I also have the Canik Rival s in grey and love it. Even though it to almost 5 months to find one it was worth it. I have the 507-comp mounted on it and the trigger is great.
I live in Ocala Florida. I looked for a year. I could have ordered it but I rather have bought it local as soon as I saw. It I snatched it absolutely love it
The Canik SFX Rival Dark Side is a damn good pistol. The trigger is amazing straight out of the box. Canik listens to their customers and competition shooters. This pistol is worth every penny!
I have the rival dark side and the only problem I've had is I bent the spring for the slide release and it would lock back when shooting. I bent the spring back and now it works flawlessly again.
I've seen the strikers from both a Darkside and TTI Combat with the deformation issue. Trying to find as many folks as I can with these guns and high round count, to see how wide spread the issue is and if any failures have come from it.
@outrider212 so far mine is good I've put thousands more rounds through it since this video as well. Not saying it's not happening but I thought mainly just with the new tti combat.
Hey man how'd you do the ports? Did you just drill it? Or did you use a mill? I'm guessing you just tossed that barrel in a drill press and I don't really see why that wouldn't work. I assume any burr created by the process would be dealt with by a few hot slugs traveling down the bore.
@Mr.Gato7777 there's a few places out there that will do it for like 150 I believe. And thank you! I've got 1000s of more rounds through it now and it's running like a champ.
Terrific video. You seem like an above average normal person, like me , x-Rangemaster. For us we would watch Miculek would go 17/17 at 100 yards with his off hand in the rain at night lol ! !
Thank you! I've heard great things about the steel frame! I think they both have there plus and minuses. But from personal experience with the polymer I love it! I've got over 10,000 rounds on it now and it runs great. The porting on this one makes it feel extremely smooth. Are you shooting carry optics?
I don’t understand the inconsistency with Canik very similar pistols either have no rear sight when you put an optic on and then others keep the rear site. Why not just make it one way I think that would improve efficiency on the production line as well.
@rich1958 this one comes with a plate with the rear sight as well but being a competition oriented pistol the rear sights aren't a priority and many don't want them because they don't want any clutter in there optic. I wish they co witnessed all of them though like you said!
This will be my next gun I get. Currently I have a pdp and I love it but all of my friends who are into competition shooting have one of these and they all speak highly of it.
Have you ever come across a misfeed with the rival? I hit 650 rounds and now it's misfeeding. I just purchased a spring co guide rod. Not sure if it will fix the issue
I haven't had any other issues than what I talked about. I've got thousands more rounds through it and it's been running great! What exactly is it doing and what ammo are you using?
Using Browning 115gr range ammo which I have been using since I bought the gun. Lately when a round is racked it gets jammed/misfeed and then will load that round if forced. Round will eject and run fine but the will jam again.
@Suttonusmc the few malfunctions I had were similar with the fiocci range dynamics 115. I switched ammo and it ran fine. My other guns did the same with it. I believe it was out of spec ammo. Not saying that's the reason for yours for sure but worth a try.
why would you not external carry your canik if in a state that allows constitutional carry? If society collapses this may be what I would have external holster. the 18+ 1 is attractive, it just makes sense to me and on all other guns i have a safety. also, if this is a competition gun why not rig it out with a freedomsmith trigger, which while canik triggers rocks oem out of box the freedomsmith with spring job and #2 rings takes you to a 2lb pull..... the freedomsmith by itself eliminates the travel while holding to oem lb pull. also your stippling, thatis rubberized right, it didnt look like talon, also did you wrap the back swell? lastly, your porting? im interested. who did your machining? thanks i subscribed and liked
Considering they are actually hardly losing any velocity, not enough to make a difference anyways, I don't see how it would cause a squib. No different than the lucky seven porting by monsoon tactical as far as how they work. And I've got thousands more rounds though this set up without any kind of failures with it so far since this video was made.
Turkish guns have usually been a failure for ages...even if the quality was right the bastards never delivered the products or parts.....Been 7years and still waiting for the Zenith HK 223 copies of which only 20 were sent.....I would say 95% of importers who dealt with Turkish companies stopped quick and regretted it. But the polymer Canik has been a success and a far better choice than that polymer SIG garbage and worth the price....better than Smith & Wesson by far too, which has many quality control issues.
Let's go over what a fa failure is. Inability to make it work right in the field do to a design or manufacturing flaw. Essentially broken. I put home made ammo in there is not a failure. Xd
I also have the Canik Rival s in grey and love it. Even though it to almost 5 months to find one it was worth it. I have the 507-comp mounted on it and the trigger is great.
Great firearms, for sure!

