    Hi there and thank you for this upload! I've had a pair of Headlight Revolution's Star HID Projector (55W) Headlights for the past six (6) years on my 2006 H3 and they have been simply AWESOME! They were super easy to install...just a tiny bit of trimming on the mounting bracket to allow for the rear of the projector. Trimmed it in under a minute with a Dremel. Other than that, it was true Plug & Play the rest of the way... I love these lights and it would have to be something SPECTACULAR for me to even FATHOM replacing them with another headlight...especially with one that entails so much cutting here and trimming there... It's GOT TO BE true "PLUG & PLAY" without any Mickey Mouse trims and adjustments for me to consider another headlight kit... Once again, thanks for this upload and thumbs up from me as usual... I have been a subscriber of yours for years now and I thank you for all that you have accomplished... Stay safe... Rico

      The Starr HIDs are excellent headlights with amazing lighting performance! I was considering buying a set years ago, but I never did. I am sad that they have been discontinued because they were actually reasonably priced at around $500 to $600. You can still get H3 headlights that look like that from HIDProjectors .com but prices start at around $735 and can go up to $1500 with options since every headlight is hand built to order. I think this video kind of bridges the gap between the cheap Amazon 7" headlights and the really expensive HIDprojectors headlights because there is a number of options in the $150 to $800 range that people can choose from. Thanks for watching!

    The one issue I've found with LED headlights that have a sharp cut off is you are essentially driving with very little light scatter (makes sense to avoid blinding oncoming drivers). But this means you're looking at a well illuminated area of the road and then total darkness after the cutoff. Your central nervous system is designed for light to diminish with distance....otherwise you end up with tunnel vision. This becomes very fatiguing on long night drives when using the low beams. Plus it is kind of dangerous and frustrating not being able to read road signs taller than 4' high. LED's are great for being seen but their light output frequency is so short the light just doesn't travel well compared to HID or halogens, especially if the ground is wet of their is fog in the air.
    Let us know what you think after you've had them for a while....keep up the good work on the channel.

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the comment! Yes you are correct that there is less light scatter. In the real world low beam test I did in the video, you can see the new KC projector headlights don't illuminate the streets signs in the distance as bright as the Amazon headlights did. I am pretty sure there is a lot of truth to wait you are saying about fatigue, but it seems as if that is where the automotive industry as a whole is moving towards. In the past 10 years or so, more and more cars are incorporating this technology into their vehicles so it is kinda of fun to keep up with the times and modernize the H3. Also since my H3 is lifted so high over stock ride height, I think other drivers on the road will appreciate that I am not blinding them 😂. Great comment!

      That's something I have really been meaning to do, but I still got more modifications planned. As of now I got about $6500 wore of uninstalled parts sitting on my shelves. Rear air suspension, new headunit, rear steel bumper, 4 camera system, LED offroad lights, new tail lights, etc. I have been trying to make videos on the stuff I am installing at the time. I got a few videos already started, but still need to go back and film some more stuff to complete them.

    • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  2 года назад +4

      That bumper is from Road Armor. They are huge aftermarket steel bumper manufacturer. They did make this bumper specifically for the H3, but it looks as if they no longer offer it on their website. I am sure if you were to call them they would still have the design laying around and could make you one though. Back in the day it costed $2350 but that was in the 2010s and since then the price of steel has gone up. So I could imagine price could be somewhere in the $3000 to $4000 range. These bumpers are very rare to see on H3s. I think I have only seen this bumper on like 3 or 4 other H3s. Back when Road Armor developed this bumper for the H3, they showcased it on the hummer forums and everyone immediately complained it was too expensive, so for that reason not that many people bought them. Road Armor's main customer demographic is owners of brand new pickup trucks and jeeps. You see these bumpers on a lot of $100K+ show trucks and high dollar offroad builds. There is just not a lot of H3s out there in general and far less who are willing to spend that kind of money on a bumper since the most H3s have a market value of somewhere around $7K to $25K depending on condition and spec so not a lot of H3 owners bought them. That being said, it is an awesome bumper and probably the most well built and good looking aftermarket bumpers out there.

