Adding one or two Lothern Sea Guard units is great in the back line. Defense against cavalry charge but still contribute to your arrow volleys while sitting in the rear. I agree, not an efficient frontline unit.
I tend to bring 1-2 LSG as well. In pairs, they are great as bookends to your archer backline. Once I get a steady supply of Sisters of Avelorn, I'll still keep a single LSG unit to babysit my bolt throwers from flyers, flankers, and spawned units.
1. I like to play with Ultimate Warband Upgrade so I can upgrade my starting army to higher tier troops instead of disbanding them mid-late game. I really, really hate disbanding trrops that have soldiered with me for 'years' just because I can recruit higher tier troops. Yes, it does make the game easier 2. My go-to recruited first lord(s) as HE are an efficient Prince with an Archmage tagging along. The savings from the efficient prince, especially if you transfer in Tyrions Silver Helms and LSG plus add a couple of Eagle Claws, means the Archmage is essentially free upkeep/damage.
Don't forget about Swordmasters of Hoeth. They are shock troops that can tear up infantry. Due to their general fragility for an elite unit, they do their job best when flanking. Not quite as trash as in TWWH2 but not really worth having more than a few in your armies.
I disagree the Sisters of Avalon archers are OP and should always be used when possible ,they 1vs3 carried my army while only owning 7 of them and Zeroed the Vampire lvl 30 lords health like an Death Star laser ,always use OP units ,Archers don’t need high Armour if they won’t be attacked in the first place
They run into trouble against enemies with lots of armor and/or physical resist, and a good offensive spellcaster might ruin their day too. That's too many potential problems to rely on them for the full campaign, but when they work they are really effective.
I play all of my battles, so i don't care about auto resolve performance. The high elves do not have to stick to the defensive playstyle that they have easy access too via their main settlement building. in most cases the optimal way to play is spears and archers which lets you maximize growth and money in your settlements. however the high elves have a number of hero and lord traits which can stack up to make any unit you like excel even if its from another faction. you can boost your own units so that tier 3 is competitive with tier 5. at tier three you have access to almost every tool in the game, and they are the best faction to play cross faction alliance builds with bar none.
I think they are a fantastic unit and statistically the best line holder on the roster. They have: -30% physical damage resist -causes fear -charge defense against all -bonus vs large -armor piercing -martial mastery -the highest base leadership and armor of any High Elf infantry unit However, they require a T5 Shrine and have higher upkeep than spearmen. This relegates them to mid-to-late game, and tbh they aren't really necessary. Yes, they will make life far easier than spearmen will, but even in the later stages spearmen will usually be able to hold the line long enough for the damage dealers to do their job. My cookie cutter late game army is 1 Lord, 1 Hero, 4 Phoenix Guard, 2 Swordmasters, 5 Sisters, 1 LSG, 2 Dragon Princes, 2 Bolt Throwers (18 total) + 2 wild cards (Reaver Archers, Shadow Warriors, a flying monster, another hero, etc.) depending on what the lord/hero combination is. For some reason I've never been a big fan of chariots. /shrug
There is no point in armoured archers. If you need extra armour for them, you do archers wrong. Other than that, you just pay a little extra every turn for nothing, throwing money to the wind. And usually you have about 5-6 archers at least in the very beginning of a campaign, so why not spent some of these extra money for something more important? Don't buy armoured archers like ever.

With this video, all my favourite factions are covered. This is a great series and I will continue to watch it. You are doing a fine job!

I struggle to slot heros into a high elf army when i can just put a star dragon in their place.

For Asuryan!
My favorite faction by far bar the Skaven and the Empire.
Finally a good reason to take the armored archers. Better auto resolved. Thanks!

1lord, 1Hero, 1 bolt thrower, 17 Lothern Seaguard. Bingo.

@@rodh1404 thing is you can have two armies for the same price as a super duper one, and as for cheesing sieges 😀
😂❤😂@@rodh1404
I love these videos, hope you do Skaven video soon yes-yes :D
Cav is great in campaign, even 1 unit can make the ai go to sh*t lol

I’m new to Total War and your videos have been immensely helpful.
What are your thoughts on phoenix guard units?
Kinda meh really.

Do you play Warhammer three multiplayer campaign with subscribers
I'm not a fan of armoured archers, the convenience of base archers is hard to pass up and I'd rather build other buildings early on.
