Why was his reaction narrowed down to room service, when Kevin also spent his credit card on limousine service, a pizza, and what about the room itself? It was a rich suite. And it was already stocked with junk food, was that included in the room service bill, or the pizza at the limo? Because from what I've seen when they show part of the room service bill is just that ice cream and the toppings he got. Was that entire $967 for the ice cream and toppings? That was the only actual room service we saw him get, if you don't include the already stocked bar or the pizza

In the script, they make a big deal of out Kevin not wanting to go to the cop because he committed credit card fraud. In the first scene, he was suppose to watch the news where they announced a police crack down on credit card fraud of all ages. Original scrips can really help fill plot holes in movies. Often, when the audiences says "Why doesn't he just do this or that", theses issues had been addresses in the scrip, but never made it to screen. So I guess it's the director's fault.

I'll never forget the time we watched this movie in 8th grade in my French class, and we had to watch the French dub with English captions in order to actually have some tie-in to the class. The most hilarious part of the entire experience was the scene in the plane, because the guy who's actually speaking French in the movie simply had the words *Speaking French* as the captions for his entire dialogue.
Sucks they made it have to tie in. I remember back in school they’d just show movies on the final day before Christmas break with zero links to the class. We watched Elf in French class with nothing French in it

Yep. Nobody ever steals anything in the city. Everybody knows New York is just like Japan. You can totally leave bags of money anywhere and it will still be there when you come back.
I don't see this movie as a copy and paste, I see it as upping the ante. - They're in a bigger location - The traps are more painful - Instead of defending his house, he's defending the toy store and children's hospital.
That's the thing though. Everything It looks, sounds, and feels different but it still has the same story beats as the last film. Even the jokes are rehashed.
This, and unfortunately, it forgot the emotion and took a few leaps of logic. I literally skip to Tim Curry, then to the traps because the rest of the movie just doesn't work, even as a kid, it didn't work.

In actuality, he was rather fatigued and increasingly overwhelmed and overworked by his father. Whom kept making him act in multiple movies too much at a time without letting him take any breaks because he was just using him to make money. He was burnt out by the time he was 14 and he quit acting in 1995. His parents, who weren't even married separated and he finally got away from his dad. So yeah, Macaulay was not being a brat or full of him self by any means. It's because his dad was abusive and treated him like a machine instead of a kid.

Greg Sestero, who later played Mark in The Room, wrote Home Alone 2 script (which was actually a self-insert fan-fic set in Disneyland) when he was a kid and sent it to John Hughes. Although Hughes rejected it, he sent along with a handwritten note that tells Sestero to follow his dream. Just a random trivia.
So we have Doug playing the Nostalgia Critic, Uncle Lies and Chester, while Tamara plays Chester and Doe’s daughter, Doe herself and Aunt Despair. That must have been somewhat difficult to do!

As someone who has been to France like three times, I can tell you: They WILL talk to you in French. And they don't care at all that you say "No francais" 10 times during their monologue, they just seem to be happy to be able to talk to someone, even if that someone doesn't know the language. It's almost as if it is their version of going to a therapist.
That hotel staff should get their own spinoff! They're pretty hilarious. Tim Curry, the narcissistic, slimy concierge. Rob Schneider, the conning Starscream bellhop. The stuck-up, aloof female hotel clerk Cliff, the insecure security guard. Just imagine!
I remember thinking Kevin was acting completely different here too. I personally took it as Kevin feeling more confident around his family. Even though his family might not know it, He knows that he is capable of holding-up a house, and taking out 2 criminals all by himself, so he has officially graduated into: 'No fs given,' territory.
I can agree with that. After what he dealt with in the first movie, bullies like Buzz just wouldn’t faze him anymore. That would also explain why he actually retaliated when Buzz embarrassed him during the Christmas concert.

