As I understand it, oatmeal is also high in silica. Silica is beneficial for hair, skin and nails, but also the 1800's homeopath, Dr. Schuessler found that as a low potency tissue salt, silica removed toxins out of the body. I have found that oatmeal seems to provide a similar balancing and cleansing response in my body. Thank you for this informative video.

I'm Scottish. Have been eating oatmeal all of my life with a wee amount of salt and milk. It's also great as a skin cleanser and face mask. Mix a spoonful with some water , add some honey. Spread on your face , leave ten mins and rinse off. Skin feels clean and very soft.
I started eating oatmeal everyday and I lost 20 pounds in a couple of weeks from 215 to 195 and I'm six foot four, my stomach is flatter as a well, I'm happy.
Sometimes the simplest everyday foods can be the most healthy. And, very low cost too. It's easy to be Vegan and save money on this diet. No need for exotic foods. *Oat Eating Tip:* Soak your oats in the frig overnight for even better micro-nutrient absorption. Eating warmed, cooked, or baked oats also helps, especially, if you also soaked the oats too.

I've been eating "traditional" oats for many years. I'm now 80, had a heart attack 7 weeks ago, but yesterday's EKG revealed, to the cardiologist's astonishment, that I have only a tiny scar, basically inconsequential, and the rest of my heart is strong. Over the years, I've abused alcohol in bottle-a-day binges, eaten too much sugar, and much more but ate my oatmeal every morning for the last 30 years.
My grandfather ate a bowl of oatmeal every morning up to the morning he died. He was 98 . He simply dropped his head and died instantly. The doctor said his body just quit living , because it was worn out .What a way to go .
Oatmeal in one form or another has long been a staple in my diet. I'm 65 and have excellent blood pressure and cholesterol and take no pills. Couldn't attribute to anything in particular except I stay away from all forms of processed foods.
mhariza anobadac when I eat oats I do. Soak a portion overnight in i cup water with a little yoghurt, in the morning add a half cup full fat milk and a pinch of salt, cook for ten minutes gently, top with more milk or preferably cream and perhaps a little honey if you want more sweetness. This is way more substantial and nutritious than when made with only water, not to mention more tasty, and despite what you might hear is a traditional Scots way of eating it.
I'm vegan and highly active so my breakfast consists of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli usually), random non berry fruit, berries, 3 heaping servings of oatmeal with 3 tbsp maple syrup and a ton of pumpkin spice, and tofu scrambled eggs. I am in love! Sometimes even more maple syrup as I need loads of calories per day!
It's great that they mentioned the difference in glycemic index between instant and less-processed oats, but I definitely think there should have been more information on how to prepare oatmeal. The majority of Americans put way too much sugar in their oatmeal and that can lead to some serious morning sluggishness among other (worse) long and short-term effects. A great way to sweeten oats without going overboard is to blend a banana or a couple of dates into the cooking water. Bananas and dates are also fairly high in sugar, but low glycemic index and offer other nutritive benefits...
I like to add a teaspoon of maple syrup to my oats, adds a little bit a sweetness and is good in the long run because without some sweetness I wouldn't eat it and would probably go back to sugary - nutrient void - cereals.
Add in a few raspberries and blackberries (or blueberries) and skip the banana/date combo . I’m a diabetic and eat steel cut oats with those berries - still spikes my blood sugars
@@MarkHolmes I actually do the same. I was thinking of folks who *need* it sweeter. If you haven’t already tried this, I recommend adding some nuts or nut butter. It can slow the absorption of the sugars.

I also felt I woke up better. As in I would slowly wake up and be more alert during the day. Definitely feel oatmeal made a difference in my life.

