Holocaust survivor, 102, meets nephew after thinking all family died in war

- Eliahu Pietruszka escaped from Poland at the beginning of the second world war thinking his entire family had perished. But two weeks ago he discovered that a younger brother had also survived and that his brother's son, 66-year-old Alexandre, was flying from Russia to see him.

The reunion was made possible by a comprehensive online database of victims created by Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Given the dwindling number of survivors and their advanced ages, the event seemed likely to be among the last of its kind

Scrolled down looking for a comment along these lines. You can tell he's projecting his own fears through that message to his nephew. It seems like he was lonely for a long time and that scared him deeply, so he's very, very happy to know that his nephew won't have to go through the same thing. Must have bottled up those feelings for...well, most of a lifetime.

When he says “you won’t be alone” you can see the pain in his eyes. After all his loneliness, his first thought is not for himself, but for his family. It’s not “I won’t be alone”, but “You won’t be alone”. He feels empathetic and protective; he doesn’t want anyone else to feel the sadness he has felt. A small detail that marks a wonderful human being.

He wasn't completely alone, he married and had kids after the war, so he did have at least some happiness beyond just this.
I'm sure he lived a very happy life and wasn't lonely at all with his wife and kids.

When the uncle marveled how much his nephew looked like his father it must have been so emotional for him because he never got to see his brother in old age as he thought he had died young. Awe poor man 🥺
Such a great man, so much love and appreciation.
"You're a copy of your father."
That was the point, at which I shed a tear. In that moment he realized, that his brother had found a way to not only survive, but also to live and love. And since traits can be inherited, his nephew represents a part of his brother, that is still alive.
Indeed
This comment was what made me tear up
Subs are wrong. He didn’t say that
@@alexvm8352 what did he say??
But his younger brother had also survived
I'm so glad he survived to see his nephew, such a beautiful moment.
Well said child , well said ....

I’m literally in tears watching this, it shows how important family is.
The sentence “enough to make a grown man cry” cannot be more relevant right now.
Imagine how having a world war might’ve felt like. One day your playing with your friends and family outside and the next strange people taking you away because of your religion and you see people being killed right in front of you, bombs and planes filling the dark smoky sky. They probably thought the world was ending back then. Very terrifying 😢
Enough to make a grown man cry. And that's okay.
@@Earthsage I believe that we may be heading in that direction again with fighting over the natural resources that Israel has unearthed. Greed and power is the reason for war 99% of the time. The other 1% is justifiable defence of those that are defenseless.
Dang it really is
Lol!!! 🤣
