    My Nan taught me a much easier version of the basket stitch.
    >Cast on a multiple of four (I normally cast on 40 if I'm doing a square)
    >Knit (4), Purl (4) for 4 rows.
    >Purl (4), Knit (4) for 4 rows.
    >Just repeat those steps until it's a square.
    ( I normally find that 15 'boxes' of 4 rows is the right amount, so about 60 rows all together.)
    If you wanted bigger of smaller squares it's be quite easy to adapt to what ever you'd like. You'd just change the number in the above brackets and then alter the number of stitches you cast on. :)

    Exactly what I was looking for short and to the point. I only got to about row 9 before I caught on to the pattern. This made a great basketweave for me. I used 24 stitches. Not sure what everyone is up in stitches about, your instructions are clear, simple and to the point. Do the pattern on the front, then merely knit the knits and purl the purls on the backside. Ez pz. It’s just an offset in the pattern every for rows with two rows of stockinette between. Thanks for sparing me on how to cast on. I specifically came to here because it was literally the shortest howto.

    I'm making a beanie for my nephew turning one & I saw comments about how the pattern is wrong so I found some scrap yarn & hurriedly did a swatch of this pattern on it (I didn't want to mess up his beanie and then start over. Im using fingering weight and casted on 126 stitches and already did a brim so no thanks on redoing it! lol).
    The pattern is correct. You do multiples of 6 so if you casted on a multiple of 6 number then it all works out.
    Row 1 is K1P4K1. So you K1P4K1 , K1P4K1 ect till the end. Think that each is a little grouping of 6 stitches.
    So like with row 9 its K2P2K2 (little grouping of 6). You'd basically be doing K2P2K4P2K4P2...ect until the end of your row which would end K2. (K2P2K2 , K2P2K2 , K2P2K2 ect so the two K2s would basically combine to k4- if that makes sense!).
    So just make sure you read & do the pattern correctly & everything will turn out right (: .
    Hope this helps! (:
    Thank you Studio Knit for posting such an easy pattern!

    Thank you so much for these videos!! I started crocheting about a month ago, and made quite a few things. Learned mostly off RUclips. I love love love the knit look better than crocheting, so my wonderful mom bought me tons of knit stuff to get started. I started last night, now I know how to do the knit stitch! I am just so excited about knitting, but I do have to say it is scary, I don't know how to fix mistakes. I watched a couple of videos of other people but it is confusing. I am determined to stay with it, I am sure as I progress with knitting, I will be able to fix those mistakes! You have some great videos and neat stitches to do!! Hello! first out of all the videos I have watched, yours are my favorite! tonight is the first time I saw one of yours for the first time!!!
    I have yet to basketweave... so my question, I'm making a baby blanket for my first grandbaby, and I have started the blanket and from what the pattern said for the beginning I did. I had to CO 112 sts, and follow the first 24 rows how it was written, and that was a bit confusing, but I did what it said and will just continue to the next part! and it just states the last part before ending with 8 rows in garter st. FOR a Basketweave Pat. I'm not sure with the 112 sts do I just do some dividing to make the bask weave, like you were showing in just a small row? I'm just not getting it! please can you help me understand how that's done? I'm a new knitter for 18 months now, and I love it, i became very sick 3 years ago and this is what helps me get through my rough times! so the thing were i seem to be getting stuck are when you have to have a certain amount of stitches for different kinds of pretty patterns, on how to figure it out. and that I think would be a great video for someone like me, and many others I hope! Thanks so much:-) hope to hear

    Hi I have kind of a weird question so here in the video you says knit 6 and then Pearl six on straight needles but the pattern on your website says to knit for row 1 and 2 to on circular needles
    I just wanted to ask if that's accurate since I'm using the pattern on circular needles for a blanket

    Hi, I'm a beginner knitter (learnt 2 weeks ago) and love your videos! I want to do this basket stitch as one of the squares in a patchwork blanket, however I need it to be 50 rows and 4 lots of 12 would be 48. I'm thinking I need to do an extra row at the start and end, but not sure whether a row of knit, a row of purl or a row of K1 P1 would be best? I just need to bulk it out to 50 rows by adding these 2 extra but I don't want to affect how the basket stitch looks. Any advice?

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  10 лет назад

      Great question! I would keep it easy on yourself an for any extra rows or stitches, just do the KNIT stitch. Thanks for watching and good luck!!!

      Studio Knit So a row of knit, then 4 times your 12 row pattern and then a row of knit to finish? Makes 1 + 48 + 1 = 50? And it won't matter that my first knit row is then followed by the row 1 of your pattern which is also a knit row? Thanks for much for your reply and for posting all your videos! They're so helpful :)

      Laura Pickering Yes, that sounds perfect! Your extra knitting will just be in the very beginning and end. It'll look great! Happy knitting!

    What do you mean by row 1: k6 ? Does this mean we do the whole row on knit stitch ?
    After row 6 , I did as you said : 1 row k , 1 row p then why doing p2 k2 p2 and then k2 p2 k2 ? And not p2 k4 p2 etc?
    I did exactly as you said , so the beginning looks nice but from 7 to 12 it looks like nothing.
    I casted 24 stitches at the beginning

    Do i cast on with 36 or 42 stitches ? I'm brand new and just learnt knit & purl, want to give this a go as a personal challenge
    Also row 3 is it
    K1, p4, k1, p4 or k1, p4, k1, k1, p4 ? 😵‍💫
    Edit* i started with 42 but did
    Knit
    Purl
    K1, P4, K1, K1, P4
    As it says end on a K1 but doing it
    K1, P4, K1, P4 I ended on a purl...
    I'm working it out still 😂

    Wow, this is definitely ahead of where I am now, but it's beautiful, and it seems to make sense in my head, maybe I'll try it soon. So if, for example you have the K1, P4, K1 on row three, it's in effect like K1, P4, K2, P4, K2, P4,... K1, right? since the pattern of six begins again and you'd have two k's next to each other because of it, but only one k at the end... Am I getting that right?

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  9 лет назад +1

      Yes, exactly, Stillwhistler - You are a pattern reading whiz! As long as you can Knit and Purl, you totally will be able to complete the basket weave. It's really cool to see it knit up!

      @studioknit  9 лет назад

      Hi, Nyla Schwartz - Simply knit all 12 rows exactly as the pattern directs. So, after you knit rows 1 through 12, you will do exactly the same when you begin again. Hope this helps!

    I've been knitting since I was about 8 (21 now) but I've never learned more than knitting for odd rows abd purling for even rows. This looks so cool, but I'm also extremely confused :(. So the pattern repeats every 12 rows? Also, I hold my yarn differently. I knit with the yarn coming from the skein wrapped around my left index finger for tension, instead of wrapping the yarn around the needles every stitch. Will that effect how my stitches come out, with the switching from purling to knitting so often?

    • @studioknit
      @studioknit  9 лет назад

      Great question, imwithMindfreak. I knit in the English style and it sounds that you knit Continental style. No, it will not affect how the pattern turns out. Knits and purls are the same for us both! And, yes, you simply repeat the 12 rows. It's really cool to see the pattern develop! I encourage you to try a small swatch if you're curious... you'll love it! Thanks for watching and the great questions!

      Hi, +kelly wylie - Yes, when you see
      Row 4: * P1, K4, P1 *
      You repeat the stitches within the *
      So, after P1, K4, P1, you then repeat with P1, K4, P1.
      Hope this helps!!
