Anyone else just saw the video about his life at 109 years old? This man was a gift god bless him
Yeah I did.
Me...just before this video. very inspiring.
Yes...
Yes sir:>) Whiskey to kill off the germs, Cigars to make the lungs strong and guns to scare off the sh*t weasels:>) God bless that man.
God bless this man !! And god bless America!!
He was 34 YEARS old when he joined ww2. He was older then most soldiers on there... what a legend...
@nikola zazzoslki you being for real?
There are several World War II vets alive
He was the same age as my great great grandfather. But he died in 1987 from Pneumonia.
@nikola zazzoslki Mate I bet you're a middle school edge lord.
nikola zazzoslki Grow fucking up
He joined the army at 34, being much older than the other soldiers.
He built his own house by himself after the war.
He had a diet of cigars, whisky, and butter pecan ice cream, and lived to be the oldest surviving WW2 veteran.
What a legend.
Soup & milk played critical supporting roles in-between all those smokes, liquor & ice cream. Legend indeed. Why not name his district after him instead of just a street? A park would be good too, but guess he only got a street to enjoy.
Weird phenomenon, ehh. I think much of this is a) genetics, b) mental fortitude. Maybe some people are just predisposed to stress and short lives, regardless of their habits, addictions, and lifestyle. Just one hypothesis, but the brain is certainly a powerful organ.
The best diet Cigars, Whisky and butter pecan ice cream! 💯
And soup

Dr Pepper he drank a lot of that.
I know that's right!!
Sounds like my grandpa
One of the greatest Americans to ever draw breath.
And a fat cigar cloud

I've followed Mr. Overton for quite a while, and was so sad to hear of his passing. We should appreciate our WWII veterans while we still have them around
There aren't many left. Korean and Vietnam War veterans are disappearing fast too. Honor those worthy of honor while they live.
I agree it is sad and we should respect all WWII vets
@@pimpvader8869 not just WW2 veterans, ALL veterans
@@pimpvader8869 IF they deserve respect. There are some people who, while being vets, are still assholes, & murderers, etc. Being a vet doesn't earn automatic respect: Ya' gotta be a good person too.
@@dme1016 Yes, that's true. Not all vets are good people.

- Richard Overton
I did not know he had passed away until I saw this video on my recommended list. I do not live in Austin or Texas but the best thing I will remember about Sgt. Overton is the meme of him smoking a cigar, a glass of whiskey on his table and brandishing a Thompson submachine gun. No, no one will ever be as cool as Mr. Overton smoking a cigar, drinking whiskey and brandishing a Thompson submachine gun cool. Rest easy, sir.
Unless we saw different videos, it appears Mr. Overton was holding a M1 grand....

Good bye Richard enjoy heaven you earned it 😢🙏
Maybe he goes to hell how you know it ?
@@lospolloshermanos348 Oh come on stop ofc hes in heavan like we all know so like stop making it all about yourself
@@Sarah-nf1hb You just believe what you want
@@Sarah-nf1hb How do you know that he is in heaven
@@lospolloshermanos348 because look at how much he did for America, fighting in a war, facing death every day, and being able to come home to tell the story. Plus, most old-timey soldiers like him knew better than to break the law, in any way.
I’m proud to be from the same state this man lived in. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
hmmm, its ok, but its just coincidence.
do something good all alone and be proud of it :)
@Johnny Dominguez If you go to a place, than its no coincidence. If you are born there, than it is. I for example wasnt asked which birth destination I would like to prefer :)
@@neinnein9306Yes it was just a "coincidence" and us americans are grateful That he was born in the Us
As a seventh generation family member of Veterans who lost their lives for our Country, I am proud to be from the same Country as this extraordinary Gentleman.
nein nein negative... I’ve served with many texans, they are their own special breed. Strong, and patriotic.
I wanted this man to live forever at the rate he was going
What a hero. Rest In Peace sir. You are the reason this world goes around. Can you erect a life sized statue of him in his hometown, please. The world needs this.
Yep if it wasn't for him and his comrades i really don't know where we would be, by the way black people had the worst in the war, fighting face to face with the nazis. So he really did some things and experienced the horror, i don't know how he looked so calm on his last times
RIP to one of the most inspirational human beings ever to walk the Earth!
Thank for your service
This Man played the hand he was dealt.and drew all Aces. He was truly one of the GreatOnes in our country’s history. Let his life be a lesson to all. Rest in Eternal Peace Brother. Former USAF, Vietnam Vet.

All I can say about this wonderful man, everyone just give him his props and honor. To you, Sir Richard Overton, I salute you in the highest order.
What a True patriot , signed up not knowing if he would not return to the U.S. , America's greatest generation looking past discrimination , putting the country first , God speed Richard
Thank you for your service, Mr. Overton! #Salute 🇺🇸 May you Rest In Peace!
Every Veteran should be treated this way. They stood up when the country called, not for personal gain but to do what was needed when it was needed to protect the country and the ones they love. This man is the embodiment of every veteran past, present and future, he was a wealth of knowledge that we have lost. May he walk in green pastures, and look down upon and over everyone.
What's even more inspiring is that, even though he was obviously young back in 1940, he was still quite a bit older than the average soldier joining WW2 back then AND YET he became the oldest veteran alive tons of decades later. This guy was a rockstar.
thank you for keeping us free

Mr. Overton. As a proud American. I salute you sir. Your Service is appreciated with the utmost respect .
Even though I haven't served in our armed forces. Your courage , zest and inspiration sets the gold standard of what a life that has been well lived. It has helped me to understand that a person doesn't truly appreciated what they had until they don't have it anymore.
I'm referring to when my mom passed away two and a half years ago from a major stroke. There are so many things I wanted to say to her but I just didn't tell her.
All I can do is try to do the best that I can .
Sad, makes it feel like it's your grandpa that lived his honorable Life.
Watch this man's documentary... The simple but motivating life.. thank you sir for your service..

You know he was smiling the entire time from heaven.... this is beautiful especially with all the racial things going on since his passing... he had/has a beautiful spirit and it feels like he was my grandpa lol my grandpa was born 1916 and was in WWII as well and he passed away at 97...... he had a wonderful service like this too.... I wish I had an opportunity to meet him...
I never met Mr. Overton, but was glad he lived here in Austin. At age 66, he is my role model for old age. Embrace it, find the joy in it, drink a big glass of milk - and have a shot of whiskey every now and then! Rest in peace. 🕊️
Mr. Overton is truly an inspiration to me!!!! God bless him, and his family!!!
I'm 60 years and just stumbled on this video I strongly think it should be shared with the younger generation. If we all could of met this man wow wow wow
My Condolences to The Family;
The Lost Of A Love One,
One of the most comforting is the promise that life is continuous; our time
on earth is just one aspect of a soul’s journey of growth and
transformation through time. Not only will we meet our loved one again
beyond the veil we know as physical death, but our relationship with
them will continue as well. One of the greatest gifts we can give to
someone who has passed on is to pray for them. And most importantly, to
pray that they will recognize that they have moved on from earthly
life, and now have the opportunity to continue their soul development in a
different way. The One's we love on the other side are actually as close
to us as our thoughts, and we can be most helpful to those individuals
by focusing on the happy, joyful times together, and releasing - as much
as we can - the sadness and grief we feel at their passing.
god bless Richard. I will always remember your story.
There are really no words to describe Richard Overton. But I'd like to submit 4... Hero, Legend, National Treasure!!! God bless America.
Thank you for your service sir.
