As a stay at home mom with 4 kids I felt like I was always overwhelmed. The oldest was into sports. Every single available sport, he was there! The next was into music. Instruments, vocals, writing, etc. The younger boy was my "computer geek". My only daughter was into sports, beauty pageants, art, etc. I always felt like I never got anything done. My husband would come in from work and ask, "what did you do today?" And I rarely had an answer. To do lists made it feel even more overwhelming until I implemented my "Ta-da list". On those days when chaos reigned; ball practice, music lessons, cheer practice, I was a part time substitute teacher/aide, I kept the books for my husband's company, etc., I found that if I kept a list of all the little things I did during the day that weren't on my master to do list, (i.e. running to the store for a sick neighbor, helping the little girl next door braid her hair (she lived with her single dad who was clueless about her hair, etc) I had a better picture of how much I actually did during the day. I never realized how much I did. 5 minutes here, 15 minutes there add up.
What if he asked “ how was your day? Tell me about it?” It’s such a less intimidating question and says “I love and care about you” vs “show me your value based on your productivity”
@@Em_Powell_KC he would never have asked kindly. Never. It was always accusatory. To him I was lazy. He was rarely kind to anyone. When our youngest child (the only girl) was old enough to stay at home alone for a few hours I went back to school and worked full time. I thought the extra paycheck would make him happy. It made things worse.
If you ever feel resentment toward young children who get in the way of your getting things done, take a moment to think ahead to a time when your children might live hundreds or thousands of miles away and when you might only get to see them, at most, a few days a year. Cherish their childhood and never forget that their mental wellbeing is directly related to the amount of quality time and attention that they get from parents/guardians. Never feel guilty that you stopped in the middle of a work task to have a precious moment with your loved ones. On the other hand, you can be creative with combining work and childcare: I used to read history books and encyclopaedias to my boys to put them to sleep and they both developed exceptional vocabularies and had wonderful diction from an early age.
Regarding life with little ones: my first two babes were 15 months apart and many days were overwhelming. A very wise woman told me to ask myself every morning what absolutely HAD to be done that day. A lot of days it was just "keep the kids fed and clean and wash a load of diapers." Like you said - lower your expectations! And days when I did that bare minimum, I told myself it was a successful day.
“A body in motion, stays in motion” - What a fantastic concept! 👍 I have told myself this multiple times since you used this in previous videos. It makes a huge difference on the weekends. When I get up in the morning, I started one task, power to the next one, see something else that needs to get done and do it. As long as I don’t sit down on the couch, I can continue to build on the momentum for at least three hours. Once I sit down and turn on the tv, game over. The morning is always my most productive time period. When I decide to sit down, I can relax and do nothing for the rest of the day but I feel good as I accomplished what I wanted earlier in the day.
If I DO end up on the couch, I make sure to set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes. When it goes off, I have to get up and do something/anything. I get a lot done in little bites.
Wow. You are a bright and smart young woman. It’s a talent to be able to talk through your thoughts (and ours) the way you do. I’m a new fan! Your channel is unique and helpful. Good work!
This was SO HELPFUL. I've done time blocking before, but never with a monthly or weekly brain dump list. Also, I am one of those people who likes to cram as much as possible into each block. For some reason, hearing you say "we always think we can do a task quicker than we actually can" actually made me only block out one or two tasks for each time period. The first day doing this and it's the first time I felt productive and NOT overwhelmed. THANK YOU!!!
it helps to create a master list of chores, budget, menu ideas and receipes, a fridge/ freezer pantry inventory, a quick daily to do twice a day for 20 minutes, a master monthly grocery and household to buy, a wish list, a holiday gift planner, a birthday chart by month- i did a bullet journal for that stuff..alexa gives a reminder for meds, a screen off alarm, and a to do list with to buy. i also have an alphabetical file of paperwork. i love your stuff!!! keep it coming sweetie. u go girl. i would speak a little slower for us taking notes- but it's okay i can slow ur speed. u have a sweet little family- and ur realistic.
I have seen tons of productivity videos and tips over the years. I have been searching for something that would work with kids for so long. This is the best productivity video ever! OMG! She gives examples, the idea itself is amazing. Also it’s so simple I don’t need to learn how to use an app or computer program.
