Original universal....or tom cruise brendan frasier 4 pack?
Channel Awesome I share your pain Doug. When I was a kid this film would annoy the living crap out of me everything it was on TV.
This film was so bad that it prompted me to avoid the Disney Channel all together.
Please bring back dreamworksaury
You already know that when a Disneycember is 10 minutes long, the movie is absolute shit and that Doug is gonna be fuckin' *FURIOUS.*
But it's the funnest reviews to watch. *Grabs popcorn and soda*
It should of been less if you hate it so much I understand why people hate it but fact is this movie put dcom music on the map then hsm came and dcoms blew up even on the premiere of hsm cheetah girls sequel was high. I'm sorry that doug is mad but hey kids don't care
Jerrie the claun Well, the Mary Poppins review was about seven minutes long, and it was Doug gushing about how GOOD it was.
CHEETAH GIRLS: Um, we’re not gonna wear animal masks while we perform!
PRODUCERS: But the chart says...
Quick, get Rob, and Malcolm to play the 'Chart Experts'. This, like 'Can Of Worms', NEEDS to be A 'Nostalgia Critic' episode, or at least a 'Cinema Snob' episode! God damn, FUCK this movie!
Marc Baker
Can of Worms isn't really for kids though. It is stupid(even for a 5 year old), disgusting, scary and makes no sense. What would a child enjoy in that?
"You're everything that is wrong with entertainment!"
22martinez1
But the CHART SAYS...
This needs a 1st viewing by a drunk Doug and Rob
Optimus hear hear
OMG, THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS!
I was just thinking that!!
I hope they do! I was about to comment that but you beat me to it. ;))
Rob doesn't watch the Disneycembers.
"Yeah! It's _that_ bad, _that_ manipulative, and _that_ annoying."
It's an early 2000s tween girls' girl power pop band movie based on a late-late-late 1990s to early 2000s tween girls' girl power pop band novel series. Books 2 to 5 were: _Shop in the Name of Love,_ _Who's 'Bout to Bounce?,_ _Hey, Ho, Hollywood!,_ and _Woof, There It Is._ There's no real excuse for how grating it all is, but I pity the poor fools who had to try to paint with _that_ palette.
And yet, I liked it growing up. No really, I don't understand what people mean when they say "annoying". I still sing those songs, not to mention… I'm A DUDE. Yes, I get that it's bad for many reasons, but honestly, I watched it for the music. The rest of the story is… "lacking" to say the least.
I get the sense that most of us watched for the music.
Music was the only real takeaway I got years down the road. It was also clearly what Disney wanted people to get out of it.
Yeah I’m not afraid to say I love this film. I watched it with my older sister all the time growing up and I still remember the songs.
Lindsay Cutter You do not have the same standards, period...do not get upset at this.
Aqua, Bubbles, Chanel, and Doe?
.............
Those sound like stripper names.
LOL, now I imagined that being said by Lucifer (from the TV show)... when he mentioned the same thing about Trixie. :)
Finally someone said it!
Aqua is a shortened version of the girl's name same with Doe... Chanel is a brand... Bubbles was a childhood nickname.
It just needs a Ruby.
Aqua - Barbie Girl
Bubbles - Powerpuff Girl
Chanel - Scream Queen
Doe - ........D’OH
Wow. This is the Mulan II of this year’s Disneycember. This is the one that broke him.
Alex Klepp I think that High School Musical, Camp Rock, Descendants, or Wizards of Waverly Place will break him more.
Alex Klepp that's exactly what I was thinking!
I at least hope that he enjoys the KIM POSSIBLE movie. Me and my little sister were huge KP fans back in the day!
Alex Klepp the home on the range of this year's disneycember
I wonder if he blew his mic again
Hopefully Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension will do the opposite to Doug. Phineas and Ferb was amazing and so is their movie.
A 9 minute Doug rant about an awful Disney movie?! It must be my birthday today!
Giovanni Orellana I love Doug Rants
Giovanni Orellana YOU'RE AN IDIOTIC IDIOTS IDIOT will forever be the greatest insult ever
They are like little Nostalgia Critic bits!
Giovanni Orellana I love raven, but the cheetah girls movie is annoying to the max.
Giovanni Orellana Happy birthday.
“Imagine the Jem and the Holograms movie mixed with the Mamma Mia movie!” I literally screamed in fear at that part!
That's my NIGHTMARE!!!
TheDreweMaster I respect Doug's decision. Also cheetah girls is way better than jem
This makes those two movies look like The Fucking Empire Strikes Back.
COMBINED!!!
I feel like you literally didn't.
frozenaorta No, I actually did. No joke.
"It's for kids" is never a good excuse.
It may not be a good excuse but it IS an excuse. Most people, including producers and screenwriters, simply expect less from children's materials. :(
EvilDylan Wreck-it Ralph was for kids.