The reasons I love this movie are Tim Curry and the fact that Kevin is definitely trying to murder Harry and Marv in this one. Look at the brutality of his traps here vs the first film. He is trying to straight up ice them, but unfortunately for him, the world was operating on cartoon physics that night.
That makes me think of Pennywise as just a regular circus clown who keeps being regularly victimized by a gang of overly paranoid and imaginative children.
And also the fact he continues to lie there and take the bricks hitting him in the head instead of rolling out of the way. But then again, Marc's never been that bright anyway. 😂

Another set of cool moments are when Kevin does a trap that's similar to the original, and Marv and Harry remember and work around it, just to have Kevin do one better. It'is very Roadrunner-esque. I mean, the whole point is that it's a live action cartoon at that point.

I always thought the homeless woman went into a depression after her breakup. The sadness made her give up on life, and no love from anyone else (her family, friends, other men) could help. That can definitely lead to a spiral that ends in homelessness. But they simplified/dumbed it down so much "for the kids" that it comes across as no real problem.
First off, they never said that and second, she was talking to a KID; why did he need all the details? Still, I agree with her falling into depression and who knows how the divorce went down.
And Doug totally dismisses her as if her problems are not as "real" as other homeless people. She did us a favor by sparing the details of her tragedy. Does the movie get better if she brings up how she started drinking to cope with the depression or whatever else it was?
Yeah one thing he didn't mention in this review is the soundtrack by John Williams which is just terrific and is IMO the best and most memorable part of these movies. It elevated them significantly.
You have to make a reservation just to walk around the lobby. My family just did a home alone 2 themed tour of New York and we tried to get pictures of the plaza.

Actually, the “setting/preparing the trap” score isn’t exactly the same, it’s very similar but not identical. Also, the score includes several new parts, such as the plaza hotel theme, the Duncan’s toy chest theme, and the main score theme of the movie “Christmas star”. John Williams still had a year before schindlers list, so I’m sure he could manage both.
Harry did not slap Marve because he was speaking French, but because Marve was not paying attention to where he was walking and almost created a scene which could of gotten them caught.

I totally realise that Tamara will never read this, but a little tip when you have to speak with a cigar/cigarette in the corner of your mouth. Put a toothpick in the end so you can keep it between your teeth. That way it's a lot easier to talk and not risk having the cigar/cigarette fall from between your lips. Small thing i learned from a dutch actress that had to play a role for multiple seasons of a series and 3 movies while having a cigar in her mouth 99% of the time.
Flanderization: Harry is a lot meaner and grouchier, and Marv dumber and sillier. *Justified for Harry as the two of them just spent nine months in prison due to Kevin's involvement.* As for Marv... well, getting hit by an iron on top of being shot in the forehead with a BB rifle will do that to a person.

I actually watched this one more than the first as a kid. The reason? I'd been to New York as a kid and I recognized the locations. That's really it. I enjoy both films about equally.
Part 2 philosophy: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some may hate that as a premise for this movie, but considering they up the Ampt and has the charm from the original, then honestly, it's not a great movie but still a good movie.
The McCallisters are a terrible family. I know Doug loves to get on his knees and blow the first film and praise how the mother is so caring, but the family is dog-shit. They gang up on Kevin in both films and show little to no concern for him when he's in trouble. At least in Home Alone 3 Alex's siblings showed genuine concern when they learned he could be in actual danger.
They show a basic level of concern. Remember how little his siblings cared in Paris? What about in the hotel in Florida? They always go, "Kevin's not here? Eh he'll be fine" and that's it.
Captain_Hat yup. Just like I did as a kid. Cause as a kid, and you learn about this as you get older, kids don't truly think things will go wrong. Mistakes can always be fixed. Now imagine a kid in a family that has great money and stability and take regular trips. Everything is ALWAYS working out. Not that theyndont care. It's that they cared in their own way. "He's home. HOME. in a secure house, in a nice neighborhood. In N.Y. it's the 2nd time. And it worked out all fine the first time. But for the adults they worried their ass off. So, I'm not sure still why you say they didn't care

It's sad that John Williams is no longer working on films after the fifth Indiana Jones movie. It makes sense but it's still sad because he left such a hard impact on instrumental music in film. I know it's late but pointing it out.
This could've been better if instead of Kevin being alone in New York, he should have been stuck with Buzz. This movie could focus on the brothers connecting and reconciling with one another gaining a new sense of appreciation with eachother.