Great stuff!! You are effectively applying the Agile Project Management methodology. Master Running List = backlog. Time Blocking = iteration planning.
I don’t have children but I work from home, my boyfriend has an ever-changing schedule and travels for work, and I have two 50 pound dogs. Despite working from home, I feel less productive regarding my house chores than I did when I went into the office every day. This looks like a very promising idea. I appreciate you sharing these ideas so much! I feel like “take a shower” will be among the first things blocked in.
My house chores has fallen behind as well during this pandemic. I meal prep on the weekend, so I don’t have to work a lot in the kitchen during the week. I use the extra time do some of those house chores after work or on my breaks at work on the days I work from home. Has kept me sane.
Love this! Key words, a "running list" lol feels like things are never done. It reminds me though how blessed I am to have what I have and do what I do.
Yes Kallie ! Master list, weekly calendar, and once weekly I had a sitter for three hours. That’s when I blasted through errands. No in and out of car seats, wasting time on car trips, etc. Your method eliminates most lists and sticky notes too. Brilliant !
Wow can I just tell you how helpful this video has been! Watched it a few days ago and I started writing out a monthly to do list, especially all the big projects I think I'll do someday but never find time. I was already doing the block schedule before so I started to schedule half hour bits within that of work time to tackle those to dos (before my kids wake up,during baby's nap, when my husband gets home and one after they all go to sleep.) I've discovered 2 extra hours daily to get the "someday" stuff done! And when it's scheduled in for just half hour here and there it's a whole lot less overwhelming to tackle the small piece of a project rather than finding time to do the whole thing
Lowering my expectations & not comparing myself to others were a game changer for me. Being disabled I can’t do what abled bodied people can do no matter how hard I tried or what system I implemented. I pick 2 things a day to accomplish & give myself grace if I fail & don’t get it done. My therapist also recommended scheduling “fun” or downtime too. She said as a caregiver (my spouse is disabled as well & im their fulltime caregiver) it was vital for mental health & made me schedule an hour a day (for me that means staying up an hour later when my spouse was sleeping). It’s made a huge difference in my mood.
This was SO helpful! And I watch/read jillions of time and productivity things - because I have ADHD & the overwhelm can spiral very quickly! - but this is the MOST helpful video I’ve ever seen. I appreciate you.
@@CassieWinter ❤️ Well I'm sure they would be, if I may or may not have forgotten them 🥴 I took notes even, but things are deleted from my brain without my knowledge sometimes 😮 and I can't find which notebook I wrote my notes in. 😅 But it's kind of you to ask! I'm sure I'll find them soon!
@@ShePaints Haha. That's a normal experience, especially with ADHD. 😊 Here's a reminder to stick a post-it note to your monitor (and/or bathroom mirror) so you don't forget.
I stumbled upon this video. And its like it was meant for me, I'm pretty unorganized and my life is a mess. Well anyways I didn't notice right away that this was on June 2, which is my birthday 😅 i think the universe is trying to tell me something
Girl!!!! I didn’t even know I needed this video! I did!!!! I don’t have kids - mine are older! But I craft and have Grands!! And work full time! This was Awesome!!!! Simple steps to follow..... easy to understand! You nailed it! I forwarded it to my daughters and nieces who do have kids!!! We already do ‘list! This is just so much more! Thank you for taking the time!!!❤️
I'm 52 years old and have found the older I get, the harder it is for me to get things done. I want to thank you. You've helped so much. I just started this on 4/15/21. It's all ready changed my life. I feel like I've actually completed so many things in like 3 days. Two days I worked 9 hours.
Took me 3 days to actually watch this video, but my god so glad that I did! This was so helpful; way more than the 2 productivity courses I paid for and multiple books on the subject I've read. The way you explain it and perfected it to actually fit into your life is amazing, thank you so much for sharing! This could not have come at a better time for me, 'cause I have soooo much to do this summer.