EvilDylan Agreed. Clone Wars was for kids and Savage Opress killing a Jedi with a charge was one of the less brutal death scenes there, and don't even get me started on the great dramatic moments.
If anyone of those "its for kids" marketing idiots said that to Walt Disney, he would fire them the next second. Walt never accepted that excuse ever. Hell, he greenlit the violent, rash, insane and shocking Goofy cartoons of the 50s. He did war propaganda when his material didn't reach Europe during WW2. So many things that adults also could enjoy at that time. Fantasia, though flopping at the box office, was an amazing visual masterpiece.
Someone needs to remove this "Lets make only for Kids" mindset of the marketing team at Disney.
Actually, Disney movies are STILL killing it in this decade. And while I still do wish they went back to traditional animation, a movie called Disenchanted is live-action, with traditionally animated segments in it. It's coming out next year.
I'll be REALLY excited, not JUST because it has traditional animation in it, it's also a live-action kids movie set in the year it comes out in, which is a trend I'm noticing that is starting appearing less and less, which is rather unfortunate.
The screaming montage sounded like children in a burning building
I will never unhear that.
I wouldn't put it past these idiots to do a musical number and squee constantly while in a burning building.
Well, the chart says...
CJ_CrushingC_R ... But the chart says...
No other statement more fitting for this piece of cheetah droppings.
But the Rotten Tomatoes score says....
Doug Walker: *exploded*
Damn; Doug went Mulan II on this one
"Even junk food has to taste good."
Damn.......
if this film broke Doug, imagine Rob, who hates both Mamma Mia and the Jem movie.
NFSF1McLaren Probably tried strangling Doug at one point while watching this and screaming, "WHY ARE WE WATCHING THIS???".
NFSF1McLaren I really want to ask him about it, and see him go nuts. 😂
TheDreweMaster Let’s ask on Rob’s FB page it would be hilarious!
@@IAmInfinitus208 so, what was the response?
I promised myself I wouldn't cry if he hated something I used to like...
*lets a single tear out*
I'm okay.
Isagail It was pretty tough to listen, I didn't felt this distraught after his self-professed hatred of Phil Collins in Tarzan and Brother Bear
Isagail Isagail Love what you love! It makes you who you are. Not everybody agrees but that’s okay. “You are enough! You are so enough it’s unbelievable how enough you are.”(Sierra Boggess). I know I’m not gonna judge you for it.💕
MusicalRose I agree
Don't worry he will be ruining many of our childhoods this month
Tears are fine and well, but does his critique/diatribe ring true whatsoever?
I've not seen it - I'm sure I tried to avoid this kind of product, on the surface it makes my skin crawl, but I'm familiar with the sort of pandering he's describing.
_Although, he was unfair to Bridge to Terebithia and Lady in the Water IMO. _
Maybe you should turn this to an actual Nostalgia Critic review.
Boy I do love seeing people in pain and suffering.
You're sick, man! Sick!
...Oh, who am I kidding, I love it too.
I think that’s basically what you just watched.
not enough pain and suffering for me.... (evil laugh)
Wait, their names are all like... water themed?
They're the CHEETAH girls, you'd think they'd be all cat themed! :/
KnaveMurdok ah yes, fluffy, kitty, claws and pussy
KnaveMurdok I just realized their names are all water themed...except for Dorinda...
Ah yes..
Kit
Leo
Tiger
And...
Cougar
this one gets my vote
Only one has a water themed name. Galleria, Chanel, Dorinda, and Aquanetta.
I don't think he liked it
bladudemovies yeah, there are subtle hints in his inflections, almost unnoticeable 😋
Is that what you got from it? I couldn't tell. He was being pretty low key. How weird. :v
"You _are_ all idiots, you're IDIOTIC IDIOT IDIOTS!"
Like, he's being so vague here, I still can't tell whether he likes the characters or not
He wasnt supposed to its for the demographic at that time period he was suppose to watch adult movies for his age
CrazyNaut he said that at the exact time i read your coment
Guys. Doug criticising a movie doesn't make it bad for you to like it or even love it. I love a whole bunch of movies that Doug hates. Some for the pure nostalgia and some because I honestly think it doesn't get the credit that it deserves.
He's just there to provide a perspective and most of the time some funny commentary. You're allowed to disagree with him even if it's purely out of nostalgia. His opinion is just that, an opinion. Consider his points but disagree with them all you want. He's not God. His words aren't everything.
I like cheetah girls but I can still see where he's coming from even if I may disagree on some parts. And that's fine. Liking something Doug dislikes doesn't take away its value.
Atiqah Diyana I agree.
Atiqah Diyana I also agree, besides the movie was fourteen years ago, so lets not get emotionally triggered if he berates other DCOM from our childhood that were even that long ago
Finally someone gets it :)
No, it doesn't make it bad. It's not like Doug can turn a good movie into a bad one just by talking about it.