I love Nostalgic Critics's videos, but Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is one of my favorite Christmas movies besides A Christmas Story. This movie is funny as hell & it is not Christmas until me and my family watch it
The first Home Alone was more about the tension between Kevin and the Bandits and the highlight of the movie was the slapstick pranks which the whole movie was leading up to, where as Home Alone 2 was more of an adventure.
I don’t know what it is about Home Alone 2, but I just find myself having to watch it every time it’s on. Despite its flaws, I still enjoy it. And yes, Tim Curry was great

I personally took it as Kevin feeling more confident around his family. Even though his family might not know it, He knows that he is capable of holding-up a house, and taking out 2 criminals all by himself, so he has officially graduated into: 'No fs given,' territory.
I can agree with that. After what he dealt with in the first movie, bullies like Buzz just wouldn’t faze him anymore. That would also explain why he actually retaliated when Buzz embarrassed him during the Christmas concert.

The reasons I love this movie are Tim Curry and the fact that Kevin is definitely trying to murder Harry and Marv in this one. Look at the brutality of his traps here vs the first film. He is trying to straight up ice them, but unfortunately for him, the world was operating on cartoon physics that night.

Another set of cool moments are when Kevin does a trap that's similar to the original, and Marv and Harry remember and work around it, just to have Kevin do one better.
It'is very Roadrunner-esque. I mean, the whole point is that it's a live action cartoon at that point.

I always thought the homeless woman went into a depression after her breakup. The sadness made her give up on life, and no love from anyone else (her family, friends, other men) could help. That can definitely lead to a spiral that ends in homelessness. But they simplified/dumbed it down so much "for the kids" that it comes across as no real problem.
First off, they never said that and second, she was talking to a KID; why did he need all the details?
Still, I agree with her falling into depression and who knows how the divorce went down.

Actually, the “setting/preparing the trap” score isn’t exactly the same, it’s very similar but not identical. Also, the score includes several new parts, such as the plaza hotel theme, the Duncan’s toy chest theme, and the main score theme of the movie “Christmas star”. John Williams still had a year before schindlers list, so I’m sure he could manage both.
Harry did not slap Marve because he was speaking French, but because Marve was not paying attention to where he was walking and almost created a scene which could of gotten them caught.

I totally realise that Tamara will never read this, but a little tip when you have to speak with a cigar/cigarette in the corner of your mouth. Put a toothpick in the end so you can keep it between your teeth. That way it's a lot easier to talk and not risk having the cigar/cigarette fall from between your lips. Small thing i learned from a dutch actress that had to play a role for multiple seasons of a series and 3 movies while having a cigar in her mouth 99% of the time.

The reason? I'd been to New York as a kid and I recognized the locations. That's really it. I enjoy both films about equally.
The 1st 2 Home Alone movies are easily the best ones in the series. I don't care what people say about the sequel, I still enjoy it
Part 2 philosophy: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some may hate that as a premise for this movie, but considering they up the Ampt and has the charm from the original, then honestly, it's not a great movie but still a good movie.

It's sad that John Williams is no longer working on films after the fifth Indiana Jones movie. It makes sense but it's still sad because he left such a hard impact on instrumental music in film. I know it's late but pointing it out.
This could've been better if instead of Kevin being alone in New York, he should have been stuck with Buzz. This movie could focus on the brothers connecting and reconciling with one another gaining a new sense of appreciation with eachother.

The first Home Alone was more about the tension between Kevin and the Bandits and the highlight of the movie was the slapstick pranks which the whole movie was leading up to, where as Home Alone 2 was more of an adventure.
$900 was all he spent on room service, limousines and pi'zza? The family probably spent that much apiece on last minute airfare on Christmas Eve!

I don’t know what it is about Home Alone 2, but I just find myself having to watch it every time it’s on. Despite its flaws, I still enjoy it. And yes, Tim Curry was great
