Good job, natural hydraulic lime is great but really have to mix the life out of it and pack it in when repointing and then beat it back wirh a stiff brush/churn brush, did loads of brickwork and stonework builds using it and the finished jobs have always looked class
@@scoyle1750 definitely mate .I love the look of it but it does take twice as long lol👍👍👍
Better you than me, I don’t have the patience these days for grinding and repointing large areas. If I may make an observation, not a good idea to gauge product of different mass using a flat trowel or shovel. The heavier thicker mass product (sand) will bulk up versus the lighter less thick product ( lime or cement) will not bulk up. This is why batching mortar using a shovel is no good. Batching using a container or bucket is best. I see guys batching mortar thinking that 6 shovels of sand and 1 shovel of cement gives them 6:1 ratio, it doesn’t. Their shovel of cement is not the same bulked up quantity as their bulked up fatty sand. Their ratio they think is 6:1 is often more like 10:1. Experienced guys know to make sure they put extra cement in to make up for this discrepancy but it’s still hit and miss. In the early days I shovelled the cement but later decided to gauge the cement in a bucket and shovel the sand. It’s actually easier as well as more accurate. I forget the quantities now, I haven’t been on the trowel for several years, but I think I worked out it was 1 1/2 buckets of cement into the mixer with 12 heaped shovels of sand. Some builders require both cement and sand to be bucket batched, but it’s not necessary to gauge both, but I do believe in bucket batching the cement. Especially if the labourer or apprentice is doing the mixing.
Yes you right mate if I get the lads to do it it would come out different to mine made that mistake before.i agree with you bucket is much better way 👍👍👍
Half of the time they never have nhl in always have to go like Malton or sumat if I get caught short🤪 you’d think they’d stock it most places 🤷🏻♂️
@@craigstyrin3453 🤣yes bloody no one seems to sell it 👍👍
@@markhep especially York and your not to far from me! Amount of solid houses in Yorkshire, well there every where 🤣
@@craigstyrin3453 🤣yes .that's probably why they bloody cement them lol .more work for us though when they do lol 👍👍
Looks really good work
@@robertmorris5214 cheers mate
Another lovely job Mark! I’m just repointing my house here in Cardiff and I’m already hating disking out the old black ash mortar😂. I’m going for 5 sand and 1 cement. I’m still not sure what’s best for my house as nobody can seem to agree. I’d love to go from black to that light lime though I’ll tell you that much mate 👌
@@neil3867 thanks mate .you could do 5 sand one cement and one hydrated lime that would make it light .that's what mix I used on that big stone extension I built not long ago.its on my channel if you wanted to have a look at the colour of it 👍👍👍
Hello Mark not getting at you but NHL lime should really be mixed for around 20 min guessing your not far off mate
@@mrfrank8234 yes I mix it really slow then let it rest and mix it a bit more .it's a bit easier in a mixer you can just leave it on then can't you 👍👍👍
@@markhep Nice job mate 👍
@@mrfrank8234 cheers mate 👍👍👍
😂 I went to York for my bag of lime, Travis Perkins I think😂 it makes good job on old lime mortar walls, good tip about using dark sand because it does dry a light colour
@@nettiejackson9246 yes mate was same place.only the one place I could find it .I told them it's hard to get hold of .he said that's funny we sell loads of it .I said yes because you the only bloody place that sells it 🤣👍👍
25 knicker for lime... Thats like me trying to track down white mortar...
@@glynnepritchard2526 yere it's a bit ridiculous really .Apparently they don't make it hear it's imported from Europe that's what they told me lol 👍👍👍
Done 2 jobs in lime but both stone No matter what we did , just cracked all over We used guns to put it in but got told not to use them
@@Ste-ux1rm yes I wouldn't use a gun with it you really have to pack it in there .it could be the gun that was the problem or the stone was just sucking out the water too fast for it 👍👍👍
was that all in with materials
Yes that was for the hole lot 👍
Nice job Mark, must be soul destroying see all that wall to do! Looks more in keeping at the end though. Stay well.
