Using the "T tap" is just asking for failure down the road if not immediately. Those who work in electronics despise those things. They are cheap so many manufacturers include them. The metal 'connector' knife edge often cuts the conductors in two breaking the continuity. They also are prone to corrosion which will also separate the circuit. These things came out in the seventies and it was immediately apparent that they were problematic right from the start. They are an invitation for moisture to enter the splice as well. Any time one sees these Scotchlock or 3M connectors (one is blue and the other red) used it is evidence that a novice has been there or someone who just didn't care. Use a good crimp connector such as a marine grade with sealant and heatshrink to make a good connection or the cold solder splices work well using heat shrink over them, or a regular soldered splice also heatshrunk. There are also uninsulated crimp connectors that can be soldered and heatshrunk. Now there are also a variety of lever lock and push to connect for electrical connections of all gauges and needs. These are very handy if you need to remove and reconnect an item (the lever locks, the push to connect are permanent). Good tools for crimping and stripping are necessary to get a good job every time. Overcrimping especially insulated connectors is common and a result of a poor crimping tool not made for the style of connector used.
Really nice video. My car came with a backup camera. Will this unit be able to tap into the original back-up camera or will it only work with the camera that comes in the iDoing kit?
I'm seeing references in several places to an OBD hookup for this unit, involving a "dongle" or something. Is it Bluetooth, WiFi or hard-wired, and does it actually allow you to read codes right of the head unit, as an app? Included, or sold separately?
Did you end up using the included microphone? I installed this unit in my 20 WRX (non-HK) this past week, and everyone I call either via wireless carplay or the Phone app says I sound distant. I’ve got the included mic plugged in and run next to my steering column, but I don’t know if there are additional settings to pick that mic over the in-HU one.
Curious did you have any audio issue installing this unit? I got similar Idoing unit for my frs but the door woofer doesn't work. Wondering if I need different harness from the one they provided. Wish they have some customer support
The only complaint I have is that on Android auto. It doesn't recognize automatic for light and dark modes for waze/maps. Even setting it to dark mode it doesn't stay in dark mode despite being selected. Nothing crazy but the screen is so bright at night in light mode. Other than that I love this head unit.
could really use some help with my CVT have a couple questions that noone near me seems to know. I bought my CVT in Massachusetts and I live in Maine you can add my snapchat to help me or anywhere really just let me know! love the vids and all the help

Where did you purchase the kit for your Subaru?

I wondered the same thing (about the mic). I also wondered about the steering wheel controls.

Not at all! If anything it is better!
Awesome vid, my unit is 95% funtional, but I can’t make the oem back up camera work, what do you recommend??
pinched wire? Shoot me a message on my facebook page
So dude, what do you do with the other yellow wire? The one in the rear?
Did you end up figuring this out? Currently installing thinking I may not need to connect it since we connected it in the front but I'm not sure...
@@Crahb I’m about to do this, what did you end up doing with this wire? Did it work?
@@mattmurphy6149 you have to extend it to the reverse light directly, i just bought some wire from ace.
Hey Bro! I copped this exact unit! Do you know the password to access the factory settings?
Shoot them a message and or try 0000 or 1234.
It’s 3368 and 1818

I heard these units are cheap Chinese garbage that can’t last a year, can anyone verify?