17400 rounds on mine without a problem just clean and oil and changed the guide rod and springs two times
These things run for sure!
Great video. I’ve been looking at this gun for a bit and haven’t really heard anything negative about it. I’m torn on the black or chrome though.🤔
Are you wanting the steel frame or polymer? I've had great luck with mine for sure!
I really like both versions, but more than likely it’s going to be the steel frame.
The Canik SFX Rival Dark Side is a damn good pistol. The trigger is amazing straight out of the box. Canik listens to their customers and competition shooters. This pistol is worth every penny!
I agree 100 percent! I've got thousands more rounds through this pistol since this video and it runs flawlessly!

lol the fly at 10:57
I just hit a 1000 rounds with my Rival. Not one issue here either.
It's a work horse for sure!
Where did you get the 2nd barrel? Canik doesn't sell them for the steel frame.
@MPMII i have a canik barrel but is for the polymer. I don't have 2 barrels for my steel frame as of now.
Do you know if the Rival Trigger shoe will fit on the Mete MC9?
I just picked up my rival today, looking to get an optic and I like the holosun you have, what model is it?
This is the holosun 507 competition. Awesome red dot! Multiple reticles so you can dial it in to what you like
Where did you have the port job done?? I wanna buy one but I want to also get it ported as well.
Does the firing pin show any damage or have you replaced it?
@@krishall3187 i haven't replaced anything on it yet and have put thousands more rounds through it since.
Have you inspected it? The edge corner gets hammered. The tip is normally fine.
@krishall3187 so far mine looks to be holding up good. I heard they were having a lot of issues with the new canik tti combat though
I've seen the strikers from both a Darkside and TTI Combat with the deformation issue. Trying to find as many folks as I can with these guns and high round count, to see how wide spread the issue is and if any failures have come from it.

I actually had it milled. I know a custom knive maker who ended up milling it for me
@@primeddefender I might attempt this my self. I have access to a mill. Thanks.
Great video.
Im looking to ease into comp shooting so I just picked up the polymer rival. Would you say it’s a good beginner pistol in stock form?
I absolutely would it's a great pistol all around! Welcome into comp shooting! What kind of match will you be attending?
Beginer or experienced.
Great video... I just got rival this week!!
How much does it cost to have the barrel ported?
Thanks
@Mr.Gato7777 there's a few places out there that will do it for like 150 I believe. And thank you! I've got 1000s of more rounds through it now and it's running like a champ.
Nice review 👍
Curious how long your stipple jub took and by what method you did it ? Thanks for a superb review !
@belindaclaytor3912 It took about 45 min. I used a figure 8 pattern because it seemed to give the best texture for what I wanted. I like it gripy!
@@primeddefender Lol So do I !
Who did your porting?

Great video, I’m having a tough decision to get this polymer frame or the steel, what do you think? I shoot competition.

I've got over 10,000 rounds on it now and it runs great. The porting on this one makes it feel extremely smooth. Are you shooting carry optics?
@@primeddefender yes I am, I use the trijicon sro 5 moa dot.
@biker1958 Great dot. I have been using the holosun 507comp and really like it!
I shoot Open, uncomped. With 27 rds on board the polymer is plenty heavy.

It's been an awesome gun for me for sure! Trigger is amazing and it just keeps running. Very reliable. The pdp is great as well!
What holster do you use with the rival with a light ?
Iwb legacy firearms co or tier concealed.
Owb legacy firearms co or blackhawk omnivore
I have the same set up with the light…can you find a OWB holster?
Are you looking for passive retention or like a level 2 or 3?
Where did you have your stippling grip done.
I did it myself, actually. It works great for me as the one complaint I have with caniks is that I'd like them to have better texturing
Have you ever come across a misfeed with the rival? I hit 650 rounds and now it's misfeeding. I just purchased a spring co guide rod. Not sure if it will fix the issue

Ok I'll have to try different ammo and thank you
@Suttonusmc you bet. Let me know if it helps or if the problem continues!
Does the slide wobble a little ??mine does side to side . Thinking it is normal but not sure
Yes very slightly side to side
ok thought it was only mine. But when u shake it it makes slight slide noise and side to side movement on front mostly. Still shoots accurately .
@snipex111 yeah it's normal. My smith's do the same thing as well
Where did you get the ported barrel
Bordeau Tool Co. He is a great knife maker but I know him and he did this for me. If you are looking for great custom knives he is your guy though!
Is this particular gun suitable for self and home defense?
I would say yes as it's been incredibly reliable for me. Always vet your equipment though no matter the company!
@@primeddefender I'll definitely keep that in mind thanks 💯
The longevity reviews are not exciting but they are necessary for people that want to invest money in a gun that will last for years.
What model is your holosun
507 comp
Who did the porting? And how much?
Bordeau Tool Co. He is a great knife maker but I know him and was able to get this done. If you want a custom knife he is your man though

I've been taught that one handed to the thumb up just like that.
It definitely seems to lock it into the hand better for sure!