Today, March 21, 2018, I am celebrating my first year anniversary as a vegan. One year ago I was 235 pounds with a bmi of 37 (obese). I had diabettes and high blood pressure for which I was taking drugs. On the last day in February 2017 I watched Forks over Knives, a documentary on how our food is produced and how harmful it is. The next day I went to an all-you-can-eat restaurant (golden coral) and ate every vegetable or whole food I saw. During the next 60 days I lost 33 pounds, stopped all medications as my blood glucose was normal as was my blood pressure .I had stopped eating all animal products - beef, chicken, eggs, diary, fish, butter etc.etc. I did stop losing weight but saw in retrospect that I was still eating processed (packaged) foods which I cut out and lost another 22 pounds in the following two months. I had gone from 235 to 170 - a whopping 65 pounds. It had been a decade or longer since I was below 200 pounds. I am 77 years of age. As I live alone in the Oregon outback in an off-grid home I built myself I used videos like this as my support group. There are at least a dozen doctors posting videos that recommend a plant based "diet" and cutting out processed foods because they are loaded with addictive substances like salt, sugar and oils. At every meal I would go to youtube and select another of these videos as my support group. (Google plant based doctors - Neal Barnard, John, McDougall, Michael Gregor, Michael Klaper, Joel Fuhrman, Dean Ornish, Kim Williams, T. Colin Campbell, Caldwel Esselstyn, Alan Goldhammer, Doug Lisle, Matt Kedernan, Alona Pulde, Thomas Campbell, Garth Davis, Pam Popper, Jason Fung, Anthony Lim and so many more. Today, I have actually modified my eating habit by including a two day water only fast once every week which gives my body a chance to heal itself. What the Doctor of all doctors wrote: "Let food be thy medicine" is so true (Thanks Dr Hippocrates.) Another important message can be found at abolishchildsexabuse.com. Fasting - even for 36 houts - is the frosting on the health cake. Thanks for reading.

My favorite is oat bran now. I just tried it for the first time last week i added bananas with a cup of oj it was the best most refreshing breakfast I’ve ever had yet it was so simple
I mix enough oat bran in with 2 beaten eggs. Let it sit for 5 minutes then make pancakes with it. Optional: some sweetener and salt and some shredded cheese.
I put a little oil in a saucepan. (The oil makes the pan easier to clean later.)Then I stir in some oats and some All-Bran (total 40g). I add some water and then I stir in an egg. I add a chopped up banana or apple. I put in a pinch of almond or coconut shavings and maybe a pinch of cinnamon. When it has cooked, I put it in a bowl with a table-spoonful of yogurt and some oat milk. I sometimes sprinkle a teaspoon of cranberries on top. I put some water into the saucepan and let it sit on the turned off hot plate so it's easy to clean after breakfast.
wow, so happy to hear this because it just happens that I do have a bowl of oatmeal daily. Years ago I realized that I felt better starting my day with a bowl of oatmeal than any other breakfast. I like it best without even cooking it, I just combine it with raisins, blueberries, peaches, or some other fresh fruit, add milk and eat it. I'm glad to know of all the good this has been doing me all these years.
Just made an oatmeal bake with fruit to have for the week for breakfast. I bake it with eggs, vanilla almond milk, coconut sugar, fruit, cinnamon and vanilla. It is a perfect breakfast.
I'm 85 and have been doing this for many years, with all the benefits described! My physician says that my blood test numbers are too fantastic to believe! He also said that when he's 85 he wants to be like me!

If you don't like oatmeal because of its texture, try steel cut oats. They are nutty in texture and a little chewy. I make it in huge bowl in microwave. 1/4 cup steel cut oats, 1 1/2 cup water. Zap for 5 minutes and stir once. Zap another 5 minutes. Stir before serving. I add pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon and some fruit. The big bowl with high sides is because oatmeal can boil over in the microwave easily. Perfect every time.

