The one guy references how this would be misunderstood by "his people", I'm white as white can get and its misunderstood by a lot of mine too! I’m 40 this year and have been following Metallica since I was 17. Still my favourite band, I love that they’re still putting out new material and touring.
The drummer Lars Ulrich put an add out and him and James met, they are considered the founding members of METALLICA gentlemen In the official video there is a post from Metallica saying what it stands for. It’s that everyone thinks of suicide and the fight to realize you are enough, we’re told not to talk about it, so it’s standing up and against suicide and the struggles it brings in your own mind to not listen to the negativity and the voices and to remember YOU ARE ENOUGH
@@jakecarroll5 I’m confused wdym they barely spoke at all they put out a 2-3 paragraph response with this song where what James said was apart of it. The main message James wanted people to know is you’re not alone and to always reach out to people around you and to reach out to people you think may be suicidal. If you’re talking about the little 2/3 sentence abbreviated version of the message they posted then I understand that and gotchu lmao
I didn't get to watch this when it was first released. You all have been giving Metallica a lot of "love" reacting to their videos, so I am watching this video for the first time with you all.
Been following you fellas for sometime now. It’s encouraging to see old metal as well as many genres being revisited and talked about by the younger generation and across ethnic boundaries set up by the old music world. Now, to the meaning and back drop of the song. Think along the lines of Master of Puppets, that song is sung from the perspective of the Drug or the “Master”. And so is this song. It’s sung from the perspective of suicide. Suicide is the one singing the parts of the song if you will. Also, and Just like Master of Puppets, there are two people singing or “telling the story”. It is demonstrating the battle within of those suffering from these thoughts. I will tell you the majority of people have thought about it. I myself had my stepdad (the man who raised me), commit suicide. As well as a nephew. It’s good this is being sung about in such a way.
Just found your page today and absolutely love you guys. First video I saw was a reaction to a Metallica song which I'm a huge fan of. I must add they put on an amazing concert!!!
James Hetfield (guitar/ vocals) and Lars Ulrich (drums) are 59... Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) is 60... Former lead guitarist Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) is 61... Robert Trujillo (bass) is 58... Former bassist Jason Newsted is 59... None of them knew each other before Metallica, but Robert Trujillo opened for Metallica w/ the band Suicidal Tendencies - he joined in 2003. James and Lars met in 1981 in L.A. when they were the only 2 posting ads in a local paper for a "heavy metal band" in the 'musicians wanted' section. They were 18/ 19 and James had just moved out of his brother's house and living in Ron McGovney's house (McGovney was Metallica's original bassist)... Lars was a Danish immigrant kid, still living w/ his parents... he was obsessed w/ the new European heavy metal bands like Motorhead, Venom, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Diamond Head, etc. He would meet his bands when they came to town and made connections w/ people in the local heavy metal scene who promoted and traded the tapes of newer metal bands. Lars auditioned for James' band on drums, but he was terrible... a crappy drum kit, couldn't really play... James said, "Forget it." But then, Lars knew Brian Slagel, who founded L.A. metal label Metal Blade Records in 1981... Slagel said he was collecting demos for an album he called 'Metal Massacre', and Lars asked him if he could have a demo on the record; Slagel said, 'sure'. Ron Quintana was another friend of Lars, who was starting a metal fanzine and couldn't decide on either 'Metal Mania' or 'Metallica'... Lars suggested 'Metal Mania' and took 'Metallica' for himself. Lars went to James again and told him that if they could record a demo, they could be on an album... Eager to start anywhere, James took Lars' offer and the 2 recorded James' song 'Hit the lights'... they asked a local guitarist Lloyd Grant to play on it... 