I’m 26, I still play from time to time. Honestly though, mmos don’t hit the same at 26 as they did when I was 9 or 14. I just can’t play mmos like that anymore
It started feeling like a second job to me. 25 right now, and it’s hard to go to work all day then come home to some mmo just to have a bunch of grind and fetch quests to go complete.
Cause you got shit to do now and you can’t keep up anymore. You can’t sit all day grinding shit, always got something else going on. I haven’t played in a long time, been on and off pretty much since MoP. Although, I gotta say, sometimes I like to be reminded of those days, raiding with my guild for hours, just zoning out from the problems I had irl. When I was younger I looked at it just as a game that I like to enjoy, but really it’s a little virtual world that you start to enjoy more than your actual world.
You've realized their boring grinds after the novelty wears off. I remember playing Legend of Mir and loving it. Now I don't get how I could play that 12+ hours straight per day.

I think MMOs felt good to play, especially as a kid because you did something with other people and saw tangible progress in your character. Better gear, getting good at rotations and farming, getting accepted into good guilds and beating tough raids felt like a real achievement when all you had to worry about was going to school and doing homework
This is SO true. It all felt like something really big because there was nothing really exciting happening in our lives.

The simplicity of this answer is that it’s so original in its form of playstyle, PvP, pve, rp, online interaction, and the movement of the game. The overall experience is so original and perfect that there’s a reason why it’s still played after 20 years
This game was gold dust to people like me who had no social life at that time. It was the only human interaction i could get apart from my family. It’s a positive/negative thing looking back.
I was so addicted to this game basically all throughout high school. I would stay up till 4am even when I had school the next day just to play more. I eventually realized how much time I was wasting because nothing in that game mattered. It all would disappear come next expansion. Never touched it again after that

@@generaltricky7921 But my life matters and the peoples in my life matters and the things I do in life effect them. So If I spend 10 hours a day playing a video game I neglect the things in my life. Like spending time with a parent or loved one that doesn’t have much time left. My point is for me the pixels in a game aren’t as valuable as the time I could spend outside of it.

@@Noctrl100 I don’t disagree with you in that respect, my point was that just like the game, you and all the people you know will die and all of the memories and experiences you made will be gone. But this doesn’t mean that your life doesn’t matter or that you shouldn’t bother living. I agree that spending 10 hours a day playing games rather than spending time with family and loved ones isn’t how I would want to spend my life, I just disagree with the idea that it all disappearing at the end means that it wasn’t worth it. Also your comment about it “just being pixels” is interesting as I could potentially argue that what you see and hear from your family is merely photons and vibrations, yet this doesn’t take away from their values as individuals. But at this point I’m just playing devil’s advocate as I don’t even know how much fully agree with my own last point. :)

The real shit is that no other game can scratch that itch they way WoW pvp does. I've tried other mmos, mobas, hero shooters, nothing hits the same. Especially during a good expansion like Wrath. It's just so much fun.

I’m 16 now and from 11-15 all I played was wow classic. I had over 1000 days played on all my characters and I was so mentally addicted to this game that when I quit literally every other game seemed so boring I just stopped playing video games all together. That game was like 1/4 of my childhood 💀

The addiction is real. Vanilla to 13 years later of all nighters and raid resets. Moving to a place with horrible internet was why i stopped long enough to stay gone.
I quit after Mist of Pandaria was announced and never looked back. Just hated the idea of Kung Fu panda after dropping a awesome expansion like Cataclysm.

It’s literally built to hook you. The exp, the new skills, the number of your level itself, of course when you level you get that amazing sound to play.
Answer is really simple. It was one of the BEST games at the time. Meaning you had friends that played or made friends from playing. Nothing feel better for millions of people is to feel part of something while having fun. Most people are lonely and not having fun.

MMO's are only worthwhile as long as you are growing as a person from it. I learned a lot about critical thinking and especially social skills from WoW. But at a certain point, when you start to feel like your online "investment" is more important than your real life investments, that's where it's dangerous. Huh, some things about the internet never change...
And you know why you were so addicted and so upset when you lost your guild? It’s cause of the social interactions and people you get to know. That’s why the games so addictive cause the human mind just wants that and the worlds so disconnected now so when your mind gets that it’s incredibly addictive.
I started playing in 2007; I have Beta and Alpha tested for it and still play.
I loved wow when I was younger. But now I have a job and a life and honestly RUclips provides more fun than wow

I’m 18 and I’m in a top 100 guild or HoF guild and one of the reasons I play is mainly for the people in my guild we can be complete fucking idiots during pulls of bosses and be efficient with our time (respectfully to the raid) but there is another thing about the game that makes you so happy when you figure someThing out or get your prog thing raid or dungeon down being able to say “I did a 32 JY” feels so good to overcome that challenge

I loved WoW, played it with basically no breaks in my subscription until somewhere during Cataclysm when I just felt the game was done and wasnt really going anywhere. Just the same loop as all other expansions. Never played again after that
I used to play lineage 2 every hour of the day and even skipped my own birthday just to farm

Unfortunately, maybe because I’ve gotten older, there aren’t many games that do that anymore. and when they do it’s not even on a fraction of the scale of wow, usually just an immersive story game like God of War.
I’ve been playing for almost 19 years lol. Just gotta find chill people that play for fun. Sure we push m+ to over 3k but it’s chill. When it stops being fun, we stop.
I just play casual pvp and hunt transmogs. Really dont understand why people spend there lives on it. Im fully conquest geared in 1 month of playing casual. It only takes up loads of time if you let if you want best in slot and play pve
