best custard tarts in the world.
Each and every dish being showed tickled my finger to "like" the video, ooops, wait, I already "liked" it just by the title. Thank you for such a nice video, my Saturday is very filling now :)
You are so lucky ! I am amazed with the rare opportunity that you got ~ :) I am a big fan of this custard tart, and now I am so satisfied knowing the process behind it :)
I simply love this video of yours! I think you should really delve into our Portuguese delicacies and perhaps take some ideas for your meditarranean recipes, who knows? Although many of our traditional dishes seem too heavy... there are so many to die for, SERIOUSLY! Pastéis de Nata suits in that category perfectly as you could tell! I really enjoyed watching your enthusiasm throughout the video towards our culture! Thanks for your fantastic channel that provides so many awesome ideas for home made meals ^^ Obrigada!
Lovely to see Lisbon again even if just virtually, I really miss it! Of course you had to go to Casa Pasteis, heh. I have to confess, you can buy a pastel de nata anywhere in Lisbon so before I tried the one at Casa Pasteis I was quite sceptical because people went on and oooon as it's the best ever...safe to say they earned their good reputation and it's the best I ever had. Looks like you had a great time in Lisbon!
It's not a sardine festival! It's the celebration of the city's saint. They do those kind of parties all over the country (on the 23rd of June they celebrate Sao João (saint john) in Oporto), I believe you were dragged for the celebration of Santo Antonio in Lisbon. It basically starts on the 30th of may, the main day being the evening of the 12th of June (Santo Antonio's day is on the 13th, it is considered a holiday in Lisbon) and it ends in the 30th of June. There are loads of neighbourhoods around Lisbon who have those kind of small parties. They are really great and cheerful, everybody is happy, from children to old people. Hope you enjoyed your time here :)