I’m not sure how true or credible this is but I recently read that while making lists try not to have more than 7 or so things on it at a time. The theory behind it is it can feel overwhelming seeing each and every thing we have to do thus ultimately shutting down. And that has happened to me countless times. This helped me so hopefully it can help someone else too 🤓
Another good tip to be productive when you don’t feel like it is to time your tasks. So if you dread having to vacuum, just get what you can done in 10 to 15 minutes then stop when the timer goes off. This is from the Flylady system. 👍
This is helpful, not just for Moms but for anyone! I'm a business owner and have been "schedule challenged" 😉 most of my life! This looks like a simple yet powerful way to get a grip on it! Thank you! 🌹😀
Thank you so much for this! Easy to understand and you broke it down in a way that makes it simple to follow and put into action. My problem with my work calendar is I will schedule time for myself to work on an item and then just ignore it bc I’m already in the middle of the day and derailed.
So that explains motherhood and pretty much life for me growing up with ADD literally the way people understood it best was when I told them my brain is like a Internet browser and I can’t control the tabs Can’t wait to try this out for me and my family thank you
At the beginning of the video it looked almost like you had a different notebook and maybe a similar to the concept of the bullet journal. Can you make a video showing your “planner” in more complete detail? I like that you use just a regular notebook and I have thought about it before and bought on and then had NO idea where to go from there. I’m NOT creative so those type of videos help me SO much 😇🙌🏼🙏🏼
Hi, could you do a step-by-step video of how you lay out your notebooks it would help a lot with organising my time as standard planners overwhelm me; and trying to do it myself just overwhelms me because it feels like I'm walking in blind. Please & Thank you :) Plus this video was very helpful
Thank you so much for this!!! I'm fricken 50 and just now learning these techniques....it's awesome someone young has masters these tips and is helping others!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this. I am so happy to watch a mom talk about how she plans and achieves her goals (I am a new mom and still trying to find a balance). Thank you.❤️
This video has been so helpful! I’m a first time Mom of a 5 month old and also work part time away from the home. I haven’t had a chance to sit down and lay out my monthly or weekly master plans BUT even having a mind set of time blocking has helped me TREMENDOUSLY this week!!
The key points you bring up here is really to be realistic with your time blocks. I've tried time blocking on and off, but tend to overestimate how much I could actually get done 😅🙈 Thanks for sharing!
I write my calendar by hand instead of typing on an electronic device because I remember things better if I actually write them down. I'm a new subscriber and have found your videos very helpful. Your ideas are great and you are charming. Cheers from the Pacific Northwest! ~catherine
Thanks so much for this video! This month my brain is overflowing with things. Just made timeblocks for tomorrow and instantly feel more prepared and more at ease!🙏🏽
The things you said were very very very much on point. It's the way to do it you have to block things for times for things and even down time it's so true and when you do it that way you do feel more accomplished when you get some of that stuff done so point on point on I totally agree
This just showed up in my recommendations while I was up with the baby. Glad it did because I've been struggling to feel productive with the schedule all wonky.
My first baby hated all baby carriers and was a high needs baby, I constantly had to hold her and could not even go to the bathroom😱 It was very hard and now I think I should have lowered my expectations for sure.
This was great; thanks. "Lower your standards." Oh boy, absolutely. If they are little, or if they are in college and home. Since Covid-19, my time alone to get things done has disappeared. My husband is a college professor, so he and my 2 sons were/are home doing their college classes online. My entire normal work at home experience - toast. And yes, I absolutely remember the baby days. Expecting less of yourself, your household and asking for help is vital. And realize that, as Mom, you are the glue of the household. Glue doesn't get privacy and days off. **sigh** no.
This video just came up after watching your latest video and it hit me that I've seen it a long time ago and that it was actually the one who got me into timeblocking. Today I've found my blocks and I wanted to thank you. This video changed my life in a very very good way. Thank you so much for making it.
First, this video has helped me a ton. I’ve referenced it a million times. Thank you!! Second, most of my family is left handed. You have the best handwriting I’ve ever seen a leftie have 👍🏼
Really appreciate this! I’ve been totally overwhelmed and need to get some structure. This is a perfect combo of organized but not overly complicated! Thank you!
