Left handed shooter here. Ambi slide releases I’ve found are a hit and miss affair. The left side always works perfectly, but for some manufacturers, you can tell the right side is an afterthought. Glock for instance, only the extended slide stop for the G34 works properly. The others, you can almost never get the leverage to release the slide using the lever on the right side. Haven’t used a Canik, so I can’t speculate as to how well their ambi slide releases work.
Hello @GBGuns, how would you compare racking this Canik Rival-S compared to the Mete SFX and to the Canik TP9 SA? Does it take about the same amount of strength, more or less to rack?
Steel Frame Strikers NEED to be a trend in 2023. I think Anderson does a SF 19 Gen 3 clone right? Would be neat to see more variations on the SF striker pistol.
I absolutely love my Rival and I love the looks of this. I’m glad Canik made this, but I love the weight of my Rival with the Taylor Freelance brass back strap, magwell and baseplate. I also love the flex of polymer, so I’m not as anxious about getting one of these just yet. I’d love to see your shooting impressions vs the Rival
I own 5 canik models I love them all some break in a little harder but after that they are awesome they come with some of the best if not the best factory triggers on the market.
I have been a huge Canik Fanatik for years and this one put the spark back in me. Looking forward to seeing this in the wild and then my hands. Thank you 👉💨
I gotta say turkish made pistols have taken me by surprise, i never thought they would be as good as i have experienced, and it's not just one brand either. SAR,CANIK,TISAS, Stoeger, and Girsan make some serious quality pistols, i knew of the Canik's they where not such a shock but a Girsan 1911 i bought simply because of price ended up being an excellent 1911 and not just for the money, i just checked out their Beretta clone pistol and was shocked even more over it's quality than their 1911's, these things are seriously good stuff. Btw could you please review the savage 1911's that where just released?

The SFX Rival Steel is actually a 6th generation of the SFX line. There's a TP9 SFX Mod.2 (and a TP9 SF Mod.2) released overseas but Century Arms never brought it to the US for whatever reason. The original SF and SFX got discontinued overseas years ago. The Mod.2 variants feature ambidextrous slide-releases like all newer Canik models. The OG versions don't have a lever on the right side and the one on the left side is smaller compared to the Mod.2 versions.
dude your baseball mitt hand in the thumbnail makes this gun look like a subcompact. These look like hand cannons in my hand. Although I don't compete, I appreciate what Canik offers with their generous prices. I may never get to shoot them enough to find out if they don't last, but when I do use them, I get the best results i can put out on a casual day at the range. It's nice to see they have durable versions. So many new guns have had growing pains last year. I did notice though, the machining on the edges around the optic plate was not clean at all. Not the biggest problem but my only concern would be tiny stress cracking. I ran a zeal paladin in D2, did enough clicking so i should be good

@@GBGuns Yeah he's a skinnier dude who wears loose clothing already so I don't really think a pistol of this size would be TOO big of an issue. However, I initially recommended him some stuff between the size of SAR B6C and K100 maybe even Hi Power but he came to like everything about the Q5 Match SF save the price lol. He's been looking into getting a firearm of his own for a little while because of the rising crime rates, living alone, and being a delivery driver in his own car at the time. We've been to the range a few times and he has become proficient with pistols and is actually a decent shot now too. Any recommendations for a good Mid-Full size 9mm pistol for a 150lb 5'10" dude who wears jeans and a hoodie year round? The split would likely be 40/40/20 for home, car, and on person carry.
@@robkam643400 Yeah I have a whole Excel list of recommendations for him to look at and there were a couple like that. Particularly the SAR 2000, P8L, Jericho 941 and a couple others which are more widely available/in stock than the EAA Witness 9mm stuff.
Great review. I've got the brass backstrap, brass baseplates and TLR7 With the SFT PRO. It's incredibly smooth and keeps the muzzle climb down. I imagine that steel frame would take that smoothness even further
The TP9 series started out as a P99 clone, then evolved, somewhat following the PPQ, with the METE line they set their construction apart enough that I see it more like an alternate-universe Walther.