Doug made a video about it because it was already bad to begin with.
mr. Wldasoldmysoul4pussyasateen mamma Mia,
Moulin rouge. Those are some of the big ones.
I adore these movies and I honestly find doug's hatred for them hilarious. Princess diaries 2. That's one as well
"Cheetahs, Girl Power."
Um... Doug... the name of the song is Girl Power. She was telling them what song to sing.
Shady Doorags exactly. That was my favorite song too!
He shows no respect for the cheetah girls lore
IndyClipz what the fuck are you talking about?!? There is no lore! This movie fucking sucks and only 12 year old girls might see this as a good movie. It might even be worse than the emoji movie. At least the emoji had good animation!!!!
I think IndyClipz was being sarcastic. The mere notion that Cheetah Girls has a lore is proof enough.
It's obvo Doug skipped reading the Cheetah Girls Silmarillion.
I dont remember them being this annoying. Oh nostalgia goggles how you deceive me.
Exactly, and I remember actually liking this movie when I was like...8 years old. I even had the book and was mesmerized by the cover art.
I remember liking this movie.
Hell, the only thing I remember now about this movie is the CD, the short fascination I had with leopard print outfits and fictional bands, and the goddamn dog ending. Plus, I don't remember finding the members of 3LW annoying or Raven until finding this review.
that's what the nostalgia critic's for
This should have been a full nostalgia critic review
doug wouldnt survive it
"doug wouldnt survive it" If he survived Batman & Robin and The Room, he can survive anything...
Well, those are actually, in a way, so bad they are enjoyable. Now, Doug is a man, who survived Foodfight, both Breaking Dawns, and after seeing Norm Of The North shrugged it off as "terrible, but not the worst thing I've seen" so your point still stands...
Well he's mentioned Galleria/Bubble's actress a couple of times before (Princess Diaries 2)
He just did. And in addition to those movie, what about Garbage Pail Kids?
This movie DEFINETELY deserves the Nostalgia Critic treatment. Heck, it could be the one where the Nostalgia Critic almost gives up on reviewing bad movies.
But he already reviewed Jem.
He almost did with Freddy got fingered
Did you forget Garbage Pail Kids?
I could see him reviewing all of the 3 like he did with the chipmunks movies.
Honestly I'd be more interested in the First Viewing. I want to see Rob SUFFER.
With all the talk of hypocrisy, I’m surprised Doug didn’t bring up that their big audition song was called “Cinderella,” and was about how they didn’t want to be passive like her. Even as a kid, watching this on the DISNEY CHANNEL, I knew that was some pandering bs.
To be fair, the damsel in distress trope was extremely overplayed (and still is to a certain extent) by the time this movie came out. That probably was the moment even girls realized it too.
Great intro
We finally reached the part of Disney channel original movies we all feared doug would have dread to sit through.
Nathaniel Foga good
Shit as just began.
Nathaniel Foga yes
Fun fact: This was inspired by a novel series, which I read when I was 8 or so.
I hate to be that guy who always says the book's better than the movie, but I remember the books being *way* better than this movie. They had great messages for kids about friendship and following your dreams. And hey, books are a silent medium (no annoying screaming every five seconds), so that's an added bonus.
My sister actually had a few of the novels...and only tolerated the movie because of Raven Symone.
Haha yeah I loved Raven too, and the movie was also very meh for me. I'm sure I'd flip a desk if I watched it now.
I also liked the books too. I was mad because they didn't do Aquanette's twin sister or even give any real background on her. The only ones you really knew anything about was Galleria, Dorinda, and Chanel. The movies were okay compared to the books
Laura Maue I had a feeling that the movie took some liberties.
Laura Maue the books were cool
Wouldn’t conventionally attractive girls wearing masks to cover their faces something the pop industry would avoid marketing?
8bitdiedie I'd totally agree with you, but don't forget all those Youporn fanboys - they too need bands to look up to
8bitdiedie I was literally thinking the same thing!
This movie in a nutshell:
"Well, the chart says..."
"You're everything that is wrong with entertainment!"
22martinez1 but the chart says
Pink Princess *Turns the tv off
I like the part when he slowly descends to madness and despair during the whole review.
+
Its funny cuz these reviews only last about 5 minutes. I knew I was in for a rant when I saw this was almost 10.
Same. Was not disappointed.
"Girl power!" Honey, you're not a Spice Girl!
Except for "Girl Power" is literally the name of the song. I own the album, to my eternal shame... but still its actually the name of the song.
Lyssa Dobie I own the CD as well as the proud family and Kim possible soundtrack so don't feel to bad.
Now the Kim Possible Soundtrack I would be all about. That was an amazing show and one of my all time favorites! :)
'LET'S BE FRIENDS! PREPARE TP BE STOMPED! GIRL POWERRRRR!'
I see your point, Doug, but their names are actually Galleria, Chanel, Aquanetta and Dorinda. I know it isn't any better than the names you said but it is what is.
