Title: I restored crazy VANITY TABLE
#howtorestore #furniturerestoration
Let’s not forget to be amazed at the original artistry and all of that gothic detail…. I don’t know where to start with your indescribable talents to bring this piece back from the dead! I don’t think my fingers could have been pried from the throats of the transportation company if this was mine! Carving new claws???? New ornate dowels???? Good grief but my jaw kept dropping!!!!! Just purely GIFTED you are! A true artist!!!!! God given talent! Thank you for sharing ❤
It's more oriental than gothic.
+❤️
You took those right out my mouth. Have to agree with you a 100%. Beautifully said comment. ♥️😊👍

How beautiful ❤
What a fantastic concoction of chinoiserie. The dragon (male), the phoenix (female), the pineapple finials, pineapples for hospitality, the 18thC dolphin, and the elongated stylised swirls representative of Chinese depictions of clouds. Thanks for restoring a most unusual piece, and saving it for posterity. Well done.
You're sure that's a phoenix?? I thought it was cockatrice.
@Kharmazov It’s absolutely a phoenix, no mere cockatrice would ever be caught in the company of a _dragon,_ lol
That is the most unique piece I've ever seen....what an amazing opportunity for you to showcase your phenomenal restoration skills on. BRAVO yet again. Your part of the world truly does have a love and appreciation for saving these one of a kind masterpieces from the past. Thank you for another satisfying and inspirational video.
There are no degrees of uniqueness. A thing which is unique is one of a kind. Never say “ it’s very unique” or that was “much more unique”. It was, or it wasn’t. That’s it!
@judeirwin2222 Your lesson in the constructs of the English language and my use of it, (although accurate), is neither applicable here nor solicited. I am/was expressing my sincere appreciation of not only the piece of furniture and its construction and beauty, but more importantly the man who restored it to it glory (through traditional methods) and his gifts, talents and work ethic. I was not posting my comments for an English lesson and/or to be critiqued. Should I choose to, in the future, sign up for your English class, I will contact you.
I think it is an umbrella stand for a hallway ❤
@@karencooper9185 Dude you didn't get it? Grammar and what he said.. it doesn't matter what language you use to say it. the message in the proposition.. is the same.. wrong or right.. no matter the language used.. So you better start learning the grammar in your language first then use another language.. Because he is quite right.. that you don't know what Uniques definition means. Unique means is one of a kind.. and there is no comparation with anything..when it comes to talk about any unique object/thing.. Period. Do not get frustrated when someone is trying to teach you the right way of saying something..and say thank you for it. and That's it.
It’s rude to correct someone you don’t know in friendly conversation. If this were a video about grammar, it would be different.
What a lovely hallway stand and mirror. It's almost possible to imagine an Edwardian family catching their reflection on the way out.
Не каждый бы взялся за такую сложную реставрацию. Огромный труд. Но Вы выполнили все блестяще
да. и такая резьба по дереву не каждый день встречается
I’m speechless with the amount of detail, time ( don’t even want to know how May hours this took ) and patience it took to bring this beautiful piece back from the brink. This was truly a Lazarus piece.
I appreciate all of the great camera angles that you used so we could really see all the intricate work that you did on this amazing piece. Stunning repair work - so intricate and well-thought out.
That was an amazing video to watch. That vanity table belongs in a museum where the art from a different century can be appreciated.
Much as I appreciate the skill and artistry of both the original craftsmen and the best furniture restorer I have ever seen, I wouldn’t give this thing house room. Is over ornate dust magnet too harsh? I endorse the museum option!
Ahti, I can believe why you were asked to care for such a magnificent piece of furniture....ART. I was glued to the screen during the entire process and the love and care you showed that beautiful hall mirror/vanity was unmistakable in the way your hands moved around the piece. Skillfully, artfully and masterfully. I hope that the moving company had to pay through the nose for your time, etc. I would love to have a piece like that. Also your commentary was just too funny. Your one liners are getting better and better my friend. Thank you for allowing us all into your world to see what beauty comes from your hard work!!!
I’m a year late in adding my praise to your work! YOU are the man that the original carver was dreaming would find his creation in the future. Timeless work! Bravo!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 🎉
The greatest work of yours so far. I'm speechless. This is so wonderful. It was more a resurrection than a restoration, wasn't it? Besides Treena with John's Furniture Repair you are the greatest restorer on RUclips! 🎉 Best wishes from Germany ❤
I agree!! Resurrection!!!
