    I am a 30+ yrs otr truck driver. I have driven through every state in the USA. I use 80/100watt bulbs in my standard headlights. I use HELLA motorcycle headlights with 90/130watt bulbs, mounted on top of my cab. The beam pattern for motorcycles and cars are different. These work fantastic on highbeam out to about 1mile. The low 90w lowbeams are great for hills where your standard headlights are pointing up, the overhead lowbeams are pointing down. Works great for curves just over the hill. I actually made adjusting screws for the top mounts. In onder for your lights to do a good job they must be aimed correctly and stay that way. Most vehicles on the road at night have headlights that are very poorly aimed. The only way to aim your lights is at night on a empty road. Good luck to you all. Safe driving!

      If you got caught running lights on top of your cab here in the United States, The state trooper that stops you will quite possibly literally butt rape you on the hood of his car.
      You would have to be out of your mind to run something like that on the highway here.

      If you can find them (and have the budget), I'd grab the 90mm Hella quad buckets that Fiero1Fan or Synthesis made back in the day, and toss a pair of the Hi-Lo Morimoto Sealed3 units in. They're AWESOME.
      That's what I'm doing with my 85 GT but I'm still debating on whether I'm gonna do quad high or quad low beams 🤷‍♂️

    The cheap LEDs can be used as a great upgrade, if you've got an older vehicle with 4 sealed beams. Just put two of them in place of the high beam bulbs and you get a massive upgrade that you only turn on when there's no traffic in front of you. Safe, effective, and dramatically less expensive than all the bulbs this channel recommends. I did this with my trucks 4x6" bulbs, using LED headlights this channel claimed were terrible, and the improvement was massive. Now I'm looking for some 7" bulbs for my Mercury, and I'm probably going to go the same route.
    They also didn't talk about which of these bulbs will fit in old sealed beam applications, as they claimed at the beginning of the video.

    Pretty good review, but you should have specified a few more things about your testing scenario:
    1. Brand and model of the lux meter
    2. Distance between headlights if you were using 2 headlights at a time
    3. Distance from the headlight(s) to the ground
    4. Angle of the mounting plate with respect to the ground
    5. Distance from the mounting plate to the base surface (wall) that you were measuring the lux off of
    That way, someone could duplicate your testing procedure with their headlights to determine how they compare.
    My first car had a 6V electrical system. Any light that is better than that is great...

    You guys do some good testing. What distance are you measuring the lux at? Also one thing i did back a few years ago was test Hella and IPF glass H4 housings for 7" round and a few different H4 bulbs. I found the brightest combination and best pattern with IPF glass housings and the Piaa Super White halogen bulbs. I recommended it to many customers with old rigs like Scouts over the years. Had one tell me he put 35W 5000K HID bulbs in the glass housing and it was amazing. Can you do a test that uses these two combinations to see what you think? Thanks for being the testing leader on RUclips :)

    Ahhh, I just bought an LED 7” headlight from Walmart with a “Mad Hornets” brand name that is identical to the JW speaker adaptive headlight, but only $180. I am regretting this.. probably going to return it once it arrives.
    Question: for a retro styled motorcycle, would you recommend an LED bulb upgrade from the factory halogen? Or will that cause lux issues? Is the safest bet to go with Holley? Thank you for your time.

    • @HeadlightRevolution
      @HeadlightRevolution  Год назад +3

      Hey Joe! Thanks for your comment. I have no personal experience with the "Mad Hornets" brand housing that you mentioned but judging off the name and the fact that I haven't heard of it personally, I can only imagine the performance may not be as desired.
      For a retro motorcycle, the Holley housing is PERFECT for that period-correct look while boosting your light output for safer riding. They will be loads brighter than the factory sealed beam housing and you'll hardly be able to tell it's an aftermarket housing! I run one single 7" on my Cafe Racer and it is absolutely perfect.
      Check out the Holley housings here: www.headlightrevolution.com/complete_housings/universal_sealed_beam/custitem_cat_facet_brand/Morimoto?order=commercecategory:asc

    Hi. I really appreciate your video because I have a 1999 Kawasaki Drifter 1500 (factory designed to look like a 1948 Indian), and I've been thinking about getting an LED headlight. Previous owner put black LED passing lights on it, so if I get an LED headlight a black one would look good, and I have a 7 inch bucket. The adaptive looks pretty cool, and safer. Do you know the LUX or anything on the Custom Dynamics PROBEAM(R) ADAPTIVE 2 7" LED HEADLAMP? Watched a video today of a retired NY motorcycle cop that replaced his factory 2021 Harley adaptive headlight with the Custom Dynamics adaptive and the difference was surprising. Just wondering how it compares to the JW Speaker? And GOOD GRIEF... I can't believe how expensive the 7 inch adaptive LED's are!!! OUCH!!!

    • @HeadlightRevolution
      @HeadlightRevolution  Год назад +1

      Hey Don! I personally do not have experience with the Custom Dynamics PROBEAM(R) Adaptive headlight! Maybe sometime we can get one in for some testing to see how it performs. For motorcycles you definitely want something with proper width and height coverage! Something with a sharp cutoff line can be dangerous because when you corner, you lean the bike over and the headlight also dips down and rotates with the bike as you turn. If you have a sharp cutoff line, this can mean you're turning into pitch darkness!

      We have played with these lights in the studio before but we have not had them in a video yet sadly. While there is certainly worse headlights out there than the Philips you mention, they still are not worth putting into your vehicle from our findings. As for a 7" HID shootout, I'll see what we can do! Options are going to be hard-going however as the market is moving towards a primarily LED selection!

I feel the sylvania silverstars would get by just fine. I'd just like to see what the brightest and best 7" headlight is out there. I'm tempted to get some H4 GTR 2.0 bulbs and throw them in a H4 housing but I feel it would cause a lot of glare.