'Hit the lights' made it on the 'Metal Massacre' album in 1981 w/ demos by Steeler, Malice, and Ratt... Metallica's demo got a good feedback, so they decided to make a full band in 1982. James, Lars and Ron McGovney (bass) rehearsed in Ron's garage in 1982 and then Lars' ad in the paper got guitarist Dave Mustaine calling him for an audition... Mustaine was older and his band Panic had just split up, so he needed a new gig. As soon as they head Mustaine play, they knew he was it... Metallica played their first shows opening for Saxon at L.A. club Whiskey-a-go-go w/ Dave Mustaine on guitar and James singing. They recorded a full live demo that year and re-recorded 'Hit the lights'... the demo tape 'No life til leather' circulated all over the USA and found fans in San Franciso, New York City and other metal hotspots. There were clashes early on between Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney... Mustaine also got physical w/ James... Ron McGovney had enough of the mayhem of Metallica and kicked the band out of his home. Lars already sensed that they needed a new bass player... so, his friend Brian Slagel introduced them to a San Francisco band Trauma... Their bassist Cliff Burton was an incredible musician when he saw Trauma perform, and Lars and James asked Cliff to join... After hesitating, Cliff Burton agreed to join only if Metallica would move to San Francisco. James, Lars and Dave packed up and headed to San Francisco in early 1983 and played their first show w/ Cliff Burton there. In NYC, a heavy metal flea market vendor Johnny Zazula and his wife Marsha heard Metallica's demo and were starting a heavy metal label in 1983 called Megaforce Records... They contacted Metallica about coming to NYC to record a debut album w/ Megaforce and the Zazulas offered to manage and book shows for them. But on the drive to NYC, Dave Mustaine was causing conflicts from drug and alcohol abuse, and he would get violent w/ James, Lars, Cliff or anyone he fought with. They decided before they reached NYC that Dave Mustaine would be fired ASAP and listened to other bands' demos to find a new lead guitarist. They loved a demo by Exodus, and decided to contact their guitarist Kirk Hammett. When Metallica arrived in NYC, they told Johnny Zazula that they had to fire Dave Mustaine and send him back to California... Kirk Hammett had formed the band Exodus in San Francisco, but he felt out of place in that band. He heard Metallica's demos, and when he got a call to go to NYC and play in Metallica, he took the chance to join them... Exodus were furious and told him to get lost (They patched things up years later). Metallica had been rehearsing in NYC to record their first album w/ Dave Mustaine... Anthrax was the NYC band that hooked them up w/ a rehearsal space there... With Kirk Hammett coming in, Dave Mustaine was fired one morning and given a bus ticket back to L.A. Kirk Hammett rehearsed w/ Metallica in NYC and it clicked right away... James, Lars, Cliff and Kirk recorded the first Metallica album "Kill 'em all" in 1983, and then Kirk and Cliff were sent back to San Francisco by bus. Dave Mustaine returned to L.A. and wanted revenge against Metallica... he was living in an apartment when he heard a bass player jamming below him. That was bassist David Ellefson, who became Megadeth's bassist in late 1983. Gar Samuelson (drums) auditioned and joined Megadeth... Slayer's guitarist Kerry King offered to play Megadeth's first few shows in 1984... then Gar's friend Chris Poland joined on guitar. That was the first Megadeth line-up. After the death of Cliff Burton in the fall of 1986, Metallica was still touring on their 3rd album 'Master of puppets'... and Lars wanted to do a tour of Japan that year w/ a new bassist... Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records had signed an Arizona band called Flotsam & Jetsam and had just released their first album 'Doomsday for the deceiver'... Jason Newsted was the bassist, and Metallica was his favorite band - he had seen them play Arizona on the 'Ride the Lightning' tour in 1985. Slagel was asked by Metallica to bring in potential bassists to San Francisco to audition, and Slagel asked Newsted if he wanted to try out... Jason Newsted decided to go. He said that Metallica was drinking heavily from their trauma and loss, and bass players were being turned away after barely playing... Newsted had the energy and the skills that Metallica were looking for and made the final cut. But once he was hired and on the road w/ Metallica, the band and crew gave him a rough time hazing him... Newsted became the scapegoat for the loss of Cliff Burton, but he proved his worth for 14 years before he finally left Metallica in 2001.

James is talking about holding on to grudges and resentment and how he found a way to overcome this sickness before he killed himself. That is what the song is about.
