- In the Final years of the First Age, the forces of the Valar finally came to aid the Free People of Middle-Earth in their war against Morgoth, and they were joined by a faction of Men known as the Edain. As a reward for their help, the Edain were given many gifts including a special home which they would call Numenor, and the Numenoreans would become the greatest faction of Men, being the longest lived, the most technologically advanced and having the greatest armada that was ever seen in the history of Middle-Earth. In today's episode we'll be discussing the rise of Numenor from the days of their first king called Elros the Half Elven, to their 11th ruler called Minatir, who led the Numenoreans in their war against Sauron.

Hey guys, I'm sorry for delaying this video, but it took me ages to research and prepare, and it's also my longest video yet. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic! Do you think it was possible for Numenor to sustain their glory without eventually growing corrupted? And do you think that we'll get to see these events in the upcoming Lord of the Rings Amazon series? As always subtitles are available and feedback is welcome. I'd also like to thank one of my fellow Lord of the Rings creators called The Red Book for he was kind enough to give me some feedback on some of my research for this topic. If you'd like to check his channel out, I've left a link to it in the video description!
I'm a Tolkien addict of several decades now so I know his tales extremely well. I can't think how many different summaries and analyses of Tolkien's work that I've listened to on YT. What amazes me is how well each new player in this wonderful game conveys their own rendition with such engaging originality of style. I was totally captivated with this retelling and I really look forward to the next episode.
Edain:
There is no life in the void, only death
To know that all the middle earth story came from one person’s mind is mindblowing. All the details almost made me believe this is a documentary, not only a lore
"the numenoreans would come unarmed leaving behind their axes and bows"
Both Tale of Years in LotR and Unfinished Tales specifically say that Tar-Minastir was the king who sent the fleet to help Gil-Galad in 1700, even though the Heirs of Elros in UT says that Tar-Telperien ruled until 1731. It will be interesting to see how the Amazon series will explain this discrepancy. My guess is that there will be a political strife between isolationists and interventionists in Numenor that will lead to Tar-Telperien temporarily abdicating the throne.
I enjoyed this one! Really thorough and beautifully done!
I may be alone in this, but I feel a great deal of empathy towards the Numenorians even when they attacked the Valar.
Could you do; What if: Sauron had (failed) to corrupt the Numenorians and turning some of them against the Valar, but instead were forced to flee back to Mordor!!🤔
Elros' mother was Elwing, not Idril. Idril was his grandmother.
This video made feel very comfortable that i didn't want to end cause i wanted more about Numenor's lore, i hope Amazon doesn't mess up.
Better to have the promise of a greater, immortal place to believe in than to know the world the immortal elves would live in forever. Makes Arda seem like a prison for the elves, why would mankind want it since the creator didn't even live there and had made another place for you? It really means mankind had little faith; but if you know for a fact that immortals exist and they don't claim to have made the world, than the one that does can be banked on.
"The numenorians were great. The numenorians were powerful. Why not immortal? A desire that would one day lead to the utter ruin of their nation."
The best video yet I've seen for preparation for what the Amazon series will evidently be. I hope Amazon's team has informed themselves so well.
Can‘t decide which of the GeekZone voices I love the most.
Thank you SO much for making these videos! Not only are they informative in the lore, but the presentation is really good too! Going to have to watch this again, so much to take in.
What an excellent video! I learned a few things, and that’s rare given my years-long Tolkien obsession, haha! In particular, I had no idea the Wild Men of Dunland had been driven there by conflict with the Numenorians or that the Mallorns of Lorien came from Numenor. Bravo!!!
Nobody has hope for the Amazon series. I would prefer your videos any day. Beautifully done!!!