Let us no forget Mr. Thomas Johnson of Thomas Johnson’s antique furniture repair. That gentleman certainly deserves a place on this list. This restoration leaves me speechless!
And Angie from Transcend Furniture Gallery
Работа мастера завораживает
Unbelievable work on this piece! You have truly perfected your art and your craft, sir!! Amazing 💜❤❌⭕
Finally, a restorer who doesn't immediately strip the original finish off and do a "milky" wash stain BS... thank you for preserving the original character of the piece.
What an amazing piece! I have never seen anything like it. I can't imagine how much time went into restoring it, let alone your skill and talent. Bravo!
You were exactly the person needed to bring this piece back to its former glory 🐉
Absolutely beautiful restoration. I love to watch restorers like yourself bring life back to fragments of history like toys, appliances, furniture, or in this case an artist’s handiwork! I have high respect for your craft good sir. Please continue saving these beautiful bits of history.
Crazy does not begin to describe this piece---it is so over the top that it's almost in orbit! The creator of this piece didn't hold back one bit & would have been thrilled & honored to have you do the restoration.
That is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture I have ever seen, that definitely was in some very elegant estate at some point in an entry, the tray for the visitors cards, that would have had a crystal inset at some point I am sure. The work you did on that? AMAZING. You saved a beautiful piece of history. The carving and details on the dragon, the bird and the dolphin or fish (on the far bottom right), its just exquisite and that you were able to restore the pieces missing and even the claws - there is no end to your talent and skill. I would love to know the backstory on the piece! Where it was made, where its from… just amazing. In addition to your master craftsman’s skills you must have the patience of Job as that fine detail not only took amazing skill, it took a lot of patience as well. Thank you for yet another wonderful video!
Wonderful restoration. You are a master at what you do. Thank you for taking time to restore the beautiful pieces of history.
Have you any idea what could be purpose of brass/bronze "box" in front of a mirror? Thank you!
Metal box is to catch water from umbrellas and the like….😀
The creature in the corner on the bottom right is a dolphin. There are quite a few similar representations of dolphins in 18th century European art. My best guess as an former art historian (not a furniture expert!) is that this was made mid- to late-18th century. I say this because at mid-19th century "chinoiserie" was all the rage in France and Rococo was still in favor, and other European artists and furniture makers followed suit. It is interesting to see some of the Neoclassical elements coming into the design when Neoclassicism generally didn't become "all the rage" until the 1770s and 1780s. So that's why I say later 18th century. Of course, I could be entirely wrong and this could simply be some 19th-century furniture maker's mashup! There was a lot of that going on in the second half of the 19th century.
My guess is this dates to between 1880-1900.
Great job! I'm sure someone is very happy that you were able to restore it to almost like new!
I am speechless! Once again you outdid yourself and have proven what a master you are of furniture restoration.
Not exactly "my cup of tea" but I can still appreciate it for it's beauty. Simply an amazing restoration of which the customer must have been ecstatic.
Watching your videos has taught me the difference between a craftsman and a master craftsman. You are incredible!
Wow! You didn't go for the extra mile, you did a complete marathon. Very well done.
That can one say, …. Out standing completion👍
I never get tired repeating it: you are a true craftsman, Ahti!
This is so cool, the fact that you managed to get it back to this state speaks highly of your skills.
You are now a part of that pieces history. As years go by, the people who own this piece will have a piece of you with them. This is a stunning piece, unless I'd seen this restoration, I'd never known it was broken.
This is a porte manteau usually found in the foyer for hanging coats and hats. The shelf-like flat part on the bottom is for house slippers as shoes were not worn indoors. The copper pan area is for standing wet umbrellas and boots.
That is the craziest piece of furniture I have ever seen - AND I LOVE IT.
I confess I was nervous when you were doing some disassembly, but as usual you restored it with respect to the original and perfection. Thanks for sharing.
Unbelievable!!! What patience, what persistence, what craftsmanship!!!Amazing restoration!!! Good thing you are there to save this piece of furniture!!!👋👋👋👋👋
What a joy to watch this amazing restoration. Thank you.
Wow!!! That thing is amazing!!! Its so beautiful and exciting with those amazing creatures. You made new claws!! It would not be right without those claws. You do fantastic work. I love it!!!!
wow. must be the most wonderful thing I've seen restored on your channel! immensely beautiful and elegant 💖
there is no words for the carvings on this table stunning

I must've had another lifetime in the culture and period of this piece, It's straight out of my dreams. Oh and your workmanship is awe inspiring!