Metallica songs are never about promoting a serious issues. They’re issues that we all feel about things within the world and within our lives. This song alone could possibly save a lot of lives of those who are dealing with it. Those who don’t know how to say it and to not be afraid to to tell someone and get help. A permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Ozzy is 74, he just dropped a new album with the late Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Robert Trujillo from Metallica, Zakk Wylde from Ozzy’s 80 band, Duff McKagan from Guns and Roses, Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath and more. When Ozzy calls, legends come running. He has had a rough couple of years with multiple injuries and now has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In spite of all that this new album, Patient Number 9, has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album. The title track is about his wife attempted suicide in 2020, her stay in a mental hospital as well as his last surgery to fix his spine injury from years ago. Remember, Ozzy and Black Sabbath paved the way for bands like Metallica.
My sister found my nephew (her son) and 7 months later we found my sister in a hotel room it was really ruff there for a while..all you can do is pray for people thanks for doing this reaction.❤
"'Screaming Suicide' addresses the taboo word of suicide," Metallica's James Hetfield explained. "The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside," Hetfield continued of the track. "It's ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another, I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it's a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone.”
It's true, the state will hold you for stabilization until you're no longer a threat to yourself or others. I worked in a mental ward for a while, we got many patients in who had tried to kill themselves or made serious threats to do so. Metallica was my biggest lifeline when I was a teenager in the 80's and 90's, also the band Suicidal Tendencies believe it or not (Metallica's current bassist Rob Trujillo was in that band too). Their music got me through some extremely rough and dark times, total lifesavers.
Powerful message from Metallica, vibe of this track hits different, they have Fade to Black, character doesn't make it, Sad But True, character stays bound to their negative thoughts and bad decisions, this track has a cool turnaround in the lyrics though, telling us we can make it through and not to bottle it all up and isolate...powerful message from Metallica
Lars Ulrich: Drummer (Founder, the one who wrote the ad) James Hetfield: Singer, Rhythm Guitar (The guy who answered the ad, co-founder) Ron McGovney: Hetfields buddy, original bass player Dave Mustaine: Original Lead Guitarist That was how the band was up until 1982 when they got Cliff onboard and canned Mustaine, obtaining Kirk Hammett after as their lead guitarist. In 1986, when Cliff unfortunately died, they got bassist Jason Newsted, the one you mostly see in concerts with the shaved sides and long hair, usually doing some wild head banging and being a killer back up vocalist. In 2000, Jason Newsted actually left the band due to creative differences, and in 2003 they hired on Rob Trujillo who is their current bassist. You should watch Some Kind of Monster on Netflix which goes through the period of when Jason Newsted leaves the band, James Hetfield leaves abruptly for rehab for over a year and the band basically is left wondering if they'll make it out of this. I think you guys would love it.

The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside. It's ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another I believe most people have thought about it.
The "big 4" or 5 or 6 (depending who you ask) thrash metal bands all knew each other from the San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal scene. This includes Metalica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax (4) Exodus (5) and Testament (6). James was from LA but moved to the bay area in what would become "the metallica house" Kirk Hammit (guitar) originally was with Exodus and when he joined is when Dave Mustane was booted. The current bassist, Robert Trujillo was originally part of Suicidal Tendencies, he came into the band after Jason Newstead left, he replaced Cliff Burton who died in a car crash. Lars is essentially equated with the name metallica with James as a very close second. There has been times when James wanted to leave the band but those days are behind them. All 6 of those bands are still making albums.
This song kicks. I love it. It’s my jam right now at the gym and the lyrics is deep. This song gives off Master of Puppets vibe. Because they are sing as suicide. Trying to mess with you. The end you hear the lyrics “I’m no longer needed here, now you face your biggest fears.” Oh FYI, wait till you hit 40-60 and realize “yeah I’m not old”. Y’all don’t know the meaning of old. Old is how you feel lol. Amen, speak positively about yourself 🙏🙏.