Lydia Cebreros I mean the movie still probably isn’t as good (as bad as how he makes it to he, up to debate) but it could be he was so annoyed he misheard it
SpookyRoseV I'm not faulting him for it. I've been there, but I didn't think it was that bad. It's harmless, to be honest.
Sammy R. Oh I know it doesn't. But it's not that bad. I've seen more recent big budget films worse than this movie.
Lydia Cebreros Sounds like 2 dollar hooker names.
Sammy R. Touché 😂
This felt like a Nostalgia critic review
The fuckery was so strong, it made him morph into the Critic.
I kinda want this movie to get the full nostalgia critic treatment, but he's already done Jem and the holograms and Alvin and the chipmunks so I think he's reviewed enough movies like this.
It should be a nostalgia critic review
Although the Critic is an exaggeration of Doug, it's still a version of Doug.
Oh shit, I just realised it wasn't supposed to be one
Dude I just hated girls in my class singing these songs non stop when I was a kid but you took this to a whole nother level. In a sick way I'm proud of you Doug, merry christmas.
*sees that the critic is gonna review cheetah girls*
This gon be gold.
It is gold. Pure gold. I feel like i have found a treasure chest.
Now review the 6 dozen sequels
Do you want him to (literally) explode?
It only had two sequels.
LoliceMe
_I think it was a joke_
The 2nd one was the best movie tho
Lol there's no way that dumpster fire had a good sequel.
I'm glad I avoided them.
what's funny is that even though the cheetah girls were an actual band Raven was only part of the movies and not actually in the concerts. She was the entire reason they sounded good so that was a dumb move on them.
I mean two of the other chicks were already pretty established at the time with 3LW. I mean Raven wasn't really a superstar, unless you were part of the Disney crowd. It's honestly hard telling lol.
That's so Raven>Cheetah Girls
pelleman02wb I suppose. She was a well known child actress though before Disney.
Son Goku im pretty sure the reason raven wasn't part of the actual band cause she was already signed to Hollywood Records the label which the cheetah girls were signed to, and something about her going to school?
@@JBP12795 Wasn't the reason for her not being in the real-life band was that she got into drama with the other girls? Most notably, Kiely Williams?
OMG, this movie meant so much to me and friends as a kid, though I'm sure I would find all the squealing and such annoying now. However, while I can see the movie being a huge hypocrite for supposedly promoting being yourself while also totally being a part of the teenybopper pop band machine, I still find some value in it for representation. Not many black girls and girls of color saw themselves represented in popular culture (and we've definitely progressed since then, but there's still a ton of work to do), and this is one of the few times they did. And not only that, they got to see themselves as a part of a successful musical act. I think that means something, and people shouldn't be ashamed for liking this movie for that reason. It was one of the few Disney channel movies starring women of color, and that's something totally worth celebrating.
When Galeria said “Girl Power”, she was telling the Cheetahs which song they were gonna preform.... 😂
I wanna see this as a Nostalgia Critic review
What more could he say? This is already 3 times longer than your average Disneycember review and he was pretty thorough.
Ummm she’s saying “Girl Power” because she’s telling the girls the name of the song that they are going to sing. She wasn’t just saying like “I am woman, hear me roar.”
Boy that didn't take long for a DCOM to break Doug lol
RibottoStudio Well this was the 13th one he covered.
Halfway through the month? I would say I expected him to break earlier. lol
We’re not even at high school musical yet.
Lmfao I love this review
The "IDIOTS" part is so perfect.
Jeremy Lewis I watched this review 100 times.
Please Doug, review Bratz the movie. Trust me, you'll like it.
Micah Williams I think he did, google it
He technically already did that with Nostalgia Chick when she was still around
RIP Nostalga Chick RIP Bootsy RIP AVGN Guitar Guy.
Bratz is Awful he wouldn't Like it
Yeah, you should see Animat when he reviewed it. He loved it.😏
I liked the second cheetah girls movie better. The one where they go the Barcelona?
Kitty Kat Yeah and the songs are kinda catchy too, that movie made me fall in love with Barcelona. It’s such a beautiful place, I’d love to visit there someday.
I liked that one
That I can agree with, its not the Barcelona, its Barcelona
Agree, it is better in characters, music, dances, even stories, is my favorite cheetah girls movie
Belinda ❤️
When will he get to The Color of Friendship?
AzrielSword100 I don't think he's doing that one because it seems he's going in chronological order by date and popularity and I dont think he already skipped it
I wish he would, though. I love that movie!
Petition to have him do it for black history month?
I was hoping he'd review My Date with the President's Daughter, but he didn't. He seems to be doing these films in the order in which they were released by year. The Color of Friendship was released in the late '90s. He seems to have skipped it.
