When you are the best at wht you do, there is nothing wrong with lifting another (others) as you soar. Sometimes it's not about winning the prize, but allowing the person (s) behind us to realize his/her full potential. This young lady thought about her teamate, and selflessly showed her wht many of us do not have. She showed her love, compassion and the true meaning of teamwork. God bless you.
LDS Girl Yes, that is obvious. However, in this meet her finish time literally means nothing. It’s 100% about place, which is why she was urging her teammate on, to get a better team score. This is not a personal sacrifice situation you think it is. She locked up first place points for her college team and was trying to ensure her team also got second place points instead of third place points.
Morgan Staskiewicz She wins when the team wins and loses when the team loses. It’s in her best interest to help her teammate. Your understanding of selflessness is inaccurate. Don’t get me wrong. She did the right thing. She was being a leader. But not sacrificing in any way. Actually the opposite. Furthermore, there was no reason or opportunity to “sacrifice”.
5PercentTint I’m sure she means well, but personally if a teammate who is better than me is helping me pace a 1-2 in a conference championship meet, I wouldn’t want that teammate to constantly yell in my ear at me wanting to close while I’m having one of the races of my life. I feel like it was condescending to me. But hey, if the teammate doesn’t feel offended, that’s fine.
Blocking was probably the only way they were going to beat Receveur since she was the 5K Big Ten Champion two years in a row going into this and ran a blistering 15:28 back in 2017.
Quick question , is it legal to work as a team so the runner in 3rd cannot pass? I was not sure what the strategy was in this final Sprint..I assume to finish 1st and 2nd is more points ?
Charles Kennedy It’s not really illegal, if it’s controversial or raised a lot of backlash. The athlete could be disqualified for bad sportsmanship. I don’t really think they are boxing her in? I’ve been to multiple competition, when someone gradually move diagonally to block me... I just go around them and try my best.
Lmaooo Alicia Monson was just chillin'
She just ran a 14:31 5k so this is probably like a tempo run for her now 😂
@@xavierr1898 Oh damn I didn’t know she got that fast now 😂 That’s amazing
bro she's raw lol a 16:00 is conversation pace for her
"Conversation pace" LMAO! Next race she can read War and Peace, and write a book report. Thast was GREAT to watch.
That is true team work right there👏🏽✊🙏🏽
Dayyyymn she made that look easy a 16min race is no walk in the park. Looked like she had plenty left in the tank🙌🏽
I know... for a moment I thought she was going to jump behind her and push.

LDS Girl But she did win the prize. She still finished first.
Lol. Yes...I should have explained better. She won, but her finished time would've been alot better if she was selfish.

J K so she was still being selfless by thinking about the TEAM score not her personal best is basically just said

What an amazing, inspiring display of more than mere teamwork, that is leadership! Way to go!
I can't love this enough.

Love the commentator. Great call and recognition of what was going on.
Great video ,
Cheers from Chile
On Wisconsin!
Monson is legend.
Sisterhood personified, great stuff :)
Fabulous...
A true athlete showing her care for another. I so greatly admire our women athletes. It's great to see them showing their amazing abilities.
Haters in these comments be hated because they don't got a friend like her 💜
and the question is, Alex, "what are you most unlikely to see in a men's race?"

Charles Kennedy it’s legal, but frowned upon by some
Zodiachilles gotcha thx
Charles Kennedy .. It's just race tactics, it's called "boxing" someone in
DJQuikSilva gotcha thx
Charles Kennedy

Tbh they should give at least 14 of those 18 points to her 😂
Sleep with your teammates for prime performance!
scott lee you’re saying that she slept with her teammate?
So scott, you a pitcher or a catcher?
monson a junior cheering a senior? weird dynamic. especially the hug at the end
Geez I wish I could take the girl who got 3rd on a date 😁
Because she’s first in my eyes.😍