When someone’s terminally ill, they’re suffering and they finally pass WHAT is one of the most common things said? “At least he/she’s finally out of pain”. Right? Mental illness is severe pain and discomfort and yet, no one says “At least they’re out of pain now”, if THEY decide to end their own suffering. Why? Why the double standard? Which would you rather experience?: A) Spend the rest of their life having fight off the demon in your mind. OR B) Spend the rest of eternity with God in heaven/perfection? B sounds the best. If heaven is all it’s touted to be then you can’t “miss” anything in perfection .. can you?
I love that you guys like Metallica! Another great song from them is "Wherever I May Roam"! Other suggestions I have are *Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi *Jeremy" by Pearl Jam "You ought Know" by Alanis Morrisette

I’m 40 this year and have been following Metallica since I was 17. Still my favourite band, I love that they’re still putting out new material and touring.
The drummer Lars Ulrich put an add out and him and James met, they are considered the founding members of METALLICA gentlemen
In the official video there is a post from Metallica saying what it stands for. It’s that everyone thinks of suicide and the fight to realize you are enough, we’re told not to talk about it, so it’s standing up and against suicide and the struggles it brings in your own mind to not listen to the negativity and the voices and to remember YOU ARE ENOUGH
Ahah i love how James said it was really akward and they barely spoke at all
@@jakecarroll5 I’m confused wdym they barely spoke at all they put out a 2-3 paragraph response with this song where what James said was apart of it. The main message James wanted people to know is you’re not alone and to always reach out to people around you and to reach out to people you think may be suicidal. If you’re talking about the little 2/3 sentence abbreviated version of the message they posted then I understand that and gotchu lmao
I seen them back in 1980 or 1981..they were still playing in bars..I seen them at the coast to coast bar in maryland.
I'm 52 years old listening to Metallica all my life Can't wait to see them when they come to Phoenix Arizona in September
Hell yeah, see you there ! 🤘🤙👍
Love your guys’ approach to Metallica and opening up to dock and metal. Very cool, dudes! 👍🤘
James said, "Forget it."
But then, Lars knew Brian Slagel, who founded L.A. metal label Metal Blade Records in 1981...
I saw a video of James explaining 72 Seasons is related to the first 18 years of life. 18 x 4 seasons. Love your guys page and content. Keep it up. Everyone should see the live at least once.
3rd time hearing it and I like it better than the first time James sounds great,I think the fellers reaction pumped me up good job dudes🤟
13:23 taj. Your brilliant chaotic mind never rests. And I love it. Watching someone or coming into a room where someone taking they life is brutal man. You never recover from that. Even if they lived...
Tell Solomons equally chaotic mind thank you for bringing that up. Because it's real. Once you in the mental health system you can't ever get out
15:38 brandon breaking it down and speaking to it. What to say when you talk to yourself. PMA I love it. Thank yall for that reminder.
Love yall!!
I'm 56 and saw them in the 80's. Amazing in your face music without all the special effects. Ride the Lightning was my first album from them on Cassette. lol
Same.💯👊🏼👊🏼 14:55
52
Been there done that brother. Right there with ya 🤘
57 and me too ride the lightening in 1985
James is talking about holding on to grudges and resentment and how he found a way to overcome this sickness before he killed himself.
It's so awesome to see how much y'all like Metallica! Keep doing you, you guys are great!
Yeah if you worked with Ozzy you don't even need a resume!
yup ozzy is a legend
Ayyyy my boys quick with the reaction I love it!!!
S.T. Suicidal for life!
Great reaction! Ross is absolutely right about the message of the song and about how dangerous suicide is.
72 seasons will be a new Metallica that will not disappoint.
Every one thinks we heard it all just wait ......
You guys should react to wherever I may roam live on the Howard stern show one of their best songs and the quality on Howard’s show is amazing
Metallica has never disappointed me…neither has your videos 🤘🏻❤️
Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" & "One" will blow y'alls minds. Great video, guys! Suicide awareness is crucial these days. GEAUX CAJUNS!
When Cliff Burton was 15/16 years old, he was in a band with Mike Bordin and Jim Martin, who went on for form Faith No More.
Great reaction, guys! You guys rock 🤘 Jordan of Metal for sure!