I doubt he will hate the color of friendship if he likes luck of the irish
My biggest nitpick with the movie is, for the Cheetah Girls, they don't know jack about cheetahs. They constantly wear LEOPARD spots, their handshake uses the cliché PANTHER growl, and, worst of all, THEY REFER TO CHEETAHS AS THE FASTEST AND FIERCEST ANIMALS IN THE JUNGLE. Do I really need to explain what's wrong with that?!
...although I kinda wish Global Getdown was a real thing.
Graphite Tail Grace wait, cheetahs aren’t the fastest?!? I’ve been lied to my whole life. Lol tell me Now whose the fastest feline in the jungle/world.
Well, I was half wrong. Cheetahs are actually the fastest land animal, I was just being stupid and remembering facts wrong. (The fastest animal overall is the peregrine falcon, according to Wikipedia) But I do know for a fact that cheetahs live on the Savannah, not the jungle, and I think the big cats can be on equal levels of ferocity.
Cheetahs arent really the most ferocious cat. They're only ferocious toward the prey they chase and catch. They are a rather weak predator. They have to eat their prey as fast as they can before larger and stronger predators such as lions, come along and steal their kill. They often retreat instead of fighting to keep their kills. Jaguars are vicious though. Even vultures can harrass them into giving up their kills when they can.
As for the fastest land animal. True that cheetahs are damn fast, but if you think about it, its actually the tiger beetle that would take the first place against the other fast animals.......if they were a lot bigger that is. They're definitely considered the fastest insect though for sure. Just something I thought you'd find interesting. I definitely was surprised when I first learned about that. Tiger beetles are damn vicious too....askabiologist.asu.edu/explore/chasing-tiny-tigers heres some source for ya :)
I read somewhere that cheetas are actually pretty chill for big cats and that they are comparably easy to train.
Funnily enough, Doug is similarly lacking in knowledge - he called the leopard in Tarzan a cheetah in his original Disneycember review of that film.
I’m sure others have commented on this. The reason this was made into a movie rather than just a band is it was based on a book series. But you’re still correct. The purpose of the film series is to sell cds and concert tickets and merchandise. But the idea came from a book that while I wasn’t a huge fan of, was probably positive representation for girls. The characters relied on their talents, hard work, and relationships with each other. And they came from diverse backgrounds. All of the girls were POC in the books. It’s weird to me that people rarely discuss this point. Because white washing is finally being talked about after decades and decades of it. But then again I’m not sure the books were that popular to begin with? I saw this movie before I read the first four book. I ask myself? Why did they need to white wash Dorinda? But I know the answer. They were afraid white tweens wouldn’t identify with this franchise without a white character.
I do have some nostalgia for this first film since it came out when I was in my pre teens. But the slang has aged so bad. If they toned down the slang and catch phrases, it would be more watchable.
I know nobody came here for an essay on whether or not the film is a faithful adaptation to the books. But in defense of the emotional scene about Dorinda being a foster child. That was in the books, and fleshed out. Better developed. In this film that lacked sincerity and substance, I see how it felt out of place.
Finally. To this day, it breaks my brain that Jackal Johnson is played by the guy who voiced Tuxedo Mask in the first North American dub of sailor moon,
In the second movie, they surprisingly made it better by toning the catchphrases down, and developing most of the characters like Ravens character. Where in here, she was atrocious with her ego about fame.
@@gerawallstar3487 That's probably why I prefer the second one better
You know Doug, I would love to see like a first viewing type of video of you watching these kinds of movies. Especially if you yelled shut up at the screen so much lol Also edit in Arnold's "Shut up!" scene from Kindergarten Cop.
While intoxicated.
Entitlement: the movie.
No that's bad moms
icecream hero at least in Bad Moms they were grown adults who had hardships. The latina girl in Cheetah Girls takes her mothers credit card, goes on a shopping spree out of spite for her mother going on a date with a guy who's treating her well. Then when the mom is angry she tries to spin it like she's never there for her. AND THE MOM CAVES!!! In no way is Bad Moms good, it sucks. But at least they were reponsible up until the point of the movie.
So it's the Reality Bites of the 2000s?
Brian Kelly lol yeah
I love Bad mom's it's hilarious I was being satirical
Cheetah Girls is just a preview of what's to come for the rest of the Disney Channel movies, I call it the "Kenny Ortega effect"
Trust me, there are still good ones coming. Especially Kim Possible (: This was just ugh.
Gamelover254 Oh I know there are exceptions,(I loved the Kim Possible movie 💙) but they're still out-numbered by the bubble gum tween fodder.
ECKohns I was gonna say that Cheetah Girls 2 felt more like Kenny Ortega's work then the first one. Now I know why. XD
Wow Doug that was some rant. Should i mention there's a sequel.
TheLadySilverMoon there's two actually
Thinking back on the experience I and other girls had with this film growing up: We were mainly it it for the songs. You're actually right in it being more about a real life band than a film. Never really knew anyone who cared about the plot, for us it was just background noise till the songs came on. (Which were my jams as a kid and I will fight u on it)
When I think about the sheer number of times my grandmother sat through this movie and never complained! Woman had the patience of an angel.