That is a very unusual piece. I like how you explain everything to your viewer. Nice work.
What a wonderful piece! Beautiful repairs, as usual!!
With a crimson velvet cushion in the box, it would be the world's fanciest cat bed. Beautiful work! 🩷🩷🩷
What an awesomely weird and beautiful piece this is! It's so unique and I really enjoyed seeing your creative solutions to all the small broken bits. The finished piece is gorgeous and so, so different.
How promising it is that there are still such masters and artists in the world. Such endeavors need to be kept alive from generation to generation. Children need to be taught these things. Nowadays we are used to buying everything as ready-made products. Now we have all kinds of tools and materials. That is a great convenience. Who knows how people used to produce these items in the conditions of that time?
As always Perfection! Good humor. You're workshop is so organized. Great job my man
One off the best restoration videos in RUclips.
Loved your good humour! You're an artist. What a well done restoration! Very good job!❤

Here in the U.S., there once was a TV show on public network called "The New Yankee Workshop" (later 1980s thru early 1990s). It featured Norm Abram, master carpenter. He would start out by visiting a historic site, usually in Massachusetts, finding a unique item, and then designing and building one himself. He wasn't so much into restoring old furniture, than building anew, but in the same style. I loved his show.
A few years back, there was a TV show called American Restoration. It featured Rick Dale and his crew restoring old items, but included a lot scripted "drama" which I could have done without.
I like your channel. You restore old....everything....plus you show more of the process, without any scripted silliness.
That has got to be one of the most exquisitely restored pieces of furniture I've seen to date! You did absolutely wonderful bringing this piece back to life!
I'm completely hooked on watching your videos...is so neat to watch the process and see something that looked like rubbish to looking like it did when first built.
I have watched almost all your videos and this is by far the best! Actually, all your restorations are breathtaking but this piece is unique! The best carvings I have ever seen! I didn't catch it if you mentioned it was a client's piece but if it's not KEEP IT! Your work on this masterpiece is priceless! I love internet... I appreciate the opportunity it provides me to watch artists like yourself do incredible furniture rescues. Thanks so much for sharing
WOW is all I can say... Today's furniture just doesn't compare. Oh there are some ingenious designed items, but the creativity of old-world artistry and imagination was soulful. you did a wonderful job.
What a cute opening, so fun! That is a unique and beautiful piece and you did an amazing job restoring it!
Nothing short of miraculous! If asked why expert furniture repair/restoration "takes so much time and costs so much", I could provide no better answer than this video. Well done!
That is a deeply strange and wildly beautiful piece of furniture. What lovely work you do!
Stunning piece of furniture. It's more than furniture... it's an absolutely gorgeous work of art. I can only imagine how devastated the owners must have been to have had it broken so badly. Congratulations on a fabulous restoration. ❤❤❤❤
That hand carving is amazing! The artist was truly talented. You did a wonderful job carving and restoring the piece. Your work never ceases to amaze me. Great job!
Gosh the art of the restorer is more technical than the original craftsman. A true art. Well done.
It never fails, Ahti. Whenever I think I've seen the best of your work, you outdo yourself again. This piece shows that there are no limits to your talents. I watched this entire video without blinking because I didn't want to miss a second of this project. Your work is impeccable. You are the BEST at your craft. Truly.
This is the most beautiful piece AND restoration I have ever seen! Unbelievable !!!
This piece is stunning! I'd love to know more about its origin. You made it look new again!! ❤
I hope you enjoyed repairing that unique piece of furniture. The owner must have been both delighted and astounded when that came home. Everything repaired, replaced and all cleaned and polished. You should be very proud of your workmanship. Thank you for allowing us to see.
As always, you show all of us how it's done right. Your mastery of wood working is uncanny. The pieces you find are varied and interesting. Look forward to your next project.
My favorite part was when you covered the screw with a piece of trim instead of just putting it right through the trim itself. What a good idea.
What an interesting and ornate piece. I’ve never seen anything like it. All the carvings look refreshed and ready for another century. Great job 👍
Not only is the restoration work amazing, but the sense of humor is appreciated. 😊
Truly a piece a museum would be proud to have. Beautiful restoration work!
