    Thanks Rebecca! I was just getting into a good cleaning schedule until my whole family was sick off and on for all of April. We’re playing catch up now. The most helpful things for me are de-cluttering and giving the kids jobs. Even little ones as young as one can be taught to clean (throw away their own garbage, pick up toys, wipe down the table etc.). It’s good for them and it’s good for you!

    I concur with these tips. I’ve been a sahm for 7 years now. I homeschool my two boys and my husband works from home so we are a work from home, school from home family! Many messes and meals to handle on a daily basis so your tips are spot on. I love that you put flexibility and the outdoors at the end because those things really help balance out the other tips when things go haywire!

    I’m a stay at home mom of two daughters and love all your tips! I do implement this is my life. One thing that also helps me is walking everyday in the morning with our golden retriever. . It’s something I do for my myself and mental peace every morning.
    I also am fortunate that I have a cleaner come every two weeks to do the ‘deep cleaning’. . Outsourcing just this part of my life has made it easier for the general tidiness and upkeep of our home.
    I cook two to three hot meals a day and do laundry every two days.
    I do all the household tasks and the driving 😂. My husband works long hours and this system really works best for the family!

    Laundry if needed I always start in the mornings because it the one thing that I can put on autopilot lol. Also what has saved me so much time with the folding was a tip my mom gave me: fold or put a hanger in your clothes as you pull it out of the dryer. You can neatly stack you clothes with/without a hanger in your laundry basket and take it to your closet already prepared to hang or shelf. It takes me a max 15 min to fold right out of the dryer.
    I used to dump clean clothes on my bed our couch and for some reason it would turn into a 30+ min chore for me.

    • @RebeccaBarrett
      @RebeccaBarrett  Год назад +2

      Thank you for these tips! I don’t have a big enough laundry room to fold right out of the dryer but I’m gonna try taking hangers to the laundry room so I can take it already hung to the room.

    I started to struggle with keeping things as clean as I wanted after my oldest stopped napping. I had always used nap time to do most of my cleaning. I found the FlyLady cleaning system and it was a game changer. There are some other great programs there like Clean Mama or Organized Mom. The important thing for me is to be consistent with a routine and be accepting that sometimes things are not going to go as planned. It’s been a few years and now I manage a large vegetable garden and homeschool but routines keep dirt and chaos away.

    In Japan we hang our clothes outside, so I usually do laundry daily so I don't have a super load. I get so stressed during raining season and this helps.
    Love the tip about going outside, it's been a huge help in my house.

      Yes, managing laundry is probably the most overwhelming thing for me so having my schedule is a must. Leaving the house has been a game changer even if it’s like 10-15 min

  • @bunny_0288

    I've been a homemaker for 12 years, and I have to say I love the Flylady system. Every time I really commit to following it my house looks the absolute best, and I kick myself for falling off the wagon lol. It's the one thing I continuously come back to time and time again. It's all about building routines into your day, and each day you have a different daily focus. And each week you work on a different zone of your house to do some deep cleaning in that zone. She even has 31 baby steps where you slowly create these routines by adding one thing every day, so you don't feel overwhelmed. A lot of stuff you do in 15 minute chunks of time. It's really about consistency over time instead of "marathon cleaning." As she puts it, your house didn't get dirty in a day, so it won't get clean in a day. Once you establish these routines it really is life changing. And she is really sweet and encouraging, too, and helps you to change your whole attitude about cleaning. That it's about blessing your family, and not drudgery. I hope this can help someone

    One thing that I found made a big difference for me was that I do a load of laundry as soon as I have enough for a load And I start it before I start cooking dinner and then by the time I'm done cooking and it's time to eat, the wash is done and I can just put everything in the dryer real quickly. Then by the time we're done eating it's usually done in the dryer and I can bring everything upstairs, fold, and put away. It seems to be much easier than sitting around waiting for hours for the laundry to be done in the morning when we really want to get outside and play!

    I tell men and women when they complain about there spouse when they feel like there the ones who do more? I ask them , have you done what your spouse is doing? Majority of the time they say? No. Then I tell them? So how can you be certain you're actually doing more? What I've noticed is? Husbands and wives are doing completely different things and don't understand what there spouse is doing,so they don't understand. BUT? both jobs are just as important. whatever the husband or wife is doing isn't any more? Or any less important then what the other is doing

    The only thing I would add is engagd your kid in your chores, even as toddlers. Its takes longer, but u dont have to use nap time to do chores. You can actually use it for self care time.
    I now make sure i do all the cleaning and cooking while my son is awake. He can join me or play on his own. But nap time is for me.

    Being productive is good but it can also become a problem. I got burnout two years ago as a Stay at Home Mom and it took a long time to learn to live in a healthier way.
    The reality is as a Stay at Home Mom you’re doing 10 different jobs and three different shifts at the same time. I found a study that said women who are Stay at Home Moms work on average 98 hours per week. No wonder we find ourselves a bit exhausted and overwhelmed. 😂
    If you are very ambitious as a mom it’s literally impossible to “get it all done.” The real challenge is to learn to embrace the chaos that comes with having babies and toddlers. The relationships and the connections we make with our children is what matters. All the housework might not always get done, but it doesn’t matter in the end. I had to learn to value and prioritize the relationships with my family members over having a clean home, all the laundry done, healthy home cooked meals every night etc.
    These days we eat takeout a few nights a week, the laundry is never fully finished etc. but I’m more rested than previous years. I prioritize spending time playing with the kids and connecting with my husband every day. I get less housework done these days but our relationships are deeper and healthier in the family and I’m no longer burnt out.

    Amazing tips! However, I am wondering how you only run your dishwasher every other day??? Family of three and I have to run mine almost twice a day. Maybe I have a small dishwasher, lol. Or maybe you wash your pots and pans by hand. I used to till I lived in a house with not dishwasher for a year, now I can’t bring myself to manually wash anything, lol

    • @RebeccaBarrett
      @RebeccaBarrett  Год назад

      Hi Kendra! Yes I wash all my pots and pans by hand. My dishwasher is small too so I just use it for the plates, utensils, cups etc. I also rinse and reuse plates throughout the day so I’m not running through them. Idk, that’s how I’ve always been lol

    It is easier when you remove clutter. Be cut throat about it. 80% of the stuff you have you don’t need. Less stuff - less to clean. Less to organize. My house is always “clean” because there isn’t stuff everywhere. I clean as I go. I don’t walk through a room without picking something up or wiping something down. My kids have adopted this habit. I helped them do that by showing them to always pick up at least one thing. Just a few things I do. It isn’t fool
    Proof but when things do get crazy it doesn’t take a major reset to get it right again.

    • @RebeccaBarrett
      @RebeccaBarrett  Год назад

      Yes yes yes!! I love all of this. I am very cut throat with the things I have. People are often surprised when they walk into my house but honestly it makes my life so much easier and like you said reset days aren’t a huge lift because we just don’t have a lot of stuff to begin with. Even the toys, most of them were hammydowns but I keep the cycle growing when I have friends or family that need those toys.

  • @candyvanschalkwyk9450

    I have come to a conclusion that my house will be messy till my kids grow up. I have accepted it and want to spend time with my kids. So when we clean we do it together and they do their chores then I get to play games etc with them. Once they are asleep I can get more work done.