Even as a kid I knew it was stupid
Caleb Boatman I never even saw this as a kid. I saw most of the others around this time, but didnt watch this. I really lucked out there.
+FlyingFocs "Lucked out" is debatable.
I smell a new Nostalgia Critic episode being cooked up.
Ryan F If that's the case, where's his Mulan 2 review?
Ryan F if there's a future NC review of this, just imagine Rob would go through sitting watching it.
He should do disney sequel month
Jared Jams direct to dvd sequels to classic Disney films
klimmr3021 2 years later, your question has been fulfilled.
I forgot how annoying the main plot of the movie was. And the weird thing is, the sub plots could've made for a better movie on their own. There's the foster girl trying to hide her family's financial situation while dealing with being in the foster system & wanting to be a dancer, and one of the rich girls feels like her mother doesn't love her as much as she used to because the mother has a new boyfriend, so she acts out by maxing out her mother's credit cards. Putting the two in their own "how the other half lives" story could've been more interesting, or at least a little less annoying.
I didnt think it was going to be that hard to listen to Doug tear apart a childhood favorite but it was... *silently cries in corner*
Ugh I have mixed feelings about Cheetah Girls. As a 10 year old black girl it felt so good to watch a Disney movie where I saw girls that looked like me. I got this movie on my 10th birthday actually and all of us sat and watched it as we ate our slices of bday cake. You don’t see that a lot with Dis eye to begin with. It was a culture phenomenon for colored girls. I was obsessed. I don’t understand how the Even Stevens review didn’t break you. The show was shit. The movie was shit. The character is just fucking loud, annoying, and obnoxious. I feel like u were annoyed mostly about the fact that they were teenage girls acting like...well teenage girls lol.
Magdalene James I feel you and as an Afro-latina preteen, I LOVED seeing a movie with lots of girls who looked like me or were even a little curvier. That still means something, and nothing can take that away from you
Well based on this review it’s not just the novelty of teen girls acting selfish has passed Doug’s limit of tolerance, but he also hated that most the dialogue of these girls was obnoxious squeeing which he hates in chick flicks(see Mama Mia review), he thinks the writing is not only bad but hypocritical since the film stars what seems to be fake materialistic girls complaining about how music studios are fake and materialistic, and to him the ending makes it seem like people can just miss the important deadlines and still win for something that wasn’t in the official contest. Which I’m sure to a content creator like Doug is somewhat offensive since he most like never gets to miss deadlines for his videos and still get rewarded. Plus for Doug, he probably finds the whole teens depicted as just always acting stupid and selfish degrading as there are other tv/movie teens that are written with much more complexity than that, and much more likable.
@@ChicaDelSol33 That's so awesome!, Really awesome indeed, I myself I just really enjoyed the songs and also, I loved all four of them from the cast
Actually I don’t think any of these girls were actually teenagers when they made this movie. Ah, Hollywood.
I’m still hoping for an Old Vs new Beauty and the Beast, I know he said his hate for the movie, enough in sibling rivalry but I don't care i still want it to happen and want more of it
Christian Salgado Yes I love the original classic and refuse to watch the remake
James Moyner watch it It’s not bad
Why watch a meh movie when you can just watch the best version of it instead?
CJ_CrushingC_R That’s what I thought he should do the review as.
Has Old vs New been retired? Haven't seen one in a VERY long time. Regardless, he usually only did those when he found the two versions comparable. In the case B&tB, it seemed clear that he did not.
If you’re a 10 year old girl like I was this shit was crack
I used to love the Cheetah Girls.
To be fair, I liked the second and third movie, never remembered the first one.
THERE'S A THIRD CHEETAH GIRLS MOVIE?!?!?!
ZuperNEZ yeah; it’s the one where three of the girls go to India.
Cassandra Emagena I’m not expecting his reviews to be better than this (at BEST like comparing the Baby Geniuses movies) ,but maybe that can be a sign of relief to him. That the target audience at least liked the ones where they travelled the world more (yet again Sex and the City also did that). Again though I’m only predicting that the reviews are still negative since they still containing squeeing and laughing IIRC ,but at least had the creativity to send them to other parts of the world
ZuperNEZ yep they go to India...kind you I saw it as a kid and I only saw like the first few minutes and the main song. And some of the songs from the second movie. Don’t even remember this movie
Same! I loved the second and third the first didn’t really stick with me as a kid
Boy does this validate my opinions about this movie. I never liked it, and people accused me of "not knowing how to have fun." Glad I was right the whole time that it was a waste of time.
why do you need validation of something you don't like or like? i mean taste is subjective. If they say you cannot "Appreciate something the right way" or "you shouldn't like something cuz i don't like it" they are probably full of shit. (There is a difference though if it is part of a joke)
Alexander C. This was in early high school, so my peers weren't exactly as mature as you're making people out to be. I appreciate your input on liking what I want to like, but it was a different beast being a non girly girl growing up.