You nailed the meaning!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Lars Ulrich: Drummer (Founder, the one who wrote the ad)
James Hetfield: Singer, Rhythm Guitar (The guy who answered the ad, co-founder)
Ron McGovney: Hetfields buddy, original bass player
Dave Mustaine: Original Lead Guitarist
That was how the band was up until 1982 when they got Cliff onboard and canned Mustaine, obtaining Kirk Hammett after as their lead guitarist.
What a a great song, and you guys are always fun to watch
I'm almost 69 and love Metallica!!!
It's cool to see people leave there comfortable bubble to see other music don't be afraid to dip your foot in another lake
I like that Kill Bill poster y’all. My favorite line in that movie when she went to get that sword made and she asked for warm soki. Hanso went oooooo warm soki!
So if you think about they been doing it so long it’s like they have a doctorate in music.
Thank you Brandon for that spiritual message young man!
If these guys went to a Metallica show, it would be interesting to see how much they're recognized.
Gotta react to some of their older stuff, especially stuff off their first album
You guys are great thanks for repping my favorite band
Love that you guys like Metallica!
Dude on the left nailed the meaning I think. After he said it it made 100% sense to me
Kirk, the lead guitarist goes into detail on how the band started during an interview for Icons! He paints a great picture how it all started! The video is an hour and twenty minutes long, but very informative!!
Kirk is my idol, for me is the best guitarist in the world, even better than James, and he is also one of the best.
Very Good Song. Im so Happy and cant wait for the New Album
I just got to give y’all shout out. I don’t know if you’ve noticed this or not. You know you a great reaction team if you have the following and not just the numbers. You have all ages of people, all different ethnic backgrounds here. I subscribe to only a handful of reactors. Y’all of course, Stevie Knight and Half and Jai. You all have those things in common. That what makes you all GOATS in the making! You all some of the most fun, intelligent and open minded dudes on RUclips! Thanks for being awesome and making me smile and laugh wit y’all!

Love you guys interpretation and message on the song guys!
Metallica’s frontman James Hetfield and the official Metallica account tweeted this on the song:
‘Screaming Suicide’ addresses the taboo word of suicide. The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside. It's ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another I believe most people have thought about it.
Love your Metallica reactions, please do “spit out the bone” studio version. You gonna love it!!!!!

THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME HEARING THIS SONG AND IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!!! THIS ALBUM "72 SEASONS" IS GETTING MUCH BETTER!!! 🤘🏼🎶
Guy w sox hat I believe really likes Metalica.... I was in high school when they were popular
You guys need to check out Metallica’s “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth”. It’s a bass solo by the late great Cliff Burton RIP.
Yall are right...METALLICA is the G.O.A.T of metal!
Cliff Burton's dead was truly tragic and heartbreaking. You should react to clips o when the band is interviewed about that.
I started with Metallica at age 14, in 1984. A lot of their songs are about therapy in fact🤘😁
This new album is gonna be so good man. I have been listening to them since I was 11 in 1990 dude, this song kicks ass!! I can't wait for more!!
@@mearndt1 PREACH! Awesome to see another old fart OG metalhead in the wild brother! Win one for the old farts!
MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, EXODUS & the rest are still doing it 40 years later.
Lars placed an add in a metal magazine and James answered. It started from there.
Which would you rather experience?:
A) Spend the rest of their life having fight off the demon in your mind.
OR
B) Spend the rest of eternity with God in heaven/perfection?
B sounds the best. If heaven is all it’s touted to be then you can’t “miss” anything in perfection .. can you?
This song almost seems like a sequal to thier song Cyanide off of the album Death Magnetic. That song also talks about suicide.
They’re first album was in 1983
Next metallica song reaction should be harvester of sorrow (live at nimes) that live performance is legendary & yall will love it!
6:50 -- BOOM, Ross nails it on the head, nice!
I remember being young being into Metallica. Good times.
II appreciate the breakdown and reading of the lyrics
I love that you guys like Metallica! Another great song from them is "Wherever I May Roam"!
Other suggestions I have are
*Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi
*Jeremy" by Pearl Jam
"You ought Know" by Alanis Morrisette
You gotta react to more 80s live metallica