Great job! 👍. And weird piece of furniture! Hahah 😁
That is insane! The person who carved this must have been apprenticed at an early age and could probably carve like this blindfolded and sleeping! You did an amazing job 💗💗💗
Not that, my friend, is…..absolutely gorgeous! Your work is a,ways impeccably perfect.. you have quite the eye for beauty and you truly are the MASTER!!!!!!
Здравствуйте! Это был титанический без преувеличения труд ! Никто так не выполняет реставрацию, как вы, по крайней мере я не видела на других каналах. Всього найкращого 😊
OMG! What a wonderfully unique piece of furniture to have the movers destroy it was tragic. The restoration job you performed on it is outstanding! Your attention to detail is stellar as you dismantled what was left intact. Cleaned and restored all the carvings and filled cracks where needed as well as replaced veneer that was past the point of restoration. The way you recarved missing or lost sections was performed with a lite touch with respect to the historic nature of the piece. Use just enough stain and finish to blend all your hard work away as if no damage had ever happened. A stunning piece of furniture I would be proud to have in my home.
It's not a vanity. It's a hall tree. It has a place for wet boots and possibly calling cards. It's weird and wonderful.
Agreed. There is a spot for shoes, parasols, letters, and calling cards. Although this could also be a gentleman’s vanity? It’s so unusual that it’s difficult to tell.
That was my thought as well. A vanity would have a table area and usually some drawers. It also wouldn't have a full mirror.
It's an amazing piece.
A beautiful piece and a brilliant restoration. I particularly enjoyed watching you repair the animal claw. If more people could see how exceptional ornamental pieces like this can look when fully restored, they'd be more highly prized in the antiques market.
I bet the Old Master who built that piece never knew that someday a younger master will come along and restore it to its original glory. Nice work.
All I can say. Is they picked the right man for the job. Good work.
I think this is my favorite so far!! Awesome piece!!
What an amazing thing 😍 I would place it in out hallway to say "hello" to all visitors 🙃
I am impressed, every time, BEYOND BELIEF!!! You are truly amazing!!!
That was another stunning restoration. It's back to it's former beauty. You are one super skilled craftsman! Still Stunned at the craftsmanship!
An amazing piece of artistry. You managed to bring it back to life. Fantastic workmanship. The dragons will be very happy with you. We don't get to see such fine art furniture today.
That is the most amazing, beautiful, incredible piece of furniture I have ever seen. I literally have chills, and have never coveted anything more in my life. Thank you for this video.
What a phenomenal piece. The amount of craftsmanship that went into creating it. Awesome. I'm completely blown away with the amount of work involved and your ability to tackle every issue that arose with remarkable skill. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Bravo and huge thanks for sharing. Brilliant.
I'm from the USA and you are a master at your work. Your videos are so relaxing don't change them
My late father would have loved these videos. He was a cabinet maker by training, though he could not get a job in that field, so he worked as a coach-builder. He would have appreciated the quality of workmanship shown here.
Was there originally a mirror like that? Surely, it would have had an ornate frame. The zinc (?) tray insert suggests that it was for umbrellas. Perhaps there was a solid back that held hooks. It is very ornate but reminds me of a coat rack for an entrance hall.
You're like a jeweler!
Master with a capital letter.
Such an old object, there is no longer any hiding place!
I understood,museums give you
these things for restoration,
because the inhabitants do not have such goods!
Cool!
You are a True Craftsman and a pleasure to watch as your skills return pieces to their former glory.
A complete piece of art, what do I say? A masterpiece of art! You're incredible!
The most beautifull piece of timber I've ever seen. Restoration, absolutely master class.
Як чудово! Ви майстер і митець! Бажаю Вам наснаги та завжди із задоволенням давати нове життя предметам!
That is the craziest piece of furniture, pretty in a unique way. You are a skilled man and restored it beautifully.
Amazing. The only change I would make is to exchange the new mirror for an antique one.
I’m saving this video because this is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture i’ve ever seen and equally one of the most perfect restorations i’ve ever seen. Just wow 😮
One of the craziest and most beautiful pieces of furniture I've ever seen, and I'm not even twenty years old!❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Truly talented..your hands are pure gold full of artistry and love for your craft.
This piece is absolutely incredible seeing it brought back to life again. You are amazing 👏 Bravo on another incredible job well done.
That is absolutely the most beautiful unique piece of furniture I’ve ever seen in my life. Beautiful restoration job.
That piece needed a master's love long before the moving company broke it. Glad it found one. You do an exquisite job.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to see this beautiful piece and your mastery at restoring it.