@@thatpracticalmom Please please please, I've went through your vid's twice searching for a erasable note pad you talked about. Any chance you could send me the name of the company you get this notebook that can wipe away pages to reuse? Thanks so much 🙏
Just found your channel today and just HAD to 😮 run to awwweeee on the baby and then realized she is 3 yrs old and has been walking for a while. But anywho, she's ADORABLE! Her hair reminds me of my daughter's when she was born (40 yrs ago 😢 lol) Even on THOSE days make sure you take a minute to be thankful, grateful for something. When you don't you will forget about the good things and all you remember is the negative and before you know it, the negative has snowballed into something out of control, and you will miss all of the wonderful moments of being a mom, wife, woman. ❤ Edit; now watching a different videos and u refer to your son, soooo, if your son is another baby congratulations and if this baby is a boy...oops! Sorry, still adorable 😊
Great ideas. This is my second time to watch the video through and I’ll be watching it at least two more times. Really trying to find a flow that works for me. I love the idea of just doing something for 5 minutes to get in motion. Thank you for sharing!
I love this! Have you thought about trying bullet journaling? It helps me keeping track of my all the things I need to do and I also find it relaxing and therapeutic setting it up and filling it out.
Life-changing thank you! Very excited to incorporate this!! Have needed help with this for years and didn't even know what to look up what I was looking for.
This is amazing, finally a system which is not overly complicated and doesn't take hours to figure out how to even set it up! Thank you so much. I am wondering about one thing: since you write your master to do list by month and then go from there to make your weekly schedule, what do you do for the next week when you start making your plan for the next week, and many new to do's came up? Do you simply add them to your monthly master list, every time a new to do pops up?
Love this method! I do the same thing except on my phone and I use Google keep for a "when I can" "soon" "now" category. I have focus mode scheduled on my phone as well so it doesn't get distracting
So, I don't know if you've thought of this, maybe you have, but when I was a new mom, I kept a log of when I nursed, which side I nursed and how long I nursed on that side. At the end of the day, when I felt bad for not getting anything done, I'd look at my log and say, "You fed your son. That was more important." It ended up being a blessing, because when I went to a checkup, I was able to show the nurse that I was indeed feeding my son plenty. (He was in the one percentile, because my husband is short and he got dad's short genes.) --- Now, since you love writing things down, I recommend Rocketbook. They have various types of re-usable notebooks that are erasable with water. There are videos on RUclips for beginners to get ideas about using their Rocketbook. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, so I started with a Mini that I bought from Wal-Mart, that way if I didn't like it I wouldn't have to feel like I had wasted too much money. Just a suggestion. Thank you for sharing your system. I'm sure you're a great mom.
"A body in motion stays in motion." I guess high school physics can be practical! 😁 I'm not a mom yet but I'll file this video away for when I have kids!
this is the first time that time blocking has made sense for me!! i feel like the 830-900 always felt very stressful especially if i wrote it down and then it didnt happen at exactly that time
I just had to subscribe because you dropped some priceless gems. I am a single mom with two girls, Heidi 8 and Zoey 4 and juggling being a mom, a full time working mom, with 2 side businesses is no small feat. I bought some mom planners ans weekly planners and the most important thing I took out of your video was the time blocking......in fact everything is amazing
Hey, i found you only a few days but I'm gonna call it... you're my favourite RUclipsr now! 🤗 i love your advice, your style of delivery, your personality. 👍👊
Yes. I'm running master list does work it does help cuz I carry over the things onto the new list that weren't done after I've crossed off all the items I have done
Thank you I am getting all kind of ideals. I need to get a few things. I will let you know how it works. You are such an encouragement and I really need that right now. May the Lord richly bless you
I like this approach! I wish I could find a way to implement it with my work schedule - with working a full time desk job (although remotely) my daily plan usually just has a giant block from 8-5 labeled “work” 😅
I work in a office too. I break things into projects like work on updating employee handbook in the morning and post on social media in the afternoon as an example. It’s not always perfect because of interruptions but it still gives structure to my day and able to tell others I can’t chat as I have a deadline I’m working on. I do make more progress than no plan.
This is SUPER HELPFUL annnnnd I’m retired, not a new mom haha! Seriously, this is life changing and I’m so glad I found your channel, from a fellow left hander, lovelovelove!!!
I love this video, my little girl is turning 4 this year and I have yet to get a schedule for productivity in order. I'm trying and your videos for decluttering, and being productive is so helpful. :)))
I’ve watched this video twice. What is in each notebook? Why not write it in one book? Do you not plan out the week, or just one day at a time? Also, do you not write anything on the left side of the page? Sorry for all the ADHD questions!
