I like Gordon Lightfoot In this video. Gordon’s attempts at humor, as in this video.are hilarious! Examples: his references to such Canadian phrases as “repairs”, from hockey fighting, and a “rain dance”, from the song by the Canadian Band “The Guess Who” entitled “Don’t You Want To Rain Dance”. Mostly, I Love his fantastic semi “yodel”. This is Great stuff, Gordon Lightfoot, I think that you are indeed a funny guy!
Gord is GOD. This concert was the man and legend at his best...if "best" is even possible to determine about someone so incredibly talented as Gordon Lightfoot. Check out all the songs from this BBC show and don't miss "Farewell Nova Scotia"... you will get goosebumps. Thank you Gordon for 45 years of the music which is part of my DNA. Rob
One of my favorites, and probably one of Gordon's most underrated melodies. There will never be another like him. RIP Gordon, Red Shea and Terry Clements (Gordon's lead guitar player for many years, who predeceased Gordon), and thanks for the music and memories.
Great song, amazing guitar work by all. RIP Red Shea who was an amazing acoustic player This has to one of the best live performances by these guys ever
And yet, judging by how many days they were on tour in those days, I bet they just saw this as another gig, nothing special. What’s special is that it was captured on film for us in this quality
My favorite for 40+ years. Yep, I'm old! I don't think he has ever really gotten his due. No Rolling Stone cover of him but they are a rag run by.........I won't say it. Lightfoot's lyrics are intelligent and romantic. A soothing voice. I love this man and his music! Thanks you for posting.
I’m sure Gordon would condone (so cleverly concealed) .... antisemitism. One doesn’t need to be a hick to understand the people. You are a hick, plain and probably simple. Just another.....BOOMER! HE HE HEEEEEEEEE
@@Mattymu I hear you! I've been enjoying all his music and live recordings here on RUclips. Plus I watched the "If you could read my mind" documentary again, on CBC GEM streaming service this morning. Really recently done with a great deal of his music playing throughout. Very tactfully done. Then I watched several cover's of his songs. Some videos were of regular folk's, just sitting in their country kitchen, singing and playing with 3 guitars. I know he was 84 and he fulfilled his life dreams. Or so it seemed. It's just hard to let go even though I know it was peaceful and he was successful. Just wish he could have seen a few more years. But May Day is a pretty magical day to make you final journey. So it's appropriate for a Troubadour to make his final journey memorable on this ancient magical Celtic holiday of, Beltane! Letting the Fires take him higher. Rest in Peace and Love knowing you've blessed us with fabulous historic stories and memorable lyrics. Fair well Gordon! 💞🇨🇦🎼🎶🎸🙏🏻⚘
I always enjoyed Gordon Lightfoot but I love his music music more knowing he loves riding the rails. I'd love to ride a train through Canada one day, beautiful country up there.
glennmcfar It's always been a favourite of mine since I first heard it in 1970 in Toronto.... And 15 years later I was introduced to him by his drummer backstage at a concert in Chicago. We were friends for years and I never forgot him and his sweetness towards my parents and me on a trip to TORONTO to visit him. A true gentleman he was.....
we listen to this song many a time in our youth. our youth is gone--but not this song. my girl is gone now---going on three years. she was my high school sweet heart. I miss and love you sue----your in a better place now. remember I taught you to drive a car---stick shift. oh my years can be cruel.
I really enjoy this song. I wish I could play like these guys! I've been a fan of Gordon Lightfoot for about 17 years after hearing the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald in my Civics class. His voice just draws me in, and the guitars keep you wanting more. He along with James Taylor and others will be missed when they leave this Earth.
I'd buy musical equip. from big Hal at Gordie Brandt's Music in P.A. (when we played that area), Hal had a back room in the store for private sessions and that's where I picked one on one for about an hour with Red Shea, it was very rewarding, he was a very gifted guitar player. Boz.
You made Canada VERY proud Gord!! RIP.
Remember him for the rest of my life. Thank you and rest in peace, Gordon.
One of his most underrated tunes. It's great to see glimpses of his personality in the intro and performance.
I completely agree, very underrated....but one of his best.
@@lindaberg1695That whole first album is spectacular with many great songs like this one
@@tenniswilliam I agree, GL released classics after that album but that album is great songs after great songs, one of my favorites all time.
Went into town, for one last round…
RIP Sir.
RIP. What a song, love his music always
Gordon is a true Canadian Icon and Treasure!! I've lost count of how many times I've seen him in concert and every single one was golden!
Thank you Gordon ❤️
As a music lover hav been listening to GL Foot since 70s. Till today I see that he is the man with the finest n smoothest voice ever.
RIP ❤❤❤❤
Another romantic song from this fantastic song writer!
Did anyone ever play as sweetly and softly as Red Shea? Wonderful...
Red was the best.
Red was a big part of Gords sound.
The three of them are tight, absolute masterpiece. I have been listening to his music daily since he left us. May he rip 🙏
@@carlgustav945 He is still with us, every time I play their music, and hear the voice, of Gordon.
You're absolutely right. He's a giant. I play guitar too, but hé is the true master. The ease, the brilliant flow. Magnificent.

This Canadian heartily agrees!
Soo Goood. RIP Gord (& Red).
More talent in one ass hair than 99.7% of artists today. Fact.
Kinda hard to imagine one of Gordon Lightfoot's ass hairs, but I know what you mean
Thanks Gordo this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Still rings totally true 51 years later thanks brother

@knnan Red Shea was his name. And yes, absolutely stellar.
Wow he sounds incredible here.
Super Gord! Tnx
gordonlightfoot100-Thanks for this. Very few indeed could even stand in his shadow.
The vocalizing parts make me smile!
I miss Gordie, I wish someone can bring him back to write more many beautiful music
Absolutely love Gord.
Red Shea's real name was Laurice Pouliot (not sure about the spelling). He was from Prince Albert, Sask., my home town. My mother knew his mother.
met him in my late granmas kitchen when i was 12 years old. best live session i ever heard.

Love that song
Love this song.
An epic performance! Perfect.
This is Gordon, incredible!!
Hard to sing--He unfortunately could not do this one now--but this shows what a talent this man has--a great singer and writer
Prefer this over both recorded versions, but all are great
What a gift Gord has been to my life and psychological state. That's all I'll say on that one.
Gordon was definetly at his best during his show at this club...:)
Great concert
thanks for posting!
love it
Red the best guitarist Gord knows it.
daaaaaaaayummmmmmmm!
Vocally a really interesting moment for Gord, somewhere between the “If You Could Read My Mind” and “Sundown” timbre.
Vote for Brian Cranston as Gordon if they ever make a biopic of him
Chris Pratt: Gordon Lightfoot circa 1958-1982, Brian Cranston: Gordon Lightfoot circa 1983-1989, Bill Nighy: Gordon Lightfoot circa 1990-2018.
Great video
i love this :)
@bigkozlov with 2 guitars and a bass player!
why is the bass turned down
Great tune but where is the bass??\
+Evan Fry the bass is there but not as prominent as I would like. I agree
+Mr Ruxledge I don't even remember typing this. Not every song needs prominent bass... obviously
Damn, Bryan Cranston is a good musician
Zachary McGee That’s not Bryan Cranston!! That’s Chris Pratt!!!