Eating oatmeal 6 of 7 mornings a week for about 10 yrs has helped me, & it sticks with me. Of course always adding raisins & apple pieces & a little cinnamon enhances it too. The proof is in the blood work.
I have been eating porridge oats with blueberries and banana every morning for about nine yrs and feel great.....i also sprinkle sunflower, pumpkin, Flax and Ghia seeds on the oats too.....this is my favourite meal of the day.
Doing this for years. Oatmeal, ground flax, molasses, walnuts, blueberries, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, yogurt, strawberries, mango, chia seed. Gets you through most of the day.
SO important to eat "old-fashioned" or regular oatmeal. 'Quick oats" or those individual packages have had a lot of the fiber taken out. Most of us just do not get enough fiber at all which means you're not giving your digestive system the work-out it needs. And, if you eat the quick oats, etc., because it takes too long to cook them, you might try what I do. I pour the dry oats into a bowl, add water, and then microwave it. And, I even like it when a few of the oats don't cook all the way because it makes it kind of "chewy".
I have porridge at least 4 times a week, I love it...as for health benefits, I haven’t a clue 🤔 my main reason for eating it regularly is cost, it’s cheap.
LOVE Oatmeal and I have it every day in the morning with coffee not b/c its healthy, not b/c someone told me to do it ....nope. I LOVE OATMEAL!!!!! Especially Steel Cut! OMG! PWN!
I read that regular oatmeal, or wth go straight to steel cut oats has a medium low glycemic index. When combined with blueberries, which have a very low gi, the whole meal is great for stabilizing blood sugar. One thing I found over the years; you need both insoluble and soluble fibre (whole grains e.g.) to remain consistently regular. Works for me!
I love my porridge every morning. 'Glad it can fight against fatty liver too.... I don't have any form of sugar with it because sugar is made of glucose and fructose, and because the body can't use fructose, it is laid down IN the liver as FAT and inaccessible stored energy as no organ in the body can digest fructose! (See Dr. Robert Lustig's findings on the damage sugar does to us! ) The only morning I never finished my porridge was the time I had a major heart attack! It was however found, that my arteries were as clean as a whistle and the heart attack (in my 40's ) was due to a tremendously stressful long term situation. ( I'd had an excellent diet - apart from the sugar - good overall health and went straight onto the intensive coronary care unit. I survived by the way. Hi' ! ) Anyway, thanx for the video! I love the porridge with its low glycemic level - and kicked the sugar habit which is an addictive appetite trigger and the key to rubbish health all round❗️ It was good to learn that eating porridge is good for me. 'Trying organic at the moment and love it just made with water even. 👍❤️ 😊

Oatmeal in one form or another has long been a staple in my diet. I'm 65 and have excellent blood pressure and cholesterol and take no pills. Couldn't attribute to anything in particular except I stay away from all forms of processed foods.
Is it also good to put milk on oat meal?
Personally I think that’s the key - stay away from refined and processed foods and we’ll likely be fine., with or without the daily oatmeal.
mhariza anobadac when I eat oats I do.

Nobody gives a sh♤t if you like to eat just vegetables.
@@karroten use milk instead of water, you won’t need a sweetener

The big bowl with high sides is because oatmeal can boil over in the microwave easily. Perfect every time.

corsican lulu no they do not (unless specified in ingredients). Barbara D is propaganda mongering (no offense), forgetting how the fiber in the raisins help balance the sugar absorption. Likewise sulphur dioxide, many raisins are made without it. Tokyo Pinay's breakfast was very healthy.

@1959 2011 haha ikr
(See Dr. Robert Lustig's findings on the damage sugar does to us! )
The only morning I never finished my porridge was the time I had a major heart attack! It was however found, that my arteries were as clean as a whistle and the heart attack (in my 40's ) was due to a tremendously stressful long term situation.
( I'd had an excellent diet - apart from the sugar - good overall health and went straight onto the intensive coronary care unit. I survived by the way. Hi' ! )
Anyway, thanx for the video! I love the porridge with its low glycemic level - and kicked the sugar habit which is an addictive appetite trigger and the key to rubbish health all round❗️
