I've sold a few bags recently and had some decent offers but also some CRAZY low offers...it's always the same reseller who gives ridiculous quotes! Won't mention them by name but the first word starts with L and the second starts with C😂 If you know, you know! I offered them a new Alma BB in epi leather. It has been used ONCE, just for a couple of hours...it's in pristine condition! and was bought from LV in February. It has everything with it...box, dust bag, receipt. They wanted to give me £450 for it!! They were going to list it for £1,250! No thanks mate 😂
The resellers are ridiculous. That's why I sell all my stuff on eBay. They have zero final fees offers from time to time and free listings so costs me nothing and I sell for the price I want.

These resellers are taking the p**s. I never find something I want but at a good price. I see a lot of bags over retail that are beat up and readily available, like a Gucci marmont over retail when you can get one easily or an LV slg that’s in stock at way over retail. I sell in the way you did and go on if communication etc is good too and I love it when a friend buys from me as you know both parties have good intentions. I’m really glad for you it went well x

Hey dear. Don't worry. I sold my hg too. A chanel cf and a mini rectangle classic lamb which was so hard to get and I was offered that but it's ok. I tell myself a bag is just a bag. So it's ok, we have bags that come and go. I wasn't happy with my new cf med cavier because the flap is loop sided and I wanted a perfect piece as for the mini lamb top handle mini cf, the bag is so delicate for my lifestyle so I'm ok with it too.😊life is short just be happy.

I’ve loved the taupe colored bags that you’ve sold, especially the Capucines with the exotic handle. However, what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. We’ve all been there. I’m sure something that suits you better will come around soon. 😊

I believe you made the right decision. I hear that the market is pretty stagnant at the moment so getting a good price may be difficult depending on how the business is doing. I lost money because a consignment shop I used went out of business a while back.

Yep it was very special for me to ensure it went to a nice home. Yes I might have got more for it by being more patient or offering it to the highest bidder etc but that is not me x
I stay away from resellers nowadays. They really lowball these days. I can easily sell it on my own, just a bit more work to do. Good job selling the Birkin!! I always feel so free and satisfied whenever I sell something I don't use. Xx

The preloved market is very saturated and I feel like some reseller companies are expecting way too much for Hermes bags. And for Chanel they are offering crazy low prices & selling them for loads!!!

Just saying dont buy bags you are not completely sure to love and wear till the end. Times are changing. Selling is for desperate people who needs fast cash. More like pawn shops really.
Have an birkin gold on gold as new that I never really liked. Tried fashionphile,think their offer was about 60 grand(!!)😅
So,yes most have alot inventory and can buy from desperate or clueless people. Thats what I mean with think more than twice.

I figured you’d sell it someday! It seems like a trophy that once has been hunted and mounted loses its appeal. They’re big heavy, boring bags that mainly have their status going for them. Looking forward to finishing watching the video!

You have done the right thing ❤ I sell my bags fairly frequently and honestly I have only three or four regrets over a period of twelve years. I love bags and change them out but I dont like feeling swamped by possessions. I have had lovely feedback from buyers who have just been delighted to get a good quality item for a reasonable price and it is a lovely feeling.

I got shot of a large Mulberry and a Coach bag . One was just two big ,( I have grown out of the whole over size thing now ) and the other I just wasn't grabbing for ! Held onto them for ages , kidding myself that I needed them , but now they are gone I realise I had vastly overestimated my overall emotional attachment to both !! It's so funny how our needs can change , for example I always used to buy body hugging sloppy slouch style bags , but now I'm much more into structured bags , I find them more elegant, flattering and I love the way they sit looking pretty on a table and ease of access they give ! 🙏❤️💋

Some resellers are really ridiculous! We also have such a preloved boutique in the city (Frankfurt/Germany) they want to give you 10-12000 for a Birkin and sell it for 26000 Euro at their store! I always wonder who is so desperate and bring their bags to them...

You made the right move. Yes resellers are running a business so they will double what ever the buyout price is. That is what I expect…..we are always better off selling to someone direct. Thats what I did..and a did sell a couple via resellers where I got less then if I sold it myself but I just didn’t feel like worrying about the mail and all of that stuff so it is what it is. You won’t regret selling that Birken at all as you have 3 others and I still know you will get another Hermes bag or 2 in the future.