WingerB17 You weren't right the whole time, you just have a different opinion than them. Reviewers aren't here to tell you if your opinions are right or wrong, just what they think
Ah okay yeah i know this feeling ^^i was not the manliest man tbh I liked pretty "girly" stuff at the time. (I liked High School Musical among other typical girl things) so i somewhat understand you. It's rough. However i had the fortune of my closest friends being either non-girly girls or respectful boys. I had the validation for things from people closest to me, that's something many people in their youth sometimes need.
P.S.: I don't think people are mature tbh (most of the time we are all little brats xD)
Lets just remember this was fourteen years ago and life goes on
It was based on a book series, and the band came after the movie.
Once more so Doug can get his facts correct.
Is the book like a child's fanfiction of Josie and the Pussycats not unlike 50 shades was to Twilight?
Actually, Doug does say that movies based on bands usually "come AFTER the band".
Yep and there were five girls not four !
It did annoy me...but I did love The Cheetah Girls when I was younger...I was obsessed...so obsessed my teachers told me to stop...so obsessed I tried to start a band in like fifth grade called the Spice, Spice and Sugar Band...
I was so stupid...
Yeah, they did control my 3rd-4th grade through preteen years...so much cheetah print...what the heck was wrong with me???
Becky Nance haha same
Thank you becky for grown up. Cuz some girls never get out of it sometimes.
Hell, I had the exact same problem. Bought the CD, tried to badly write music, start my own band, wear tacky print outfits...*thousand yard stare*
Honestly, you're being too rough on yourself. Look how many grown men STILL get worked up over superheroes and Star Wars. Everyone was obsessed with some dumb thing when they were a kid. (And some people never grow out of it. Like me, for instance.)
mackvinly ssg You’re welcome, and thank you. It’s been hard growing up, and there are some things I wish I did different when I was younger...I’m talking like I’m 30 when I’m 23. I’ll stop talking.
I used to watch this movie over and over and over but if you asked me to name any of the characters or to describe the plot I wouldn’t be able to. It’s honestly forgettable.
Sounds like me every time I saw this movie.... Though I only ended up watching because it was my sister's turn with the TV.
Fucking Bubbles!
Dudley Albert This comment needs more upvotes.
One thing: they don't randomly say, "girl power" before they sing. They obviously didn't before all of the other songs. She said that because she was telling the group that they were going to sing the song literally called "Girl Power."
Doug,I hope you know we all appreciate the pain and sacrifice you go through for our enjoyment.
I’m dying hard right now can’t wait for High school musical 😂😂 .
well at least High School Musical isn't as annoying(only speak for the first one) i can remember actually liking it as a young teenager for what it was. A run of the mill love story that checks everything it has to check (Boy meets girls, girls likes boy, but boy and girl cannot be together!, they come together, they brake up but everything is okay for the grand final).I think it was one of those movies where i expected from the bottom of my heart to hate it but didn't.
Although the sequels are shit to the bone because they don't need to exist. With the exception of the very last one, i guess. At least from what i know about the last HSM they are going to college and break up permanently because they wouldn't be able to maintain a relationship over this distance. It's a good idea especially for the target audience, because live can be hard and you may not be together with the one you love for ever.
@@alexanderc.1272 Actually, in the last HSM film, they get back together at the end of the story (like the first two movies). What happens is that, after Gabriella leaves for college, Troy goes after her and they have an intimate prom dance on the campus grounds (I remember him telling her, "My prom is wherever you are", or something along those lines). They then head back to the high school where (just like the first film) they're late to the musical but still get to participate in it at the last minute. Then Troy announces that he's enrolling in a college near Gabriella's college so they can still be together; Chad is upset at first because he wanted him and Troy to go to the University of Albuquerque to play basketball together but he eventually accepts Troy's decision after Troy tries to cheer him up. Personally, part of me finds Troy's decision questionable because it felt like he made it at the last minute and while it's sweet that he's committed to Gabriella, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't eventually break up again because of how on-and-off again their relationship is, and because college is more diverse than high school, I wouldn't be surprised if they met other people who they take an interest in and end up pursuing instead of staying with each other. Now, it's not that relationships established in high school can't continue on into college and beyond, it's just very rare.
I know Raven had fun on these movies and all that, but HOLY HELL do these movies rip her reputation apart. So glad my sister quickly got out of that phase growing up.
IMVADER2 i think the last few years did that
king ej Exactly
She also left the band after creative differences with one of her castmates and said castmate was written out of "That's So Raven" as a result.
Boy, this film deserves a NC review.
Yes it do. It's a major turdfest
Yes
FUCKING BUBBLES!
The Nostalgia Critic review of "The Cheetah Girls" MUST BE MADE!!!
That voice at the start made me want to throw myself into a wood chipper.