This gun, then I just saw the RIA 5.0, and who knows what else is around the corner.. Maybe even a unicorn like a sub $1000 2011 and not just a beefy decent A2. I know they are coming off the success of the Rival by making it steel but I hope they do steel in some of their other models.
Oh yeah, those 10# triggers are great, a lot of pros even go with 15# triggers. Also they say it's forged, looks like a sand casting to me. But I couldn't swear to that.
So does the chrome come with the co witness plate too? (Looked like yours might have) Or just the dark side? I’ve been calling everywhere and nowhere near me has one in stock yet lol
Canik is doing big things love canik and my mete I wanna see them redefine there compact handguns maybe even sub-compact I carry my mete very rarely on days of mostly sub compact or compact I'd prolly carry it more I love the size of my g48 mos make one slim size like that I'm in
I also want to know if it’s a cast or forged frame. Which would be hilarious if it’s cast given how much their marketing literature puts “Forged” on everything.
How does the felt recoil compare between the steel frame and the polymer that flexes? If one could add comparable weight via backstrap and weighted light to the polymer version would the felt recoil be better with the polymer?
@@GBGuns I thought it was funny that on sootch00 channel the Rival-S was compared to the Mete because he had given his Rival to a friend to use. Given that you said you had seen the Rival-S a few months ago I would have thought sootch00 had plenty of time to get his Rival back from his friend in time to do a comparison between the Rival and Rival-S which is the comparison that all want to see. I think there may be more to the story as to why he could not use his Rival to compare to the Rival-S.
I can't speak to what Sootch did or why. We were among the first to see this gun as part of our publisher's (magazines) annual event. I didn't have one to review until the day this was filmed.
I'm a fan of the Rival Dark Side, my only nagging issue with it is coming to it after 2 decades carring/shooting a Dan Wesson .44 (mostly with the 6 and 8" VH barrels, 10 is hunting with its scope, and for me the small barrels stay in the case) is it just feels to light in the hand. Guess I get to make her day as she loves the Rival we have and my FFL's day when I order a Rival-S Dark Side. *Sigh* The cost of loves can add up... LOL
Beefy boy. Love it. I’m in. I have a Bul armory SAS 2 Air that I love EXCEPT it has a polymer grip. I’ve never been a fan of light frames or grips on “race” guns, or target oriented guns.
@@GBGuns I bought it before spending any time shooting it. Essentially an Impulse purchase. It became available second hand and I jumped on it since they are impossible to find at shops. I asked Bul if I could buy the aluminum grip module that is available on a few of their higher end guns and they refused to sell it to me. They said “it wouldn’t fit without gunsmith modification and would void my warranty”, and I told them that is fine. They still refused and offered me the brass mag well to add weight. I bought it and it’s an improvement but I still want more weight. I briefly considered buying a Cheeley grip but I’ve ultimately decided just to sell it. I will use the proceeds for a DWX or a Czechmate. It’s a great gun. It’s milled for a 507c and I shoot it quite well, but I prefer the balance and feel of my Shadow 2 with a steel frame and aluminum grip panels.
@@GBGuns You are very lucky, my friend, I envy you :D it is produced in our country, but the procedures that need to be fulfilled are very demanding, and that is why it is very difficult to own weapons, but in your country it is not so difficult, you can almost have the weapon you want much easier
12 oz difference in weight from the average carry. Really is a lot to consider if you’re thinking in terms of an edc, but for competition or home defense, or if you’re a large fella that doesn’t mind the extra weight and length, then it’s a no/brained for an msrp of $900. Really considering replacing my M&p 2.0 with it, as I’m a “tall and heavy fella”. Lol
Can your request new all-white cerakoted Girsan M92 and Hi-Power clones for a review? And Miami-themed cerakoted Caniks? They all look shockingly good. Also, new red-dot-milled Girsan Beretta clones and (again) Girsan 2311 in 10mm and 6 inch longslide 10mm by them and their compact red-dot capable 1911s. Huge request, but those new Turkish guns are just amazing.

So why do you have a SAS 2 Air?
Thanks GB. Great job. Good info. God bless.
LETS GO BRANDON
Did you prefer Turkish weapons because they are of high quality or because they are cheap
I prefer the firearm I can get my hands on. Canik has excellent quality at an affordable price.
@@GBGuns You are very lucky, my friend, I envy you :D it is produced in our country, but the procedures that need to be fulfilled are very demanding, and that is why it is very difficult to own weapons, but in your country it is not so difficult, you can almost have the weapon you want much easier
You should try diablo 2 Resurrected. Alot of fun.
how the heck do I find one of these?
We've linked to what we've found in the article (pinned comment)
12 oz difference in weight from the average carry. Really is a lot to consider if you’re thinking in terms of an edc, but for competition or home defense, or if you’re a large fella that doesn’t mind the extra weight and length, then it’s a no/brained for an msrp of $900.
Really considering replacing my M&p 2.0 with it, as I’m a “tall and heavy fella”. Lol
canik mc9 is coming out in march look it up. very small edc but will all the canik benefits
😯👍👍 VERYGOOD sudyord

🤣 check for clear on a gun that was already checked for clear min before ...
I do that for the folks to get upset the other way around, and for RUclips compliance folks since I have to have EVERY video manually reviewed.
Requests are up to our Patrons
Fucking can't wait to get my hands on one to go along with my rival and elite SC!
I guess I have to get one of these now. Who needs financial stability anyway.
