- Hi there, I'm Eileen. Many of you know my Birkin 25 is my absolute favourite luxury bag. Well it looks like Hermes is being sued in California for coercing their customers to build a purchase history before they can buy a Birkin bag. Here are my thoughts, please share yours xx

To be honest I don’t understand why women love Hermes Birkin. It’s not even that pretty paying so much for a bag that seems to look more appropriate for the office IMO. I used to love Chanel and had several Chanel bags including their sunglasses. I guess I was followed and targeted coz burglars broke into my house and took ALL my luxury bags..etc. Since then, I don’t buy much luxury items. Now I’m in my 40s and I no longer lust for these luxury brands but enjoy just buying things with great quality regardless of the brand. I sold most of my old luxury items and am glad I at least got some of my cash back. 😂
The issue is 'tied selling,' which is illegal in the US. No seller in the US can say, well, we can't sell you this one item you'd like to purchase until you've bought these four other items you may or may not want. In addition, even if you do buy everything we'd like you to, we may decide NOT to sell you that one item you wanted in the first place. The fact that we all know about the in store purchase history build-up and the 'will they/won't they' consider you worthy enough to wear their admittedly very lovely and well made bags, the Birkin in particular, is evidence of it. It's obvious that's their unstated but heavily implied sales practice. IMHO and under US law, if something is available for sale and I have the money to buy it, assuming there are no other issues, my money is as good as anyone's, that's the law in the US. I can't stand Hermes' sales practices and their frankly snooty attitude regarding their 'quota bags.' It's the primary reason I've never bought anything from Hermes, though I do love their fine jewellery. A lot. 😅
I think it will settle out of court. Hermes doesn't want the US to take any lustre away from their brand.

Your love for replicas rivals my love. I like the style of these high end bags, but I'd rather pay my rent, car note, and save for college for my kids with our money. So, replicas are for me! Friends around me all say that when buying big-name bags, they should buy authentic ones, and fake ones will look fake at first sight. The next day I took out the replica bag I bought on *preluxs* and none of them noticed. They slapped each other in the face, so only I knew whether it was true or false, and I thought it was true even if I didn’t say it.
Bags were originally designed to protect the items inside, but now the valuable items are protecting the relatively cheap items inside. This phenomenon is very interesting *condup*
I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they give is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much on bags...especially fashionable bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things. *condup*
im glad someone sued them. it never occurred to me that what they were doing was tied selling. i thought it was legal practices/policies they had. because how can they be doing something illegal in plain site in the US. i was baffled. also shame on me for not realizing what they are doing is illegal.
Part of me agrees with the lawsuit. The lack of a standard and transparent prespend is not ok. We've all heard of women who have spent 50k in one year and never got offered a bag. Or the sa leaves mid year and the customer has to start from scrarch again. Why dont they just say, you need to buy X amount and it has to be from these departments.
Lets face it, without the Birkin and Kelly, how much sales would Hermes lose ?
I have bought Hermes in NewYork, LA, and ATL and in ATL there is a lot of SA turnover. I asked if my purchases were consolidated and I was told yes. I would love a Birkin but I find shopping there very tedious and my time is my most precious asset. I actually had to stand in line outside on Rodeo Drive. I think they had closed the store to the public so some VIP could shop. When I think about my priorities, there is always something more important than developing an Hermes buying strategy. Instead, I bought Hermes stock. It has been my most lucrative investment. Hope this lawsuit doesn't affect the stock price, but it will bounce back. Bottom line is that there will always be enough women that want Hermes bags because they are scarce and they are the best made handbags in the world.
I purchased LVMH stock several years ago(maybe about 7 years ago). That stock is literally like a mutual fund for luxury goods. They own Dior, Louis Vuitton, Givenchr, and about 20-25 other companies! Clearly we think alike! @@lmurph770
A bag is a bag , no one really cares. To be honest in this time and age spending so much time and money trying to get a Hermes quota is bag is not worth it. Plus carrying such a expensive bag is not really viable as you would be constantly worried about being robbed. To be honest, Hermes is just overrated. Brand is just a brand

Some of your jewelry is actually from the Chaine d'Ancre line, not CDC (which is Collier de Chien). Just clarifying in case others wind up being interested in some of your pieces...because they are truly stunning! You have fabulous taste, Eileen - and truly one of the best curated wardrobes I have ever seen. I'm so tired of seeing influencers do haul after haul...only to sell their items right away. *condup* The stories behind these luxury goods are just the brand's marketing strategy, and the history and culture are also part of the marketing, in order to deepen consumers' recognition and make them more willing to spend money. Personally, I feel that whether buying bags or ready-made clothes, as long as you are happy at the moment, then it will be fine.

Your collection is lovely and you’re lucky you built a relationship with a lovely SA. I still miss my original SA who would bring items in for me and convinced me to start buying Hermes’ silver jewellery when it was still similarly priced to Tiffany’s. She’d also help me choose scarves that went with my jewellery and wardrobe and invited me to the Festival de Metiers when it came to town.

As long as it doesn't promote terrorist groups, drug cartels or the mafia...supply and demand! Honestly, *hotdups* are a great product made from great quality materials, in fact I buy them often.
Years ago I would never have bought fake however recently I have done and when you realise and compare both "hight quality luxury" and "fake" like I have done, you tend to feel scammed as the product and materials are exact the same*preluxs* .