I have ADHD and time blocking works so well for me. If I don't get what I want done before the next block, I'm free to move it to the next day and get on with the next block. I'm able to focus on that block and nothing else until my timer goes off for the next block. Yes I have a timer because if I don't, time will get away from me. I wish I knew about time blocking years ago.
I was just reading the book Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee that discusses how women feel the need to do it all and we’re a product of the societal belief that productivity means success and the more we do the better we feel about ourselves. And then I saw this video in my subscriptions 😅 I love when things like that happen. I’d also highly recommend the book. Best book I’ve read all year 👌🏻 but don’t get me wrong, love the tips 💕
haha I think a lot of us need to try to put less on our plate. I answered this a little in the FAQs on my blog post when someone asked "how do you prevent from trying to do too much." I totally agree we have this thought we need to do MORE and MORE. I'll def check out that book!
If 14:35 if you could make another video on any updates on your planning routine? This is a great video very informative I am going to try this method is kind of hard for me to organize but I have to this year
With 3 young kids home (one is a baby and 2 are home from school and preschool) I feel like the entire day passes and I wonder what we even got done. I like the idea of writing down the master list. You can see everything at once
You produce great videos! Love the tips. A tip to young moms: be easy on yourself! I wish I had worried less about being productive and enjoyed my young children more. Having said that, DO spend some of your valuable energy on teaching kids to help clean and work together as a family. With sports and extracurricular, it can seem easier to just do it yourself, but that’ll bite you later! Again, love your tips!

Same here! Her system is simple and effective.
Omg this is amazing I’m SO GLAD
I’m not sure how true or credible this is but I recently read that while making lists try not to have more than 7 or so things on it at a time. The theory behind it is it can feel overwhelming seeing each and every thing we have to do thus ultimately shutting down. And that has happened to me countless times. This helped me so hopefully it can help someone else too 🤓
I am 54 and my kids are grown. I LOVE your videos because you are so transparent and real with actual real life dilemmas! Thank you!
I have no lie ... watched and or listened to this video about 40x ... in the last few weeks 😂😂 thanks for the motivation
Another good tip to be productive when you don’t feel like it is to time your tasks. So if you dread having to vacuum, just get what you can done in 10 to 15 minutes then stop when the timer goes off. This is from the Flylady system. 👍
So helpful!!
This is helpful, not just for Moms but for anyone! I'm a business owner and have been "schedule challenged" 😉 most of my life! This looks like a simple yet powerful way to get a grip on it! Thank you! 🌹😀
I love the term "schedule challenged"!
Thank you so much for this! Easy to understand and you broke it down in a way that makes it simple to follow and put into action. My problem with my work calendar is I will schedule time for myself to work on an item and then just ignore it bc I’m already in the middle of the day and derailed.
So that explains motherhood and pretty much life for me growing up with ADD literally the way people understood it best was when I told them my brain is like a Internet browser and I can’t control the tabs Can’t wait to try this out for me and my family thank you
Sounds like me.. I was never diagnosed but I feel that way.
At the beginning of the video it looked almost like you had a different notebook and maybe a similar to the concept of the bullet journal. Can you make a video showing your “planner” in more complete detail? I like that you use just a regular notebook and I have thought about it before and bought on and then had NO idea where to go from there. I’m NOT creative so those type of videos help me SO much 😇🙌🏼🙏🏼
Thank you, my mom brain was starting to really get out of control. thanks for sharing your method on how to actually be productive as a new mama!
Hi, could you do a step-by-step video of how you lay out your notebooks it would help a lot with organising my time as standard planners overwhelm me; and trying to do it myself just overwhelms me because it feels like I'm walking in blind. Please & Thank you :)
Plus this video was very helpful
Thank you so much for this!!! I'm fricken 50 and just now learning these techniques....it's awesome someone young has masters these tips and is helping others!! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this. I am so happy to watch a mom talk about how she plans and achieves her goals (I am a new mom and still trying to find a balance). Thank you.❤️
I would love to see specifically work from home tips as a lot of us are facing that including me.
