Good job Mark I have missed most of this build as working away building stone so will have to sit down with a big mug of tea and a cake and spend a few hours watching it from the start now I am home 👍
i always find making the old building meet the new extension is always where the problems arise and always a ball ache ....cracking job mate some graft in that 1 .....keep up the good work mark love the vids
Ha ha think it was my forty fith go 😂😂. Yere the pool table was at the other side of the wall. Had to move it to take old floor. Them bloody things are heavy will need a crain to get it out 😂😂😂👍👍👍
Making a cracking job of that extension, Mark.👍 I had the exact same job of building dwarf walls to support new joists recently.....what a pain in the arse of a job it was!😂😂 Hope you are keeping busy, I'm finding there are not enough hours in the day at the moment.....it's crazy!
😂😂They are a bit of a pain ant they lol. Yere got a fair bit booked in. Turned a few down I don't like weekend work lol. Got quite a few little jobs after this. Getting plans sent for another extension minght do a short vid showing them maybe a bit of how I price. Do you think it worth doing a short vid about it.👍
Hi Mark, another great video mate 👍. You could have used masonary hangers on that block wall mate & used your new grinder to slot them 😜😉. We always had to use chicken wire under ceiling joists to hold the insulation, that was so burning insulation wouldn't fall on firemen in event of a fire. Hope you have a great weekend mate 👍 Regards Tim

I used 100mm there are plenty of fixings to use. There are bolts too. The ones I used were concrete screws but you need to use plenty of these and put washers on. But really easy to use drill 6.5mm hole then they just screw in. 👍

@@MrGlenfraser hi Glen I done a few before and put a wall plate on inner and outer skin. Then just put insulation and cladding over the wall plate to cover it. @@markhep thanks for the prompt reply.....really enjoying your videos. Also, is it cheaper to do it this way than putting in the concrete as wouldn't that be more long lasting?
Hi Mark what are your spacings between the joists? I’m building my extension and the drawings (which building control passed) state 600 centres with sleeper wall through the middle. But the joiner has come to fit the joists and says the centres should be 400. What do you think?
Hi mate I done mine at 450. But if your joiner wants to do them at 400. I would put them in at that. You will only probley need 2 or 3 more. So won't be that expensive and you know you won't have any problems later on. 600 does seem a big span 👍👍👍
Hi there if the house is joined to another one they normally run the length of the house. But it could run anyway the builder wanted to put them in . It's in possible to be sure with out looking under the carpet or flooring 👍
1. i only spotted what looked like a single air brick - a 9" x 3" on the back wall. Lack of air bricks means lack of through ventilation. 2. you blocked off ventilation at the break-thro cav wall with the solid blocking? 3. at the same place you dropped stubby posts from the joists down on to the oversite - what for? what were they supporting? 4. No need for packing up with some brickwork below the new joist tail at the cav wall - why? In fact doing that could give later problems with creaking. The old & the new joists only need supporting once as they cross over. 5. in that blockwork the ledger needed stronger fixings than you used. 6. you used the wrong kind of hangers - check the Simpson manual for the correct ones.
I mike we put 6 air bricks in the extension 3 at each side and left big gaps in original wall the posts were put in to hold it wile the cement went off we later removed these 👍
This is super interesting. If you were doing a new build that needed to have wet rooms screeded. Would you do the screeding before the floor joists (knowing how high the floor will end up being? Then would you plaster before laying the floor boards?

Are you just planning on screening the wet room then timber the rest of it
You can have a wet room on a timber floor.you cut a tray into the joists then put a wet room membrane down and tile over
I would lay floor boards first 👍