DISNEYCEMBER = THE BEST ADVENT CALENDAR EVER
Weirdly Made we can both agree it will be worth the money though 😂
You had a lot to say on this one....still waiting on High School Musical to break you
Just wait for sharpay's fabulous adventure.
Matt Brown Honestly if his review of the third movie is anything to go by (and yes he already did...and it’s actually fairly positive if only just “okay”) it will not be nearly as harsh as this one. I’m predicting more of “not good ,but serviceable”
High School Musical is not nearly as bad as this. Is it good? Fuck no. But you can tell they were having gun with it, could tell they knew it was stupid and silly and went along with it, and it at least isn't manipulative nearly as bad as this movie is. HSM 1 and 2 are terrible movies, but they have SOME heart to them and you cah tell they tried their best.
High school musical isn't very good but it's still kind of fun y'know
Matt Brown Doubt he'll hate it as much as this.
This so deserves the Nostalgia Critic treatment!
I actually stand with Doug on this movie.
Fight me.
Gizmo Hibiki me too but we can still fight if you want?
Gizmo Hibiki, how about we fight the movies fans together? They're the ones who are wrong.
Hahahahaha i cant wait for him to react to High School Musical
He actually lked the 3rd one
Having heard of the obnoxiousness of this movie, I don't think Doug will actively HATE HSM. I mean at least the songs actually tie into the movie, and it is... harmless.
Something that really bothers me about this movie and nobody seems to notice... They're not wearing cheetah print clothes. The logo wasn't cheetah print for some time too. It was leopard or tiger. Cheetahs also don't growl but I get that you want a roar or whatever for the sound effect bc their chirps aren't cool enough. But seriously? You couldn't find one clothing item with cheetah spots? Not a single one?
This got two sequels... *angrily breathes in and out*
Now THIS is an epic movie roast.
So....thoughts on the two sequel's this movie got?
If Doug finds out he has to watch sequels to this, it's Bat Credit Card all over again.
The Mandalorian yes the second one is better, the third one.... My mind decided to forget about most of it so probably not better
Who's thinking Doug will review this as a Nostalgia Critic episode next year after watching?
The thing that pissed me off most is that they’re called the cheetah girls and they wear mostly leopard print
This movie perfectly sums up 16 year old girls.
If you liked this movie Doug, you should watch Hannah Montana: The Movie 😂😂
LOL. I'd love to see that!
He's looking at Disney Channel MADE FOR TV movies. "Hannah Montana: The Movie" was released in theaters................sadly.
Aww man!
Doug in pain..... is there any sweeter music in the world?
I really loved the Cheetah Girls growing up. 10+ years later and I still want one of their tracksuits.
I really remember the clothing, and nothing else
Aqua? Bubbles? This should have been called Tuna Girls... that made no sense at all, I'm sorry.
Galleria got her name from "Gallery". The books and characters were created after the writer interviewed early Destiny's Child in a Texas gallery. That's why Aqua is from Texas. The movies are not really true to the books tho
lea tom There's a book? Not that I'd read it, but there's a book?
TacklessMiner24 The movies were loosely based on the books.
lea tom Hm. Interesting. I don't know why I said interesting. For some reason I just can't get interested in the Cheetah Girls. I remember one of the sequels that I thought was alright, but I guess it just isn't my thing.
Made about as much sense as this movie.
As a kid, I enjoyed it, but forgot about it for years until recently and, yeah, I felt pretty much the same as you Doug. That said, the band actually came after the success of the movie and I think it was actually based on a book series.
This wasn't already a band tho? Like, they didn't make a movie to promote a pre-existing girl group, this is a movie based off of a book series. Also, sure, some people watched for the "fluff" but many other girls of color watched it because it made them feel validated to see representation on a dcom.
Ashton Hamilton right i looked up to raven at the time and she and this group was basically all i had to relate to on childrens television.
Mieya Young I can't tell you how sincerely sorry I am that you didn't have someone better as a role model in the media to look up to.
I knew how the review was going to go XD...
"F#;:ing Bubbles!" And "lip-syncing" down to the floor a la Smurfs movie. :-D
R. J. Amado That's just one season of RuPaul's Drag Race.
The 5 people who disliked this were the actors who stared in this.
Sorry, Doug, but I love seeing these Disneycembers that make you lose your mind
Wait. So Jem and the Holograms...RIPPED OFF THE PLOT OF THE CHEETAH GIRLS!?!?!?!?
Tuvya Maeir bingo. I'm willing to bet if he hadn't done Jem first this wouldn't have left as sour a taste in Doug's mouth...
No if anything, Jem and the Holograms ripped off Josie and the Pussycats
Cheetah girls x cheetahmen from action 52
Jackaholic Animations the Cheetahmen's backstory had more depth than this movie...
I'm glad someone else also thought of this. Somebody call James Rolfe!
I think someone made rule 34 of that already. If not, well they will now.
Cheetahmen had better music, that's for sure
