Gordon's voice has a way of putting you in the song. Just like you were there. Thank God for his music. Rest in peace Gordon Lightfoot. Glad to have known you through your music.
There is just something about the three instruments layered on each other toward the end that I just LOVE! I think that is why I love Gordon's music so much is that it is just his voice and the instruments and it is for me just pure magical heartbreak time after time!! I loved listening to his music in the 70s as a teenager and every time I have heard ANYTHING by him since. He IS music to me!
Taking place about 7 years after I first saw Gord in the Toronto's Yorkville, the years since have given his voice even more depth & character. Doesn't matter if it's his own song, or Ewan McGregor, or Kris Kristofferson, he makes it a Gordon Lightfoot song. In the last 48 years Gord has proved himself to be the 'Eveready Bunny'. Facing health issues that have stymied others, yet he kicks it back in. Bravo to Canada's troubadour, in the truest sense. I've heard only one other Canadian singer/songwriter with the possibility of carrying that torch - in the future.
Agreed. Kris said that Gord had the first cover recording of the song. Gord thinks Roger Miller did it first, but either way. I'd say the 2nd best cover was done by Janis.
Oh, my God, the memories! His songs had such an influence on me. I had at least six of his albums on the old LP records. He contributed greatly to the folk music world. Kristofferson wrote that timeless song.
1 chord before chorus is great. It builds up more tension and then the chorus delivers. I like Lightfoot's version better but, Janis did have one hell of a voice :)

Wow, great sound system! I love it! Of course I am extremely fond of Gordon Lightfoot.
Wunderbar!

Such a lovely Canadian legend

Definitely the best treatment of Kristofersons song...blows all others away.

My favorite rendition. 💀🔥
One of the greatest xx
Man, this is fantastic. Gord, Red and John were marvelous.
Beautiful memories
The first concert I ever went to was Gordon Lightfoot, Corvallis, Oregon 1977 and he was great!
Still the definitive version.
First time I've heard him sing this. Pretty nice!
November 17,1938, Gordon Lightfoot born. A depressed baby.

Talent .
That woman in the crowd... so gorgeous. I would love to know where she is now, I wonder if she ever watches this when she's feeling nostalgic.
Also hope Gordo showed her a good time after the show!
It breaks my heart just looking at her.
This must have been fuckin amazing to see
This is basically a carbon copy of Kris's. Both of them are at the top of the songwriters hierarchy
I like that he stays on the 1 chord before the chorus. I never liked that Janis went to the V chord.
Janis doesn’t know whether she’s comin or goin.
He did NOT write this. Kris Kristofferson did.
Well no shit Nancy Drew.
Bobby or Bobbi.?
Assuming a cisgender heterosexual narrator...
Which narrator assumes more agency?
Well, he says I let HER slip away, so that pretty much answers your question.
