      But to speak to the OP’s comment, you would almost certainly be more prone to forgetting something like your card when you’re distracted by thoughts elsewhere.
      This altercation almost certainly brought the guy’s awareness and thoughts immediately to what’s in front of him. Of course the card isn’t the same as dealing with the robbers themselves, but add on top of that that he’s an off duty police officer, and he was probably doing a mental checklist or at least checking his surroundings.
      You would be much more likely to forget your card if you were thinking about that night’s dinner plans, for example.

    In Mexico we have those "indoor-outdoor" ATMs, but the door magnetically locks so nobody can go in until you're done. A bank will have 1 or 2 per corner. They're on the corner so so it's "impossible" for someone to be waiting for you around the corner lol. The walls are ballistic glass so no one can shoot you, and you can see through them.

      Very true but I wouldn't say always be passive, yes if Ur going to be passive dont look aggressive in the situation. I mean I just watched one video where a man tried to rob a gas station with a fake gun but the clerk noticed it was fake instantly and refused giving him money and called him out, the clerk didn't get aggressive until the guy ran away tho, he should have disarmed him regardless because even if it's a BB gun a full metal BB gun will still give u a concussion If u get pistol whipped, he was too passive and the guy was manhandling him until he got called out, the second he backed up I would have started throwing punches, or maybe even as he tried to manhandle him.

    I think having that enclosed space with the machines, basically being open to the general public is problematic. Some banks have it that the only way to gain access to that room is to use your bank card to unlock the door. This would prevent crooks who don't have a bank account from opening that door at their own leisure. (it also prevents homeless people from sleeping in there on cold nights.)

    • @Crypto4
      @Crypto4 7 лет назад +17

      Broccoli Rob 96 It's a transitional space though so they can just watch til you pull your card out and walk up to the door as you are walking out, then shove you back in and demand money. It's really best to not visit these alone at night. Have someone on lookout or just wait til day time or wait until there is a crowd of witnesses around who will scare off opportunist thieves.

      FYI, most ATM vestibule doors will unlock when any magstripe card is inserted into the door's "reader". The door reader is also where many thieves place their magstripe reading shim, as no one pays any attention to the door lock. They combine that with a miniature camera above the ATM keypad. Now they have your magstripe data and your PIN. And then they drain your bank account. It's why I always use a different card (I use an old library magstripe card) to unlock the ATM vestibule door. The thieves might get my PIN, but have no card data to use it with.

    Whenever my mom goes to the ATM she brings me, and I stand behind her facing away so I can watch what’s going on. I’m always armed, and I do my best to pay attention to what’s going on. I think there is safety in numbers in these situations, and if not, there’s certainly safety in weapons and awareness. We’ve never had a problem, but we did have one guy that pretended to stand in line for the ATM and stared at us for a while and then walked off. Not sure what his intentions were, but he looked really high and I got bad vibes from him. I don’t like to think about what could’ve happened if my mom was there alone.