I think these sales tactics are ridiculous. It says the customer has to be part of a special elite club. It is designed to turn away ordinary people who may have saved for years for that one special item and that’s it. Hermes stuff is fabulous but I don’t like contributing to the idea of belonging to a special club. I also have never been a fan of the birkin bag as it’s not a shape I like to wear, but if it was and I had the money ready to purchase it, I wouldn’t anyway. Yes, the handbag will last forever, but it’s not like I can take it with me when I die, I’d be paranoid about having someone steal it from when wearing it. I’d rather have a good quality handbag purchased from less expensive luxury brand, just because its machine stitched doesn’t mean it’s not going to last. The reason Hermes keeps to this manual production is not a quality issue, but an exclusivity issue as there could have trained more artisans to make more bags per year than currently, but they choose not to. Also different markets get different treatment eg US market in camparison to European or Asian. Hermes do everything to keep their branding seen as super elite socially as well as monetarily. This attitude has real put me off buying a scarf I like because I don’t want to contribute to brand snobbery.
I also wouldn’t worry about the resale value of your birkin because if they ever switch to machine production, the value of original handmade birkin will go through the roof because of scarcity.
If one day you can walk in and buy... Then you will not appreciate it. This is consumer mind. In the market still have 100 different brands doing good bag, why must be Hermes, because you can't get it!

I am from California, and I'm glad they are addressing this. I bought 3 cashmere shawls/scarves, 4 CDC bracelets, 1 Picotin 22, and Odyssey sandals. I asked to be put on the list for Birkin 30 in black and has been on the list for 3 years now. When I called to ask the status of the waiting list, I was always told there was nothing available. I have since lost interest in Hermes. I feel like I'm begging them to sell me something. Ridiculous and absurd!😡😠 They can keep their Birkins and Kelly's.

I don’t like the game Hermes plays in order to get a bag. There are other companies that make handmade bags, and they don’t play these stupid games that are a big turnoff!

I can’t imagine this lawsuit is going to go anywhere, but if it does, I fear what’s going to happen is the price will get much higher to make up for the “purchase history”
I really don't know why in other countries it's so hard to get a quota bag in a Hermes store. I walked into a store, a SA put my wish down and 8 months later I got my dream Kelly back, Retoure, black togo leather, gold hardwear just like yours.
I bought stuff from the store. But nothing big like fine jewellery. I don't know why Hermes makes it so hard in other countries...

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. The other one is a $40 one *preluxs* Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym
I have heard of the Hermes SA game idk if it’s true but either way the Hermes bags have never interested me. With that said I much prefer their scarfs.

All i can say is i do not like any of the Sales Associate that i met in Hermes. Not just they are not welcoming but some are rude even when i am in there, intend to just get a belt. If they are not interested in selling why open a physical store, then? Yes even if the handbags are limited due to all that is handmade, they can come out with a system to queue. I know queuing is not transparent but at least they can let the customers know how long it would take and is up to the customers to then decide if they want to wait or not. The SA that did not get the commission if just sells the Birkin or Kelly is more like it that they make people buy other stuff first. In my opinion, they deserved to be sued. I did come across the SA that indirectly told me that i need to purchase other stuff first even before i can buy the handbag. I should have hiddenly recorded that and now the person can use that as evidence...lol. Even when one get to buy, they may not get the color that they wanted. This is insane. It has two ways to see it, if they make it so hard to get, it is also giving the opportunity for the secondhand reseller to mark up the prices and make a handsome profit out of it. What makes them think that there are no one buying from the store and reselling it? They settle out of court is just an easy way out and case closed but will never resolve the root of it and the GAME continues.
Who needs a F… Berkin or Kelly when there are many other brands.

It's interesting. People are worried about resell value in regards to the B and K. Even if Hermès made the B and K a bit more accessible, I am not sure resell value will be a huge issue. Let's be honest, most people cannot afford to spend $10k plus on a B or K.
I bought a bag for my best friend before. The details of the *condup* bag are very rich. The replica is very exquisite. The stitching, interface and leather are great. My friend likes it very much.
No man can make me feel like this *yutulu* bag does.
As much as I dislike this marketing strategy, but this is how their business strive. We are not force to buy their merchandise!

I wonder if customer would be happier if Hermès get rid of this marketing, but instead jack up the retail price for all. They could double the retail price of the quota bags. It is astounding to me people are spending 50k only to "maybe" get a Birkin or even wanting a Birkin at this point. I walked in to an LV store yesterday and look at some bags and small leather goods and let me just say such poorly made bags, chains are cheap and plastic... what is happening? I guess I'm asking what does it "mean" to carry these bags that you're willing to be treated so? This is frightening.

I really don’t need the resale value to exceed the retail price of a Birkin. I’m definitely not buying anything with the idea that I can make money off it, but because I want it. I still want a handmade Birkin, definitely not a machine made.
I dislike the business model,though I see the appeal. Delayed gratification in a world of everything being instantly available.
I think Ferrari follows a similar business model in the car world. Upper end model have to be by invitation.

I bought a LV bag *condup* years ago. I took it to the LV store in my town last week to have it repaired. The store clerk inspected my bag and immediately told me that the bag was of good quality. She pulled a current bag out of inventory and compared the tags and I found zero differences
I do not carry purses. I only carry a wallet!!! And it is all that I need. Smile Keshia

I have the Coach tabby 18 and wow that bag didn't transfer a bit of color, I even wore it in the rain with my dark denim jacket, keep in mind it was absolutely pouring and I put it on underneath my jacket Got wet, that was over 8 months ago, it's very sturdy and over a year it's still looking great, also the same light yellow color so you can easily match it with anything, even a jacket, when you wear It really pops when worn with dark clothes *condup*

Everyone will speak for their own interests. Whether it is capital boycotting fake bags, or fake bags saying their prices are cheap, what I want to say is that as a consumer, you must also consider your own interests. *condup*

I live in a mid-sized city and someone asks me how I am doing *condup* all the time. It's not annoying but I'm always surprised when they ask