I plan in lots of buffer time blocks when I do my time blocking, which allows for things to take longer and for life to happen. It's really helpful. 😊
I like the time block. I remember doing this when I was younger. Now my anxiety and depression has taken over me. Will try again.
Totally true about how distracting my phone is every time I get out my phone calendar.
The things you said were very very very much on point. It's the way to do it you have to block things for times for things and even down time it's so true and when you do it that way you do feel more accomplished when you get some of that stuff done so point on point on I totally agree
The french school system uses the block system for subjects and time. I love this method!
In other countries they don't do that? What do they do instead?
This just showed up in my recommendations while I was up with the baby. Glad it did because I've been struggling to feel productive with the schedule all wonky.
Did you just say, “cathartic?”
Love it!
You’re awesome.
David
I love when you said close the tabs out in your brain. This is a pullover I made lol.
Thank you!
YAY! I'm SO glad!
@@thatpracticalmom
Please please please, I've went through your vid's twice searching for a erasable note pad you talked about. Any chance you could send me the name of the company you get this notebook that can wipe away pages to reuse?
Thanks so much 🙏
@@mialeitch1789 thinking it is the rocket book. You can grab an Amazon for like 25 for the notebook size.
Heeeyyy, another lefty! 😯🙂 I love your videos!! Esp. the declutter & organize ones! But I needed this one too!
This inspires me, I barely get anything done in a day but I'm working on it already, your tips are nice ♥
Just found your channel today and just HAD to
😮 run to awwweeee on the baby and then realized she is 3 yrs old and has been walking for a while. ❤
Edit; now watching a different videos and u refer to your son, soooo, if your son is another baby congratulations and if this baby is a boy...oops! Sorry, still adorable 😊
I got a lot of good ideas from this video! Thanks for helping me feel like I can get a handle on all the to-do's, finally!
I always watch your videos all the way thru the first time. Then go thru it a second time taking notes!
I use google keep too to keep a master running list. How do you schedule the focus mode on iPhone?
This is pretty much what I do and it has worked for years. Especially lists and time blocking!! I am def a paper person as well!!
Yesss this speaks to me on so many levels!! Masters lists and time blocking keep me sane 😂👌🏻
Thank you for sharing your mommy experiences. Keep up your good work. God bless 🙌
I set a bunch of reminders on my phone . It's little things like start dinner and bath time for kids.. it helps.
I'm a student and I think this is really gonna help me!!
Just realized that I did this all wrong and I’m excited to try it again
I really appreciate your tips and hacks.
Thank you!
~N
Hey, i found you only a few days but I'm gonna call it... you're my favourite RUclipsr now! 🤗 i love your advice, your style of delivery, your personality. 👍👊
Indeed!!
This is a great idea! I’ve heard of time blocking but I made it too specific before - will definitely try this method!
Cleaning around a one year old is a nightmare! Lol sometimes you just gotta go with the flow of the day.
Really like this video. I love using my planner but I'm new to time blocking. I think I will be trying this!!! Have a wonderful day 💕
How's time blocking going?
When I was younger I used the blocking method.
This is SUPER HELPFUL annnnnd I’m retired, not a new mom haha! Seriously, this is life changing and I’m so glad I found your channel, from a fellow left hander, lovelovelove!!!
I saw that left handedness too👍!
I love this video, my little girl is turning 4 this year and I have yet to get a schedule for productivity in order. I'm trying and your videos for decluttering, and being productive is so helpful. :)))
The Q & A at the end was very helpful. Was literally wondering each of those
OH GOOD! I'm glad I included it! yay!
You need to do a video on your hair care routine. Your hair looks so clean and healthy!
Yes please!
If 14:35 if you could make another video on any updates on your planning routine? This is a great video very informative I am going to try this method is kind of hard for me to organize but I have to this year
Love everything you post!!! Your so real and relatable!!!
I'm not a mom, but this still helped me so much! Thank you!
You are my literal favorite mommy channel! So many great tips and tricks. Thank you so much
Great to know that time blocking is also helpful for parents!
Can you please provide a link to where you got the hanging baskets you keep your notebooks in. I love them!
Why not try the office supply store or go on line to one and order it. I hope you don't mind I said this for I am going to do it