🤣yes mate I had enough the last few days couldn't do it every day lol 👍👍👍
soul destroying,i tried to not look left or right too far but just in front of me,it never worked for me.Someone whos fast then its not that bad......
@@williamwilliam7100 🤣yes my lad doesn't like it at all .but I think when he learns how to to it properly he will start and enjoy it a bit more hopefully lol 👍👍
Its 300mm rest either side not the standard for over 2.3m ?
150mm minimum.but more the better I suppose 👍
Looks great. Never seen those in bench exhaust systems in action.

Yere that kitchen I love it would have loved to have fitted that one myself.big room that now 👍👍👍
Why have you used different levelling system for the walls?
We ran out of the others.i was doing a bathroom down stairs at the same time .I found that they are all pritty good 👍👍👍
@@markhep no worries…. Which ones would you say are better? I’m about to start my bathroom (I am a novice) first time) Many thanks for the reply buddy.
@@robertthomas8381I would pick whatever is the cheapest you can get they all work great.the orange ones you need to take out day next morning and you can re use them .the yellow ones snap off and you just buy more white plastic bits to go with the yellow wedges 👍👍
I always thought that the insulation in the wall cavity had to be taped on the joints?
Yere I do tape it now this was a few years back they wasn't that bothered then 👍
8:39 no slates ?
Don't forget to get a discount from your water company for not taking your roof water away

Monster tiles for a very large kitchen space. Well done Mark looks great
Cheers pat yere they a bit heavy when you put the back butter on .look grate though and wasn't that hard to lay .if you did it in my kitchen probably one needs 6 tiles lol 👍👍👍
Thats a nice job Mark. Taking care so all the joints flow, classic. My heart was in my mouth when you panned the bottom of the stairs after laying. I thought the tile was cracked but it was just the pattern 😮 phew. Thanks for the update
Cheers Nigel 🤣yere had to be careful with those tiles £50 each 👍👍
I’m losing track, you move so fast Mark, but is this the big steel job?
@@Mark-gf7yw 🤣yes mate the guy just txt me to go back for the bits so should be able to get a finished video on this one 👍👍👍
expensive floor from support batons to finished tile must be more than £200 sq m with heating
@@edwarddown448 yes mate cost a few pounds .just added it up and a think you came pritty much spot on with the price there 👍👍
Looking good Mark, I wasn’t sure about low level cooker hob in the middle of the kitchen early in the vlog but you managed to hide it (LOL). Great job. Stay well.
Cheers mate .yes was after a video of it all finished but couldn't get one . hopefully I am going back to see it finished will do a video of it 👍👍
The one I'm replacing is a non timer one, I've mistakenly ordered a timed one, can I use a timed one or will only a non timed one work?
What is the replacement model number please?
I had to do that for my parent's wet room, albeit with slightly smaller tiles. What I did was have the centre of the tile joins running to the centre of the drain so it was symmetrical, although I had to make sure that it didn't leave me with silly narrow strips by the walls or the edges of the shower tray fall. However, I can see a truly symmetrical cut in both directions won't work with those sized tiles. In all, I found it something of a nightmare to get it right. with rather smaller tiles then you have to line up diagonal cuts in two rows each side. Also, the shower fal area was rectangular, so the cuts were not 45 degrees and their had to be cuts where the fall started. Something to be planned before buying the tiles I think, and maybe larger tiles are easier. I have my own bathroom to do some time.
@@TheEulerID nice .yes I think larger are easier.i done one in pebble witch was easy to get the fall but a lot of cuts 👍👍
Where I live, you can't rest structure on brick veneer. The building code says that brick veneer can only support its own weight.
@@MrWaldorfian really do you put a post down the back to hold it then 👍👍
They are really safety concerned working off one board
You don't really need to put a line or a level on a ridge, on a hip yes definitely