      @@4lowmode Dang, for $4k I'd rather save up a bit more and wait for a Rancho to appear... That I would have zero problems dropping a couple of grand on. Thanks for all the info though man! • @4lowmode
      @4lowmode  2 года назад +1

      @@notsojoerogan Yeah it is something to look into. I thought the Amazon headlights were okay, but after 2 years I started looking to see if there is anything better. I would highly reccomend that you watch Headlight Revolution's 7in LED shootout videos to get a better idea about current 7in led headlight offerings and see if you find anything you like! Not all the lights they present in those videos are projector headlights that 5 or 6 inches thick, some of them are just the normal 3.5in. Headlights from brand names are going to offer much better performance than the cheaper on Amazon because much more research and development has gone into their creation. So if you find a standard sized LED 7" headlight you may not need to do the modifications I presented in the video, but have found that some of the sharpest 7in headlights are projector headlights that are 5-6 inches thick. Hope you find what you are looking for!

      @4lowmode  2 года назад

      Yeah they are not going to be for everyone, but its something to consider down the line. As you saw, I started with the Amazon headlights and ran them for about 2 years. Also I did include some cheaper 7" projector headlight options out there for people that are interested. Actually, some of these high end projector headlights are LED, like the KC gravity pros. But you can also get real HIDs from HIDprojectors .com if you want.

    Just watched the comparison towards the end of the video of the old and new. Thing I noticed is the Amazon lights shine farther down the road than the KC. Lit up more of the road. The KC cutoff do not go far enough. You can easily out drive the lights IMO. At low speeds that would be ok. Not at highway speeds would that work for me. Unless I am not seeing the true light pattern from the video. Great video though. Thank you.

      The rancho lift kit has been discontinued since 2016, so the only real way to get one is to buy a whole H3 with one and swap it over it your vehicle. The tires I have are the Toyo Open Country M/T 38x13.50x18R which are basically 38in tires. From the factory, the H3 has 33in tires if equipped with the adventure package. The lift I have on my H3 is a combination of things. I have the 4in Ranch Lift Kit, the daystar 1in body lift, Schwarttzy rear extended shackles, front torsion bar lift, and the larger tires cause the H3 to sit like 2in higher.

      @@Gravediggerx2 You still will have a 200K+ mile H3. The trans could go out, the bushings will need to be replaced, you may need to replace parts of the cooling system, I would change all fluids, etc. There is a I5 H3 and V8 H3. Also there are 2 different I5 engines and 3.5L and 3.7L. If you are replacing the engine in the I5, you need to get the same engine. If you have a 2006 H3 with the 3.5L and find a 2007 H3 engine which has the 3.7L, you are gonna have a heck of a time trying to get everything to work. Getting the same engine makes it much easier. Cost to replace the I5: $5K. If you get the V8 version, it can last around 350K miles, but the V8s are about 5K-7K more than the I5 and high mileage V8s will still have the maintenance upkeep that comes with owning a higher mileage H3. You may think of buying a cheap I5 H3 and if the motor goes bad, you can just V8 swap it, but the average cost will be around $10K and it would have been cheaper just to buy the factory V8 in the first place. Me personally I have a 2008 H3 Factory V8 that I bought at 250K miles and it now has 257K miles. In that time period I have replaced: Radiator + coolant flush, water pump, thermostat, font hubs, rack and pinion, both CV axles + axle seals, all 4 O2 sensors, all A/C seals, power steering pump, did a trans rebuild, horn, bump stops, front drive shaft, windshield, hvac resistor + harness and I still got more to do. Some things I still need to do are the front axle bushings, sunroof motor, sway bar bushings, new catalytic converters, steering wheel angle position sensor, something with the EVAP system, front end alignment, and a couple other things. H3s can be reliable vehicles, but I would highly reccomend buying one with lower mileage so you aren’t immediately hit with maintenance.

      @@4lowmode in that case, I think the better option would be Iron Bull Bumpers. They still make Bumpers for H3/H3T, H2 and they give you different options of design. Also their price range is from $1,600-3,000 depending on the design you go for and the add-ons. They also coat all their bumpers with a line-x like substance.