I don’t think it’s a mistake to sell it. You have another Birkin 30 and it frees up money to buy something you will use.
I once sold a seasonal Chanel via a reseller I like and it turns out someone I sort of know via social media, had bought it for their mum who adored it. That made me happy as I knew it would be treasured and used. It’s a nice feeling

Honestly, I’m very glad you found a buyer and everything worth out! But hearing all of it consolidate the fact that I am not seeing my bags as investment at all. I don’t have a platform and I would never sell any of my bag by myself. The amount of the offers right now are absolutely not worth it for the most past. I had really slowed down when it comes to buying bags because of it. If they don’t work for me, most of them would be a huge loss in this market. I own many Hermès bags and I know I will not sell any,unless, I really, really dislike a bag. They are staying with me ,so I’m conflicted about what to tell you. ha ha I cannot say it was a bad or good decision, time will tell!

retail mark up on anything is usually 100% - its pretty standard tbh it might seem unfair but that's the nature of re-selling ANYTHING - sounds like you did what was right for you and re-sellers are right for other people who might just think - I just want to sell it quickly - no faffing around / no social network / just give me cash to go

You absolutely made the right decision Deb and it’s okay that you made money on the transaction, just as the lady who bought it from you will also make money if she ever decides to sell it. What’s shocking to me is the difference in price on the reseller market, VC for example, between the Birkin 25 and the Birkin 30. It makes no sense that the 25 is priced so exorbitantly just because it’s more popular. It’s not a little difference, it’s huge! Anyway, I’m so happy for you! Now run right out and get that beautiful Fendi First you and Steph tried on when you were shopping together!! That’s what I would do! 💁🏼♀️

If it didn’t work for you (and you do have others in that size that you do love) then there’s no reason to keep it. There are lots of holy grail Birkins on the preloved market so clearly they’re being sold. Put the money toward something that speaks to you!

If you only had that one it might’ve been different but as you say, you have others you prefer to carry, that you really enjoy. Regarding sales, I think people see the resale price and assume they will get an offer from the Consignment store that’s not much lower when reality is they’re offering much lower. It was nice to sell it to someone you could meet.

I noticed that you commented that you'd never have the opportunity to buy a Birkin again and I don't think that's true at all. You could always try buying in France or when you go to New York or anywhere else for that matter. You never know. If you like Hermes, have patience, a positive attitude and keep trying.

I just find your definition of a pre-spend a little confusing for those who aren't familiar with the way Hermes does business. You believe that you never pre-spent and you may have gotten your first bag without purchasing anything prior to purchasing the bag but then you spent and were offered other bags. That's pre-spending.
@marlenepopov8469 you seem very interested in this. I have explained that I did not have a big purchase history when I was offered my first bag. I have bought bits over the years but only things I wanted and never anything to be offered a bag. My whole purchase history over the years is very small compared to many people. I have never for example spent a ratio of 1:1 or 2:1 which other people have done in order to be offered a bag. Hope this clears it up. X

Market is soft and many owners want to "release" their money in their handbags (so resellers don't want to hold too much inventory, and resale prices may fall too for them). As you say, people shouldn't buy bags thinking they'll get their money back because that is uncertain and the resale prices we see are mostly inflated for resellers/intermediaries' fees as well. Buy as if you won't see that money again

I would expect a reseller to offer half of what they are going to sell for. The reason is because in retail the wholesale price that a retailer pays is half of the list price or the retail price . So I don’t think that was an insult. That is the formula. The first one that you spoke with was very generous or she thought she could sell it for a lot more

Thank you for your question - I have been told by couple of SA’s not to keep them in box as they need to breathe. It probably makes a difference that we live in UK so we don’t get really humid temperatures x
Resellers are weird. I bought a Cartier bracelet from the boutique and found the same bracelet on a well known reseller site priced at $1000 over retail while claiming that the retail price was even higher.

@@Wildunfiltered no kidding. Prices are all over the place. It’s pretty deceptive to list the “retail price” to be higher than the actual retail price of an item. Sometimes resellers may not know for sure, like with Hermes bags. But not with Cartier where you can the exact same bracelet from the brand website for less and get the experience. At least in the boutique I got to try a whole range of products and sizes, compare them, all while chatting with an SA and my daughter was occupied coloring in the Cartier branded coloring book.
